- You generally use a super move to hit your opponent a bunch so they stop hitting you, but what if we added an extra step and your opponent has to hit you first to bring on the super move. Counter Super Moves are lesser seen in fighting games, but are satisfying when you trick your opponent into attacking when you were waiting with the punish. I’m going over the coolest looking counter moves that deliver the hype when you pull them off.

Ooh, your right! That's been a consistent thing since the Budokai games, so it's cool DighterZ brought that mechanic of his poses over to the game.
Elizabeth's 9999 Damage Marker at the end of her Insta-Kill is actually a reference to her Super-Boss Battle in Persona 3 where she fully heals herself then hits you with a Megidolaon that deaths 9999 Damage if you break one of the unwritten conditions.
The Conditions are kinda rough
. No Personas or Accessories that Block, Repel, or Absorb any damage type she is going to use be it Magical or Physical
. No Mirror items or Counter Spells (Tetrakarn/Makarakarn) can be used, although passives with a chance of repelling Physical Attacks (e.g. High Counter) are allowed
. No use of the Armageddon Spell (unless it immediately defeats her)
. The battle can't go on for more that 100 turns.
. You have to fight her alone (though this is a known condition)

Yep, rough... until someone finds a way to Counter the Megidolaon. Then _she_ is the one getting one-shot.
A little extra detail to love even more the Videl Great Saiyaman counter is the fact that Videl herself has different reactions to Gohan depending on if the counter KOs the opponent or not.
I wish you mentioned Pom from Them's Fightin' Herds. Her super counter sees her pup take a shot for her and she counters with a Raging Demon. And when you beat them, she is so happy her puppy is alright.

I would have personally put Elizabeth at number one, partially because of my bias for her (best girls) but also because of just how ridiculous it is to actually hit
Not only will she only use it in the last round
Not one does her ultimate move in this game require the opponent to trap themselves
But she is toying with you so much that, even with her COUNTER, she gives you 2 free chances to mess up

Hakumen is an Alternate timeline version of Jin that was thrown back into the past during the events of the first game and becomes an important historical figure (time loops, not even once). While his identity is never made known to (most) of the main cast, Hakumen is treated as a seperate character since he has changed a lot over the last 100 years, but has also always been an alternate timeline Jin.
12:26 The Megidolaon isnt an instant kill skill but the highest tier of Almighty type spells, the ones that do instan kill are the Hama spells for enemies weak to light and the Mudo spells for enemies weak to darkness, even though they are instant kill they have very low success rates on enemies not weak to them. But yeah. Megido, Megidola and Megidolaon are damage spells and are unblockable as nothing resists almighty type spells
While technical not an instant kill, super bosses in the SMT franchise can use it to deal 9999 if certain condition are met.
Yeah I think he meant that it is an instant kill when she uses it (because of that damage number)
@@randomcatname7792 Well when she uses it it is, she does use that to anhilite you when you battle her on persona 3 and have a persona with no elemental weaknesses or she gets to enrage
Her stats are beyond broken in that battle.
Funny thing though, Elizabeth in P4A actually did have Mahamaon and Mamudoon which were also instant kill moves. They were just as impractical as her proper instant kill but it was fun that she (and to a lesser degree Naoto) had that detail.
@@NeoMusicGamer pre-2.5 p4au Liz's combos would just instant kill you with hama, you just need to keep comboing the guy for long enough for hama to activate, now it just IK if there's 10 secs on the clock, yikes
A Counter Super is a pretty Genius Idea in a Fighting Game, but sometimes the Opponent will start to pull some Tricks on you when they will notice a Counter and will wait for you to be eventually Vulnerable.
One nitpit, it's Epitaph (the small face on KK's forehead) that would lead to his counter heavy style; since it is what sees into the future. King Krimson is just how he utilizes the info for the counter. Also he can't interact with things during the 10 seconds he erased, that's a reason why he waits so long. He normally places himself in the advantageous position Epitaph shows, and strikes when the 10th seconds is up.
True. I was trying to define it as succinctly as possible, but those would've good details to mention. Interact wasn't the best word choice in hindsight.

That Videl counter from Dragon Ball Z is awesome! I played the game for a bit with my friends and didn't even know she could do that. I gotta go back and play that game some more. 😊

Two of my favorite counter supers that weren't on the list are Setsuki's Surprise Gift in Fantasy Strike, and Sceptile's Forest Flash in Pokkén Tournament.
Setsuki's is a pretty quick little air super that shows her quickly moving her hands to block the incoming hits, then she teleports away and leaves a substitute log in her place, which can hit the opponent with a satisfying THUNK. After you use the super, Setsuki appears on the ground, and becomes invisible (thought it flickers a little to still somewhat see where she is) for you to really mix up the opponent.
Sceptile's Forest Flash starts out with a fast lunge forward as he does the classic sword slash through somebody to appear on the other side, as he saw right through whatever move you were trying to hit him with. It doesn't end there, and as Sceptile pops out the other side, he scrapes the ground with his claws to do the Akira slide and slow down in time to deal some more damage while you're stunned in place from the initial slash. At this point, Sceptile slams the ground and sends a bunch of vines through the ground after you. The vines tangle up into a ball that completely surrounds you and tightens up. Finally there's a flash of light and another big chunk of damage as the vines tighten so much, something has to give, you or the vines.
Thank you! I used to imagine characters actually slamming a counter on people as a kid when I heard "counter attack," so I've had that joke waiting for over 20 years lol. And yeah, I gotta consult with the Pokken crew for future fighting game videos since there's a lot of good content in that game that I overlook. And Fantasy Strike's one I got to check out!

Really wish I could play Skullgirls, it’s so good looking and I love the characters (I SWEAR I’M NOT WEIRD ABOUT THEM MY FAVES ARE BIG BAND AND PEACOCK) but I feel like that game is meant for people who’ve played fighting games their whole life. You’ve mentioned that SF is a good game for beginners, so when SF6 comes out I’m gonna play it and become the master of whatever character is silly and/or music based, then once I get better at fighting games I will finally get to Skullgirls

Yeah I considered getting Skullgirls at one point but I got the feeling I’d forever be saying “I SWEAR IM NOT WEIRD” whenever I brought it up.
I’d recommend Guilty Gear Strive, it’s also pretty beginner-friendly and it’s got cool, unique character designs and great style.

Not a super but in Smash 4 Shulk had a niche technique called Vision Sliding. If successful it allowed Shulk to do things like safely reposition away from the opponent, or counter a projectile to advance on the opponent.
Hell for a wacky doubles scenario you could Falcon Punch Shulk to turn him into a stronger invincible Falcon Punch that travels across the stage while being unblockable.
For Johnny Cage in MK9, his super was actually super good and popular since it was super generous with the hit box. If you were close enough when he was hit with any move like a projectile or even behind him it would trigger
I was looking back at your video about Yugioh cards being based on Konami cards and so a nice follow up to that can be Top Ten Yugioh cards based on other Media for example, in the Goe Goemon entry, you mentioned how The monsters reminds you of a Panty and Stockings transformation (I think) and remembering how the Evil/Live Twins were based on them or when you mentioned in the Tactical Espionage entry how Metal Gear doesn't have a full archetype but does have ties to Spyrals even though they lean more into James Bond more.
I love that if you kill with the Great Saiyaman counter, Gohan will still continue his pose and monologue, making the loser have to sit for an extra 5-6 seconds and question how they lost to this
One of my personal favorites is Cammy from Ultra Street Fighter 4. Her second ultra CQC Cammy Quick Combination is a counter in which she snaps your neck, arm, and leg if you dare hit her while in the stance from Second ultra.

Kakashi with Sharigan in clash of ninja 2 was cool; if you use counter on a character’s special, for most of them he will block and use the opponent’s special against them

A personal favorite is Hyena's super in KOF Maximum Impact if it can be counted as one.
Basically Hyena get hits, screen goes to black and his health bar is goes to 0 only to say "I got you" lifes goes back, he raises and kicks the opponent.
I like Counter super that also work as psudeo comand grab.

My favorite counter is Phantom breaker Omnia Artifactor final super. Its and install super that let her counter most attack, and even if she is gaurd crush.

Aldebaran from the Saint Seiya games, his attack is called "Great Horn" were he crosses his arms, and if attacked, will explode the energy back. Pretty cool!

I know it may not be in the spirit of the video but I feel B.Janet from Garou should have been on this list. She has a super (sorry I do not know it's name) that can only be inputted on a Just Defend frame. I don't remember the specifics but there is a hilarious part of it where she takes her shoe off an beats her opponent with it. Due to the Just Defend mechanic needed specific timing, I feel it is more or less a counter super lol.
Another good Counter Super Moves is that of Pom, the sheep of Them Fight Herds, you hit her puppy and she executes the Shun goku Satsu as punishment.
I wish you used KOF 15 O.Yashiro's new Climax super that's a memeable counter super 👀 either way awesome list 🫡

You forgot in Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: ALL STAR BATTLE that Funny Valentine has a counter super of his own. His Heart Heat Attack has him pulling his opponent to the ground before he and two more Valentines from alternative worlds gang up on them ending with D4C launching the opponent before a triple uppercut from all Three Valentines.
ASBR literally has Joseph's "Know Your Next Line" counter and Josuke's "What Did you say about my hair?!" Counter, which I think are better, imo
Axl's catch from ggxx is dope. He throws his bandana in your face then gores you.
One thing you forgot with Videl: The counter also drains the opponent's meter. Not only is it a nice reference to the Great Saiyaman's ultimate in the Budokai series, but it also weakens your opponent's offense since they can't access as many ever-important EX moves.

Always thought a Counter could be placed as a marker on various cards or game tiles to signify an accumulation of something relating to the game being played. Good thing it's also a nice place to set my apple juice.

I think that Fei-Long's kick to the knee is supposed to be a reference to 'Return of the Dragon', where he kicks Colt (Chuck Norris) in the side of his knee, effectively breaking it.

When it comes to Fighterz counters cooler’s level 3 is best it counters everything including other level 3 supers.Cooler even trash talks you before he destroys the planet with his signature supernova. I love cooler so it makes sense i like his super move

also megidolaon is a almighty skill that does massive almighty damage to all foes.
Honorable mention to ExDeath in Final Fantasy Dissidia series... 99% if what he does is countering basic attacks or countering... effectivly super moves

my favorite counter in FighterZ is Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta's, or did I like his Taunt more? He just stands as you get hit by 3 punches when you try to hit him, then kicks you away.
Please can you do the top ten soldiers in fighting games. I googled it and it turns out no one has thought of making this list. Which is odd considering how often this archetype appears in fighting games.
Imo Geese's counter super from KOF 2002 UM should have been here, dude removes his top then showers you with 15 rippukens that get bigger than one final big blast.
I'm surprised Goro was picked over Geese. No shade to Goro, but when I think of counters in KoF Geese is the first that comes to mind.
From my experince its only in Kof14/15 did geese get counter supers. He had counte rmoves since day one but not supers
My favorite one is from Kasumi, since KoF 99 (in her appearance in KoF 96 she does not have the move). I always (since the game was released) like to play with her, because her moves are all about countering. It's not flashy, but there are few things as satisfying as making it to counter an opponent's own super move.
Geese gets one at KoF XIV too, and he also has regular counter moves such as Kasumi, but he's a zoner too, which I don't like (still, I'm a fan from the character, just don't like zoning much).
I wish you went K' instead of Goro. The "You're doomed, totally doomed" is my favorite counter in KoF, hands down.

Megidolaon isn't an instant kill attack in the games, its an almighty attack that has no resistances (allegedly), the insta kill moves are hama and mudo variants.
she has Thanatos because of a persona 3 ending spoiler which i won't explain for obvious reasons (Persona 3 Reload hype!)

hakumen counter could be faster? it's a 1 frame special counter from all physical attacks with a motion who benefits guard since is down up you can be under pression on downback guard just press up and win a matxh

20:01 - That was ... almost Hakumen's backstory, but I'll forgive you since BlazBlue has some of the most confusing lore in all of fiction.
Blazblue is usually the hardest of the big-name fighting games to pin down the story on, so I usually try to give a disclaimer that it's a really general overview and there's a whole lot of twists and turns I could cover. But in the end, we can all at least appreciate the shiny colors of the series

Out of all the Super Moves seen in Fighting Games, Counters Supers have always been my least favorite. Whenever I think of a Super Move, I always think of a powerful that either acts as the finishers in an overly complicated string of combos, or an attack that does a lot of damage that can be pulled off at any time, so long as you have enough meter to perform said Super.
Jin is Hakumen, that only changes when Terumi reclaims the Susano'o unit and becomes his original self again.

Glad BlazBlue made it on top. Tho I'm sad Saber's Avalon in Melty Blood Type Lumina didn't get a mention. It's one of the best counters in FGs. You can't hit, shoot or throw it. If it gets touched, you go into a cinematic scene where there she blasts you with her Excalibur
