kd lang is one of the most criminally underrated singers ever. I was in 11th grade when this song was released, and it’s still hauntingly beautiful. I remember kd performed this song solo shortly after Roy Orbison died. Still gives me chills how she owned that song.

I have worked with KD Lang several times on CBC-TV specials and award shows. She has always blown my mind. The solo you are probably referring to is one I was apart of in March 1989 on the Juno Awards. I was over the moon in November 1988 when I heard Roy Orbison and KD Lang were going to do their duo "Crying" live on the the Juno Awards. It would have been a highlight for me. When I got the sad news on December 6, 1988 it made me sick and tore at my heart. Can you imagine I would have been standing literally a few feet from them singing this piece at rehearsal. I am so glad to hear that there is someone who also agrees with me. I was standing beside KD Lang just to one side of her when she rehearsed the solo you spoke of.
I played Roy on my 8 track throughout my teen years. Today, nearing 73, his voice still gives me chills and makes my heart hurt over him being gone. Thank you Roy for all the treasure you left us. RIP.
Roy Orbison had one of the top 3 incredible male voices ever - his range was phenomenal, then comes KD with her powerful voice, so strong but they worked together so beautifully. What a great duo.

Black and White Night was the best performance of Orbison's career, during which I'm sure you know, KD Lang was one of the back up singers. Roy's solo rendition of "Crying" that night was flawless. Lang pours even more emotion into that song than he did in her subsequent solo performances of it, and her voice is unbelievably clear and strong. Two spectacular talents.
I'm amazed his voice stood up as long as it did. Not many singers can still hit those high notes of their 20s so flawlessly in their 50s! This was released the year of his death.
I Agree with you Robin. A friend and myself went to a K.D. Lang Concert in Melbourne a few Years Ago. She was Absolutely Amazing and Everyone Enjoyed it. 😊🤙🙏

I have always liked this song sang and written by Roy Orbison his voice is definetely his own. Nobody could mistake him with any other singer. However that said, I think that this duo, Orbison and Lang made it more emotional that it was (if that is possible at all). A great, great version of that already wonderful song.
