This beast looks way better than the previous version. Absolutely fantastic jobs by Toyota. I'm very excited to see and try one in person. Hilux will always be the King of Pick Up Truck.

Fun fact. The touchscreen unit we got here are not actually came from Toyota. Toyota fitted the aftermarket version for us ;-;

is the 1GD-FTV going to hold up the extra torque and hp?. If i remember correctly that engine only gave max torque of 450NM. Something will eventually break prematurely.
I haven't got a chance to see it for myself. But i heard it is bouncy. From my experienced, i believed by replacing the right absorber (includes the calculation for sprung and unsprung weight, and so on. . .), get the right length of absorber, should be able to lessen the bouncy rate. Perhaps another upgrade for suspension, go for a foamcell (combination of foam and oil) type of absorber, which is far better than the oil-based and nitrogas.

The stereo head unit is different from Thailand Rocco & Australia Rogue / SR5. Why does malaysia always get the odd item integrated that is aftermarket and looks substandard.

Reverse camera seperated from the rear bucket door handle set, wat we called that? Thai version hilux reverse cam were built-in on the handle set.
And the rear sport bar also not bring in like Thai one?

Everytime Hilux comes with new generation, my only is for the grab handle to be retractable. I have lost count of how many times I knocked into the grab handle...

The only thing I like about this 2nd facelift is rear lamp and the extra horse power / torque. Front bumper with integrated bull bar alike design is meh to me.. the rest still looks like the previous one.
Correct me if wrong but looking at the top spec Hilux Rouge 2.8L.. it seems like we are only need to upgrade to heavy-duty turbo, new fuel pump and of course some ECU tuning for previous Revo / Black / L-Edition 2.8L models in order to achieve the 204ps / 500Nm power. If umw capable of providing such upgrades.. I can see lots of "ka ching" in their pocket and lots of very happy existing hilux owners as well.
And for the new 10k km service interval.. I can't see any problem why umw toyota incapable to bring this into previous models which using the exact same engines. Come on umw!!!

Thanks Hafiz for the review. I personally think , although the hilux minimal interior is boring, it's still made of materials that's suitable for the rugged working conditions and scenarios. After about 4 or 5 years, my ranger's interior door handles, vanity mirror, rubber trims around bottom beside door, are broken or tearing apart. Even the ranger's hand rest and gear shift knob feels quite flimsy..well, I might trade in for a toyota in future I guess. Still, I do find the squarish angular design of the hilux, above the wheel a little weird.
IVIaster Grade I thought the square painted trim is a nice touch.
@@ch13t its not too bad. But I've seen the bare Hilux without those wheel arch fender, the angular shape is very weird looking. Once you've seen it, you can't unsee it. Personally just prefer the round arch (like raptor) instead of angular (hilux). Check out the tesla truck for an exaggeration of the angular wheel arch.

For god sake this is a pickup truck at the end of the day not a Range Rover etc. The personnwho bought this will only care where and how he would like to enter a rough dirt road somewhere deep inside a village somewhere or how much stuff he can put at the back not about where the rear camera is off centre or whether the infotaiment unit is after though etc

Very disappointed that UMW Toyota is still putting out old accessories from their unsold parts bin. The head unit, the sports bar and reverse camera from 2 models ago are nothing like what Thailand/Taiwan/Philippines are getting. The non-retracting grab handles above the windows are definitely safety hazards.

It represents manual version, especially when off-road and stuck it can help using lower gear. But still, using auto throughout is still okay
nothing special to other normal suv/ sedan or 4×2 can-do talking presentation, unless shows how hilux performance of crossing the river, climbing sharp slope, playing offroad muds.

Suddenly the Hilux is the worst specced pick up truck in the Malaysian market after the launch of the new Nissan Navarra, Isuzu D-Max and Mitsubishi Triton's this week.
The UK one is better even though they are the same car. Why is it that the cars we get here has toned down specs as compared to Europe/USA???

For someone like me that uses this gen Hilux for off-road on daily basis and had the chance the drive ranger on the same off-road area, I would prefer ranger as it is more comfortable doing through rough undulations compared to hilux that is trying hard to have fake sporty handling with its firm but crashy suspension so end up not very comfortable. Also worth to mention here that this hilux 4L is finicky to be engaged and disengage compared to ranger based on my experience.
Go to ranger if you want gearbox money pit problem.
Men here in the Philippines its back cam is center and great jezzz that's awful in your country

Kemalangan membabit kereta pacuan empat roda beigini adalah amat tinggi. Kuasanya yg tinggi jika dikendaili oleh mat samseng jalan raya boleh diumpamakan seperti membawa sepucuk pistol belega2 tunggu mencari mangsa. Kerajaan harus membanteras kereta2 demikian atas jalan raya atau pun terhad kegunaan pendalaman saja. Tidak sesuai di bandaraya.
