Great stuff as always EOE! I find three reasons as per why so many athletes are leaving Nike, not necessarily in the this order of importance. One, Nike's strategy is to have less but more relevant and selected athletes (Cristiano, Mbappe, Vini Jr, Haaland) and drop others whose career is on the way down and less relevant (Kane, Sterling, Ramos, Lewandoski) in order to cut costs. Two, disrepute that a partnership of this type can bring to either side of the deal (Neymar's case to the brand, Biles' or Felix's to the athlete as there was a mismatch of values). And three, level of attention and customisation of the deal (Saka's case whose boots are inspired by his come up in West London), as some athletes like to feel more important and valued (not only by money) in these type of deals
Great additional points. The last point in particular has plagued Nike on a few occasions. It has been rumoured that both in sport and outside of sport, getting Nike to allow athletes or influencers the ability to design something more bespoke is extremely difficult.
They’re defo focusing on younger talents, even in football they’re signing players as young as 10 years old. Social media changed the game completely, all these young athletes/players are all micro influencers before they even go pro so it’s smart business.
I agree. I noticed a huge trend of them sponsoring a bunch of what I would consider coming from London Uk relatively unknown. But it seems to be working.
Okay thanks, where I am from, that’s how most would say it. We say Nike the way you would say bike or hike we do not say “Nai Key”. Appreciate the feedback though.
@@economicsofentertainment Exactly, that's how everyone says it where I am from. Are you canadian? In Canada (French region) everyone says it like you.
Who else do you think will leave Nike?

Quality watch as always. You should do one on adidas and how they have pivoted in the last three years. Anthony Edwards is going to be huge for them!
A video on Adidas is the works. Stay tuned!

Looks like Nike is getting detached from its roots (as all big corporates do)
Good point, we all have to pivot at some point in our lives……

@@economicsofentertainment thank you, for your reply! Hope you continue making good content 😉
@@FootBallonQc much appreciated. I just dropped two football related reaction videos, feel free to check them out.
I saw @thelongplayuk do a better breakdown of this
I disagree, I have seen both, I think this one is more detailed and easier to hear.
