Completely agree about the Traxxas electronics. I'm a castle snob lol. This was the first thing I was doing if I get a sledge was take the stock electronics out. Well that and a new motor mount set-up too as well as a hardened spur.
Nice Truck. I sold my. Because for me the Car is a Bottomless Pit. For 800 Euros here in Germany, Traxxas must do a better Job. I like my Maxx. No issues with my Maxx. I hope Traxxas do a V2 from the Sledge. That hold up a little bit better out of the box. But nice Video. All the best from Germany
I hated mine till aftermarket caught up. Currently with the m2c chassis, motor mount, hinge pins. As well as basherqueen towers, hot racing extensions for the 6s backflips, a max 6 esc, and geared up a bit -- it is my favorite basher. Money pit yes, but after I went total beef cake I can't deny that I do love the car. Just sucks that I have less in my 8s exb trucks than this lol
Loving the info just brought a sledge and loving after it first run but am looking at videos to see what to keep an eye out for. And what to possible upgrade. So thanks for the video. 👍
I've got about 25 6S sessions on my Sledge and the only thing I've broken is the rear outer control arm pin...twice. I drilled it out and installed a 4mm hardened bolt (on both sides) and haven't had a problem since. I'm either lucky or don't bash as hard as some. Whatever the case may be, I'm having a ton of fun with the truck and don't plan to upgrade anything until it breaks as I'd like to get as much out of the $800 purchase price as I can.
Personally I love my sledge,I’m really new to the RC world but already I find I have just as much fun tearing it apart and upgrading parts as I do playing with it. I’ve only had a wire get chewed up so far. I just bought a second one yesterday since it’s $100 cheaper.Ordered a ton of aftermarket parts aswell.
Thanks for the update…. I really wish you the best of luck. I really have my doubts about the trucks durability but I really hope to be proved wrong. I’m sorry you have had to put so much into the truck.
Jason, don’t worry about if people think your just bashing on the sledge. We can tell by your videos you are not. Further more, when that truck first came out, I could tell immediately without purchasing , that it was hot garbage, before I even saw it, and once seeing it at the hobby shop, that was confirmed. I refuse to buy a Traxxas product, I will build one from scratch, using every upgraded part I can. My example is the Maxx 1/10. First run, tires blew, second run esc blew, third run, motor blew, forth run, cracked the front bulkhead, fifth run, the truck caught on fire. I wish I were joking but I am not. And all this said, this is one of Traxxas’s vehicles that they specialize in building, meaning their plastic chassis and everything else they do. They built this thing like an Arrma, which is something they don’t do, so I expected it to be that much worse.
Do you think if you left it stock you have any issues, I think Traxxas only test and build around the power they supply I know out ofyy collection mostly arrmas , the kraton by far self destructs the fastest. It's arrma pushing those parts to limit compared to rest Mostly bc it's the widest with most rotation mass .
I remember when it was released, the justification for the high price of the Sledge in Traxxas’s own marketing material was that it wouldn’t need upgrades. That hasn’t aged well.
Whats up man! Love your videos and all the knowledge you have put out there for RC's. I ordered the castle 1515 2200KV setup and its supposed to be in today. Do you have any recommendations on the install or other components that are a must to change out after doing the swap? Thanks again man and hope to hear from you soon!
The thing is, it may have broke, but the actual diffs are pretty big. Bearings too! With arrma, I mean look at the diffs and bearings 💀 5x11x4 bearing that support the input shaft ( pinion ) geometry is off for me to when the suspension compress the driveshafts wants to pop out, sometimes it eats the cup ... the " safe D " cups tolerances are soo off when you actually tighten the set screw everything wobble so badly it destroys the 5x11 bearing even more... I miss the good old days with Monster Gt and LST, now its just truggy I found them less exciting to drive. Hey love the channel by the way just my opinion 😉
Hey man off topic but you’ve made a lot of videos about the outcast v2 and I just picked one up and it’s durable as hell but the steering seems really weak. Just wondering if you felt the same. Thanks. Love all your content
Steering isn't the greatest. But you will notice that when you are off the throttle it turns a lot better. As soon as you give those trucks any throttle, the weight transfer to the rear. Making it harder to turn.
I wished you good luck (no sarcasm) when you brought this onto your channel. It's a shame you had to spend soo much on the truck but maybe you got enough views to make it worthwhile?
That orange and blue looks good you're representing my Florida Gators

I like a lot of Traxxas vehicles but a $800 truck should come with machined steel ring/pinion gears in all the diffs.

Nice man. I hope now it is a quality truck for you
Do you think Traxxas new ring gear was no good that’s why they made the option ring gear other brands don’t do that for ring gear?
Sadly yes.
Will you do other videos on the xmaxx ?
Yes. Just been enjoying the 1/8 and 1/7 scales lately.
What ESC is that?

It's been working awesome.
