    The Long distance motorcycle and the art of staying in the saddle longer. I give you my tips and my motorcycle modifications I made that allow me to stay in the saddle up to and beyond 1000 miles per days, day after day. If you decided you want to tackle the Iron Butt Association saddle sore 1000 or ride your motorcycle coast to coast and need some advice, you have come to the right place. You don't need the latest greatest motorbike, you don't need the latest farkles, but what you do need is a little inspiration to go out and take that ride you've been dreaming of. I show you the mods i've made, and give you tips to making your motorcycle more long distance worthy.

    I ordered a custom Corbin King & Queen Saddle with rider backrest to my bike after riding from LA to Las Vegas & back on the stock seat left me in bed for 2 days.
    That seat made life worth living. I could ride all day and feel better after I got off than when I'd got on!

    On my eight trip out of Montana to Washington for Memorial and Rolling Thunder, I installed a windshield on my 65 Panhead Electra Glide. WOW! I had energy at the end of the day since I wasn't fighting the wind. I've owned and traveled on five speed Ultras and now I enjoy my long trips on my 06 Honda Goldwing. I do not count the number of Iron Butt runs I've made, I know I've done them and most I regret pushing through. The scenery, stops at historic places and people I left conversations with for the mileage no longer seem worth it. Why are we doing 1,000 miles in a day? Only for emergencies in the family or funerals of old friends across the country now a days. Stay safe out there. You all are in my prayers hoping you don't miss this great country or safety for miles and "bragging" rights.
    Hoka Hey

      we rarely do 1k mile days... and it's only to see whats on the other side because it take longer to get there. u have to stop and smell the roses or what was the point? I suppose all situations are different. but we do prefer not to be in a hurry. but many POI's do keep us on the move. thanks for watching!

    Great video I agree with everything you said the only issue I have with bigger bikes they are more like cars than a motorcycle. I never rode a bike like that so I shouldn't judge but everyone has there flavor. Take care!

    I totally stole your straw idea for our recent trip to Milwaukee and my lord was that easier than trying to pick that tumbler up while going down the turnpike. Great video I got some other ideas from it as well

    I'm 61 and can easily do 800+ miles, and have done so too many times to count on my old 02 Electra Glide but it's setup perfectly for me. I haven't used a CB in years but I am also not very happy or impressed with communicating with other riders via SENA mesh or Bluetooth, so I rarely bother with it. I may reconsider a CB based on your thoughts

    • @TwoBlueFRED
      @TwoBlueFRED  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      not so easy without a factory option... but i still like using CB

    Awesome.
    Reliability is my number one, probably followed by several tied for number two.
    I know you would be an awesome point rally type rider if you ever get the desire to try.

    • @TwoBlueFRED
      @TwoBlueFRED  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      on a scale of 10. I wouldn't take a 3 or 4 on reliability to have more comfort. but i can see taking a 8 over a 9 in reliability to have better comfort. Would you add anything else to these talking points? I know your in the game pretty strong.

    You didn't mention hard-soft-shallow-deep? seats. I'd love to hear a word on seats.

    Good video. I have an 09 SG and I do long trips, I would love to buy a 7.5 gallon or 8 gallon tank. Does anyone know if they are out there? We should not have to pull over every 200 miles. Harley needs to address the distance on a tank of gas and offer a larger capacity tank.

    • @TwoBlueFRED
      @TwoBlueFRED  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've seen the iron butt guys do it harleys...attaches over rear seat.. never seen larger replacement tanks tho

  • @calvinrobol5797

    Biggest issue I have is the seat.. after 200 miles I'm usually toast, but v I'm reluctant to just buy a new seat based on comments, because if it doesn't work for me I probably can't return it. I tried buying a pad, but it felt like I was going to fall off the bike. All the other issues are minor outside of the butt pain.

      I’ve use Google Maps on my trip from Indiana to Connecticut, south to N.C. Then back to Indiana. For years I wanted to get Garmin but couldn’t for a while because of high price point. As years went by, I saw that a lot of people were using Google Maps because not only it was at ur fingertips, it was so simple and Google Maps always updated their software, apps. U don’t have to worry about downloading any new map information onto ur device. The best part that I really enjoyed my Google Maps, in the options, I choose "No Highways", so it took me on all backroads. Fucking love it! Btw, I brought a fast charging cellphone holder before my trip with the understanding that I will be using my cellphone all day. And I also brought an Sena headset so I have it Bluetooth to my cellphone so if anyone calls me, I can choose who to accept which call to take or not. In case of any call about my 95yo mother……🙂

    Mod number 1. Beers shouldn’t come close to motorcycles. Unfortunately you will not kill just yourself, but also other conscious people that don’t drink and drive.

  • @ericdunlap1924

    No offense but you kinda screw up your creditably when you used Harley and reliability in the same sentence. According to Consumer Report Harley have a 26% failure rate within 5 years compared to 11% for the industry leading Yamaha motorcycles. Just sayin.

    Just wondering, why is your video so pieced together, sometimes word by word, every second? I had to stop watching just after 1 minute. Sorry.
