As a teenager in the 2000's this was the nightmare on elm street I rented the most, for some reason not even clueing into all the gay references throughout.
For me I loved it because it was darker and I loved the relationship between Jesse and Lisa, it was very genuine great reaction guys cheers

I wanna speak to those who were always confused by this one. So basically after Nancy got away and this new family moved in, Freddy goal was to take over Jesse body and have him kill for him, a host if you will. Mostly because Freddy original goal was to hunt down the kids of the parents who burned him in the fire and because Jesse and his family were innocent and had nothing to do with his murder, he wanted to take over his body, so that he can continue his killing spree due to not having any prey because nobody knows him.
When Jesse touched Freddy's glove for the first time in the basement that's when he was possessed by Freddy allowing him to bring the dreamworld to the real world, so it didn't matter if people was sleep or not really. Also when he took over Jesse's body, it made him weak because he was able to feel human emotions and because of that, he took his own life so he can start fresh and that's what led up to part 3. He got stronger for part 3 to happen previous from part 2 to kill the rest of the kids who were at the pool party because now they know who he is.
I am a huge Freddy fan and in my opinion he's the best slasher that ever made. That's why I say part 1-8 are classic, you just have to really understand each concept and Freddy's background to understand. If you get confused and hurt your head overthinking then its obvious, your don't know his full on full story

This movie gets such a bad rap and it’s not warranted, it’s DIFFERENT from all the other movies but that’s not necessarily a bad thing, it’s actually one of my favorite movies of the entire franchise

This movie has some homosexual undertones involving the main character, Jesse played by Mark Patton, whom came out of the closet years after the movie was released.
There is even a documentary called Scream, Queen: My Nightmare On Elm Street.

This NOES installment is my fave, since I was a kid, and it just keeps getting better & more of a cult following, as the 'Black sheep' of the franchise. All of the terribly curious & notoriety behind the scenes just make part 2 that much more compelling. BUT!! 1ST & foremost, Freddy's Revenge has Thee best kills & consensus of the scariest, darkest Fred Krueger 🤘

In a world where franchises deliver more of the same in every sequel, it's a shame that NOES 2 doesn't get the recognition it deserves for actually attempting something different.

This one is the most controversial because the actor who played Jesse, Mark Patton, was a closeted gay actor and the stress caused by the writer and remember this was written in the pre-HIV/AIDS 1980s, that even Robert Englund stated in a 2010 interview that this was intended to be a "bisexual film" because the character of Jesse is struggling and questioning his sexuality.
The writer blamed the movie bombing at the box office on Mark Patton, who essentially was forced out of the closet and being labeled as a "scream queen (a term that us gay men say to one another)," and this basically ended his career as an actor. This caused so much stress in Mark's life and he documented it all in "Scream, Queen! My Nightmare On Elm Street" in 2019, where the writer finally confessed that it was his writing of the role to make Jesse gay.

      @ForEternia ปีที่แล้ว

Your mixed-up in some of your facts? First off this movie was written in 1985, so in no way was this written pre-HIV/AIDS. Also this movie did not bomb at the box office. If anything, It actually surpassed the success of the original.

I woke up screaming like this kid once. I was walking through a field of snakes and got about in the middle and I stepped on a snake's tail and they all woke up and started biting me on the face and everywhere. I woke up screaming lol. Had a mishap hitchhiking with a girl and thee guys were talking about how they were going to do these things to us and they went off the road into a ditch, as we were on a back country road. I ran up to a house and sought safety. She still wanted to go with them, despite what they were saying about doing to us. You know, do bad things to the girl and get rid of the guy type stuff. Woke up screaming on that one.

this movie feels separated from the franchise for me just because of how different and odd it is. Freddy also feels way darker and less of a fun villain to root for. But I do love this movie for having the first male "scream queen" and how unabashedly gay it is in its subtext and themes. I have no clue how this was approved in the era it was produced.

    • @SJ-ty5rw

It's different because it was made without Wes Craven . They seemed to try and take over after the first movie , and didn't really understand Freddy . That being said he was the most scary in this one .

@@SJ-ty5rw True. There's a reason this one wasn't as well received as the first film and precisely why New Line enticed Craven to come back for what many call the proper sequel to Elm Street 1 ie Elm Street 3 Dream Warriors.

Did you get the homoerotic undertones. This was the first time they had a scream King. The guy who played Jesse was gay in real life and he portrayed it perfectly although he was with a girl. They had to make his love interest a girl but he seemed to like his friend more. When he came into his friends room, they hinted that he would rather be with his friend than the girl.

Also here's a little fun fact in the book series Jesse (almost) got pinned for everything and yes everybody dies in that bus except for Mark. Here's another fun fact... This is the first time (out of two films) what he killed close to 40 people. The second time was Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare because he kills every kid and almost every teenager in the entire world. After this incident they made a law in Springfield that if anyone meant to Freddy Krueger they get locked up in the same place he was created and was forced to take the same pills that Nancy once took. Remember Nancy didn't have any dream until Kristen pulled her in. One last fun fact all of these kids from part 1 to 4 are the last surviving elm Street kids (and potentially victims of Freddy) and in deleted scene in part 1 each one of them had a sibling that was killed (and possibly raped) by Freddy Krueger and

The sequels don't really make any sense anymore now that I see the original in a new light. If you just see the original movie as one long nightmare of Nancy's and know that Freddy was never real and her friends are not dead, sequels don't make any sense at all. New Line Cinema saw franchise potential during the film dailies of the original movie so they had Wes Craven tack-on the open ending of Nancy's mother being pulled through the door. It looked so cheap because it was filmed last minute

This movie gets hate and it justifiably gets hate because of what they did with Freddy Krueger's powers and abilities. The movies director knowingly and willingly ignored everything from the first movie. Wich clearly shows and states that Freddy Krueger only has powers in the dream world Freddy Krueger only kills people in their dreams. Freddy Krueger never had any interest in taking over anyone's body or coming into the real world. The director of this movie completely ignored all of that on purpose to make him his version of Freddy Krueger how he wanted him to make him how he thought he should be. So he ignored all of a dream stuff and tossed it out of the window. Then made Freddy Krueger want to take over somebody's body basically possess someone like a normal demon so he's no longer a dream demon. Then no one ever dies in a dream because every kill was in the real world never in a dream and every victim is someone who's not sleeping. Then he has powers in the real world where the first movie clearly states he has powers only in the dream world. So this movie director knowingly and willingly took a dream demon and made him into a normal demon. That really does nothing in nightmares to people basically this movie could have been called Exorcist 4. Then it would have been more accurate than a nightmare and Elm Street. Because Freddy is basically a normal demon he possesses someone's body he kills people in the real world and has powers in the real world. That's like every other normal procession movie with a normal demon like the Exorcist. Which completely goes against everything that Freddy Krueger is clearly shown to be in the first movie. Which is a dream demon because he only kills people in their dreams meaning the people are sleeping when he kills them. He only has powers in the dream world because once hes removed from the dream world he has no powers in the real world. Then never even tries to take over somebody's body because toys with them and then kills them. This is why this movie gets hate and it's Justified and there's no excuse for it what happened in this movie.
This movie is literally a key example of what not to do in a sequel. You never take a key character like Freddy Krueger and completely ignore his established powers and abilities. Then completely rewrite them just because you feel like it it's not right for the character that you did not create. Because that's what the director did in this movie he didn't like Freddy Krueger's. Powers and abilities from the first movie so he completely rewrote them in this movie. That would be like having Halloween 2 but making it so Michael Myers only kills people in their dreams now and he does it all year around now. You don't do that to characters if you want to have a character of new powers and abilities you make a new character. You also make a new movie with that character you do not hijack establish character and movie and do that. Because the director of this movie figured he would take a Nightmare on Elm Street and the character Freddy Krueger. Then make his own separate movie but have it called A Nightmare on Elm Street and have it have Freddy Krueger character. You don't do that with sequels you make a new original movie with a new character with a new name. Then give them the powers and abilities you want them to have.
This is the key problem with the movie regardless of what anyone says it has nothing to do anything LGB related. People literally say this movie isn't even a nightmare on Elm Street movie since no one ever gets killed in a dream. Because everyone that gets killed is awake their not sleeping and it never happens in a dream it's in the real world and he still has powers. The Director of this movie basically just made a procession Murder movie and put the names Nightmare on Elm Street on it and Freddy Krueger in it.
