when you said out and about the first time i ahd to repeat it cause that it totally Canadian Katie 🤣 then to see that outtake at the end - hilarious 🤣🤣🤣
The Art Deco piece that you've been "eyeing" is by The Honderich Furniture Co.(Canada).. After passing through many name changes and many owners.. They finally settled on that one in 1926.. Elizabeth Honderich became their Furniture Designer in 1941 fresh out of Art School... That particular piece is from their Dinning Room Collection..which won a Design Award from the Canadian Furniture Mart in 1967... Sadly though.. Honderich was bought out by Electrohome..which desperately wanted to transition into the "digital age".. nothing to do with the great cabinet and furniture company it once was... Electrohome's run came to slow end in the 90s and early 2000s.. Seeing such quality piece that has survived all these years.."restores" the memory of Canada's foremost cabinet and furniture history. What a great find!... I would pay the $150.00 as is... ✌️❤️😎👍
I totally agree that the bar pulls should never be replaced with two knobs. Thanks for taking us along on your thrifting junket. I appreciate your opinion and expertise.
Great to trip the life fantastic around and about as you look for stuff and things. Was a learning experience. Thank you. Stay well. Spring is a comin'
What you do is total genius. With reference to thwacking the new top for the Target pieces, perhaps you should add to your motto "Sometimes I paint and sometimes I don't" with "Sometimes I repair damage and sometimes I inflict it." 😁
I have an art deco waterfall dresser on my to-do list when spring comes along. A neighbour who moved put it curbside so I moved it to our house in a wheelbarrow. Would you ever do a video giving your viewers some refinishing ideas for their finds? Could be interesting.
Oh Thank You for the tour around Moncton! My Dad was originally from there and it's been years since I was last there 💖 I also wanted to thank you for showing the do's and don't of thrift store furniture shopping the choices are mind boggling! I would have definitely bought the vanity as well! Good Job! Another GREAT video! Thanks Katie
This was really a masterclass on selecting used furniture for restoration or redesign. Thank you si much for taking us along, and explaining how you make your selections.
I found this video very informative n helpful thank you for that. To those who do what you do, I’m sure they appreciate it. I’ve done many antique pieces of furniture. I guess that’s where my heart is at. But I do find what you do with each piece turn’s awesome. Whether you decide to refinish or paint, you do a beautiful job. Thanks for taking us along. ♥️😊👍👍👍
Fun video Katie! I like how you shared your ideas and tips even for the pieces you did not purchase. Looking forward to the makeovers of the 2 pieces you bought.
That’s SO FUNNY!! As soon as you said “out and about”I thought to myself (or perhaps said to my dogs) the two words that tell me someone is from Canada!! My grandmother was from Nova Scotia!
This was fun to see my local stores. I agree that the selection is not great. I’m disappointed that the community has stopped the spring and fall big garbage pickup. My daughter furnished her whole first appartment that way!
That MCM Honderich sideboard would look awesome just stripped and treated with a good coat of Odies Oil. The natural colour of that wood will be beautiful!
I’ve really loved your commentary. This is a great video. Thank you so much! I know our comments help your channel with their algorithm. I want to support our wonderful TH-cam contact providers.
I like this style of video. It helps me learn what to look for and how to tell of a piece is worth or not. Seems also that there is a shortage of furniture to flip. Here in CT USA, I haven’t found anything. I also have noticed a big growth in the flipping furniture community
Sure enjoyed the shopping with you! Me and my daughter live to Thrift everything! She recently furnished a house with quality pieces from all the local stores! Such fun! I just subscribed so I can go shop with you again soon!😂❤❤❤❤
The prints in the final store! My grandma did needle point for the same thing. I still have them, rolled & put away. I should showcase them in my house somehow. ❤️
I actually have the complementary pieces to the cranberry dresser. They were made here in Winnipeg and I bought a desk/vanity first which had some water damage. I scraped off the loose veneer on the edges and it turned out to have solid wood, also oak underneath which I painted a navy blue. There was a piece of thick bevelled glass on the top which I kept. Turned out great. It also has a mirror!. While I was looking for something to complement that piece on the other side of the bed I found two matching smaller dressers, bought and painted it to match. And yes, the drawers are something else! Smooth swoop bottom into the sides, no edges to open up or collect small stuff, dust or splinter!
Love it! Wow! Your prices really are a big step higher than here in Indiana. You have a lot of options to look near you! That’s great. Love your bloopers, too! Great video!
That MCM dresser was to....die.....for...... OMG! I was practically salivating. I hope you end up getting it and giving it some love. Your area's furniture options are as desolate as ours are....sadly.
That was a very eye opening exploration. Would the last resale shop ever consider letting you take the special pieces you like and flip them back to them to resell at a higher price? Seems like it might be a win/win situation.....? Also, sometime you can find nice inexpensive furniture in antique shops.
I've gotten old Vanity for free. It similar what you got I havent done anything to it yet had for 3 years. Can wait to see what you have plan for it. Need some idea's
Hi Katie, your hair looks gorgeous. Thanks for the tour. I love the art deco dresser, with the round mirror, will you video the makeover? Take care Gale x
some really neat pieces at that last store. I have a Goodwill that I find great furniture at, hit and miss of course. This may sound bad, but you kinda get the feeling that maybe someone died and this is the stuff nobody wanted so they donated it. Some of the pieces just look like they came from the same house, ya know? I have been trying to figure out a way to get more surface space on my current craft desk and found an awesome art deco desk for 39.99! I passed on it my first visit but had regrets so went back the next day, measured and inspected it. Asked if they could do better on the price, got it for 29.99!. The best part was when my husband, daughter and son in law went to pick it up.......they noticed that 2 of the legs were bent up (but they knew it was an easy fix). Probably because they didn't want to move this heavy thing back to the show floor, they gave me a gift card for 10.00 at goodwill so all said and done I got this awesome big ole desk for 19.99. I love it as is, I just cleaned it up and it is perfect in my craft room.
thanks so much for this info video. I have dabbled in furniture painting but am thinking about moving to larger pieces. Great to know what to look for and what to leave alone! Love that you are kn Canada so all the big stores are around me as well eh?
Thanks for this video. I need an inexpensive display case and I see those hutches in the trash all the time. I'm going to see how hard it is to hook a couple together to make a tall case
I love the way you say "out and about". and I love your projects....seems like you have a lot of thrift stores in your area..lucky!! I also love the St. Hubert Restaurant in Moncton. We travel through there on our way to NL in the summertime. We have a summer house up there. Cheers from sunny FL :)
First time watching you, Love watching you going into all the thrift stores and seeing all the different types of furniture. But some of the pricing is a little crazy,
This was a fantastic video to watch. Really enjoyed your commentary and the vibe you have. Guess I'll have to sub to hear more about your adventures :)
Hello Katie. Do you use something to prevent copper from tarnishing? I'm new to restoring items and I'm learning a lot from your videos. Thanks you Anita
what a shame the mid-century modern buffet at around 15mins is not in your price range yet: I'd love to see you bring that one back to life!! (especially what you would do with the drawer "pulls'" - they are so unusual!). But otherwise I'm not surprised you only got two things: it was a bit of a depressing selection, wasn't it? I hope you'll have a bonanza of roadside recovery items very soon to replenish your stocks free of charge! kindest regards, k
Hi Katie, the vanity at the front of the RE Store is not Art Deco (Arts & Crafts period). It looks more like made in the 1940's, possibly early 1950's. My oldest sister had one so similar - she's 83. Art Deco, although beefy looking, has a bit more ornamentation and made in the 1920's and 30's.
It is in fact an Art Deco waterfall style piece from the 1930’s. Waterfall is a style of furniture design from the 1930s and 1940s. It was the most prevalent variation on Art Deco furniture during this time, primarily created for the mass market and for bedroom suites.
I loved going scouting with you! I envy your possibilities. I live in "sorta" your neck o' the woods (Lubec, Maine/Campbello Island) and we have NO thrift stores. It would take a trip to Calais and there's nothing worth talking about there. However, I now live in a small, one-bedroom apartment, so there's no space to work on furniture. Grrr!
Grew up in Rochester and am used to oout and ahboot (Scottish accent), or Canada west coast lilt and eh... 😁👍...Lynchburg VA does the Scottish + southern y'all..that was a surprise. 😁
Great video - I like that you are very strict about pieces you bring home. It can be easy to end up with a death pile of pieces that you never get around to or have little inspiration for. Been there ;-)
I used to be able to get free and cheap furniture every time I went out but those days are gone. I barely can find anything to work on anymore. Not on marketplace or thrift stores. Things have changed so much lately.
Am in the UK, the prices in charity shops for most stuff nowadays is so expensive. And so many are closing down. But I'm not surprised because of the prices of things. There is one or too that is reasonable , but I think they have just gone greedy. And ots silly because the stuff doesn't sell , then they send it to other shops.
Lateral filing cabinets are perfect garage storage for spay paints and chemicals and fit perfectly along walls in the garage.
What a great use!
I have 3 tall ones in my garage that we had in our business years ago...now they house our tools and such.
I was thinking about those also! I’d love to see something cool with those, so many of us have home offices these days
It was so helpful seeing what you actually look for in buying a piece of furniture. Please do it again.
when you said out and about the first time i ahd to repeat it cause that it totally Canadian Katie 🤣 then to see that outtake at the end - hilarious 🤣🤣🤣
I like how you shared in depth what you would do and why or not do at all. So helpful for beginners!
I’m so glad you found it helpful!
I can't wait to see you what you do with that old vanity!
There is certainly no shortage of cheesy, pressed board furniture! I love when you take one of these pieces and transform it into something stunning!

This was fun. Loved hearing your decision-making process and the evolution of your business all in one.
I totally agree that the bar pulls should never be replaced with two knobs. Thanks for taking us along on your thrifting junket. I appreciate your opinion and expertise.
Katie. Here in the UK we know that when you say out and 'aboot' that's when we know a Canadian. I love to hear it! 🤗
Great to trip the life fantastic around and about as you look for stuff and things. Was a learning experience. Thank you. Stay well. Spring is a comin'

Oh those pretty Canadian roads with alittle snow
Thank you, thank you, thank you. This was a very informative video and, in case you missed it, one that I am appreciative for. Great job!

I enjoyed the thrifting with you. It's so interesting and you have a lot of places to go. And how the prices are so different.
Fun video Katie! I like how you shared your ideas and tips even for the pieces you did not purchase. Looking forward to the makeovers of the 2 pieces you bought.
Thanks so much Deanna ❤️
Enjoyed shopping with you and liked hearing your thinking about what to look for and possible pricing. Egad, prices sure were high.
Thanks for taking us along Katie! Very informative. Best wishes from Toronto 😊👍🇨🇦
Nice thrifty shopping 😮love how you know your woods, type area, and ideas, thank you for sharing. Look forward to seeing more.” 🙏😇
Great tips for newbies like me!, thanks.first time watching!
That’s SO FUNNY!! As soon as you said “out and about”I thought to myself (or perhaps said to my dogs) the two words that tell me someone is from Canada!! My grandmother was from Nova Scotia!
Enjoyed the ride along with you Katie. Very informative. Sorry you couldn't find more projects.
I feel SOOOOO much smarter! Thanks, Katie.
This was fun to see my local stores. I agree that the selection is not great. I’m disappointed that the community has stopped the spring and fall big garbage pickup. My daughter furnished her whole first appartment that way!
I enjoyed the video good advice for my thrifting trips. I totally agree with you on the double knobs. I’ve never seen that before.
Thanks for that! A lot of really useful information.
Oh that was fun Katie! thanks for taking us along.
Metal file cabinets with pull handles make great meat smokers. There are a lot of How To videos on TH-cam on how to convert them.
That MCM Honderich sideboard would look awesome just stripped and treated with a good coat of Odies Oil. The natural colour of that wood will be beautiful!
Yes! I buy inexpensive ‘practice tables’ to try new things on. It is a great way to try things out and build confidence when doing something new.
If you plan on making nightstands with the vanity, I will buy them! 😍
I didn’t realize you were in Moncton! So am I. Thanks for showing me where to hunt.
I’ve really loved your commentary. This is a great video. Thank you so much! I know our comments help your channel with their algorithm. I want to support our wonderful TH-cam contact providers.
Interesting to hear how you evaluate furniture pieces.

I appreciate that!
The prints in the final store! My grandma did needle point for the same thing. I still have them, rolled & put away. I should showcase them in my house somehow. ❤️
Oh wow! You should definitely get them up and enjoy them ❤️❤️❤️
I enjoyed your visit to charity stores in search of future projects. Perhaps you might consider more such content in the future. Best wishes Alison

Really love how it turned out!
That MCM dresser was to....die.....for...... OMG! I was practically salivating. I hope you end up getting it and giving it some love. Your area's furniture options are as desolate as ours are....sadly.
Now that was an interesting trip 😎🐕🦺!
Our thrift stores here have raised their prices quite a bit recently. Still a good buy.
This was fun Katie
Holy Tamoly! That one store was huge. A person could get lost in there. Lol!

That dresser with thin drawers is for artwork or architecture plans.

I'm in Indiana and prices on Marketplace and thrift stores have been absolutely insane for the last several months!
Nice to see what is available in Moncton
My habitat is sometimes expensive too🤦🏽♀🤦🏽♀🤦🏽♀ love your video and energy👍👍👩🏽🦱
