I'm a high school photography teacher...I understand 3:30AM. Suggestion for Part 2---OBS setup for 1) host plus 3-person Interview through multi-platform (ZOOM, Skype, and or WebEx together) video conferencing 2) a 2-webcam overhead product demo. Thank you for your work and efforts.

So I’ve been playing around with this live every morning at 10 am. Multi platform is fine as long as all participants don’t expect to see video of you or each other.

I couldn't find anything on your channel about it, but I would like to hear your opinions and possibly advice on streaming without a facecam? I am an art (and somewhat game as well) focused person without any cam equipment and am quite camera shy to be honest, so I always get discouraged when everyone keep saying "facecam is a must/super important". It keeps me from actually continuing streaming because of fear of not being visually interesting enough. I have been considering buying a camera just to show my hands while drawing, unfortunately that doesn't really help me while playing games.

Maybe draw like something to stand in as "you" and draw a whole environment with it and animate it and put it in the corner like a webcam and If you can have it periodically move and stuff. Saw someone do something like that before seemed pretty cool

You don't need a camera, it just helps. If you have the skills and you are entertaining enough people wont even notice. Just keep trying.

If you don't want your face to be on cam put a camera on your hand that you're drawing with that way people can still see what you're doing. Just make sure you're nails are trimmed and good looking. You'll be judged.

Suggestion for that part 2, as requested: for after this whole situation is over - what about streaming events with a live audience online at the same time? How should you handle the audio from the mixer going to the room speakers? Should you have a secondary mixer with different settings for the stream / using a digital mixer's aux outputs with everything on Pre-fade, controlled by an iPad app? Do you need a second audio technician?

    • @Live.drones
      @Live.drones 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Kieran a mixing board that has bus outs to relevel your stream feed versus your room feed is the minimum.

Hey man. I am a professional singer. Like many of my friends and colleagues, all of my performing gigs have vanished and I have abruptly jumped into streaming live performances. About 4 weeks ago, I didn't even know what OBS was. Because of you, I am now capable of streaming using multiple NDI sources, plugins, and techniques. Thank you so very much for this and all of your other information you have distilled in your tutorials. I am now about 5% through your your 2018 OBS Masterclass. :)

I’m so glad to see you addressing non gamers. I have really good audio recording equipment and recently got a BMPCC6k and now I realize that my Windows 10 computer doesn’t support video editing and in particular Davinci Resolve 16. Nor does my AUD Apollo Twin MkII Quad play nicely with OBS on a Windows 10 system. Time to throw in the Windows/PC towel and go Apple? Either way, I need to upgrade my computer.

I am a corporate trainer that moved from the classroom to Zoom. I ended up here in this rabbit hole looking for ideas to easily upgrade my presentations and figured I could learn from streamers on how to live in front of the camera. I've watched a ton of your stuff recently and just now, by accident, stumbled on this. I think your title makes this video a hard one to find especially since it doesn't fit in any of your other categories. Anyways, I appreciate this video and ask for more please. I'm doing slide decks on a company laptop with a provided headset/mic. Since the company isn't asking nor paying for upgrades to my presentations, people like me would value topics like how to use gadgets/tech you may already own, getting biggest bang for buck, and pairing items for fastest learning curve. I'm also curious about seemingly simple things like background music, game show like soundbits, how I can use a lightboard or similar to recreate the giant whiteboard I don't have any more, and any other effects to make 3 hours or more on zoom fun. Lastly, one of the benefits of going virtual is I can do my job from nearly anywhere. I don't want to lose that. I bought the cant link to connect my DSLR and looking for a mount, lighting, etc. I have downloaded OBS, maybe I will get brave enough to open it soon.

Shal Music FX cater to short attention spans and encourage comments, which produce the most results when driving engagement.

    • @esaedvik
      @esaedvik 4 ปีที่แล้ว

First, make a list of what kinda community/viewers you want in the first place. Don't attempt to cater to everyone, that'll just burn you out. Find what works for you (emphasizes your abilities/pro's - and list those too) and pivot on that.
There is such a thing as bad engagement, like just pure abuse from viewers etc. I mean, some do "like" it on-camera, but I would imagine most just burn out from that too if it's constant. I see quite a few "dead-eyed streamers" around who just take it. Personally, I can't stand streamers that promote abuse in general. The atmosphere is just terrible. I get that that kinda memery drives engagement on socials, but do you really want that in the end? Just big numbers and no soul?

the suggestion of the shotgun or pencil condenser microphone type has been amazing.
I have been going crazy with the options (or lack thereof) in the beginner range of budget for the WFH setup.
Samson Q2U was one of my pick based on your suggestion of dynamic mic for use in non-perfect situations which also has an upgrade path from USB to XLR with the audio interface. but not available in my nation these days at the price comparable to outside

How do we engage the audience when we're making/fixing/troubleshooting stuff? What can I do to encourage myself (or, what strategies can I employ) to stay engaged with the audience? When it comes to building electronics or programming code, I wonder how I can make that interesting enough to keep an audience engaged. Do I just talk out loud like a sarcastic mad scientist? Sometimes I have to kind of beat my head against a wall to figure stuff out: How do I make that interesting for viewers?

Bit late to this one but already been watching a lot of your stuff - I do amateur TH-cam and streaming but also work as an AV tech in higher education - definitely more content regarding lecture capture and educational content would be amazing - I find that people are more concentrating on simply implementing tech and delivering a service, whereas I'm really pushing management to understand how important the quality of content is. It seems when I show them content creators or streamers as an example they think of it as a hobby and not an industry that is leaps and bounds ahead in terms of production quality.
I'd also like to see some content on methods for automated recording and engaging non-technical end-users, as part of the challenge in education is basically getting those lecturers who "aren't technical" to be putting out something that is still professional.

    1. Tips and examples to make the stream \ vid engageable (I have only 1 cam)
    2. What do you suggest for green screen - background or transparent. Also while sharing powerpoint - with face or not - with transparent or background what looks better?
    3. What do you say about presentation - more or less, writing on screen more or less.
    4. Tips for interviews - best way? (NDI didn't work for me btw) - how to do it in a way that people won't run away?
    5. How do you set teleprompter right and cheapy way?
    Thanks!!

First off thanks for the Video, it really helps with what I'm wanting to do. I'm a total rookie at this and trying to get where I can learn the equipment, the software, everything that goes into doing this stuff and I'm doing it all alone, which is no big thing, right? It's pretty daunting for a guy whom is going into his senior citizen years and is not ultra computer savvy. So trying to learn the streaming the camera work, the video editing for that end, then the sound editing, on top of being up on my subject matter. You are taking at least one area and making me not so uptight about learning it. Thank you again.

A super-helpful video would be recommended settings for OBS for under-powered hardware, since many of the staff I will be training to use OBS do not have hardware that will likely be capable of streaming above 720p. Hopefully that will be adequate for streaming video-chat style conversations with on-screen graphics and other camera shots of what is being discussed in a talk-show format, but while I will be pointing people to your previous walk-throughs of OBS, an update for “ideal OBS settings for laptops” would be excellent.

Well, the audio from a shotgun mic on 10-25 is really boxy and even sounds a little like clipping. For example, for my mathematical seminars, music streams and interviews I use audio-technica at2035 with Focusrite Scarlett 2i2, hope it is much better than a shotgun. There are a several problems with on camera mics that are in shadow:
    1. Monitoring. Many cameras don't have a headphone output (for example, my Sony a6400 that is popular for video and streaming). You need either to forget about monitoring or to use some tricks like extracting the audio from hdmi, that is not so easy since you also want an hdmi capture to your PC.
Even if camera has a headphone output (like the more expensive Sony a6600) the cable connecting a camera and your headphones makes it possible to twist your head and suddenly make the camera fall (this can be fixed by having a longer cable).
    2. Preamps. The preamps (that make the signal of your mic much louder) on mirrorless cameras like Sony a6400 are not so great as dedicated ones in the audio interfaces, the solution for Sony a6400 is the Sony xlr-adapter that is really expensive.
    3. Control. The camera is not as close to you as and audio interface could be. The camera is also levitating in the air while the audio interface is on the table. The dedicated audio interface is made to be positioned on the table with all the control looking at you. While you touch you audio interface you don't touch your mic or camera that can affect your picture of sound (it is also a big advantage over the usb-mics). in order to fix in-camera sound you need to touch the camera that will affect both audio and video and the process is harder even with a flip-up screen.
So I think that because the audio is more important than the video for many people and an audio interface and a mic are usually less expensive than a camera, it is a good idea to buy a this audio gear. It is really good also that these audio systems are made for this very studio usage positioned on the table while cameras are meant to be held in the arms (there are small cameras from Blackmagic, for example that are meant to be used like this but they have a smaller than aps-sensor as far as I know and are expensive), also the dedicated video control devices are expensive. On the audio side you have a separation of a capturing device (mic) and the control device (audio interface) for much less money. It is also a thing that is unique for the audio: with and audio interface you can have two analogue inputs (say two mics) into one interface. You can also change the mics.
    My audio pack is
    1. Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 3-rd generation. It is an audio interface with 2 xlr-inputs.
    2. Shure sm58. It is a dynamic mic (hand held design) for a good background noise regection.
    3. Audio Technica at2035. It is a condenser mic (studio design) for a good sound from the whole room.
Having this 3 items you will be able to see the difference between dynamic and condenser mics (I use dynamic one with a noisy laptop, or when I need just my voice captured, the condenser one with the fanless laptop only for singing wihth a guitar). They were my first two mics, then I bought extra two
    4. Shure sm57. Dynamic vocal/instrument mic. With this mic a can do interviews in a noisy environment using also my sm58. I bought sm57, not the second sm58 in order to mic my guitar but nether did it cause I do it all through my at2035 at home.
    5. Akg p420. Condenser mic. It has extra polar patterns compared to at2035 (omni-directional and 8-pattern) for sitting in from of the guest interviews. But I never used it this way. So it was really the moment when I realized that I need to stop buying microphones.
I recommend the first 3 items for everyone that wants to have a good sound and also to experiment with it. The extra dynamic mic is really helpful for the 2 person talks in the noisy environment, and the need of the extra condenser is debatable cause for the interviews in a well-treated room you can still use two dynamics. So, for me it works like this: if I want to just mic spoken words I can use a dynamic mic for each person, if I want more than that I mic the whole room with one condenser.
I also want to mention that you can use mics with different audio-systems. In the video world there are different mount (Sony E-mount, Canon EF-mount, Panasonic Micro 4/3 mount), in the audio world basically the universal one is the xlr (though you may need to have xlr to the quarter inch jack adapter sometimes, it is not a big problem since there are no distance considerations like in the video world (distance from the interior lens to the matrix, the reason why you can use dsr optics on mirrorless cameras with the adapter, but not vice versa)).

One element that would be something that I find very important as to quality (beyond actual audible audio - for example my laptop creates a very large amount of background noise on it's built-in microphone as well as a telephone headset - I have a portable lavalier usb microphone not suffering those issues) is A/V sync. If you have a more complex setup (or use something like droidcam to get acceptable video quality) you are going to need to think about a/v sync (even when unbuffered droidcam will be at least a frame delayed - at 30fps)

I'm going to start up a TH-cam channel soon, and a podcast later (I'm building a team for the podcast), so I been preparing for that. I'm not a fan of webcams, so I'm plan on using my Canon M50 to record. My questions to you is; do I need a game capture card for a TH-cam channel that consist of outdoor activities, talking, and explanations? I plan on going live, but I don't know the best way to do that. Do I need some type of equipment or program that can control my lighting, cameras, cropping, and any other image that my viewers and/or I could see? What's the best equipment to used that will allow me to shoot from multiple cameras simultaneously? Also, are there any programs that would make life easier as an TH-camr? I plan on using someome of my equipment for podcasting in the future, so I don't want to buy something just because it's cheap when I'll have to buy something that cost a bit more in the future (spend money now so that I don't spend more later). I'm familiar to the way gamers do things because most channels caters to them, but I'm not sure if that's the best route for someone in my position. It would be nice if you or someone put together a few videos with a list of dos and don'ts to save me time and money while making me less ignorant to gear and programs. Thanks.

Now that you have an iPad Pro I would love to see a guide of ways to get it hooked up to a computer with OBS. I know LilyPichu has that as her set up for her art streams, and I believe it's wireless, but it unclear how she does it. I have a lot of artist friends who mainly draw on iPad and would love to stream but don't know how to get started.
I've helped a couple of them step by step but it's difficult since I don't have an iPad so I can't follow along and show examples of what buttons to hit. Having a video guide I could point to would save me some time and be a valuable resource.

Can you talk about OBS scenes that would make sense for different educators? In teaching math I'm unsure what scenes to setup, when to transition, and what benefit it would provide students to transition scenes with one camera. Also, while many of the free ones are great for gaming streams, they don't look all that 'professional' for educators. Vaporware slides don't say "I'm a math muckity-muck and you should listen to me."

I'm interested in lighting and camera for piano streaming/recording in the future. Run the audio directly through the USB plug to the PC or get a direct box or small audio mixer and run the audio through that (that would make more sense as I would probably have microphone as well). Eventually someday have it set up with my pc so I can stream finale and other composing materials. Appreciate your knowledge and professionalism.

I would be interested into knowing how to connect by Zoom or other platform using my DSLR and the same microphone you are using.
I'm a hackintosh and Mac user and up to now I reach this setup:
Video: Nikon D5500 by hdmi to Lukilink (similar to elgato camlink I supported on Kickstarter) by usb3.0 to my computer. It's recognised as a webcam without any drivers needed.
Sound: Shure SM7b to Universal Audio Apollo Quad connected by thunderbolt to the computer.
Everything is fine straight into Zoom except for the sync. So I thought about using OBS to delay the sound, but virtual cam plugin is not available for Mac.
    Any suggest to solve this?

I need lighting advice for My stream content. What I stream is electronic repair. Like car amps, Home stereo amps, Pro audio equipment. ECT.
Currently I am using LED "Stoplights" they look like florescent 3 ft bulbs but made from led's.
I am looking to upgrade this set up. but the challenge is. I am working on varus equipment ranging from flat [circuit board soldering] all the way up to 6+inches deep. [Pro audio equipment with transformers layered circuit boards ect. And i need a lighting solution that will help prevent deep shadows, and at the same time can show clear non GLARING detail on shiny new solder/circut boards.
I guess you can think of me building PC's and trying to get the lighting deep into the PC case.
ANY ideas on what to use for this very divers challenge?
I am using 3 C920's and some with modded lens, if this makes a difference. Trying to keep 1080, 30 fps. And still light around all the over head cameras.

Hey EposVox - great video! I, like the rest of the world, am just getting into live streaming and your channel has been a great resource! Question: any recommendations on protecting your privacy from things like Browser auto fills when sharing your desktop? In cognito seems to only go so far and blurring after the fact is a bit tedious. Thanks for all the great content!

    • @EposVox

@@cli23 If you use Chrome (and I think it also works with Firefox), you can create different "profiles" which have completely different extensions, bookmarks, and I'm pretty confident autofill is different as well.
You can export all your important website bookmarks you are using and import it into your streaming only profile in chrome.
If you are doing things outside of chrome, you can always create a separate user account on your computer for your streaming.
Also if you use OBS, you can use the "studio" mode which let's you preview your next scene switch before you make it go live to your viewers, so you can login before you send the scene to the Livestream.
      Hope this helps!

Do you think a capture card + obs + virtual cam plugin is an option? To know that my cam doesnt have a microphone input and I would be using my computer mic input :-S. I have heard that with obs + virtual cam the delay is too big. Could you share some light here, please?

I am try to get a plan together for my church to stream or at least recording video for posting later. I learned about OBS and than found your OBS masterclass. I am computer geeky and technically inclined. (I do have an degree in Networking.) Your videos make be Geek out. I started a TH-cam Chanel (Not connect to this account) for the fun of it and to practice. That way the Church stuff looks its best when we get going. I need information on the types of Video capturing devices. I have seen Cards, Dongles, Wireless adapters, and terms I am not used to. (I really don't like being on this side of the learning curve.) Please help on best uses for each. The Pastor is impressed with what I have learn so far and wants me to advise. (A lot due to your videos, so Thank You). Someone is willing help but I don't know the scope. I hope to have a plan that starts with a nice video camera, New computer (Don't ask what we are using), input from sound board and secondary out put for in house displays. I believe I have figured out most of this except the best way to capture the video from the cameras. I am trying to stay under 2,000 for computer, camera(s), capture cards, adapters, and cables. Any help would be appreciated. Also I need to note there is currently no network connection. The WiFi doesn't reach and Ethernet was not a priority when the the facility was built. I would like to save that for later but worried we may need to include that.
tl:dr Best uses for different types of capture devices. (Would like to plan for three cameras to one computer/station)

I've been trying to put together tips and tricks for university faculty going forward (what I have so far is at www.matthewedavis.net/node/123, but it is still very much a work in progress). I think optimization for Zoom (since that seems to be what campuses have defaulted to) and ways to handle hearing the audience without the over-the-ear cans would be great as well.

Peace! Just subscribed. I am a music artist/performer and I've been streaming my early morning practice sessions. I would really love to see a video on streaming live performances, where you have HD video, Sound directly from your interface, and minimal titling and overlays. Every time that I attempt to sing/rhyme along with my production, I notice that the vocals are delayed in comparison to the music. While performing, everything sounds great, but like I said the playback makes me appear to be rhythemless...lol
Any assistance would be dope! All of the musicians and performers are counting on you :-)
