Rhaenyra sent her sons as messengers, messengers have immunity and shouldn’t be harmed. Thats why Baratheon protected Lucerys when Aemond was tryna start a fight with him.This was on Aemond, not Rhae.
This! Luke was sent as a messenger. Same as Otto coming to dragon stone to deliver terms to Rhaenyra in that same episode. He was allowed to leave with his life, Luke wasn’t. The entire point is that the greens broke terms first and killing a messenger who is supposed to have immunity and pass unharmed, something that is very bad in Westeros. That’s why the Black’s held the moral high ground in the initial aftermath of Luke’s death. Because Aemond had become a kinslayer and he slew his own nephew while he was acting as a messenger who was not supposed to be harmed in that role. But Daemon then lost them that high ground by also killing family.
But Aemond jumpstarted the war.

@@laileleneirose7966 I agree with you and the OP, but moral high ground aside, they should've considered the reality of things. the Journey to Storm's End is crossing enemy's territory, King's landing/the Crownland is right by it. Didn't they think the Greens would've secured a foothold there?. They should've sent Rhaenys to storm's end. Her being far more experienced than Luke in both flying a dragon and diplomatic mission.
She could've sent Rhaenys who was was actually related to him and had Luke patrol, sent Daemon or have gone herself.

Blood and Cheese was way more brutal in the books. When the assassins get to Helena's chambers they tie her and Alicent up. They ask Helena to pick which of her sons they kill - the 6 year old Jaehaerys or 3 year old Maelor. Jaehaerys was the main target from the get go (not Aemond), they only gave her the illusion of a choice to torture her. When she refuses to pick they threathen her with raping her 6 year old daughter so she picks Maelor, hoping he'd be too young to understand what is happening. Blood then whispers into Maelor's ear "You hear that boy? Your mama wants you dead" and strikes off the head of Jaehaerys instead.

@@Aaron_Guest 1. story reasons - fire and blood (the book) is basically one big story told from memory by characters known to exaggerate events, not to mention it's been going from mouth to mouth for so long that it's very likely reached the point where various events depicted in it are far from the truth and I think the original blood and cheese is clearly exaggerated
2. you can't just put rape and murder of almost infant babies on TV with full visuals and expect the show to air normally

The intro is the history of House Targaryen - the Doom of Valyria, the Targaryen Conquest of Westeros, King Maegor dying on the Iron Throne, King Jaehaerys and Queen Alysanne's golden age, the Great Council of Harrenhal which we saw in the first episode, the beginning of the Dance of Dragons with the two factions on different sides of the table, Aegon and Rhaenyra on their thrones on opposite sides and then Lucerys and Arrax being killed by Aemond and Vhagar which started the civil war.

Rhaenys did have a good reason to not kill the Hightowers in season 1...she didn't declare for anyone at that time lol. Her plan was to just stay away from the conflict, and told Rhaenyra what the Hightowers did out of respect for her cousin. That explains the dragon scene during Aegon II's coronation.
She only sided with the Blacks after her discussion with Corlys about Rhaenyra. Even Corlys thought they were going back home with their grandchildren, until Rhaenys convinced him to side with the queen.
Aegon and Aemond actually have another brother called Daeron who should be a year younger then Aemond
Daeron is the same age as Jacaerys. Not 1 year younger but 4 years younger.

Some people are disappointed in Helaena's reaction. I think that because of her dreams, she knew it was coming. And if she made them go for the girl they would have went for the other too once they realized and killed both. It explains why she stayed in their room to watch over them instead of going to hers, she wasn't supposed to be there. She seemed defeated and disappointed because she wasn't able to make people take her warnings seriously, if she did and was more assertive, this might have been avoided.

Note vassals envoys and messengers are like supposed to be safe. Especially when noble blood because the expectation is other houses would do the same for you, when you enter another's home unarmed.
And also there were no guards on the entire floor because Criston sent them off so they couldn't be caught smashing
Rhaenyra sent Lucerys as a messenger. Messengers are granted immunity by law and are not to be harmed. That's why Otto Hightower was allowed to walk away when he went to Rhaenyra at the end of the last season. Rhaenyra didn't think the greens would harm him and in that jumpstart a war. Granted, Aemond most likely didn't actually intend to kill Lucerys as he very obviously lost control over Vhagar in that moment but eventually that doesn't matter. He killed a messenger with his Dragon who also happens to be his kin which is double the violation.

Well Criston was in Alicent, a couple guards with the King in th Throne Room, and Larys “fired” a bunch of the Red Keep staff. Also at least 2 of the Kingsguard abandoned the Hightowers (the Commander and the twin)

3:54 still can’t believe Arya killed the night king. It should’ve been Jon snow it was literally built into his story arc.
Blood & Cheese was a lot more darker in the book then what they showed, but the tension leading up to that moment was still great. Also we got a name drop in the epsiode for Dalton Greyjoy aka the Red Kraken😈, but they'll probably save his appearance for season 3. I'm just hoping we see the lads & bloody ben this season along with my girl Black Aly !! 💯🙏
I enjoy most of the characters no matter what side they’re on. I’m on Team Black because Daemon is. But the acting is so great from on all sides. Just that makes me love it.
Everyone seem to forget all those secret passage ways throughout the castle. They deep in and out
Alicent was not mad at Rheanyra for simply sleeping with Criston Cole, she was mad because Rheanyra showed that she isn't willing to put her own indulgences in check for anyone. Even when indulging herself could mean the end of someone elses life. After Cole tells Alicent what happend Alicent immediately makes the connection that to Rheanyra, her desires come first. This is further compacted by Rheanyra bringing 3 Strong bastards to Viserys and Alicent, for them to be recognized as "legitimate" Targaryen princes over the years that followed that incident. Alicent and Cole have formed a real relationship, hell Sir Criston is shown more in a fatherly light towards Aegon and Aemond as well compared to Viserys when he was still around. This is the first time we have seen Alicent indulge herself, but the key difference here is that it is a 2 way street between her and Criston, plus Alicent has squared away and accomplished most of her responsibilities as Queen. She married Viserys, had and raised his children and is now a widow, while still attending to the legal matters of the realm without hiccup. She is not some young impulsive princess who is jeprodizing a strong claim to succession by damaging her maidenhood before being able to CHOOSE her own husband. Alotta people also forget the fact that Alicent had to endure Viserys' taking of her body throughout that marriage, while Rheanyra had the ability to choose her husband from the start but then shot herself in the foot. So the whole angle of "wasnt she mad cause she smashed him too" is shallow and mute.

I agree about your pov regarding Alicent but I think Sir Criston is doing it, like his interest on her and the boys are not genuine, he's doing it to get back at Rhaenyra... A silly fool who loved her and never got over the fact that she played him. She was wrong but I believe the friendship between both of them was genuine. He could have left it at that, but his love for Rhaenyra was too deep that he still hasn't let go and he would do anything to make her feel the hurt he felt when she played him. I wouldn't be surprised if at some point in the future they met again and she would be clever enough to led him into a trap because truly, he loves her and that would also be another reason for Alicent to hate on Rhaenyra 😂😂 I can see it already...

That's why now that Viserys is gone she's doing it in Rhaenyra's old room with Rhaenyra's old bf. She wants what Rhaenyra has/had. That's why she's convincing herself that viserys wanted Aegon on the Throne; so she can take that from rhaenyra too. Honestly alicent is a Narc, and other narcs identify with her hence we have team green. Y'all think like babies lol "Rheanyra has it, I should have it too 😤" this is pathetic. What did rhaenyra have to do with alicent marrying Viserys ? " Alicent and Cole have formed a real relationship, hell Sir Criston is shown more in a fatherly light towards Aegon and Aemond as well compared to Viserys when he was still around. " they bonded over hating Rhaenyra. Alicent was the queen and she wasn't vulnerable hence why they were bullying the hell out Rhaenyra in episode 6 of season one. 10 year later and Cole still hate Rhaenyra. for what ? that girls doesn't care for him and he cares about her still. He still loves her, he doesn't like Alicent or else he would've offert to run away and stop doing it with her. Final thought ; Rhaenyra's sons might be bastards but they have more honor and dignity than Alicent psychotic kids could ever have.
@TheKimzer Rheanyra never tried, nor did she handle any of her responsibilities to the degree of an Alicent, Aemond, Otto, or even Daemon. Hell Aegon is showing better natrual leadership tendencies than Rheanyra by actually wanting to help a peasant. He didn't think about tryna give dude his sheep back, meanwhile Rheanyra upon sneaking out the Keep with Daemon, said she don't give a damn about what the small folk say or think because they are not important. The problem with Rheanyra is that she is a spoiled princess who believes she is supposed to be Queen while scoffing at the responsibilities that come with it. She could have prevented this war multiple times, especially if she just came clean about her kids and legitimized them. They would have been safe and set for life while still enjoying the perks of being royalty. The reason Rheanyra did not do this is because it would have killed any strength her weakened claim had left. She cares more about indulging herself rather than keeping people around her, as well as her own family safe. This is what Alicent saw in her after finding out what happened with Criston, who was about to kill himself after beings seduced into risking his life for a rebound fling, when he thought his connection with the princess was genuine. Rheanyra is absolutely no good whatsoever for the realm if she were in power. She just doesn't have the tact, deamonor, or mind of a quality ruler.

You’re so very wrong. Daemon is the one who fucks everyone up. Aemond is a dollar tree wanna be of Daemon. Period. And she’s not dumb for sending Lucerys to Stormsend. It wasn’t as far of a trip and Lord Baratheon had sworn allegiance to her, she thought her son would be safer there than sending him to travel farther. And Aemond might have “accidentally” killed Luke, but Vhagar didn’t. Dragons have not just physical bond but an emotional one as well. Vhagar KNEW Aemond wanted retribution and gave it to him. Aemond wanted Luke dead but for a split second realized the consequences of his actions. He has no remorse for what he did.
And side note that it’s pretty much Criston & Alicent’s fault the heir to the throne died. Had they not been bumping literal ugly’s then Criston would’ve been on duty, as he should’ve been. I think the driving force behind a lot of his aggressive nature and determination this season will be to make up for the fact the blood of the son of the King is quite literally on his hands. And I think Alicent will feel such guilt that she’ll turn mad with vengeance to attempt to make it up to Helaena & Aegon, knowing she never can. I’m excited to see though if they’ll catch Blood or Cheese as they do in the book. Although I felt the actual scene was underwhelming because in the books Helaena pleads and cries and begs for the lives of her children. She also had three children in the book not two twins. So I wonder if she’ll have another child in this season OR if she could already be pregnant OR if they’ll just omit Meagor altogether
Last thing - I also think Alicent will grow to resent Aemond EVEN MORE now because it’s his fault Rhaenyra & Daemon wanted revenge in the first place. Had Aemond not killed Luke they wouldn’t have sent Blood & Cheese:

The main issue with Blood & Cheese in the show is the lack of emotion and fear from Helaena, not the lack of violence. There so many ways that scene could’ve been shot without showing children being harmed, while still emphasizing the emotional torment of it.
It's the shitty arc they've given her TV show character of being emotionally distanced from everyone. I understand they've made her autistic on purpose but I know autistic people who love their siblings and love their children. In the book Helaena's children are very dear to her, the only real happiness she had - which is what drove her mad in the end
