Prepping is useful for so many things besides TEOTWAWKI scenarios. Job loss, power outages, winter storms, (God forbid) shelter in place, etc. My son was out of work for 2 weeks when the temps were -35° to -48°F and we had plenty of food so I didn't have to go shopping.

    Don't forget a manual can opener 😅

    • @kelcyjones6513
      @kelcyjones6513 29 วันที่ผ่านมา +9

And a spare. There's nothing worse than it falling apart after you cut into the can but haven't removed the "lid" completely.

    • @Metqa
      @Metqa 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

I think getting the kind of opener that cuts the can lid from the side would be useful. Fewer sharp edges and easier to reuse the cans and lids as makeshift temporary containers. Also, the kind I have doesn't have swing handles so fewer moving parts to break. Its just a bar that clamps down when turning and releases when reversing and the lid comes off without falling inside. I can even open a "dirty " can cuz it doesn't fall in into the food inside.

You’re doing great! The powdered butter is a great idea! If I may share? I do a lot of canning as a predominantly carnivore eating mom. We have a lot of canned broths & meats (some things from the store like chicken, we also grow our a lot of our own chicken, ducks, rabbits, goats, cows, & pigs - canned goat & duck is a favorite in our house! & if you never canned your own chicken, even if store bought chicken it tastes so much better than store canned chicken! You’ll be amazed….& maybe one day you can do a comparison on it for a video 😊 you can even can rotisserie chicken & the flavor is awesome).
I also like to stock up on cold pressed avocado oil because we make our own mayo & have found that the best oil for taste & while it’s not as good as tallow it’s better than soybean oil & tastes better than EVOO. I do like to stock up on salt, maple syrup, & rice from azure as I find they have some of the best deals in bulk. We get food grade buckets with gamma lids for things like rice, rice flour, etc as my family still eats a lot of this. Tallow you can find by the bucket full on Amazon btw, hopefully mine will last me a year 😂 I’m so lucky & blessed with my family. We’re blessed to have a farm & grow a lot for ourselves. We do get a lot of canned fish…..we do love tuna salads & salmon patties (or mackerel patties), that’s really the only meat we don’t can ourselves at our home.
But everyone is different, I’m not here to tell you or anyone what to do…. This is just me throwing out ideas if you did want to share ideas 😊 I also understand what works for me & my family may not work for other’s & vice-versa…
But I do want to shout out to you all that are making changes & wanting to do healthier options for your family & yourself…. Even if that means substituting sugar with honey or maple syrup….or if it’s stricter. We all are trying our best & you’re all doing great with the information you have ❤

I must have git that sense too. For some reason my store had the $0.60 /can tuna marked down to 3/$1. When I had a car, I drove by the store everyday and bought another full case of tuna each day till the sale ended. I bought over 60 cans of tuna, a quarter of a shelf filled in my pantry. I had no idea the non-sale price would double after! I'm still happily working on that stash of runa

I also wanted to have Carnivore foods on hand that would store for long term. I decided to make my own, so I bought a pressure canner and first made my own bone broths by roasting the bones in my oven and then cooking for several hours, then I put in glass Mason jars and pressure processed them. I also made chicken, ground beef, bacon, lamb, pork, in glass jars. For others in my family that are not strict carnivore, I made home-made and processed in glass jars, Chile con carne, ham & beans, chickpeas with chicken, baked beans, Beef Stew, Lamb Stew, Chicken stew, and also in glass jars, roast turkey and roast duck. One of my best and tastiest foods I made in glass jars is Ghee that is nothing like the kind you buy in the Supermarket. Ghee is easy to make and one it is in jars it keeps for 50 years. I did those as well as purchased canned goods such as you show in your video... Our prices here in Canada are double to triple what yours are. The cans of pink salmon here are $6.00 and Tuna is $7.00 for a tiny can. Sockeye Salmon in small cans is also about $6. to $7. per can.

@@neahsway How kind of you to remember and check up on me. I have been pretty strict Carnivore having usually two meals per day. For example half of a small roast chicken with the skin and later a 10 ounce riibeye steak with a bit of butter. My body seems to have a "set point" weight and I stay exactly on that weight every single day. I weigh myself first thing every morning before I get dressed so there is no chance of a discrepancy due to clothing or time. I have not lost anything. Today, I am hoping to get through the day without any solid food. I am just trying to keep it to my one cup of coffee with a tablespoon of butter in it today and let's see if I drop a pound overnight. If I can get through today, perhaps tomorrow I can just have water only and see day by day how that goes. I know I will lose some weight if I keep to only water.

The higher fat canned corned beef is a staple for me. Sort of a semi canned pemmican but is versatile and can add a lot to other recopies. Adding it to rubaboo (pemmican soup/stew) adds some dimension and after a long day working in the far north it was a very welcome meal indeed. It can be salty so take that into account. Like spam the corned beef can be fried but does tend to break up easily so usually ends up as corned beef crumbles in eggs. For the non carnivores adding the corned beef to instant mashed potatoes is like THE traditional campers meal.

I agree with the comment about canning our own meats. Its super simple to do. The main thing is it takes more time inside the canner. Meat to me is by far the easiest to can. I do however feel that while meat protein is good, its almost impossible for the average person to sustain this type of pantry long term unless a huge budget is available to the family. During SHTF we will eat what is available. Meat will be the first thing to clear the shelves. Instead of Spam, Walmart has their own GV brand and many people have commented it tastes better too.

    Thank you for your video.
As a doomsday prepper who just went Carnivore myself, ... look who I found!
As a full time resident in our great Gulag of Poverty, I must be resourceful to say the least.
I found three can bundles of Wild Caught Salmon for 50% off and bought all 11 bundles.
I also scored a whack of Sardines packed in Olive Oil and now I don't really trust Olive Oil.
Oh well, it sucks to be me!
You know, they can write whatever they want on those cans and "profit" has been known to turn people into liars.
Pre Carnivore and I was all about Sardines in Oil for the extra calories, but now not so much so.
I found small cans of heavy Cream, product of Holland, at a local dollar store for $3 and pick up a few every now and then.
Normally I'll wait till these "One Tine Only" items like this Cream to reach it's BBD and they sell for two for a $1 BUT! That's not until next year so I get a few just in case they sell out before then.
I so need to find a local source for that beef Gelatin.
    AND!
I really need to look at that Hamburger Jerky too. I don't really like the canned Hamburger I did. It's fine once mixed with spices or sauce, ... but I won't eat it right out of the jar like I do whole Beef or chicken or pork for that matter.
The only reason I can be a Carnivore is because I don't need to buy anything else.
For example, I was so prepped up I had an abundance of money from my monthly stipend so I bought nothing but instant Coffee and packed it away in Mylar Bags with Oxy Absorbers.
Now since I have reduced my Coffee consumption, I have enough Coffee to last me freaking YEARS!
I have so many reasons not to barter, ... But if I must, I'm using a "third party" as to not reveal my hand.
I'm a hermit and a bit of a recluse, AKA "easy target" or so stupid people would think.
Use that brown rice because it will go rancid real fast compared to white Rice.
Keep up the great work and Win/Win.

This is really good. I've always been a 'prepper' to some extent; after we switched to carnivore, I realized that I was going to have to make some major changes to my pantry, too. My kitchen is also slowly changing -- a lot of things that I used to need don't get used anymore.

May I make a suggestion? On your baggies of butter powder, take a sharpie and mark on it how much water you want to add. You may know how much, but if someone else in the family is using it, they may not know. Also, in your go bag, don't forget can opener, some measuring cups and measuring spoons.

That butter can has a shelf life of 10 years. When you open it ,the shelf life becomes9months. Moisture will be your major problem. Need to vacuum seal. Agree with others about canning. Also cooked meat can be dehydrated and vacuum seals in jars.

Very good! If I could just add a coupla things from my personal experience:
Brown rice goes rancid way faster than white rice. I keep it in the freezer. Also, Walmart has these "bricks" of white rice in the bulk section. As long as they've kept their shape (no teeny leaks) the shelf life is a lot longer than regular rice.
Regarding tuna packed in water: I discovered that most of them have vegetable broth which is one of the euphemisms for "glutamates" which have much the same effect as MSG. Some people tolerate them and some can't. I found a brand of tuna that is packed in olive oil and seems to be a better alternative for me.

You can easily make your own chicken or beef brough by yourself. Take a soup chicken / beef bones and cook it with some soup vegetables and salt and some herbs (no parsley cause that spoils too fast) and a good amount of water for some hours. Take all the chicken meat or bones out and fill it hot in hot cooked jars. Like at making jams or jellies it gets vacuuming in the jar as long as the brough and the jars and it's are really hot. You can make it only with the clear brough or with the vegetables in it. Both works fine as long as there's no meat in it. I tried it out😊and it lasts for years this way😊when there's meat in it, it spoils in a couple of days without cooling 😩but you can freeze the cooked chicken meat and use it later for some recipes 😊or you just make a chicken soup with it before putting the rest of the brough in jars😊hint: cook the chicken and the beef or pork bones at the beginning just alone, without any vegetables. This way you can easily get rid of the dirty foam to get a nicely clear brough 😊the plus is that's cheaper and you can portion it better by using the jars you want for it 😊and there is nothing in it that you don't want 😊

Spam? Yes, please! I'm in Hawaii and it's our official state food. It goes on special for about $2 per can. I also put up cases of 18 can Vienna sausage on special for $12. High fat! These prices are about the best we can get, even with Costco or Sam's. I think you are sensible and prudent. Thank you for this video and the pemmican one!
