  • Finally got around to taking the SX250 into the woods to give a proper shake down before getting it back to my friend...and I'm glad the failure happened to me and not him!

    I had the purple looking one sx 250 back in 1975 … I loved that thing… I wish I could go back to those days…

    The "best" when you push a broken bike is when it has drum brakes because disk brake will always induce friction that
    hurt you more when pushing.
    I experienced this whith my Ducati singles and Yamaha SR 500 with both drum brakes front and rear.
    Of course I say this with humour and your Harley is really a very nice bike.

      lol thanks! Luckily this was a title two stroke enduro Harley and not a big sportster or fat boy! 😆

    Despite the drama that is an awesome Survivor bike you could easily clean up and enjoy 😊. Vintage bikes are so cool I hope this one gets the proper care.

      I agree. It’s a quirky but cool bike. My buddy has it back (it’s actually his) and it lives in his garage now instead of outside. Doesn’t get to ride it much though.

      @@Garage2Trail I'm old ha ha , but back in the day (late 70's) I rode a basically new SX175 it was quirky then always an issue I still enjoyed that bike !

      @chriscraft4236 I read a lot about how they were slapping random parts on those things from the dealers and so many had slight variations depending on what handlebars went in and controls. I’m still amazed how many NOS parts in boxes are still out there for them too!

    Great to see it out on the trail .👍 running better the second time out just a wee bit more crisp and it will be as perfect as you can expect .! But from the way you got it it's night and day mate great job .👍 last bike I pushed was an old 1980 xj 650 felt it splutter reached down to put it into reserve !!!! You guessed it already in it 😁😁 pushing is no fun .👍

      Thanks Wattie! I think with a fresh needle and seat will cure the blubbering but she does run as good as it’s ever since I’ve had it. I’ll be dropping it off at my friend’s (the owner) this week. I’m just glad it broke on me and not him!

    I insulated the oil lines to the oil pump and put oil directly into the fuel in the tank. 25ml oil/1liter gas.

    • @Garage2Trail
      @Garage2Trail  ปีที่แล้ว

      I am currently just running premix as well. Did verify the pump is working but I’m always hesitant to rely just on that. Thanks for the heads up!

      @@Garage2Trail I never rely on the pump, I isolate each two stroke motor and add mixture.

    What ratio are you running gas: 2 stroke oil for the pre-mix fuel from the tank?

    • @Garage2Trail
      @Garage2Trail  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I was running 50:1 premix from the tank. The oil injection was hooked up but at the time wasn’t bled so I just ran the premix in the tank to make sure it was ok

    AMF runs best when the key is on the off pisition , you should put it in a museum ( not a motorcycle museum a house of pain museum).

    Sir this bike appears to be a hooptey i throughley understand why it failed and please do not try to blame it on a bad design by AMF this bike is also approacing its 50s. So idk what you expected but you were mistaken and this all could of been solved by buying a better throttle cable

      Oh I know she’s far from a prime example and if you saw the condition it was in when I first started, it’s come a very long way. It’s still a quirky bike regardless but in a good way.

    • @Garage2Trail
      @Garage2Trail  ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely. This thing still has some rock hard tires that are probably from the 70s too. I’ve got it running pretty smooth it’s just a couple wear items that would need attention for ride quality like shocks and tires.

      Goodfella amf did not design the Sprints they are Aeromacchi and quite nicely designed the Italian 1970s machines were as pretty as the 2020s but unlike my modern Beta the metals were not the best I owned several sprints the biggest problem is no support then and now and that was amfs fault ditto say

    Curious if you want to sell it. I'm restoring my fathers but parts are so hard to find. Mine is maroon color. Check the main jet. They had a rubber tip that would get hard or break off. Mine is 1204 original miles. I enjoyed the video!!

    • @Garage2Trail
      @Garage2Trail  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks! I’ll let my bud know to double check that oring. I did replace it with the rebuild kit but it may be faulty. I don’t believe my bud plans on selling it. There is a guy local to Pittsburgh that got him all the parts he needed for it. The guy has a bunch of NOS parts for AMFs of this era. I think this is his eBay store:

      @@Garage2Trail I got to thinking and I may have misspoke. I think it is the float valve that has the rubber tip that gets hard and breaks off. It's been a while so my memory is a bit foggy. Thanks for the link. I will be looking into that!
