About the drop shot: Henry Dick Thompson, notable SOG warrior and has been on Jocko podcast several times, he trained to do this and used it quite effectively in ‘Nam. CAR-15 with 20rd mags. He said when those AKs go full auto they rise, so if the first rounds missed you and you get down quickly, you had more time to engage and a pretty high chance of surviving the contact.
Actually good(real??!?) information in a garand thumb video? 👍
I wonder if dumping the gun straight onto the mag with full force would cause any issues?

Thats some fine journalism right there! Thank you
Micah: He [the enemy] is going to be aiming for center mass.
CS players: Pathetic.
Well that's definitely the case for call of duty, as headshot multipliers actually being useful is rare. Except in black ops 2 with the scar-h, god I love that gun and game. You could 2 shot the head in closer range. Scar-h with a suppressor and stacked up on perks = one of the best Loadouts in all of call of duty.
@@Ripa-Morameemdr was so fire in bo2, also the m995 cant remeber the actual name in game
@@Ripa-Moramee Ive only played CoD 2 and i remember that aiming for the head was a bad idea with the exception of situations where the head was the only part of the enemy that was exposed. I never got into any subsequent CoD installments (excluding single player campaigns) and i went from CoD 2 straight to CSS. I had to unlearn aiming for the chest and learn to aim for the head instead. Headshots only servers helped a lot.
@@Likexner There are other examples, take the game I mentioned before, black ops 2. The SVU draganov could 1 shot the head up to a certain range (I'm almost 100% sure it wasn't at any range). At the end of the day though, generally in cod you aim for the body. Chances are you are gonna win a gun fight 9/10 times so long as you can track and hit more shots than your opponent, regardless of where the shots hit.
@@Ripa-Moramee In CoD2, the drop'n'shoot strategy was actually useful with auto guns, especially the stg44. You could start shooting before you were even 100% on target, aim high, drop while doing it and thanks to the stg44's vertical spray pattern with very little horizontal spread, you had a good chance of hitting the head at some point. If not, the shots would still at least hit the neck and chest. So in specific situations, you could target the head in a way. It was more about using inaccuracy to your advantage than trying to score precise hits.
The look of sheer joy on these guys faces had me laughing so hard. This is what too much fun looks like

SF Vietnam SOG warrior Dick Thomson used the drop shot. He talked about it on the Jocko podcast. He tells a story where he got a drop shot triple kill on VC while rescuing a downed helicopter crew by himself behind enemy lines in the jungles of Cambodia (after falling 120ft through the jungle canopy). Probably the greatest war story I’ve ver heard, everyone should go listen.

Bit of trivia, The SOG guys during Vietnam would drill diving for cover while dumping a full mag from a car-15 at multiple targets, basically drilling if you suddenly find yourself 15ft from an enemy patrol, and some of them apparently got pretty good at it. Not a situation you want to be in for sure. But in the jungle, shit can come at you out of nowhere.
Dude have u been on a SOG reading binge as well? Absolute F*ing legends all of them, those stories will live rent free with me for the rest of my life
I was actually coming into the comments to mention this. I've also seen it done lots of times by troops from several nations in some older 1960-1980 war footage. And a few times in WWII footage - usually when there's sudden incoming ambush fire from a nondescript direction.

That would a bit dangerous with two handguns, they could shoot their own hands if not paying attention.
@@YAHYEL-ANUNNAKIare any of these not dangerous
@@42crazyguy Yeah they're all really dangerous but at least with the drop shot stuff they had 3 points of contact decent control over the weapon even with the added lack of control of falling/impact. Doing anything falling and shooting with 2 pistols with 1 point of contact each is just begging for a Darwin award it's on a completely different scale of dangerous.
Also how accurate can you be blind firing from cover like in Gears
Same lmao
The guys in MACV SOG, interviewed on the Jocko podcast, said they trained to jump to prone while simultaneously shooting at a target. It was to be able to minimize themselves in case of an ambush or surprise engagement.
So, not just for the videogames 😘

As far as the drop shot. I was watching an interview with a veteran of MAC V SOG. Where this veteran would practice a drop shot. With a CAR-15, with a 20 round magazine. Now according to the interview, he was capable of shooting between 3 to 5 man sized targets at 10 yards.
Those guys had weeks long stretches of downtime with nothing to do but get hammered and brainstorm, then practice with the most ridiculous and absurd tactics and homemade equipment you can imagine. It's fantastic.
I believe you’re referring to the jocko podcast with “Frenchman” Doug Letourno(sp?).
Seems like a viable tactic for someone if they’re short, starting in a crouch already, and have a LOT of practice.
@@paulwilliams667 Out of all of them it seems the most plausible irl, it could catch someone off and be a good move if you yourself aren't already in position. But just already being down or holding a position is infinitely better. Better to drop shooting if you can be accurate with it then just hit the ground, cause if you just stand there and fire you're dead.
Sorta like the anti knife moves in martial arts. You absolutely never want to be in a position where you have to go bare hands vs someone with a knife. But if you do, well here is a move that might save your ass.

I heard about a U.S. soldier in Vietnam who fired 2 handguns at the same time. He was alone and wasn't going for lethality, but for suppression. I think he magdumped both guns and dipped. Apparently in that context it worked.
I remember that story the guy was a sniper from what I recall. Was it history Channel?
@@taylorbennion3706 can't remember where I saw it, but I think you're right about him being a sniper.
I think it was Carlos Hathcock. The story as I remember it was he ran through an enemy camp firing his 2 1911s (I believe they were his and his spotters sidearms). They were taken unawares and panicked thinking they had been raided by a large force, and in the chaos he slipped away. I'm sure its not too hard to look up the full story.
