I don’t see a lot of people mentioning just how many people led to the murder of the boy in discussions, only speaking of daemon but it’s true that there was a colossal failure on the greens’ side as well for leaving the literal queen unguarded in the dead of night.

Daemon did ask them to do that. When they asked what should they do if they can’t find Aemond and you see him smirk and the scene cut out. So he obviously gave the instruction. There’s no ways about it
Blood and cheese weren’t idiots. When cheese asked daemon that what if they don’t find Aemon, the scene got cut but later blood says that he(Daemon) said a son for a son so first target was Aemon but if not found then the heir which they did exactly that.
However in the books, Aemon was never a target for blood and cheese. The target was the kid and this all happened much crazier in the books.
The book was soooo much better though. Still pissed that they cut off Maelor. The choice between her sons was a turning point for Helaena.

@@rexibhazoboa7097 Daemon has always been Daemon. People seem to be uncomfortable with gray characters even though they're the most interesting. You either accept all of his sides or you don't accept him at all.
She had ONE line in the whole episode and killed it !
What a lot of people miss -- what I missed, too, on the first time through the episode -- is that when Daemon hires these two, they ask him, "What do we do if we can't find him?" It's a very very brief thing, but the camera sits on Daemon for just a few seconds he gives a very tiny smirk, then the camera cuts away. So offscreen, it seems like he told them that if they couldn't get to Aemond, then Aegon's son would do...a son for a son. But in striking out in this way, Daemon has fired the 2nd shot of the war, and it's going to be ON now, without a doubt.

If you slowmo or pause the scene right before Luke is killed, he is directly within the bite range of Vhagar's mouth and teeth. Vhagar decimated Luke and Arrax that's why only his cloak and the dragon's partly mangled wings survived to wash up and be found.

it was better than any season 1 episode that's for sure, the writing was still a little brittle though , not to mention, the last scene was changed and made less iconic ( aka the way it was written was supposed to be a red wedding type of situation, filled with tension and agony, but yeah , it will be forgotten

It could mean either Aemond or Aegon's son. Daemon left it open to interpretation from what we can see, so he should have clarified. The order wasn't clear enough for blood and cheese. Rhaenyra said " I want Aemond Targaren". That is extremely specific, even though she doesn't say if she wants him dead or alive. Whether Daemon ordered them to kill Aegon's son or not, he still sent them, so it is his fault no matter what.

Someone pointed out Rhaenyra only spoke four words the whole episode: "I want Aemond Targaryen." Says a lot that she was in so many scenes and it was just pure grief on screen.

I will not defend the dude at all, but the main reason why Aemond Targaryen ( eye-patch dude ) walks around like his sh!t don't stink is because he has to act as though he is one bad MFer!
Second born ( in a culture where birth placement matters more than ability ), picked on by both older and younger brother ( pig as a dragon prank ) and is basically smarter than his "king" at any given point ( an eye for a HUGE dragon seems fair to me too ). He ( eye-patch ) is playing the political game of thrones; show strength where you are weak as to not allow your enemies ( all of court ) knowledge of said weaknesses... The opposite is true to catch your enemies off-guard and you can then get them in your pocket... The Game of Thrones is dangerous to play; you either win or die.
Not to mention he just committed kinslaying, one of the worst things you could do in Westeros. He’s putting on a strong front but he has too or everything he’s worked for will crumble. And how that Jaehaerys is gone he’s leveled up to be Aegons heir, even more pressure to keep up the front
After rewatching the episode and considering the title of the episode, A Son For A Son, I'm almost 100% sure it means the sons are the DIRECT sons of the one's on the respective thrones ...Rhaenera lost Luke so Daemon wants them to take out Aegon's son IF they can't find/take out Aemond ...thoughts?!!

Blood and Cheese is way more traumatic in the book, they forced Halaena to choose between two sons and then kill the one she wanted to save---While they were awake.

I'm not switching sides either, Rhaenyra is not evil to ok that they killed a toddler, she said Aemond her haft brother, the last thing she wants is to involved innocent children that they don't know what is going on and now Daemon makes things worst. And Cole, i don't get cole, he didn't want to be Rhaenyra whore and yet here he is with Alicent.
In the book Blood and Cheese were way worse. This was tame compared to it. it also had all 3 of her kids in it.
They had infiltrated the room. Blood grabs the oldest son (Prince Jaehaerys), while Cheese grabs the youngest son (Prince Maelor). They proceed to ask her which son she wanted to keep, and threaten to kill everyone in the room if she screamed. She tried pleading with them, and they threatedn to grape her daughter if she didn't pick. She ended up picking Maelor for them to kill because he was the youngest and was too young to understand what was happening to him. They ended up killing Jaehaerys instead, and cheese told Maleor that he needs to remember that him mother wanted him dead.
Before anyone start coming for me, I was just referenceing the book. I didn't say I didn't like what the showrunners did. I understand whhy they did it the way they did, ecpecially because of the depiction of harming children on screen.
I've had people come for me thinking I'm a book purist when i'm just stating what happened.
Did Blood and Cheese were confused between the Queen and the Queen Dowager ?
I supposed they are not refined enough to make a distinction between the two. Plus the need to act quickly could have been a part of their hasty decision.
This scene exists also in the book but it’s a second son of Aemon who is killed. Plus they did it in Aliscent’s rooms after they tied and gag her waiting for her daughter to come as is her routine to make her kids bid their good night.
Aliscent and Cole relationship is not even a thing in the book. Which means they write this for audiences interest only.

This portion of martin's story is called Blood and Cheese, named after the assassins. In the original story, the mother is forced to choose between two SONS, and she chooses the death of the older child, thinking the younger is too young to remember the trauma. the assassins choose the other and inflict trauma on the remaining child. and he knows his mother chose him for death. so it's a double screw. also, in the show, there was a cutaway from daemon's face when he was asked what should they do if they can't find Aemond. so did Daemon tell them to get a son, any son? you decide....
Remember this we got a toned down version of blood n cheese. This still was shocking tho but my man if u yall read the books. The blood n cheese part was way worse. The similarly is making her pick which lives. She picks her youngest thinking he is too young to understand. So they told the yougest "you hear that boy your mum wants you dead". N slits the throat of the oldest in front of the mom. She watched as her eldest grasp for what life he had left b4 blood cuts his head off. The mother breaks down. Refusing to eat, sleep, and bath. The books was rough.

Just watched the episode yesterday and I gotta say I was a little disappointed they didn't begin the episode with Rhaenyra right where it ended last season. I really wanted to see her reaction right after she was told about her son being killed by the hand of Aemon, and they didn't show it.
