Ninja slayer is great, but I think it's not really popular because it's not on Japanese TV, which makes it not the normal kind of anime

Maybe it would have worked with an Inferno Cop reference. I don't think Ninja Slayer got nearly as much exposure, but I'm basing that on pure speculation since I sometimes see people mention Inferno Cop and almost never see a mention of Ninja Slayer.

It was made by Studio Trigger before they took off with Little Witch Academia, it's kinda low budget, but that adds to its charm, I think
TL note: kaigai-niki means foreign viewers
It's like the fansub of death note where the sub says 'just according to keikaku (TL note: keikaku means plan)

"Ninja Warrior" on the other hand.. explains why there's not much known about the slayers xD
Well Ninja Slayer is both an anime series and a movie. About Yagyu Jubei, not sure if you can call him a ninja, more of a ronin fighting ninjas with supernatural powers while all he has are his wits and skills with the sword. So practically ancient Ninja Gaiden
