fact remains that many facets of the alternative health industry simply wouldn't exist if it weren't for disorders like schizophrenia, etc.

it's so good to see you. i turned on the computer hoping there was a video. more power to you. but i know a keto diet is not for me. i put exercise above everything. i see a therapist every month. it was every week for many years and it kept me out of the hospital and jail.

While I understand and I’m happy for your recovery I would be cautious about recommending it as a new model. We simply don’t know enough at this point. While your experience is highly positive you can find anecdotes on the internet of people’s depression getting worse on keto. In fact research on diet and depression found only 1 diet to help with depression - the Mediterranean diet, not Keto. Some people achieve complete recovery from depression with Cognitive Behavoural Therapy. We’re all different and this pyramid will look different for all of us.

Tried medical keto and i could only get into therapeutic ketosis for a couple of times throughout the entire 2,5 months i was on it. Was extremely difficult as i tried everything to raise my ketones to no avail (exercise, circadian rhythm, lowering carbs to -15, lowering protein to -55, increasing fat to 300-350+, moving most of the day, fasting, and electrolytes). I wanted it to work so bad because when i felt the therapeutic effects of ketosis, i was a night and day different than my usual extremely sick self. I will give it another chance next time but only under a professional’s supervision. Hopefully they could help maintain therapeutic ketosis all day everyday and not just for some part of the day every 4-5 days…

Sorry to hear it was difficult to maintain therapeutic ketosis. It was really really helpful for me to be working closely with a metabolic practitioner who could help me troubleshoot and optimize the intervention. Glad to hear you’re going to give that a shot! Something else to consider is that some medications can make it much harder to get into ketosis. Obviously this does not mean just go off them, but it’s an additional aspect that a metabolic practitioner could help navigate.

I love this ❤. Am planning on experimenting with ketogenic diet. I know for sure that when I eat a more fatty, less carby diet, I feel better. Good, in fact. Would be interested to see whether keto diet could help me off antidepressants.

It could be metabolism but there are a half dozen other, even simpler explanations. For example some cycloid psychosis may respond to changes in potassium, also there are reports of cycloid psychosis being halted with low sodium diets. The ion channels would be an obvious canditate for cases with cycloid or fluctuating symptoms and keto has pronounced diuretic effect. The advantage of an electrolyte or ion transport explanation is that it would account for the widespread reports of sudden and dramatic worsening of symptoms that some people experience. Both the sudden worsening and sudden improvement are not well accounted for in the metabolic explanation.

I guess that integrating emergency and long term medical/pharmacological and metabolic therapies must be complex. Another challenge will be recognizing who would benefit most by different approaches.

Bodies are composed of cells, and cells need the presence of certain molecules in order to function, so we need to provide our body with the molecules it needs to function. And this is revolutionary? It's basic physical reality.

Great basics. I would add it's about good nutrition, with the main culprit being the food bioweapon, iron fortified gluten containing wheat, that's in almost all processed foods, and iron fortification in general, eg corn flakes. Ketosis would be in addition to not consuming those foods.

If PTSD, Altzimers, PD &, Depression can all now be Repaired with Metobolic Therapies, then they must start treating Schizophrenia in exaactly the same way.?
The problem, sadly will be the companies using their minions to protect their revenue.. Obviously.

It always bothers me when she says that this is not the "fad diet" but intentional ketogenic nutritional therapy. What is different? People that are dieting to lose weight also have health problems. Dr. Palmer put his patient on the keto diet to lose weight then discovered that it helped his mental illness. One of the people who works for metabolic mind also mentions that she did this healing diet herself. I'm interested in the specifics of what Lauren thinks changes the fad diet to an intentional diet. Is it just stricter? Paying more attention to the ratios. I know that there are specific forms of the diet done for epilepsy that are less strict and no tracking of the ratios. That's done with a care team so I'm just wondering what changes it from fad to therapeutic.

God is in us, and we are in God all the time. I am you, and you are me, and we always have been. We are the stardust and water, the mountains and the beaches, and what we see in front of our eyes is no more real than the dreams we have at night. I'm no longer afraid to die now; death is the beginning of the real adventure.
Just sit there to contemplate it all after you come back because you're gonna see such crazy and radical things in these trips. That when you come back you're gonna be like what the fuck was that? And you're gonna spend a week just in the shower, what the fuck was that? Cooking your food, what the fuck was that? Driving to work, what the fuck was that? Sitting at work doing your work, what the fuck was that? Thinking that. Trying to wrap your mind around it. Try to remember and trying to figure it out and that's a very valuable process.
You can literally hallucinate objects and beings into existence because what's happening is you're tapping into that pure abstract creative potential of mind. That's exactly what you want. Of course it can be kind of freaky but sleep is that times a thousand.

This is completely false on how psychiatry approaches things. Any psych worth their salt will recommend lifestyle changes before/in addition to other treatments.
Sure enough you're trying to sell peer support that requires a patreon sub.

name one paper about "broken (metabolic) pathways" in connection to schizophrenia or mental illness in general!
she now acts as though she had a phd in biochemistry... her talk is nothing but unproven theories... if Lauryn was able to mechanistically prove the theory behind the biologic basis of schizophrenia she'd have won the nobel prize in medicine or physiology by now... but no, she even claims to have found a cure for it (!); quite an achievement considering she hasn't published one research paper on the topic!

she's relaying information that has been gathered by people with phds and medical degrees if that's your concern. There are resources here on youtube like the metabolic mind channel that go into more detail. And also, she speaks from personal experience, which to some people counts as much as the current findings of researchers. And she's not the first to speak on this.
