P 10C so called fatal flaw

  • I attempt to recreate, on the firing line, the so called "fatal flaw" of the P-10C "rotating striker hang up". It didn't quite work as advertised. probably my fault for not failing the correct way. Edit to add - this is the very FIRST generation of P-10C pistols. This was superseded by a Transitional Generation halfway through 2018, equipped with a striker channel restricting striker movement, then a 2nd Generation also now being built in the US in 2019, incorporating other small design changes. Look up my other videos on the P-10C White Nitride and the P-10S.

    The P10-C has been tested, tortured and used probably more than any other since it came out in 2017, i have mine for 3 years its my duty gun, i also practice with it at the range, i shot over 20k, I've never had a single malfunction.

    It's Aug 2018, son's P10c purchased in Jan or Feb of 18 doesn't exhibit that travel in firing pin as well as other 'hiccups' in construction noted on other channels to include exposed spring on left side of firing block, magazine catching, and trigger assembly rubbing/catching on firing block. CZ has shaved and nipped/tucked appropriately to eliminate those potential failure points. Gun has been flawless after 2000 rounds. Great trigger, sight picture and super accurate.

    I know this video is 2 years old but I felt like I should add my experience with the P10C. Solid reliable gun but at about the 1000 round point the slide would ,lock open after every shot. A small spring that holds the slide lock lever down had slipped off the “ledge” where it hooked and on recoil the slide lock button would engage.
    Called CZ they immediately sent shipping info. In leu of shipping my gun away I disassembled it and very slightly bent the spring so it engaged the ledge with a little more pressure. After another 500 rounds it has been flawless again. Like this gun so much I bought a second one.

      A follow up two years later. Still, shooting the P10C every week, close to 10,000 rounds through it now and still no malfunctions that are not ammo related. Replaced the recoil spring about a year ago because the screw holding the retaining cap on the original recoil spring one came apart and the guide rod was no longer “guiding”. But it still shot and cycled just fine.

    Awesome video man. I was hoping you can answer a question for me that no1 on youtube can answer. My friend has a new p10c supressor ready. Right out the box he cleaned and lubed it. Using Winchester white box 115 grain it had a failure to feed on the 2nd shot and the 9th shot. The mag was a 10 round mag loaded with 5 rounds on the first string, then 5 rounds on the second go. After the second failure to feed it ran flawlessly after. Any thoughts on what might have caused that. And this is the updated p10c with the new backplate etc. Thanks .

    This failure for the slide to fully go into operation occurred with me in conjunction with a round being out of spec by having an overall length slightly longer than normal. When this occurred the slide would jam out of battery, I had to drop the mag and very aggressively rack the slide in order to clear the round and release the slide back into battery. This would only happen in conjunction without a round that was out of standard by length. But, when this occurred it was a booger to fix and get the gun fully operational again.

    • @armoredman
      @armoredman  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Were they handloads or factory ammo? Sometimes CZ has what's called a "short chamber", meaning that some overly long rounds with wide bullet ogives can get hung up in the rifling before it's fully chambered. I had this issue with Berrys Target Hollow Point bullet - had to load them to 1.02 to get them to function right, in ANY CZ...even the Scorpion.

      Now you are talking and giving me some interesting information that I didn't know. Thank you. That is good to know! I was factory Winchester Whitebox. • @armoredman

      That, unfortunately, is more common than it should be in generic ammo, especially remanufactured commercial ammo. It seems like you have to work hard to make this malfunction happen. I can't think of any reason to sllloooowwwly let the slide close like that, or any instance where that would happen. And even if you do let it close slowly, you have to manually push the striker over. And if you make the malfunction happen, you rack the slide (which you'd have to do anyway to chamber a round,) and it's fixed. Am I missing something?

    • @armoredman
      @armoredman  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope, you have it down pat - thats what the guy was saying those several years ago when this was an issue. Everything has been modified so the striker cannot even rotate over anymore, so it's a moot point now, but yes, the thing had to be set up manually.

    I'd say a bigger "flaw" is that if you slam a loaded magazine in, it will close the slide and chamber a round without touching the slide release. It's easily avoided by not jamming the mag in as hard as you can, but still.

    • @armoredman

  • @briandavid9462
    @briandavid9462 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just saw this video so I am a little late to the party here but I do not think what you demonstrated accurately reflects the real failure Shaun Ryan and Travis Kennedy had when demonstrating the pistol. The 2 former Navy Seals had a failure that would have been catastrophic in a gun fight and with all of their considerable training they could not easily rectify. Maybe CZ has fixed these issues but it was enough to give me pause and scrap my decision to buy one. I am sticking with my Glock.

    • @armoredman
      @armoredman  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually it shows exactly what the reported problem was with the rotating striker, which I set up multiple times as shown. Yes, you are way late t the party, as CZ has addressed this years ago, and only the very first generation P-10C pistols, like my EDC, are still in that configuration, with no issues with thousands of rounds through it. There is a program for a free upgrade through CZ for owners of the first gen pistols for the newer slide which now fixes the striker in its channel, as I showed elsewhere. Again, it's whatever you want to take away from the video, I make no money ere, but I replicated and then easily cleared the reported problem with ease, as shown multiple times. As for Glock - I qualify Expert r Distinguished Expert with the G19 every year with my Dept, but I just can't stand the grip angle. Nothing wrong with the gun, just doesn't fit me worth a darn.

    Hello,
    I think that the bad function that people attribute to this gun has to do with the lack of knowledge when it comes to cleaning and lubricating the weapon. The same problem happens to them as the Glock, if you oil the mechanism of the firing pin, they simply do not shoot and a kind of malfunction of the weapon is created. Something basic and simple, not excessive oil in the weapon, only in the few points indicated by the manufacturer. Thanks for the video. 5up.

      There have been some reports of the slide cover dropping down in the back to hang up the slide, said to be caused by the striker rebound, as the striker spring is what holds it in place, allowing a microsecond of travel downward. A few people on CZ Forum czfirearms.us reported this and one person beveled some of the edges on his slide cover to address it. The rotating striker issue seems to be something oddball, which is why I made this quick video. I had to deliberately setup the malfunction, and it cleared itself with manipulation of the slide.

  • @judahlion5826
    @judahlion5826 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Actually, my back plate is always dropped down! If I push the back plate up and remove the pressure from my finger it automatically drops back down. It only seems to cause a hangup when I am using Winchester white box ammo and a couple of rounds are out of spec by being a little longer than standard. I watched the Omaha Outdoors video just now for the first time and what happened to him with the back plate and striker is the exact same thing that happened to me. Sometimes the slide will NOT go into battery and makes the gun inoperable. You can't bang the slide home or rack it with the mag in. I had to drop the mag and rack the slide a couple or three times to make the slide go into battery. This sucks because it is not reliable for CCW. You can't depend on it to save your life. I hate this because it is the most accurate gun I own and I own quite a few and it has a very good trigger, but it just isn't reliable with this issue. th-cam.com/video/W1jZiqTad3I/w-d-xo.html

      Yes, I chose this one because one gun company claimed it happened to them but couldn't replicate the event without the physical manipulation thereof, so I chose this to show why it was/is a non issue. That particular FDE P-10C is still running strong factory stock with going on 3,000 rounds through it. If you look at my second P-10C White Nitride video you will see me drop mags from the mag release and release the slide with the slide stop - they are stiffer than almost every sidear I have ever owned before, but they clean up very quickly.

      armoredman I know that but from what I've seen on my own CZ P-10C,CZ USA can only do band aid fixes to the current generation of P-10C's I very much wanted to keep my CZ P-10C but after hearing about the frame cracks I threw in the towel on mine. I went back to Glock because I need a gun to be ultra reliable for EDC. I'm also am looking at a S&W M&P 2.0 Compact as a EDC and maybe a Styer.
      Check out Earl An's TH-cam channel on the CZ P-10C for known issues on the CZ P-10C. Now if Glock can take a hint from CZ and make their pistols more ergonomic and look. Hope your CZ P-10C does you you right.

      I watched his video - he spent a lot of time talking about what he'd heard, not what he had seen. I posted what I actually had seen and done with my bone stock sidearm...and his are anything but. ;) Nice work he had done, too. I haven't taken out the block to see about frame cracks, because I am not a gunsmith nor do I play one on TV, but mine seems to be running just fine with well north of 1000 rounds through it. To be honest, I should have run a round count on it, but I never did before, and I never figured I needed to, my bad. I would say that I qualify with Glocks as Expert or Distinguished Expert every year with my Dept, and I just can't stand them. Nothing wrong with the guns, good, solid, reliable sidearms - they just don't fit me worth a darn. CZ ergos fit me beautifully. If you like CZ ergos - have you looked at a PCR?

    Was very excited about this pistol upon first hearing about it- BUT- There is just way too many issues to consider this pistol as a safe reliable EDC weapon. Maybe in 2-3 years after CZ works out all the bugs- SO not the Glock Killer.

      I think the negatives are overblown, from my direct experience, but absolutely, come back in a year. Might have the P-10S and P-10F by then, maybe even coming of the US factory. Always remember, Glock keeps making changes to thier "perfection" 30+ years after it's introduction...which I do remember. :)

      Great comments to consider- I promised myself I WOULD NEVER carry a plastic gun- In 2000 I was forced to start carrying a Glock 23 - then Glock 22- Then Glock 19 until my retirement. 1000's of rounds through these Glocks with NO (NONE) ISSUES at all. Another guy on another dept. didn't clean his Glock for 2 years- No issues. (I still don't understand how he got away with this) But the proof is there for Glock- It is PERFECTION.

    • @armoredman
      @armoredman  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've had three Glocks fail in my hand or i front of me, including a G17 1st gen that broke the slide under the ejection port, and an issued G19 3rd gen that had the mag catch fail, wouldn't retain the mag while I was trying qualify again with my dept - 15 years in so far. Nothing made by man is perfect. I ran a vz-58 for over 3000 rounds of dirty reloads before it started to stutter, and I have heard of Old Dirty, an FAL that hasn't been cleaned since I was in high school, and still runs. I tried it with my Scorpion, chickened out at 2000 rounds and cleaned it. I have had dadgum every brand made fail in my hands, including CZ, Ruger, Smith, Glock, HK, Walther and Taurus. Jennings, Raven and Davis too, but they fail on EVERYONE, so that's no big deal. What works for me is how infrequently they fail, and yes, Glock is generally reliable, dependable accurate sidearm - it doesn't fit my hand worth a tinker's damn. BTW, how often did your buddy shoot his Glock for 2 years? I know many sworn staff at my Dept who qualify once a year and never fire a round since then, and others, like me who hit the range once a week if we can.

    • @mclerj0577
      @mclerj0577 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      His dept is very (was- retired now) aggressive on pistol qualification- at least 4 times a year and then in service training at the range at various times of the year. I would guess he put at least 500 rounds a year through the thing at the range. I am being conservative in that number.

    • @armoredman
      @armoredman  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok, pretty much a casual shooter and qualifier. Never going to overstress the equipment that way. :) I've put over 2K through this one and I haven't owned it a year yet, but, I reload my own ammo and cast my own bullets, as I pointed out, so it's really cheap to shoot, plus that nice range I'm on is absolutely free. :D

      I'm a little confused - you mean when "the gun doesn't go into battery"? That is a phrase that means when the slide is fully home and the round is fully seated, ready to fire. that is "in battery'". Otherwise a "battery" in firearms parlance is a battery of artillery, meaning a group of big guns in the military organized into a coherent unit. Was there something else you found confusing? I have done plenty of research on this pistol and I have never encountered the so called flaw you speak of. I would say possibley you are way too down in the weeds of some glock fan boy message boards... get out and enjoy life. No need to troll the trollers. They feel like their beloved Glock is threatened... that is okay. The CZ is not the only Glock killer on the market today. I do really love CZ but today I would buy the Ruger Security 9. It has a lower price point and it simply works... oh and btw it drives gun snobs absolutely nuts. Ruger is made in America and I do put a high priority on that fact when it is quality and a good price.

    • @armoredman
      @armoredman  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm thinking you might missed the point of the video due to its age - people around the 'net WERE talking about this so-called flaw when I made this video. Do note it is from a year and a half ago. Since that time the P-10 series has gone through two redesigns, including the addition of a non rotating striker, to sooth worriers. I have several thousand rounds through both the featured sidearm, my EDC P-10C White Nitride and now the wifes Gen 2 P-10S, with only the one break in jam on that - see that video at th-cam.com/video/5Mbo5yhqpYE/w-d-xo.html . The other two continue to be bobble free.
      As for Ruger - not a damn thing wrong with Ruger, made right up the street from me and the EC9S is on my radar for a deep BUG. The other pistol grips just don't fit me quite as well as CZs grip ergos, but that's subjective. Everyone likes something different, and Ruger makes a damn fine product.
      Oh, BTW, I have never visited GlockTalk, don't like Glocks, even though I qualify Expert or Distinguished Expert almost every year with the issued G19.

    • @armoredman

      And that is the beauty of America, diversity of choice, buy and carry whatever you want, Colt, Smith, CZ, Ruger, Hi Point, whatever works for you. I also never go to GlockTalk, sorry - give them my regards.

    • @armoredman
      @armoredman  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are no ricochets from the steel plate, amigo. The bullets are disintegrating - watch under the steel and you'll see the dust line. There are ricochets when I MISS the target once in a while, especially at that point you mentions, 5.07 - I was just shooting at the far berm, not really hitting anything. You can hear when I hit the target. The sounds of things hitting the ground are the ejected empty brass bouncing off the concrete. I've been shooting here for over 10 years and shooting steel for most of it - it's angled well down to avoid any possible rebound.

      You probably missed the thing that got this started way back in 2017, when a guy claimed the CZ P-10C had a fatal flaw in that the slide would hang up on the striker when it rotated in it's channel. It was utter BS and I proved here that even if it had happened, it was an easily correctable thing. The other thing is not long after I made this video, the company changed the design slightly to stop the striker from rotating at all. So a non issue became an even more non issue.

      I prefer not to name call people, really - I have to carry the Glock 19 at work, and have qualified Expert or Distinguished Expert with them for 15 years - I can't stand the grip angle. Had three of them fail in front of me or in my hand. One 19 bloke the magazine catch spring while I was qualifying with it one year, wouldn't retain a magazine after that. Watched a G17 crack its slide under the ejection port, too - in all fairness, the only way the shooter noticed something was wrong was the POI shifted to the left. I use Glock professionally, because I have to, but carry one? No way, had far more of them break on me than CZs, and they don't fit me worth a darn. ;) Funny you didn't respond to my comment a month ago, but did respond to 15ZQ8.
