And her response was literally, without missing a beat: _"If god God wanted you to be happy as a woman, you would've achieved content with your birth gender a long time ago."_ And I dunno... I just think it's a surprisingly progressive take, given it comes from a religious background.
Damn, that's a really cool response, honestly. It's much, much better than "God makes no mistakes" and "He only made man and woman," and it's genuinely really wholesome. I wish my mom would see things like that. You have a cool aunt, and a cool profile picture.

I came out as genderflux to my uncle and little cousin on video call since I haven't seen them in person in a year now (which is very unusual for my family) and my cousin asked what it was. I told her that it means sometimes I'm a girl, sometimes I'm boy, sometimes I'm neither and sometimes I'm a boy and a girl at once. "It's like shapshifting, but I can't control it. Sometimes I stay the same for a while and sometimes I'm only a boy for one day." I said. My cousin was amazed. And the very next day, she went bragging to all her kindergarten classmates that her big cousin is a shapshifter. My uncle was very excepting. It's not confusing the kids. My cousin has been extremely curious about my life as a "gendershifter" as we call it in my family. And it feels so much cooler to say "I'm a gendershifter" than "I'm genderflux"

As another cis, this fella is right. Ya guys don't have to justify and explain your gender, because, like, it's just gender and there is nothing *ScArYyY* about it? Homophobia is not cool.
I used to be unbelievably transphobic, and it took many years to get over it and realise that i was trans afterall. Thinking back, the reason i was so against it was because i thought 'who wouldn't want to be trans', 'just because you want to doesn't mean you should transition', and 'if i can convince myself I'm a cis girl, so can you". Yeah, i was very wrong
I used to be "kinda transphobic". The kind that says transphobic things about "trenders" and non-binary people, while believing that it was good for the "real trans people". Then I realized the place I was getting these ideas from was actually straight-up anti-trans (the wake-up call was seeing someone unironically use the "tr--ny" slur and no one having a problem with it). Then a bit later, I made actual trans friends, who made me realize how close-minded and toxic I was.
"who wouldn't want to be trans" man, I'm trans also and didn't go through this exactly for being transgender but I did the same thing for liking girls, literally assumed everyone liked girls, I mean to be fair my mom, dad, sister, and stepdad all like girls too i didn't know a single person who didn't like girls but because I was the most religious of them I suffered for it lmao-
@@Zuxtron I also had internalized a lot of transmedicalist beliefs, and for the longest time acted like I was white knighting for legitimate trans people, like my friend who had come out as a trans man around that time. For instance, I had to ask to make sure he went through all the right medical channels, and got a proper diagnosis. I had also convinced myself that I knew of examples of "trenders" to justify believing those things. However, the same friend who introduced me to truscum beliefs had to be the one to talk me out of them. Those I thought were "trenders" were likely trans people dealing with their issues in an unhealthy way, and without any kind of support network. By the time I started questioning myself, even though I rationally knew the transmed beliefs were wrong, I still felt like they could be true for me. This was a pretty dark time in my life, because I'd convinced myself I was the only person terrible enough to fake it for attention. In the end, I finally came out to myself as nonbinary, but my having been exposed to truscum ideas likely set me back 15 years.
The title relates to me in a way. I’m a lesbian with a partner, and their name is Reagan. Everyone calls them by their dead name except for their good friends and me. But we always call each other by nicknames around their parents; I call them Bean. I sometimes use Reagbean, too. So since we’re both lesbians, and I call them bean, lesbeans is pretty fitting lol.
I just want to add in how the jumper looks like a dyed Easter egg. A pastel toned trans egg. I feel like this is ridiculously appropriate for this one. 💙💖🤍💖💙
Dude, I tried to do that the last time I dyed eggs. It failed horribly as a trans flag, but still looked pretty cool. I'm going to try it again this year.
I've just realised that section 28 was in force for literally my whole school career. I started school in 1989, a year after section 28 was introduced and left school in 2001, two years before it was repealed. Wow, no wonder I'm confused about who I am. Hard not to feel victimised when it was literally a law introduced for my school years, aimed at preventing me from learning who I am. Instead all I got was cishet normative 🐂💩 and a heaping helping of compulsory heterosexuality. That's hit me quite hard. I always knew the dates. Indeed I voted to repeal it when I was of age to vote. But it's only now that it's clicked.🙁
8:47 I used to think like this when I was younger. Basically I looked at it like “Just do whatever you want / dress however you want, it doesn’t matter what your gender is.” Obviously I have learned a lot since then thanks to channels like this one. Turns out the whole “Gender doesn’t matter” part was just me possibly being enby and/or agender (still questioning) and not realizing it because of the kind of mindset I was surrounded with at home. To end this on a positive note, I have recently come out to one of my friends in real life as questioning, preferring more gender neutral language and being uncomfortable being called a woman, and she was really cool about it!
I'm the same way! I have the 'gender doesn't matter do/wear/like whatever you want' mentality too. And I'm now a proud Librafaun/Genderfaun person (Mostly Agender but sometimes I feel more like a non-binary neutral/masculine/male gender but never feel feminine/female)

The les bean one reminds me of when someone on Family Fortunes was asked to name a type of bean. They panicked and went for lesbian, so the people behind the scenes typing out the answers opted to put les bean down as their guess. 😆

Section 28 didn't stop me from being trans, I knew I was trans in 2nd grade, but because of it, I had no idea what the feelings I was having and I hated myself a lot
@The werewolf of Tibet I can only imagine the fragile state you must be in to seek out people you don't like, and actively reach out and comment on their posts with negative things. Hopefully you find a better use of your time. Because even if its 5 minutes, it's 5 minutes too much doing something ridiculously pathetic.
i love schitts creek, my favorite character is David. I don't see pansexual males represented in media very often so it was great for me as a pansexual male to see that. He's also really funny and just the way he talks about things, I like him a lot.
Love how Jamie’s talking about how shocking it is that section 28 existed in the UK until 2003, but Florida literally introduced a bill that makes the same policy law in FL THIS YEAR
My friend used to as "du bist lesbean?" to me bc I had a bracelet with the lesbian flag colours and she didn't know what lesbian was in german 🤣 made me laugh
2:39 this reminds me, i am applying to a choice high school and filling out the acceptance form. the question: what is your gender? the options: -male -female -option 3 it just made me laugh and this meme reminded me of it!! (btw i picked option 3)
There's a DnD club at my school and one of my friends recently joined our campaign. She was creating a bird person character and asked me what gender they should be, so I took a d4 and told them 1 is man, 2 is woman, 3 is non binary, and 4 is trans. She landed on 3. A new friend of mine from that campaign made the joke that the character was non-birdinary. It lifted my spirits so much because another guy I knew from DnD club was transphobic and I was starting to fear that more people I knew were against LGBTQ.

Then I went to my mom and she told me to ask my 'other mom' and then I got tuck in an endless circle and just decided to go out without their permission. Now I think back to it it sounds so funny, bahahaha
Jamie: "Which cute cartoon animal are you?" Me: Well, I'm the PANda, I guess. Jamie: "The Pansexual Duster... Also, it's a bit dirty." Me: Ooh! I'm changing my answer!!!
I’m a queer Christian, and I can say firsthand that internalized homophobia and transphobia is an issue that is ongoing in my life and the lives of many people. Channels like your’s help people like us overcome it! Here’s to you, Jamie!
Yes! This is me! I have been cured of my homophobia that I caught from my parents. A lot of what helped is associating with LGBT classmates that are also my friends. Also I ended up discovering that I am bisexual as well, but I've still been trying to be a good member if both the LGBT and Christian community
My family asked me if I go to church. I moved away from my hometown a couple of days after highschool graduation in 2009. They weren't as shook by the "no" as the reason why: when I got out of Christian school, generally society didn't really care what I did. It was a relief to get away from the perpetual guilt and shame. I don't associate any feelings of comfort or acceptance with Christianity or church. In 2010 I paid a quick visit to my favorite teacher, and he asked me if I was "saving myself for marriage". Never went back again.
Hi ! Did your relationship with religion changes since you accepted your sexuality ? I don’t have any religious believes, but I would be interested to have your point of view as a Christian
People like Jamie and people from theatre at school have completely flipped my view of homosexuality and transgenders. I grew up in the church thinking that they were the worst of people, and now I’m the straight cis Christian that hangs out with them. Crazy how life be that way sometimes.
I'll say this again: check out the manga "The Bride Was a Boy" cause it's wholesome as heck. The titular bride told her husband (who she calls "Husband-Kun") she's trans and he's like 'I still wanna go out with you.' And he (Husband-kun) is a protective cinnamon bun. Also, one manga I recommend that is wholesome is Dekoboko Sugar Days and its sequel Dekoboko Bittersweet Days. The sex scene in the first one was so worth the wait and it was adorable cause the guy who was submissive (can I use that term?) is like 6 feet tall and he gets super flustered.
When I saw David say that in Schitt's Creek I turned to my husband and was all "that's me except I'm more of a "cuddle with wine" person. It was the best example I had ever seen to explain how I felt.
This video made me feel so much better after my mom told me that effectively she can’t accept me not feeling fully female (I’m demigirl) because I was also super feminine as a kid but then literally telling me that if my sister had wanted to come out as enby or trans that they would’ve accepted her immediately because she is a tomboy and does more “masculine” things that sports and video games.
i LOVE schitt's creek. that wine scene was the first time on tv i'd seen bisexuality/pansexuality so well explained and it made me feel so accepted and seen.
i'm a cishet woman, i've had a terrible night at work and this is just the wholesomeness i desperately needed. thank you, jamie, for always making me smile
My tattoo artist and I were talking the other day, and we were talking about the anti-LGBT laws being attempted, especially in schools. She was wondering if she ever became a teacher in one of those states (art and/or biology), and the laws were in effect, what would happen if a student asked her spouse's name? Would she be required to lie? Her wife is amazing btw
I love to hear that people from other countries love Schitt's Creek. It was a truly great show all around, and it made me proud to be Canadian. I'm a cis, straight woman, but the love story between David and Patrick made me so happy. Love is love!! The wine analogy was so meaningful and funny, like the whole show in a nutshell. Best TV Wedding EVER!!!

Have you watched the remake of Shera? It has very good representation, and it doesn't even mention sexuality or gay once! I think its good because it makes it less about characters being gay and more about the characters themselves and their relationships. Its still on Netflix if you are interested.

Dude, there is literally a bill being considered by a committee of the Florida state Senate tomorrow that does exactly what you described for Section 28. It already passed the Florida House a few days ago and is one of Governor Ron DeSantis's legislative priorities for this legislative session. So SO tired of the regressive conservative political posturing at the expense of LGBTQ+ people's lives.
Watching from across the pond, it feels like the US is slowly backtracking on all the progress made in the last 50 or so years. Removing LGBTQ+ rights and abortion rights as just a couple of examples. I hope your country starts progressing again soon before too much damage is done.
@@hannahk1306 Yeah, it's been awful watching from north of the border, too. I feel like here in Canada we should be offering refugee status to American LGBTQ people. I've already helped one trans friend move up here, and I want to invite all the trans and queer Americans who don't feel safe! I'm just one small Canadian enby, but I wish we could help more.
@@hannahk1306 Yeah, and it's been regressing a bit in the UK, too! I lived there from 2005 to 2011, and the atmosphere for trans people then, before the whole "gender critical" thing really took off, felt like it was moving forward, not backwards! Now it's worse for trans people there, as well. But in the US, the Republican-dominated states have REALLY launched an all-out assault on LGBTQ+ people, and especially trans youth, in recent years, as well as also attacking reproductive rights, teaching accurate history about non-white Americans, and more. It's so disheartening because the Republicans have such a huge majority in the state legislature, that there is no way for Democrats to stop any of this horrible legislation except through the introduction of amendments that might make them less awful.
@@carr0760 Yep. And in addition to all of the anti-LGBTQ+ stuff they're pushing through this term, they've also launched assaults on reproductive freedom and even on teaching accurate history regarding the treatment of racial and ethnic minorities, too. All of these things are being pushed forward in other bills going through Florida's legislature, this year. They're redefining "gender" as "sex" and redefining "ethnicity" as "color", which is not anywhere even close to the same thing. They're pushing more abortion restrictions, heterosexual abstinence-only sex education (which is NOT actually educating anyone about anything at all), and removing requirements for dating violence/healthy relationship curricula to be secular in nature, which opens up the possibility of religious-based curricula. It's overwhelmingly bad.

Content note: mention of serious depression, attempted suicide. I'm bi and I grew up under Section 28 (1988-2003); I started secondary school in '89 and graduated uni in 2000. Didn't stop me being bi. Stopped me coming out until I was 23, when I was in a very welcoming community with a number of out bi folks, but not until after I'd had a serious depressive episode culminating in a suicide attempt. Turns out I probably had some level of depression for most of my teens. Now, S28 didn't cause that, but it sure as hell couldn't have helped. On a different matter, I think transphobes accuse transfolks of "perpetuating harmful gender steretypes" because until fairly recently doctors *required* trans people seeking to medically transition to enact traditional gendered behaviour. I hope any doctor helping transfolks to transition would be wiser now, but I suspect that this, like many other things, is a work in progress.
I love Dan and the way he played a pansexual character, but I also love the actress who played Stevie (emily) realised she was pansexual after being on the show and learning about it! it just shows how important queer rep is.

Growing up, I was a terrible homophobe and transphobe based on religion and just hating myself because I wasn't "like other girls" at the time. It took me learning about LGBT issues and talking to others for me to realize that I identified with some of them, and that I didn't actually agree with all the bs I mentioned. I've not known it for very long, but I'm a demi-pansexual demigirl, and I'm just happy being me. 😊😊 Edit: I'm trans 😅
Schitt's Creek, yyyeessssss!!! When Jaime said "bebe" like Moira does, it felt like the ocean retreated and Canada folded over into the UK and we were in the same room. 🥰 I insert that particular Moira-ism into my speaking pretty frequently. haha

Section 28 still has an impact today, I supported a child who came to me with gender issues (without leading them or anything, just telling them it was ok to question things ) and I was told it was inappropriate as a school worker. So dumb. I left working in schools not long after. I despair for the school system.
To anyone who needs to hear this: I'm so glad you are here ❤️ Please get something to eat and drink. Don't forget to take your medicine. You have done enough for today, it's time to rest and relax. Do something for yourself, you deserve to be spoiled as much as you spoil others 💖

"who wouldn't want to be trans" man, I'm trans also and didn't go through this exactly for being transgender but I did the same thing for liking girls, literally assumed everyone liked girls, I mean to be fair my mom, dad, sister, and stepdad all like girls too i didn't know a single person who didn't like girls but because I was the most religious of them I suffered for it lmao-
*just realized desperately wishing to be another gender isn't normal and now my entire existence was always wrong*
That's so funny! XD

I used to think like this when I was younger.

Same, I still suffer from religious trama, that Im going to hell

It's even worse because there is an amendment which would require schools to out students to their parents.
It is so dangerous.
@@hannahk1306 Yeah, it's been awful watching from north of the border, too. I feel like here in Canada we should be offering refugee status to American LGBTQ people.

Every time someone brings up people being offended by the word cis, it takes me back to my freshman year of college… There was this guy in my hallway who we hung out with frequently and he was just a walking stereotype of privilege (cherry on top, his favorite swear word was c**t and he didn’t see any problem with that..) and so one day I called him out by saying “okay, cis-het-white-dude…” and he got offended because he said cis was a slur. 🤦🏼♀️
