My hygienist vapes and I honestly wouldn’t care is she smoked real cigarettes! A girl in my DA class has bad posterior teeth and she still got a job 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’ve seen dentists with not so beautiful teeth and office staff with bad botched jobs w veneers or with not so pretty dark teeth and they’re working in offices.

My sister went to a doctor who never said anything about her smoking and upon leaving the hospital grounds she sees that doctor smoking, some health professionals do smoke. at least he wasn't a hypocrite telling her how bad smoking was, when he smoked too.

    • @dentalelle

Bel Mum I agree, it does happen. I do know a lot of nurses and doctors smoke (interesting?) but dental professionals it seems very rare.

I am 3 weeks into my extern and I need to hear that it’s going to get better. I feel like I already want to give up. I’m mentally drained everyday. It’s like when I get in the chair next to the doctor everything leaves my brain and I make sooo many dumb small mistakes then I freak out and mess up even more. Is this normal or am I just doing really bad? Also on top of all that I’m a extrovert so im still shy around the office so that makes things even weirder. Neeed help/advice and stories to make me feel better. Thanks.
Also if anyone has a tip, I also can’t find my comfortable “sitting position” in the chair so any advice on thah would be appreciated.

This video made me feel so good lol Im a brand new grad, only 5 months into my first job and I was so worried that I was asking too many questions and stuff like that, but I now feel much better. The only questions I tend to ask are more along the lines of where things are in the office and what exactly the dentists like/want me to do (how to let them know I’m ready for an exam, if they want me to have the patient sitting or laying back when they come in for an exam)

I agree with what you said but maybe in your next video you might also want to add, some doctors do not like you to show 5, 10, 15 min early. The reason being is they don't want you to go over 8 hours. So you clock in at 8:00 and you clock out at 5:00 no time and a half

When you say don’t have bad teeth, do you mean like they have to be perfect?
I never had braces, my top teeth are straight but my bottom teeth are crooked. I also have an enamel deficiency(runs in the family, yay!😥) so my teeth are not stark white like yours. (You have beautiful teeth by the way!).
Will they not want to hire me because my teeth aren’t super white and super straight?
I am starting dental hygiene school next year and I am nervous about my dental health. I brush twice a day, I use prescription Prevident toothpaste at night, I floss, I use the Philips Sonicare toothbrush... I see the dentist every 6 months. I keep up on my dental health, but my genes suck! I have cavities from high school too. I haven’t gotten another one since 2013 though!

I am a DA and all of my coworkers have at least 7 years of experience, a few weeks ago I helped my dentist do some fillings on one of my coworkers, she had nice white teeth but still she had a few interproximal cavities and her bottom teeth were a bit crooked, which I had never noticed before. You don´t have to have a perfect smile to work in the dental field, I think everyone has some form of oral problem, just that some people have more than others.

ONLY if you had someone reliable to guarantee they will be able to care for sick kiddos ESPECIALLY when working for a small office...to call in a temp not only costs the practice a different salary, but ALSO a daily placement fee. 💁🏻‍♀️If working in a rather large office with different specialties where there are 2-3+ dentists, a few hygienists, and a dozen assistants, you might find this larger dental practice more forgiving because they have the manpower to cover the holes in staffing for the unexpected need for time off. ☝🏻The last office I worked in, there were 4 of us...dentist, hygienist, assistant, and receptionist where it was the unspoken rule that you took your time off/vacation when the dentist to vacation 🤷🏻‍♀️

I am really scared I might have gum disease, I just don't know what stage its in I guess we will find out, I really don't want to lose my teeth. * The dentist said to me its not to late to start caring for my teeth, we might be able to save them.(even for a bit longer)

I tell all of my patients that are embarrassed by their teeth that they are in a no judgement zone. I tell them many things like " hey life happens" or I understand " mama's put their kid's first" or some may have been drug addicts and say "I got clean 2 years ago" "I ruined my teeth" I will tell them "congratulations I am happy for you" People want to not feel judged. I am not their judge and jury... I am there to help them get healthy. My judgement zone comes out when parents neglect their kid's dental health. Pisses me off.
