When the judge ask people what happened, they take all year to answer the question and then get outside and say "i didnt get a chance to speak", or "I didnt get a chance to show my evidence" lol what
The thing is, the plaintiff wanted to drone on and on about irrelevant stuff instead of just answering the judge's questions. I'm sure that's what she means when she says she didn't get a chance to speak. I remember once on Judge Judy, a litigant was telling practically her whole life story, and Judge Judy shut her down and told her 'Just answer my questions.' The litigant said 'Well, I'd like to tell it in my own way', and Judge Judy said 'Well, you can't! JUST ANSWER MY QUESTIONS!' 🤣

Maybe that's how it works in America, but in Canada, if you own a house and rent it out to tenants ,,, it's still YOUR house, it belongs to you. Hereabouts you don't get to own property because you pay rent, you have to have what we call a mortgage to own property or buy it outright.
The plaintiff is the type of person that loves to go argue with employees at grocery stores just to call the manager to get free stuff. I've seen it happened MILLION times before.
she was probably talking about the tone and not necessarily the verbatim used. Some landlords talk to people like they're children, it's one of many reasons why so many turn around & buy a house.
She was expecting it to be like when your Parents tell you “this is your house too and you are expected to help keep it up” then you move out one day because it really wasn’t your house too.
The lady was on section 8 trust that landlord was charging way more than $485. That $485 was after she received $1000 minimum from HUD. I believe the tenant told her about the leak just like she sent her a fix it list every month. That landlord was pissed because it was eating into her profits. Also, that landlord is double dipping because when a house is damaged section 8 will reimburse the landlord for any damage especially in Florida. 9x of 10 that house was in the hood.
My friend has multiple properties in California and sec 8 never has reimbursed him for damaged property from bad tenants, they only pay him for the portion of rent that tenants can’t cover, plus they dictate to owner and tenants any contracts , up keep and eviction proceedings. He had to sue multiple people for rent and and damages. Sec 8 only covers rent at market value , meaning if area had homes renting at 2k a month sec 8 guarantees landlord portion of that 2k tenants can’t make, same for deposit. What tenants can pay is negotiating when they applied for assistance.
The defendant tried her best to give her testimony, the house was very nice before the plaintiff moved in, she was a tenant that didn’t care. Period. She shouldn’t have gotten anything back,
@@Spankmepink swear! Ppl think they can keep/take money from others just bc they have a stink attitude or outlook on life. You keep to cover the cost. To be made whole. Lol
Looking at the defendants before pictures tells me she was NOT a “slumlord.” People are always these names when they can’t get over on someone. I couldn’t see myself renting to anyone on section 8 like that. The uncaring attitude for someone else’s property is appalling!
I was on section 8 years ago for several years. I always kept the house clean and was clean when I moved out. Same with my sister when she was on it. Not all section 8 tenants are bad people. They just get a bad rap because of those that are like that. Just like everything else in life bad apples make it hard for good apples.
Everyone one on section8 isn't like that , they actually take pride in taking care of other's property and the extra help paying rent . Its extremely unprofessional for landlords to place every tenant in the same boat . That's like me saying all landlords are sumlords and don't wanna take care of their own property MOST TIMES. They don't live there so they could careless as long as they get that rent !!
These cases are so educational. Rule 1 in today's lessen: be organized & clear if there's a problem. Rule 2: take photos each time something needs to be fixed. Rule 3: mind your manners👀 be polite.
JM is so crabby sometimes. She just escalates the tone in the courtroom when she gets mad before they can answer. “What did the lawn repair cost?” Then she interrupted her with another question before she could answer and yells at her for not listening. 🙄
I agree sometimes actually most times she sets all shouty and screaming for no reason and speaks to people awful when they are not speaking awful to her she has a serious attitude problem sometimes I think it's just for the show.
I rent and I treat this as if it is mine. Be faithful with the little and God will give you much. My apartment complex provides free filters for the hvac, but they are the cheap ones and I care about the health of my family so I purchase ones more expensive ones that help with allergen reduction, dust etc. My husband and I did small updates like the shower and kitchen faucet that change the quality of our living and also look good. I know some people feel as though if it is not theirs they have no need to care for it.
I would call maintenance if something is needed that way they can document everything and making your own adjustments to a property like remodeling when renting is a big no no without permission
@@payableondeath9091 yep because it has to be the exact way it was given to you. I seen people replace fixtures with nicer newer ones and then end up having it taken out of their deposit because the landlord wants it back to the way it was
I could never be a landlord. Owning a home is a lot of responsibility..and on top of that dealing with entitled people ..no thank you. Buy your own house and see what happens when things break. No landlord to call..just a hugeee bill to pay.
Landlord is lucky that she was able to get the lady out of property. My brother had a tenant who complained every time rent was due. He would send people over to fix items, (many that were her doing)and repair people wouldn’t want to come back because tenant was nasty and uncooperative . It was a small town with few resources and my brother was 3 hours away. He finally had to evict her because she tried suing him for a fall she had on a gravel driveway and she stopped paying rent. She lost her case for the fall , he won his case for eviction but she wouldn’t leave taking him to court again, he put house up for sale and court gave he 3 day notice ( this was 1 year after first eviction) to vacate and sheriff had to physically remove her. She left the place a mess and even took some appliances and broke things like toilet and sinks. He cut his losses and sold property at a loss but still hasn’t received a 10k settlement against her for rent and other costs.
Judge Milian is way off on this one. She was so snotty with the defendant. We were supposed to get sod and it is expensive. I hate when she's in a bad mood and she ends up being snippy with the wrong person.
my mom always taught me you always leave the apartment you rent the way you receive it. Dont ever leave it dirty and nasty you don't want your ex landlord to think your dirty and irresponsible. Even if they are a slum or asshole landlord. Thank you mom
I swear!!! I would never give anyone a reason to say I’m a dirty person. Besides we have to live in the home why destroy it and live in a messy home. Makes no sense.
Why don't these new landlords check with the old landlords to actually see what type of tenant they are before allowing any move-in (CHECK THEIR CHARACTER FIRST) 💯
The plaintiff is a piece of work and is one of those people that thinks everyone owes her something look like the plaintiff destroyed the place and probably didn't keep the place clean.
I had a tenant…begged me to rent to her…got in there and tried to F my place up…finding all kind of ish so that she didn’t have to pay rent! When she left she stole my washer and dryer! Never again. 😡🤬
She is a good judge but I think age is playing a number on her. I can't stand how she is so on edge, ready to over talk litigants. Like a Chihuahua. Is extremely unpleasant to watch.
Judge Marilyn was condescending and snarky. The defendant was well prepared with evidence. I don't think she got the treatment she deserved. The plaintiff claimed she didn't get a chance to speak. She was nasty and full of it.
I agree... Marilyn was a beotch today... absolutely no respect! Anyone could clearly see the house was brand new when the ghetto section 8 trash moved in and left it in such disrepair and dirty... just cause you are living off the taxpayer doesn't mean you can live like a pig.
Just like the defendant said “My House” It’s her responsibility to make sure she follows up and makes sure certain things are done. These new generation landlords are lazy and want to tenants to be responsible for everything. And the tenants these days don’t care. They say “It’s not my house. There was no significant loss or damage and thats why the plaintiff got most of her deposit back.

She was incredible hostile and disrespectful and I’m not the only person who took that perspective. Don’t come at me trying to be condescending. Cause I’m WAY better at it than you.
I thought Section 8 paid the entire rent, with no money payable by the tenant - if a landlord takes a Section 8 tenant, whatever Section 8 determines is the maximum amount for that kind of property, they give the landlord is the most the landlord can have - they can’t coerce, force, strong arm or whatever tenants to make up any “shortfall” between the going rate set by Section 8 and the asking price set by the landlord - if the landlord wants $600 a month, but Section 8 assess it at $400 a month, they get the lower amount only - that’s how housing benefit used to be over here until Universal Credit took over - properties are also assessed for how many tenants can comfortably occupy the property - if they turn a family home into two dwellings, and it’s big enough to rent like that, they also have to install separate meters for each dwelling, if they don’t include utilities in the rent!
I have been a section 8 tenant for many years. I have never trashed my place at all. I personally know people that aren't on Section 8 who are horrible tenants
The litigants were both talking all over the judge and not answering her very specific questions. Some judges would dismiss a whole case just for that..
@@Esperanto77 oh please! She does this a LOT on her show with being disrespectful to her litigants! Without them, there would be no show! Smh she should humble herself and allow people to speak instead of cutting them off all the time! This ain’t the first time.

She could just be having a bad day she was extra snippy from the very beginning of this case but I don't see her being this way overall all the time Unless the people are just stupid
I hope you know that section 8 pays these landlords probably way more than they would get at market rent. Just because the tenant is not paying all of it out of pocket, doesn’t mean that the landlord should provide less if she was.
Looked fair to me! And she was very direct! Impatient yes but treated them bad no! They need to learn how to answer questions and listen for comprehension not to respond! Not even listening to the judge just ready to speak 🗣 that’s how a lot of ppl do when they just wanna argue and be heard but not listen and understand the next
The judge was thorough and fair (as always). In these situations it's always about providing proof. The tennant claimed that while she was there she was always unhappy - people like her will be unhappy even if living in a mansion rent free with a butler and chef on call. The most extreme example of this is when guests on an ocean cruise complain that the elevator buttons haven't been wiped since it was last used because they can see finger prints - believe me - if there is reincarnation then they will come back as a one armed beggar in the worst neighborhood in the poorest city in the world
A responsible renter lets the landlord know when there is an issue with the property. It is the landlords investment property, it needs to be maintained. I've been both a landlord and a renter. That landlord wasn't nasty at all, the apartment looked beautiful before the defendant moved in.
Judge was very lenient! If it was just this would’ve ended in 5 minutes or less! Glad to see judge takes time to hear them but is firm when they start to get carried away and talking over each other! Wasting time!
I think JM got it right. Plaintiff was irritated with Defendant constantly “talking down” to her and saying it was ‘Plaintiff’s house’, which it was. But the homeowner has to step up and take responsibility for maintenance that tenants will likely not do. It just complicated things to expect tenants to do all of the homeowners duties. I’ve worked with landlords and property managers. If you are charging top dollar for rent, be prepared to step up and just take care of certain things because it is YOUR property. Of course, tenants who are just irresponsible and destructive deserve to be docked. Just do due diligence be careful who you rent to!
I wouldn't consider $445 a month top dollar to rent a house, but even if it is, it was in her lease to take care of the lawn & small repairs, but the homeowner still paid for the plumber when it was the tenant putting baby wipes down, the homeowner sent the hvac repairman when the tenant complained. So I think the homeowner was responsible.
I love this show it always cracks me up millions of people watch this show and yet they all want to get on here and prove their case thinking they're going to break the bank knowing good and well that it's going to end up just like everybody else that's ever been on this show a fair judgment on everyone's behalf it's hilarious lol
She starting to become like judge Judy but honestly, it’s probably because she deals with too many cases like these and already knows what they’re gonna say. Just like cases that are about final sales or “as is”. You took your chances and bought a used car “as is” you can’t go complaining about it later and expect your money back. It’s as is, what don’t people get. Hope that makes a little sense.
They don't answer the right question. They get off on a tangent about the narrative they're pushing instead of answering her questions. They both did it. They both were annoying.
If I were renting out a home, lawn maintenance would be included in the rental amount. You can't rely on the residents to access lawn care .. A lawn maintenance service would be hired on a scheduled basis and the amount would be included in the rental payment. The lease can reflect lawn maintenance included in an addendum. ..A lot of this case was the discontent between plaintiff and defendant.

The litigants argued and discussed the damages, and renovation costs, and the judgement was given based on what they said. The judgment was just and fair. I would say to the landlord - your probably going to get real criminals as tenants in the future- people move in their boyfriends, and many tenants refuse to leave without an eviction. The landlord is very fortunate that that did not occur in this situation.
This is what blows me, sections8 tend to pick the most disrespectful people to help. A lot of people I know who has sections8 are dirty and mistreats the apartment.
Section 8 tenants are the worst. Every landlord/tenant case involving Section 8 is the house being torn up. People living in public housing don't year up the apartments like Section 8.
@@shrutefarms4741 not everyone on section 8 is like that (been there at some point in my life) We knew we had to stay there so kept it pretty well kept. I do agree that people think they are entitled to free stuff.
The housing authority should have a form that a section 8 tenant must sign stating that they cannot vacate the unit or home without paying all expenses and balances owed. The landlord signs the form stating that the home is in good standard and all balances have been met. Also, inspectors are sent out each year when it's time to renew. All section 8 tenants are not like this. I have a friend that wasn't on section 8 that tore up the landlord house. I told her it's a shame. Stop using section 8 to call out nasty people. the judge is somehow holding it against the def for having proof of her continuously breaking crap. the last time she broke the plumbing it was her fault, pretty positive its the same deal
I have a friend who lived an her apartment for years with so many issues... Terrible water pressure, clogged pipes.. and granted she probably could have fixed some of these issues but it was gross and if I was the owner on the property I'd want to know so I can fix it and it wouldn't cost me more down the line. When pipes get clogged they eat away at the pipe then that causes a leak and then damage, mold and now you have to replace pipes, drywall, paint. It's wild.
She's full of crap when she said no tennant takes as good care as the landlord. I've always treated my unit Better than what my landlord ever would. I clean, repair, prime and paint before I move in, on my dime. My current apartment I put in new carpeting, cleaned, repaired, primed and put 3 coats of finish paint on every wall and ceiling. I've installed all new wall outlets, switches, kitchen and bathroom fixtures as well as retiling the bathroom. I've never lost a deposit of anykind.

I'm guessing before this case started the Judge had some personal issues going on in her family with one of her kids, her husband made her mad, or maybe it was PMS. But then again at the time of this case she was in her late 50's so PMS should have be over by then. But not matter what it's never good to go to work in a bad mood. True, you can't rely on a tenant to change the air filters. In my last apartment, I HATED that the landlord would schedule maintenance every three months (once a season) to replace the air filters. It was annoying, but I appreciated it since I didn't have to replace it myself. In my apartments before that one, I was always responsible for replacing the filter myself, and sometimes you just forget to it. Good advice by the judge. The tenant seems to be somewhat of a bad dream, but not a total nightmare. The tenant caused a lot of problems, but at least she paid her rent on time. Neither of them were perfect, but I think the landlord probably should get out of the real estate business if she can't keep her cool around these type of tenants.

Exactly. What slumlord sends repair people when you tell them something is broken?!
Everyone one on section8 isn't like that , they actually take pride in taking care of other's property and the extra help paying rent . No private landlord are the best !

I'm not even a landlord and I would never rent a newly renovated unit to a section 8 tenant.

Part of the upkeep of a house you're renting is changing the filters.

If there are issues in the home...the tenant has to report it yo section 8 and section 8 gives the landlord a certain amount of time to get it done. It's apart of the contract! The tenant should have reported her issues to her housing authority... Not sit and complain or be unhappy. Any damages made by the tenant is due by the tenant. I will always go over the TAA Lease with new residents, and give them copies for situations as this. But I always go above and beyond for maintenance issues to avoid 💩 like this.
I own both luxury and non-luxury units… I have the exact opposite experience. Those not on programs and in my luxury units seem to value their money more and take accountability. They pay in advance of the 1st in full consistently. And I’m talking $3000+ a month rent. Not all, but more of the tenants on programs and with subsidies feel landlord owe them something and complain the most and leave the places the nastiest and in the most disrepair. They feel entitled for some reason, nitpick and blame landlord when they break stuff. And God-forbid they are late in rent, they won’t tell you if they need a repair until that $20 job turns into a $200 job or that $200 job turns into a $2000 job. Sucks. (Disclaimer… not all subsidized tenants are like this)
@@ayanamuhammad6870 welp that’s ur experience
You know what most landlords takes all your deposit in they make things up to keep it she full of BS PERIOD
I'm guessing before this case started the Judge had some personal issues going on in her family with one of her kids, her husband made her mad, or maybe it was PMS. But then again at the time of this case she was in her late 50's so PMS should have be over by then. But not matter what it's never good to go to work in a bad mood. Because you end up taking it out on "innocent" people who have nothing to do with your personal problems. Especially when your in a position of authority because you end up making really bad choices that effect other peoples lives in a negative way.
No. As someone actually in law school, that’s not why she was irritated at all. But all you armchair “experts” who think you know how it works-especially ones who are angry to see a powerful, assertive female judge-like to talk out of yo ur asses here. It’s nothing to do with PMS, you chauvinist shit.
The PMS comment...😂😂😂
Before and after photos, receipts, documentation on everything. This is so important and should be common sense.
the judge seems to be an expert on rental issues 😮😮
Wow... Everyone had an attitude
People ramble when they’re trying to obfuscate the answer, and attempting to figure out where the judge was going with their questions while they’re talking instead of just answering the questions.
You can tell the difference between nervousness and tap-dancing around the truth.
They just reminded me to change my filter.
Plaintiff is a self entitled person that wants EVERYTHING for free...😳
These titles are always so hilariously enticing 🤣
And the petty announcer to introduce the plaintiff/ defendant
