Honestly I got hired right after my internship and man I didn’t know it was gonna be this stressful. School was a breeze but reality hit me hard in the face. I had my first nervous breakdown yesterday.
7years as a Dental Assistant... let me tell you up to this day i learn something new everyday.. patience patience patience with people its my best advice. Be friends with the Dr. It will make your job 100 x easier 👌.. Have fun and smileeee 😁
My job was extremely stressful at first and tbh I hated it. I was actively putting in new applications at offices everywhere. But I stuck it out & I am now 7 months in and i love my work family. We've gotten very close and to see how far I've come from not knowing what I was doing to now, it's a great feeling!
It’s my second week too 😭 !! And it’s stressful because I want to know everything already but the hygienist I work with she tells me just be gentle to myself so hopefully I get it by 4 more weeks . Specially because my program was 5 weeks of school it’s was a fast pace hope goes well I am scared lol
I feel you xD you sound very persistent so I have faith that you get the hang of it pretty fast !! 🤗 It’s great that you have a good support system in your office ^.^
Just started my first day on Friday and it was pretty hectic, it was a short day but I got to learn and shadow and set up and break down the room and I felt like it got me prepared for next Friday. This week will also be my first full week working there so I’m excited to see what’s to come and what to learn.
I am so nervous to start Dental Assisting. I am halfway through DA school (9 month program), its all online and I feel like I am not learning and retaining as much information as I should. I am more of a hands on learner.
Awe, don’t worry. My school only let us practice once BARLEY for a couple of things. I agree hands on learning is the best type of learning for this field BUT even though we didn’t do alot of hands on, I still managed to do good and you do most of your learning in internships or on the job! I have faith you’ll succeed in your future jobs 🙌🏽🙌🏽 goodluck 💕
This was very helpful 🥰I’ve been working in the dental field for about a year and I didn’t go to school, just started off as a temp helper and worked my way up :) Some offices are willing to train you with no experience and just a high school diploma
Thank you for posting and sharing your honest experience. I'm finishing up my program this summer and have an externship coming up afterwards. Kind of nervous, so this definitely helps and is very comforting
Hi Melanie. I've been working at an office for about a month now and I've been cross training for front office and the back. They gave me a review today and said that if I can't become faster and more efficient then I can't work there anymore. This really upset me and made me feel inadequate as an assistant. This is my first every job in the field and I just finished school. I feel unappreciated and pressured. One of the doctors calls me when I'm at home, calls and texts on my days off, and begs me to come in when I have had an emergency such as car trouble. She says I'm too slow, but I've been trying the best that I can. I don't want to give up but I'm feeling very defeated. Should I find a new office to work for? Thanks
100 percent find another office if you can! One of the dentists I work with would always tell me that I had to do stuff differently if I wanted to make it in the field. And I would always be discouraged too. But honestly, your situation sounds TOXIC. Your days off are your days off, find yourself an office that will respect that. Also you are JUST learning, it’s okay to be slow. I used to be slow too, but you’ll get faster as you get more experience. They need to understand that and remember how it was when they were first starting :/. I pray everything goes well with you 😓💕
I just had this happen to me this week and I’m working on finding another office myself. In the meantime I’m watching TH-cam videos to learn and do side jobs in between interviewing the right office.
Whew, day 4 for me and I just felt like I was in the way...ALL DAY! The head DA disagreed. 😭 this is truly my passion. I can not WAIT til I'm able to read the Dentist's mind 😏🥰 btw GREAT VIDEO
Omg I hope you do well! But don’t worry, everyone feels nervous ( I think ) just tell yourself that you are allowed to make mistakes! That will relieve so much pressure. Also remember to just document everything so if you make mistakes now, you will correct them next time!! Praying for the best for you 💕
I've been an assistant since 1992 and you are so right this exactly I mean exactly how I started. Hello from Houston😊but the COWHORN AND 23 ARE THE SAME THING. THE NICKNAME FOR THE 23 IS COWHORN BECAUSE of THE SHAPE.
Lol the #23 forcep is the cowhorn (sorry just had to say that) but yes 22yr vet DA here and the job is super stressful but once you get to know your doctor and the way they do things it gets slightly easier... Ish
@Leslie Lemusosorio so it ended up being just a regular sit down interview which went pretty smooth & now they moved the working interview to this Monday 😭😭
This is my 3rd month dental assistanting with zero experience and I still feel like I need to learn a lot 😆😆....but I do feel more confident in my job than before . Are you looking to be a dentist ?
Hey, it’s been over 5 years for me. I’m so nervous to go back but I am in the process of getting back in. What did your resume look like for that 3 year gap?
Okay im going to start my 2nd year in college but I'm thinking of making a change hopefully idk yet I'm looking for info but this video was helpful so thank you
I didnt go to school. But got hired after pandemic and learning off the cuff. Going well but our new dentist doesnt care for my assisting. Since I'm not experienced.
Well they knew you were new when they hired you, so the dentist will just have to deal with it. Everyone has to start off one way or another. Praying for you ❤️
That’s good to be informed before making a decision :3 and if you ever pick something you don’tend up liking, you can always just do something else in the future :D good luck!!
I just use my phone xD I use the app called Vlog Star :) but I bought the full version cuz it has more stuff. And I hope I can do another say in the life soon, but with the corona stuff going on, they are cracking down on us using our phones :/ and wow how exciting!! XD
Y’all I had to do school during covid no good hands on training at school and then we could only do our internship at a teaching hospital where the residents did a lot of the charting and hands on stuff 😅
is it possible to record procedures with an audio recorder so you don't have to take notes on every single detail? I feel like it would be pretty hard to take notes on the fly.
@@yasmen2613 depends on what state you live in? There are usually fast track programs for 6-12 weeks or there are schools that are up to 1 year. I went to a school for 1 year and I’m currently on week 3 of my externship and I love it so far !

In my office, we tell them the most important things are, DON’T SPIT, SUCK THROUGH A STRAW, SMOKE (because they can all cause dry socket) we also tell them to dampen some gauze and put it on the empty sockets and bite down to control the bleeding. We tell them if they swell up to put something cold like an ice pck or frozen peas on the area. And we tell them to stick with soft cold foods for now. My externship was for 8 months ONLY becauseI got hired there. But usually some of the other girl’s were like for a month or so
What are the post op instructions for extraction /wisdom teeth 🦷?
In my office, we tell them the most important things are, DON’T SPIT, SUCK THROUGH A STRAW, SMOKE (because they can all cause dry socket) we also tell them to dampen some gauze and put it on the empty sockets and bite down to control the bleeding. Hey I have a couple questions I’m 21 I dropped out of high school I regret it I wanna go and get my GED can I still apply for dental assistant with a GED or no ? Second question how long it takes to take classes 3rd question after being a dental assistant can u become a dental doctor or no ? My goal is to be a dental assistant and then become a dental doctor
In order to do either, you need at least a GED. My program was 9 months but that was 10 years ago. Good luck. You can do it.
I’m so stressed right now, I’m looking into dental assistance or hygiene

I love watching your videos. I would love to know more about dental assistance. I’m thinking of dental assistant school but I heard there’s a lot of scam school so I’m scare to apply for any dental assistant school.
