Rick's Tips for Replacing an Oven Heating Element!!

  • Greetings! As some of you may have heard, the heating element on our oven went kaput two days before Thanksgiving! We found a local appliance repair parts and service that carried the part and by luck had it in stock. Rick was able to replace the element by himself, saving labor costs and a wait of over a week.
    The part cost us just over $50.00 which is about 10 percent of the cost of a new stove of a similar make and model. We can't afford $500 for a new stove, but we could afford the element. Here is how Rick switched out the bad element for the new one.
    DISCLAIMER: When doing any home repair, make sure you take all necessary safety precautions. If you have no basic knowledge of tools, repairs, or electricity, you should not undertake this repair yourself without first consulting someone who knows how these things work!!! You do this at your own risk and we assume no responsibility for any injury or damage that may result. Unfortunately we have to make this disclaimer.
    Rick understands how to do this and he was able to fix the oven with little effort. He also took the time to use a putty knife on the bottom of the oven compartment and then vacuum out all the debris that was left behind. This will make it even easier to clean my oven once I go to do that, which will be soon.
    We hope that this video is helpful to you if you ever need to do this for yourself.
    Happy Fixing!

    I was actually glad your oven was dirty. Us normal people can identify. Usually in a video like this the oven would be spotless, not real world. Thanks, very informative.

    Noreen your husband Rick reminds me of my husband. Anytime I have some kind of problem with anything around the house he jumps right in there and finds someway of fixing it. He is my hero and Rick looks like your hero.

    Wow! I'm impressed a man that thinks like a woman. Never even heard of a man that would take the extra precaution, or even realize he might lose something he's working on. And fix it so that don't happen, just like women do. Either you or his mother raised him well. He's a keeper! You are so blessed. Thanks for the great video, you guys are awesome!!!

    I just got a new oven, dishwasher and refrigerator delivered from Sears today. I sure hope my new appliances last as long as my old set did. I had gotten used to lighting everything with a match for so long that having fire at a click of a switch seems amazing! lol

    I like to remove the oven door when doing repairs inside the oven. The very first time I was "being handy" I succeeded in leaning on the door and breaking the hinges. The element repair was not nearly as costly as fixing the door......loved the idea for clamps on the wires much better than the duct tape I used.

      I have always done the same when cleaning the oven, makes it so much easier. I found that if you use Dawn Power Dissolver spray and spread around with your fingers then let it sit over night all that brown crud will come off the oven door etc easily. It works great on the drip pans of burners too with a little Soft Scrub. Get into a routine of once a week or so and your pans stay fairly new looking without all the crud.

      KissHope there is a product called Bar Keeper's Friend - It is a powder that can be used on any surface - I use it on the inside and outside of my gas stove. I will give the Dawn product a try.

    • @KissHope
      @KissHope 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lyn Llinse I have used Bar Keeper's Friend and Bon Ami both great products. The Dawn spray somehow cuts through even old baked on gunk that's why I love it. Also of course great for tough to clean pots/pans after dinner, let sit for at least 30 mins. Lastly if you are like me and only remember to clean the top of your range hood and fridge every few months, Dawn melts that greasy film away in mins. It can be hard to find at grocery but Walmart usually has.

    Here's a great business for your family: "Rent-A-Rick". I would be terrified but now at least can try to fix this problem. As for your oven being a mess Noreen, you cook and bake 10 times as much as many other people - I wouldn't want to eat food from someone whose oven is always sparkling. Too suspicious!
