Plazmaman or rb25 neo intake would be interesting to see the restrictive or torque and power differences ✌️🇦🇺 or even from a single 85mm throttle to the itb’s setup as well
This has been done in depth by an Australian tuner. Probably circa 2006. I'd have to do my homework to find out who did it. Modified rb25 plenum do very well up to 500 but after that the plasma an is the daddy. From what I remember 😉
THANK YOU! This is amazing! I love how thoroughly you go into the data, that's so important when the internet is so full of people arguing over "my part is better because I said so" information. Love this channel!
Finally someone tests inlet manifolds. For such a commonly modified part, next to no information on gains vs stock. Hence why I’m reluctant to go buy a Hypertune or Plaz because other than the weld porn and good looks and “bigger must be better”, no data exists to support one other than a sales pitch
Love the video! I've had my GTR for 12 years, when i bought it it was basically stock engine and turbos with a haltech platinum pro. When the turbos needed replacement i went for 2x GT2860-5, first on the stock plenum but right after that we went for the Nismo because that was laying on the shelf and was for sale for cheap.. down low we could add around 15% more fuel after installing the Nismo it did feel more lively afterwards. It basically is a driveability upgrade. Now we are building a 2.8 with a gtx3584rs with hypertune v2 intake on a electronic single throttle body. Ported head, diffrent cams etc. Really excited what that will do! As for next plenums? I guess it would be cool to test the ITB version of the Hypertune vs stock or vs the nismo, see how they compare! and perhaps test the itb hypertune vs the single throttle body hypertune to see what diffrence throttle bodys make. Btw you can fit the Nismo plenum with the engine in the car (r33gtr) if you loosen the engine mounts and intake piping and tilt the block sideways as far as it will go. That way you don't have to remove the brake booster etc. You do need someone to help tilting it though.
Very good comparison Andy. Your channel deserves more recognition! The next inlet manifold options to test could be the Greddy and then a Plazamamann/Hypertune?
Your hitting outta the park with this stuff. PS-Anyone looking for fantastic GTR 32 pictures, Motive Video’s are amazing !! For the price they definitely won’t last long.
Never get tired of that wastegate clatter lovely build and a good result. No point havin loads of grunt if its a pig at slow speeds drivability is everything ....
I keep hearing bigger capacity manifolds make a bigger difference on uneven firing engines and also the ones with small displacement. I would love to see if that is the case on GR Yaris or any other 1 liter engine, if that is possible.
Interested in this new hks advanced heritage project their new manifold looks revolutionary if it does what they say it does but greddy hypertune etc deserve a shot too just to be fair
Very well done Andrew. The Nismo plenum seems to be the perfect choice for those who want a capable street/circuit car, and it's also one I myself have been eyeing for a while. I would recommend giving Greddy's new RB26 plenum or the Plazmaman plenum the next choice.
Had my Nismo plenum / collector for about 2 years too! I bought the titanium studs from Stefan at IEE in NZ to fit it. You don't need to remove the brake or clutch boosters to do it then! Wish I knew that before I pulled the old plenum out and put it back. 😂 Hoping to get it swapped out next week before mapping. Great, informative video, as always! 👍
A great video showing how parts like these can really change the driveability of an engine. Full throttle really isn't of much use for a road going car yet seeing the torque increase much lower down in the rev range is. Hence why your road test was a bit of a surprise compared to what the rolling road data gave you. People get so transfixed by power yet power is nothing more than torque multiplied by engine speed and it's the torque that makes an engine driveable or not.
Love your vids, these sort of compairsons are always interesting... even if I have a BPU 7MGTE and not a built RB26 ^_^ PS: Are we gonna see the RB block-breaking video soon, I have been looking forward to it after the 2JZ one
Been waiting a long time to see this! Good woork! At over $100 USD per KW, that's a pricey one! Thanks for spending the money! I'm interested in seeing the change to single throttle body manifolds vs the factory style.
Brilliant... I've been really looking forward to these tests!! I'd like to see Plazaman, Hypertune, Swedish style (slot type, like on the Group B Audi Quatros) and single vs ITB's. I know it's all down to budget but loving this content 😎👍🏻
I think a plazmaman or any other companies fabricated single throttle body style/conversion would be interesting to see. Do they make more power and torque or is it looks or just the ability to go fly by wire throttle for other benefits like torque management and throttle mapping. It would open up a lot of debate about the pro's and con's between them. Awesome presentation and research on the Nismo inlet plenum.
Very informative clip! I’ve just bought a narpec x hypertune inlet would love to see how that compare or greddy inlet manifold against the almighty nismo …great video Andrew
Great work Andrew, well deserved kudos. ITBs vs Single throttle body welded onto stock manifold then gutting the ITB's out to keep the plenum volume/runner style etc etc the same.
Great vid, I love tests! And glad it worked kinda how I'd always presumed. It's crazy how much nicer to drive a good plenum design makes a car on the road and track, even if it don't look like it really on a dyno. Easy to make a big power inlet, but they often do the opposite of the above, but a good design that drives optimal is different, hence most serious works race engines don't have big blob inlets like most aftermarket tuner big power inlets.
I had to replace three small coolant hoses that sit between the firewall and the far end of the inlet plenum on my own R32 GTR which required removing the inlet plenum, did not realise it would take me 10 hours to so lol. Next time I'm just converting to single throttle body, it would be way easier
I think the camshafts have an impact on this as well. If you have bigger camshafts it would take bigger advantage of the higher air capacity at higher rpm.
Im dying to get my hands on the Skunk 2 intake manifold they are currently developing to replace the plastic oem intake manifold on my 686 hp Honda Civic Type R. I currently have a Radium port injection kit on the stock intake manifold with four Injector Dynamics stainless ID1700’s controlled by a Motec M142. The Skunk 2 aluminum manifold will have velocity stacks to each runner and a fuel rail for port injection. I may replace the small stock dbw throttle body with a larger Spoon throttle body.
should test the 49mm individual throtle bodys that naprec sale its alot people in japan that clame big gains throughout the whole range of rpm combine the naprec 49mm throtlle body's with nismo intake...
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the the issue with the standard intake was the last two cylinders tend to run leaner, which meant that they got too much air compared to the front cylinders. The Nismo plenum with addition of internal bellbouths would allow more even flow doiwn the runners as they would collect it away from the plenum walls where air speed is more consisitent. It's benefits would be improved tuning due to even fuel air ratios across cylinders, which is where the extra 2% more power comes from. I wouldn't think the standard intake plenum as a restriction, as I'm sure intercoolers would be the greatest contributors to pressure drops. Overall very informative, but I would have liked some flow bench testing just to confirm the outcome of the results.
Super love it thank you, thank you to all the people that make theses information packed videos for us to enjoy! Ps could you test the greddy manifold. There's also a China version of it dunno if you have one lying around haha

Great video Andrew, did you happen to weigh the two intake manifolds? I realize that any difference is going to be negligible, but would be interesting to note.
Thanks for the great video, very useful, planning some upgrades to the airflow on RB26, better downpipe, smoother air filter inlets and smoother turbo inlet from the intake piping, I think I'll also add a Nismo plenum.
