    Ship in a bottle, eh? Easy. You make the model ship, ensuring it's small enough to fit in the bottle. You make it so that the masts are hinged, and can lie flat on the ship's deck, and their rigging is connected. You tie a thread to the mast that is going to be nearest to the bottle opening. You slide your model into the bottle, making sure that you have put glue down to fix it in place. When the glue has dried, and the model won't move, you gently pull on the thread, which will pull the masts upright, and drop into holes cut for them in the deck. Keeping the thread taut, you insert the cork, which holds the thread in place, and the masts and rigging stay in place. I made one, years ago, and it made me swear a lot.

      I knew that the boat was made outside the bottle but I was never quite sure what parts were pulled up after inserting into bottle. You did a great job describing it in simple terms. Thank-you for sharing. Have a lovely day!!

    Here in Germany, potatoes are considered different dishes depending on whether you peel them before or after cooking.
    "Salzkartoffeln" (salt potatoes) are potatoes that have been peeled before cooking.
    "Pellkartoffeln" (Peeling potatoes) are peeled after cooking and are often eaten with Heringsstipp (a type of salad/condiment made with herring) or Kräuterquark (comparable to sour cream with herbs)

  • @CapriUni
    @CapriUni 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That boiling trick works with tomatoes, and bell peppers (and almonds, if you want to peel the skins off almonds) too.
    But you *don't* boil them until they are fully cooked. You drop them in rapidly boiling water for *one minute* Then drop them in ice water to shock them cold.
    The rapid heating causes the skin to expand, and then, when they're cooled down immediately after, the potato inside shrinks back down again (and it's cool enough to handle), so the skin comes off easily. Also, because the potatoes are still mostly raw, they won't turn to mush as you handle them.
    (This process is called "Blanching" in cookbooks. When I was growing up, we had a vegetable garden, and froze almost all our veggies for winter, and blanched them all -- even the veggies that weren't peeled -- before freezing)
    Oh, and Happy Birthday! May you have your favorite cake, and may you blow out all your candles with the first puff.

    I used to do the toasted cheese sandwich under the grill - toast one side of the bread lightly, butter it lightly then lob the cheese on and bung both slices back under the grill with the cheese in the middle

    Mrs. Barry is fun, I like her ideas. You should make a ship in a bottle exactly as she described.
