You are truly an amazing man and remind me of my dad. He could make anything and do it just like you...not really have a drawing or plan...just start building. Looking forward to the next part! Oh and get you some small plastic bags and slide them over your socks then put on your boots and your feet will stay warm.
Hey Ants, I know this video is old but I hope you see this comment. Remember you said sometimes you get good welds and sometimes you get crap? I noticed before that your welding rods are sitting in cardboard boxes on your shelf. The flux on welding rods absorbs moisture from humidity in the air. In some cases that causes rust between the inner rod and the flux coating so then you weld impurities right in from the rod. It helps to keep the rods in sealed containers. It will also help you very much to get a welding rod heater to preheat your rods and drive any moisture out of them. But really you can use any oven to heat them up to around 82°C before using them. Also make sure nobody else in your home is using a lot of electricity while you are welding, so your supply amperage stays consistent.

28:36 Yeah, that stock is a bit too much for the saw *if the free end is unsupported!* Put a table (or some other device) (maybe a sling?) at the cut-off end of the saw to keep the pieces from freely falling to the floor.
If you are going to repurpose that trailer to a dump, you may want to move the axle location -- it's fine where it is if you only use it on your property with the tractor, but if you intend on using it to pick up materials to bring home the tongue weight might be too much for your tow vehicle. You might also want to look into a set of chains for the skid steer -- it would stop all of the traction issues. Keep up the videos ... I always enjoy them!!!
Yeah im actually happy where its located. It puts more weight on tractor rear end thus increasing its traction and also takes stress off the axel on the treiler.

Really good build. Put some old carpet or wooden battens (duck boards) on the floor where you stand while drilling with the pillar drill. It’s the cold concrete that makes your feet cold 👍

I’d rather overkill then build something that’s going to fail my friend, I think the dump angle is going to be great and those rams are awesome! Nice nice nice. I like it. I have often thought about a dump trailer myself but one that I can tow with the car etc and not the tractor. More so for when I was getting logs myself. Good job bud, super impressive.
Might want to rethink your hinge design? For the highest angle of tilt (to do efficient dumping without having to shovel it out) your hinge needs to be at the very back of your main frame. You also want to keep your center of gravity as low as possible. Tipping a full load is no fun. The hinges are too high and needlessly raise the center of gravity.. The dump frame would benefit from all the square tube being in a flat plane, again for a lower cg. So your cross members should be welded flush to the side rails not on top. This will also as a bonus provide support for your dump floor at the same time. The cg comes into play when operating on less than a flat surface. Great project.
Thanks Douglas all great suggestions. I agree totally with what you said. Like the hinges being too tall. As iv about 90% finished right now i wont want to go back and redesigne anything at this time. Will keep the tips in mind though incase i will do anything in the future.
I'm thinking you'll need some gussets or extra support on the down tubes for the bottom end of the rams; there's going to be a lot of stress on the welds at the frame. But for sure the rest of it is not going to break! Looking forward to part 2.
Funny, you were worry about the shop getting caught on fire, and then when you start cutting, all the sparks fly over your cars. You do realise that they will burns through the paint and eventually start rusting in all the burning spots. Right? I see so many people do stuff like this, or blowing sparks all over thier glass windows and such🤦♂
Yeah i sure will. But i remember a videp by andrew when he tried to open up a cylinder but eventually cave up and took it in a shop. However not all cylinders are the same 😅
Idk buddy, i have a feeling i dont have enough power if i add tracks to my wheels. i can feel the engine or hydraulics bog down when i go full throttle spinning on spot, adding tracks would just stall the engine constantly or maybe theres something wrong with the thing.

I love your unplanned approach but your mind must be seriously sorted for problem solving. I expect that designers would measure every bit of stress and force on every bit of the structure and probably still not come up with an affordable solution as you have done. Well done. So they stress test everything to failure to figure out how thick of material to put this or that just so it can manage its weight class and not break atleast untill the warranty is valid lol. Well, because of the "cold feet". In my training workshop, we had very simple wooden slatted grates lying on the concrete floor to avoid "cold feet". Since you often work in the workshop in winter, maybe an idea.
the problem with the saw on 900x900 was before the saw was through the the piece your cutting off the weight dropped and dragged the rest onto the blade . get some support for large heavy cut offs 🙂
You mentioned a gantry crane like AC has. Years ago, i bought a portable aluminum gantry that could be transported and set-up by one person. It was good for 1.5 tons i believe. I wonder if something like that is available and would suit your needs. It was on wheels and could be rolled out of the way. Cheers from Eastern Canada.

Hi! What rods are you using with your welder? Sounds like you have too small distance from tip to material but it will probably be fine. Amazing how powerful the small MMA welders are. Good video, I will keep a lookout for part 2.
Iv used 2 different ones idk what type of rods they are. Onr of them likes to burn very close i can even push it into the pool and it wont go out. But another type i have liked a very specific cap, too close or far and it will stop burning.

To test hydraulic cylinders sometimes compressed air is enough. Does not work super exact but complete stroke in or out is already possible. Simple is best.

There are rods wich are meant for specific angle of attack and some are meant to weld in any position. Iv noticed the more expensive rods run alot cleaner arc with a lot less sticking.
I have an Evolution Rage 6 and an Evolution bench saw, really good bits of kits and the blades will cut anything. As you can guess I am going through your back catalogue and catching up. 👍
From a fan who happens to be a welder....clean your earth climp and grind an area back to bare metal for it, if that does not improve the arc increase the amps....failing that get a decent welder!

I dont think it will fail on me. This trailer will be tounge heavy, looking @ axel position will confirm this, this will reduce overall stress on the axel and wheels.

You should look into getting BOBCAT TRACKS system for yours just because of the amount of snow and hill sides you have to deal with on a daily grind.

Possible yes. i ended up doing the bed 45cm deep i think. Not sure i will put it full of anything at first, wanna test it out gradually.

You can put down a small pad made of 4x4s and plywood on top and bottom. It would prevent sinking into soft wet surfaces, helping to keep level

Change frame rate on GoPro to remove flicker. Way overkill on rams especially with axle without bearings!
I tried all the fps settings still get flicker. Overkill is good 🤔 sometimes 😅👍

it looks like you are holding the rods wrong, its the opposite of how you would normally mig weld....watch a how to video.
There are rods wich are meant for specific angle of attack and some are meant to weld in any position. Iv noticed the more expensive rods run alot cleaner arc with a lot less sticking.

From a fan who happens to be a welder....clean your earth climp and grind an area back to bare metal for it, if that does not improve the arc increase the amps....failing that get a decent welder!

One ram would have been plenty, but two rams keep it more stable and doesn’t put as much stress on your pivot points.

I dont think it will fail on me. This trailer will be tounge heavy, looking @ axel position will confirm this, this will reduce overall stress on the axel and wheels.
