The Trout Trilogy EP3 - Brown Trout on Lures in Wales - Last Days of the Season

  • The final video of the Trout Trilogy is finally here! Way back in September I had one of the toughest lure fishing sessions I experienced during the 2020 Trout season. The conditions combined with the added knowledge that it would be my last day targeting these amazing fish for months makes for some interesting viewing! I hope you enjoy the video and SUBSCRIBE if you do!
    It's been a long time coming has this video, through no fault other than my own! The delay was not due to the size of the task of compiling this video, it was a case of motivation and the worry that my final day fishing for Trout in 2020 perhaps wasn't worthy of an upload!
    However, once I'd starting piecing it together I gradually warmed to the idea of sharing this tough grind of a session. There're a few fish. There's a bit of scenery. And there's drama.
    As you'll see or have seen, I didn't take the event at the end very well at the time. After the blood sweat and tears of that session, as well as the whole season preceding it, and with no other chance to fish for them before season's end, the loss was fairly devastating. I look back at that footage now and laugh. I'm sure you've all felt that way when losing quality fish, and hopefully that ending makes you all laugh as well!
    Thanks for coming to the video folks. Please enjoy!

    Ahhh mate, no wonder you felt so upset! That fish was giving you a right run around. Made me laugh when you netted that branch 😂
    Again getting some great footage of the strikes. They are so aggressive

      Heartbreaking Steve 😂 It's a fine balance between giving it the beef and just pulling the hook out. In hindsight I should gone for a full lunge with the net rather than potching around!
      The net getting hung up can cause a verbal explosion when it keeps happening, I kept it calm there 😁
      Thanks for getting your lamps around my vids Steve! Shouldn't be long before I get another out! Cheers Steve!

      Hiya mate! You're very kind, and it's much appreciated!
      I'll probably include a segment in my next video which will run through some of the tackle in a more direct manner, rather than mentioning in passing!
      The season has started off quite hard, but I'm on the way to having enough footage to warrant a video!
      Thanks very much for the sub and the comment my friend!

    Hi bro !
    Stunning video, your river look a bit similar to the we have in east France !
    I was asking myslef, you fish for braid with fluorocarbon, what length of fluo do you use and wich knot do you make for attaching them together ??
    I'm a bit scared to jump on braid cuz i feel like my knot is not gonna pass soft in my rod haha !
    Thank you very much !

    • @TheFishist
      @TheFishist  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there mate! Thanks so much man, so cool that our waters are alike!
      I start off with probably around 60cm of 2 or 3kg fluoro, tied to 0.06mm 5kg Shimano Kairiki using a 4-Turn Water Knot!
      The knot ends up incredibly small and doesn't hinder casting. This is my preference, a lot of people use different knots such as the FG knot or Alberto knot! I like the 4-Turn because it's so easy to tie on the bank, even whilst walking!
      I hope this helps mate! Cheers!

    • @TheFishist
      @TheFishist  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there! The Calcutta is indeed stock, and manages some mega light weights out of the box. I've cast down to about a gram so far! Man I've only a day left till the season starts again, where will I be? Exactly where I lost that fish! Thanks for watching mate!

    Cracking vid, helping me get my fix until the 1st of April for when they come into season round me😢.Absolute stunning river your fishing there , wish there was some like that round my area, more like jungle warfare where I fish😂. Out of curiosity what size singles do you change out on the zoner minnows?

    • @TheFishist
      @TheFishist  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much man, glad to hear it's helping you through the down time! It is an absolute blinder of a river isn't it? I've fished some tighter venues like your locals and they definitely add an extra element of difficulty 😂 I'm swapping the hooks on my Zoners to a size 8 on the belly, and a size 6 on the tail! They can't catch each other with this configuration, means you're fishing effectively 99% of the time!

    Nice videos bro.
    Any tips how to start lure trout fishing in uk? Struggling to find a river wich is not just for fly fishing.

    • @TheFishist
      @TheFishist  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks a lot mate! Glad you liked the vids!
      Unfortunately there does seem to be a big bias towards fly only clubs on many trout rivers man.
      It’s just about searching your local area for somewhere which allows it! I’m lucky here in Wales tbh!

    How does that BFS rod compare to a finetail for trout

    • @TheFishist
      @TheFishist  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      My personal preference for the trout would have to be the Finetail Area, such an incredible action for absorbing those jumps and lunges!

    Some great waters there m8 , what sort of license you need for them, we're looking at going Wales for a few days when lockdown is over

    • @TheFishist
      @TheFishist  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks as always Darren! The stretches I fish are members waters, but once you’ve found a venue and sorted membership or day ticket it’s just a standard Coarse Non-Migratory Rod License and you’re set to go! Salmon and Sea Trout require the full Game Rod License to target though!
