Movie Summary:
A deep space transporter crash-lands on a desolate planet circled by three suns. Among the survivors are pilot Carolyn Fry, mystic Abu `Imam' al-Walid, cop William J Johns and convicted criminal Richard B Riddick, and their first thoughts are of survival and escape. Then Fry finds out that the planet suffers a total eclipse every 22 years, which is when the hibernating, flesh-eating inhabitants awake and hunt.

Riddick is actually Vin Diesel's favorite character to play. In fact once he became a more established actor, he negotiated for the rights to Riddick and owns the franchise. He was also involved in the making of both video games which take place in the Riddick universe and has written the lore.
I still play Butcher Bay and Dark Athena. I wish he had focused more on this than the fast saga.
@@qobikwezi656 Butcher Bay was highly underrated the time it came out. I remember playing it at the time it came out and was blown away by how well it played and how good it looked. Not to mention the story was sick. Who doesnt love planet sized prison breakout.

I also blame the fan base because very few of us are stans. I joined a bunch of Riddick groups with an average of 20k members on FB four years ago and I was the only active member. Tried to get the admins to be more creative but nothing.
It still pisses me off that he chose to do more Unnecessary "Fast" movies than "Riddick"
@@ottoswanson6664 The Riddick fanbase is also part of the problem. No passion no engagement. I somehow understand why it's not a priority. I mean just look at this comment section. The energy is low compared to other not so cool franchises like Tron or that Kaiju franchise. He should have cast Chinese and Japanese recurring actors and the fans of those nations would have been satisfactory.
As a fan of anti-heroes, I love this movie so much. For one behind-the-scenes fact, that scene at 5:45 when he pops his shoulders out of joint and then back in - he actually was able to do that move and demonstrated it on the set, although I think in the actual film version there was some CGI or tricky editing because he couldn't quite do it with the cuffs on. Your reaction to seeing that was my reaction too, lol.
I hope you'll watch the other movies too. Chronicles of Riddick continues the story, and Riddick ties in to both previous movies. It is a fun series.

Agreed, I wish the reception of Chronicles was better so he was motivated to do it right away. The last Riddick movie was still enjoyable despite its obvious rehash nature, but by the time we get Furya it will be old man Riddick.

@@ivanjuarez1160 Johns had captured Riddick before Pitch Black and sold him to Butcher Bay Prison. Riddick tried to escape Johns stopped him, they then transferred him to double max security, he tried to escape again, recaptured and put him in a cryo chamber. He mother-effing escaped from a cryo chamber🤯🤯🥳👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 The wardens double crossed Johns and they joined forces stole the wardens ship and escaped leaving the prison in chaos because of an outbreak of creatures caused by Riddick.
After that they were attacked by a gigantic mercenary ship called the Dark Athena, another adventure of it's own. The Dark Athena had captured a planet. Riddick freed them and killed their leader Rivas then got captured by Johns again who was now transporting him to another prison which takes off from where Pitch Black begins.
Fun Fact: Vin Diesel own the rights to Riddick thanks to his cameo in Tokyo Drift. He had offered something like 10 mil for the property rights but Universal offered the other deal. Now he owns the rights and constantly makes more Fast films, dude came out with far more than what he offered for it😅😅
Not going to lie; I love this movie.... It was a random choice one day and I did not regret it.

The Chronicles of Riddick is the sequels to pitch black
Yes. Chronicles of Riddick in 2004 and Riddick in 2013. Some characters return too.
First is Pitch Black, then their was an animated film, Dark Fury, then there is The Chronicles of Riddick, and then their is Riddick.. Rumor has it that Vin Diesal wants to do another one.
Furya is in the making. It says so on Vin Diesel's IMDB page.
I know im late but story wise its actually Chronicles of Riddick Escape from Butcher Bay game and Chronicles of Riddick Assault on Dark Athena game -> Pitch Black (2000) -> Dark Fury (2004) -> Chronicles of Riddick (2004) -> Blindsided (2013) -> Riddick (2013). Both games are flashbacks of events before Pitch Black but takes place on Icy planet at the beginning of Chronicles of Riddick (2004). So far last Riddick movie is gonna be Furya but that is still in the works so it might be a while before that is released.
The sequel expands the universe some more, adding elements of space opera (like Star Wars and Star Trek), and definitely has more action. I hope you'll react to it too; it's pretty fun.
All right. This was Vin Diesel's first major starring role. His first movie was a little tiny part in Saving Private Ryan, Vin Diesel's real name is not Vin Diesel. It is Mark Sinclair who started as a break dancer. Cole Hauser the actor plays the Merck John's was in the movie Dazed and Confused with Ben Affleck and it was also the very first movie Matthew McConaughey was in he was also played the bad guy in 2 fast 2 furious.

Fun Fact: The character of Riddick (Vin Diesel) was a woman in an early rough draft of the script.
Ending Changed Fact: The original ending had Riddick (Vin Diesel) being killed instead of Carolyn (Radha Mitchell). Studio agreed Riddick was a more interesting character for sequels.
Location Location Fact: The hot desert in the movie, was actually about ten degrees Celsius (fifty degrees Fahrenheit) where they filmed in the Australian Outback. They were misting water on the actors to make it appear as if they were sweating.
Shine Job Fact: The contacts that Vin Diesel wore to play Riddick were a prototype. After the first day of filming, when they tried to remove the contact lenses, they couldn't. Due to where they were filming, they had to have an optometrist flown in from the nearest town, three hours away. The contact lenses Vin Diesel wore in the movie, while a prototype during production, were briefly available to the public from Lens Quest following the release of the film. They were called Shine Job, like in the movie.

A little fact about Vin Diesel: He is a gamer, and one of his favourite games is Ark - Survival Evolved. When a dlc came out he was one of the first gamers, who found out a bug and told the game makers about that! So they learned to know, that a famous actor is a Ark Player and started to have contact with him. So Vin Diesel became a part of the game as the character "Santiago"! He made the voice of him and in the last part of the game who called "Genesis 2" he was in the end szene! Also he promoted Ark 2 and would be a important character in this game, who will comes out next year! Also Vin Diesel became the producer of the animated Series about Ark called "Ark - The animated series"! There is a trailer on youtube, when you are interested! Vin is not the only producer, Gerard Butler and Russell Crowe are also in it, as producer and voices! There are many other stars in it, like Michelle Yeoh, David Tennant, Karl Urban, Alan Tudyk, Jeffrey Wright, Monica Bellucci and more! I think the Series will start at the end of the year and its about the story before the game Starts! I hope this was something interesting for you!
5:27, The brunette character Shazza is played by the great Australian actress Claudia Black. At about the time this movie came out she was the lead actress on a Syfy show called Farscape.
Her character on that show is a woman from another planet who was born into a spacefaring military culture that favors strength over love and compassion. Then she meets an astronaut from modern day Earth (played by Ben Browder) who says "You can be more". Watching her and Browder play against one another over four seasons was awesome.
If you ever want to watch quirky space opera, I highly recommend Farscape.

The contact lenses Vin Diesel wore in the movie were prototypes and had never been tested or worn before. The riddick movies are severely underrated imo. It even kickstarted my training because vin diesels physique was my aim.
I fell in love with this stuff back when I was younger and the chronicles of Riddick game came out on the original Xbox. This is the first move, chronicles of Riddick is the second and Riddick is the third movie. He's supposed to be getting close to finishing the newest one. His actual name is Mark Sinclair which feels kinda weird to say lol. Definitely my favorite Vin Diesel films
If you want a less action oriented Vin Diesel movie to see another side to him, Find Me Guilty is a really fun legal drama with him as the lead. Also, there’s a short film he directed and starred in early in his career called Multi-facial that’s worth watching, it’s on youtube.

This movie is the first of three so far though they are talking about possibly making another one as well. I love this movie so much and yes it's a horror movie haha. Personally this one is my favorite and then the third movie is my second favorite in this verse. There was also a cartoon movie but never saw it. Whoever made this one is scared of sharp things in my opinion because the aliens have sharp teeth,tails and heads which is interesting. This was my second Vin-Diesel movie after watching Triple X which was the first thing I saw him in and he became one of my favorite actors. I love Riddick so much because he is full of mystery but also his eyes being able to see in the dark is so cool and his character in general is one of my favorites that the actor has played. Nice reaction and yes it's always more fun seeing a movie when you don't know much about it and just going with the flow as it were. The Last Witch Hunter is what you are thinking of and I liked it a lot also they are making a second one but it's unknown what the release date will be or the story for that matter.

I actually liked The Chronicles Of Riddick for what it was, except for the title and ending.
True but I give chronicles credit for trying to expand the riddick world and trying to make something new. Think it may have been too big for it’s britches though. It was still solid. All 3 films are good to solid.

Chronicles was interesting but it felt a little bit out of place. Pitch Black and Riddick are both solid sci-fi movies, while Chronicles felt more like a fantasy set in space, which was tonally jarring to me. It was an interesting story, and I really did enjoy it, but it doesn't feel like it takes place in the same story universe.
