A predator and an alien engage in a vicious fight.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, Alien vs. Predator follows billionaire Charles Bishop Weyland (Lance Henriksen) and his team of drillers, scientists, and archaeologists, to an obscure pyramid site in Antarctica. Among the icy ruins, allegedly, lies the proof of an empire predating humankind. Once there, however, the group finds more than ancient sarcophaguses and hieroglyphics; rather, their discovery consists of dismembered human skeletons and fossilized remains of the alien creatures that appear to have violently burst out of their chests. Even more horrifying is the evidence suggesting that the aliens may still exist. Indeed, there are aliens below the pyramids, but an equal threat looms above: three Predators, all on the verge of manhood, are engaged in a gruesome rite of passage -- every hundred years, young Predators must travel to Earth and take on a hunting ritual in order to complete the transition to adulthood or die in the process. Before long, the humans find themselves battling for their own lives as the Predators and aliens continue their fight for superiority. The film also features Sanaa Lathan, Raoul Bova, Ewen Bremmer, Colin Salmon, and Agathe de la Boulaye.

I don't think the third one (the one that died at the end) was a teenager. The first two were definitely young bloods though.
Tetriz Demon scar was the youngest (last one to die) and Celtic was the oldest (first one to die). Maybe scar was younger than a teen, perhaps preteen. But they were all teens.

Celtic had at least 5 chances to kill Grid and he missed them all. Overconfidence and stupidity became his downfall. Alongside Specimen 6 (AVP 2010) Grid is the luckiest alien in the world.

I've watched a couple predator films and also a couple alien ones when I was growing up so I'm not too savvy on them. I may sound silly asking but watching these clips I've noticed in the comments people addressing each predator and alien by actual names. May I ask how these names are found out as I don't remember ever learning about them.

Technically he *did* if you look at 1:10. It's just this temple has *hiding places* that can cloak them since according to the movie developers this place is the Aliens' *home*, so naturally their environment would protect them even with the tech-advanced Predators. Can't make it too easy for the young Predators.
The only explanation why predators in this movie were lame is because they were young.

i used to think this movie was amazing when it first came out, and it made me sad to see it hasn't held up well to critics. i still love it, and others thinking it's not that great or deep doesn't deter me from loving it.

I have gone my entire life saying this was my favorite out of the franchise. That will never change i love this movie
I hate to be that guy, but the critics were right. Alien (1979) and Aliens (1986) are masterpieces in their genre, and Predator (1987) is a classic action movie. So, AVP came in with high expectations and did not live up to them. AVP is missing the suspense of the films which preceded it, and the main reason for that is the human characters are cannon fodder and instantly forgettable. We are not invested in their survival, which begs the question why even have human characters in the first place. AVP does have some good moments: seeing a xenomorph finally locking horns with a predator, Scar being the most likeable predator, and the end action sequence.

Love how The "hero" alien got his look, with his acid blood burning thru the razor wire net to give him that grid pattern so he stands apart from the other warrior Xenos, very cool idea that goes back to Predator 2 where the city Hunter nets a dude and this movie one ups that scene as the Xenos have a unique way to escape being trapped like that, Good Stuff, Very Cool Indeed!

I honestly don't know why people hate this movie so much. Yeah, it wasn't the most intelligent story ever told, but I came to the theater expecting Predators and Aliens beating the living shit out of each other and that's EXACTLY what I got. Besides, it's at least better than the last two Alien movies.

Really awesome first encounter for both species, it makes sense that the Alien won because at first glance most would assume a Xenomorph is just a bug for the Predator but this proves how mighty and dangerous the Xenomorph species is.

Underrated films - Predator for the win all day everyday. These Yautja were young bloods who have never fought a Xenomorph. Hence why they seemed a bit easy to kill. Wolf from AVP:R would Wreck.
The Yautja are so much cooler, they have alot of complexity behind them. The xenomorphs are nothing but animals.
Aw, I think it's a bit unfair to say they're nothing but animals. They're nowhere near as advanced as Yautja, but they still have intelligence and a basic society. They're not completely feral, especially the Queens.
I've always liked Xenomorphs a lot more, but I agree that the more experienced Predators would wreck them. Well, maybe not if they were severely outnumbered, like in the backstory clip where the Predators have to nuke the temple to prevent losing- which would mean Earth get invaded. But yeah, they would normally wreck the Aliens.
I felt like they gave Grid a little bit of personality in this movie. Later in the scene when the predator uses his plasmacaster for the first time the queen orders them to fall back but Grid looks like he only does so reluctantly.
That's called bad directing, The Predators were not given a fair chance on screen.
Take away their armor and weapons...the average Xenomorph slaughters the average Yautja in a mano-a-mano combat...Xenomorph has all the physical advantages. It just has more organic weapons, acid blood, powerful striking inner teeth, claws, tail, etc. Plus it has the ability to turn its body 180 degrees like a wolverine. The naked Yautja has fighting skills, superior intelligence, and is very strong, but has no other killing physical weapons. Even his expansive mouth is rather non-effective. I don’t ever recall seeing a Yautja actually biting anyone, it just mock poses its mouth like a peacock spreading its colorful feathers, lol. Yautjas are also much slower than Xenomorphs. Again, I’m talking mano-a-mano combat, no armor nor technology. Obviously, if you arm a Yautja with let’s say a samurai sword, then it easily kills a Xenomorph, but watch out for the splattered blood, lol. However, as you probably know, there are different types from both sides. On the Xenomorph side, the Big Chap, Warrior, Dog Alien, Newborn, and of course, the Queen. There’s also a King Alien who was even larger than the Queen, but she eventually killed him. On the Yautja side, Young Bloods, Warrior, Wolf, Elders, Four-Armed Predator, and of course, Ultimate Predator. It would be interesting to match all these up in an MMA cage, lol. In order for you and I to be happy, let’s compromise. The Predalien is best of both worlds.

@@Galactusz007 That's funny you say that, because you say that the Alien is a Superior creature, when a Mir female human with no armor aka alien 1 killed a zeno by using the engine boosters to kill it. And for for the Predators, you say that they are slow when in the other films it shows to be fast and stronger than a mir human and zeno. Did you forget the Wolf Predator from AVPR, that predator killed more zenos than any human in the previous films did, plus it shows great strength compared to your average zeno. Saddly that ending movie was just directed baddly, ending the film with a drawl. Plus you say take away the Predators high tech weapons. What it supposed to use harsh language, such stupid talk. Other than the movie it's self it's just directed bad. The Predators need more time on screen to fully appreciate the fight from both sides

why everyone complaining, these predators are not like the ones from predator or predator 2, they are young blood and they had limited weaponry. it is unknown if they get their plasma canons after or before they kill an alien but the fact that the humans took them didn't help...plus the alien was an alpha which mean it is smarter than the rest.
Thank you for pointing this out. The Predators that were sent to Earth in Predator 1 and 2 performed their tasks alone. In Predator 2 we see the Predator with adding a human skull to his trophy wall of skulls, which proves how accomplished he is before his visit to Los Angeles. You can indeed see the surprise of this Predator has his primary claws on his arm which are usually enough to slay most biological foe, are melted to slag. His netting which his pack brother used to kill one of the humans just before this fight was dissolved by the acid of the Xenomorph. For additional examples of how Young Blood Predators would fair in such a scenario, check out the Aliens Versus Predator 3 game. It highlights the fates of the 5 Young Bloods sent to Freya's Prospect for blooding purposes. Mind you that it could also be considered part of the test for the Young Bloods to see how they would fair against humans and Aliens/Xenomorphs already in the Pyramid/Ziggurat. Although most Predators could easily kill xenomorphs with their plasma casters as is witnessed by Predator Wolf in AVP: Requiem, the true test is being whether you have the skill to defeat your foes without advanced technology.
A reminder for everyone that although the Predator's easily have better technology than Humans, and could probably obliterate Humanity from orbit if they felt like it. They test themselves to avoid becoming lazy and weak, to make those that survive such challenges skilled and wise enough to deal with the next set of threats and hazards.
And most of what I just said is said without taking the Xenomorph factor into account. As far as the capability of Aliens goes, they are a perfect test for Predators as Xenomorphs can adapt to almost any environment. For crying out Loud they can survive in Space for a brief time. (See Alien move 1 ending for details and Aliens Colonial Marines: Stasis Interrupted) From a Facehugger that can implant a chestburster into a host, to drones and warrior castes that can slay or capture most humans, to Praetorians that are smaller than a queen but much more deadly. Each level of the Alien hive caste has the potential to slay or infest Most organic life forms, and that is not even mentioning the Queen!
Side note: it is interesting to note that the number of the humans in the sacrificial chamber is less than ten which is far more manageable than doing the test in an active human civilization. We all should know by now how that worked out. :l

It's funny that many years after this movie with Requiem, Predators, Prometheus, Covenant, and The Predator that people look back and say, this movie wasn't too terrible. Not good, but still a movie that you can watch and have some fun with.

Xenomorphs has its own weapons and armor (natural body), so A depency technology race like Predators has nothing to do, thats why Xenomorphs is the hunting relic for Predators.
I have done a lot of research on predators and aliens and from what I gather , this predator in this video , named Celtic , was only a youngblood and his apparent weakness was his cockiness or pride. He lost because he was too cocky. He kept playing around with the alien , named Grid and and even hesitated or to be exact move dramatically slow for the kill at the end , allowing Grid to break free of the net and kill him. I understand aliens are powerful creatures , in fact their entire body is a weapon. But predators are no pushovers too. I would say they are evenly matched. Both predators and aliens. Predators with their technology and hunting skills. Aliens with their acidic blood , stealth and intelligence. Anyone who disagree with me can fuck themselves hard. No seriously I don't see why anyone would disagree with me.

It's a bit sad how Scar was the only Predator that was able to give the Aliens a hard time, but that's what quick wits and cunning thinking can do for you.
This was my introduction to both these franchises, it may not be a very good film but it's special to me none the less.

I remember watching this as a kid, it was my first Alien or Predator movie funny enough. I loved it. Im sure it has some flaws as people say, but i like it honestly.

All three have distinct characters
One was not paying attention to the environment
Second was overconfident about his ability
Third (Scar) was confident and alert.... Even sided with a human for better survivability
Scar could have been an amazing hunter, he had great potential almost as good as Wolf and Jungle hunter
