    Very helpful. Tight clean connections on AC heating components are necessary, and otherwise they arc and make black melted wires and connectors. I think this applies to all heating appliances like toasters, water boiler pots, etc. Thanks for making this video, great job.

    Please, find the main circuit breaker panel and turn the RANGE breaker OFF - FIRST. It will be a double breaker, usually 30 amp, maybe 40. In any case, turn it off first. Then unplug the range. Please. Thank you.

      @fixitjohn  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Neil, That is good advice. In my case it is a 50 amp breaker. Thanks for watching,.

    • @coltsmavs74
      @coltsmavs74 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@patcornwell9298 You ALWAYS want to turn off the breaker at the panel before unplugging appliances. That way if something is wrong in the plug or receptacle, you are at no risk.

    Thank You! Super helpful. I like it when stuff doesn't go exactly as planned and we get to learn real-world fixes.
    I have a dumb question: My oven is 30 years+ old, it is a "Regency VSA", made in Australia. It is an electric double wall oven 24 inch. It does not heat anymore. The broiler died then 5 years later the oven. I suspect the "elements" have failed but have not tested yet, but I am unable to find anyone that sells parts for my oven. It is otherwise a great oven and my wife loves it. Here is the dumb question: Are the elements flexible enough that if I found an element that was close could I bend-it-to-shape to match or nearly match my original element? I want to save this great oven. Thank you!

    • @fixitjohn
      @fixitjohn  ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a good question. I would try it out on the older elements first. Those older appliances are great because they don't have all the electronics on them.

    Took an resistance and connected to 220v why it isn't glowing as it would on the oven, know why? Trying to built a cocktop to my shed... it heats but not much as normally would. Also didn't saw any capacitor on the oven I scraped it from... any clue?

    • @fixitjohn
      @fixitjohn  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I really don’t know. Do you have it wired through a circuit board. Maybe the circuit board is not working properly. Good luck on your cooktop. I hope it works out for you it sounds like a good idea. Thanks for watching. I had one that lightning had struck and burned the element in two replaced it and come to find out part of the circuit board got fried.

    I just needed the part about how to take the plugs on and off to remove and replace the element. That wasn't shown. Others screw on, but mine doesn't so I'll need to know this.

    how many ohms should the round element have? The seller told me 56ohms is normal and no continuity

    • @fixitjohn
      @fixitjohn  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Web Bee , the ohms will vary on different products but with no continuity that would mean it was a bad element. I hope that helps

    The main problem is is you need a insulators running on those wires The brighter insulator running on them if you're going to keep them together white tying them otherwise

    Glad that they use fiberglass insulation and such that would have come close to burning your house down, idk but id also worry about the wires to the circuit breaker panel as the excess resistance from poor connection could have heated the wires

    • @fixitjohn
      @fixitjohn  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You are right, those wires are fine. Stay tuned that oven is long gone. I have a kitchen remodel video coming one of these days. Thanks for watching.

    My oven element is a little long and hits the back plate that hides the wires and then throws the breaker. I can not locate any elements that have the slight bend that hooks to the wires.

    Wrong terminal end. Must use a high temperature flag end. It had those kind of ends on the element for a reason.

    @11:00 No. If you have "0 ohms resistance" it's NOT "open loop". "OL" is not "zero ohms". It is exactly "open loop".

    zero resistance with an ideal voltage source would result in infinity current flow. Infinite resistance is an open circuit with no current flow.

    Those are automotive spade connectors and not rated for electric ranges, they do make high temperature connectors for ranges, I think they are stainless steel, when you stripped the wire if you noticed the wire was stainless steel high temp, they are readily available at most appliances stores they are not very expensive 😏
