Her daughter is not helping her by validating her delusions. She needs to get her mother help, the time when she can’t live independently is near. Especially if someone doesn’t get through to her about her memory or substance issues. If she comes to accept she is making these errors she can put systems in place and be independent for some time, but the longer her daughter puts off helping her, the longer her mother will spend in care.
I honestly think the daughters mother has some type of mental illness going on, and her drinking isn’t helping her alone with whatever pills she’s taking while drinking. I feel as though her daughter wanted to ask the judge what could she do in regards to helping her mother but she wouldn’t allow her to speak. I feel bad for this lady she’s a beautiful older woman I hope her daughter gets her the help and treatments needed to live a normal life she’s forgotten a lot of stuff
I was saying the same thing. You can clearly see some memory issues here. Stashing money in different places in the house and labeling how much and the date is a clear sign that she knows something isn't right with her own memory.
Exactly. Sadly, this exactly how my grandmother behaved when dementia crept in. She thought people were breaking in and stealing from her so she would rearrange stuff and hide her money and jewelry. Then she didn't remember doing THAT so she thought someone broke in AGAIN and stole that stuff. The gasket/rubber footy thing is an excellent example of pure paranoia. Her writing down amounts and dates shows at some point she was aware she was slipping. It's so subtle at first and they're so convincing that it takes a bit for the family to act. Once we moved my grandmother, we found little stashes of valuables everywhere. It'd still sad to think she truly believed she was being repeatedly robbed of all her precious things.
An employer lost a diamond tennis bracelet. She was ready to blame several people, the entire staff. It was found broken in the driveway. It fell off her skinny wrist😅 Then she said ppl weren't " doing their job", bc it wasn't found sooner!
Exactly the guy has been a criminal in the past and money doesn't just walk up and leave especially if you're drunk or taking pills the money is still has to be somewhere and it's not.
My roomie in college started accusing me of taking and/or moving her stuff around the room - I'd literally watch her move something then 2-3 hours later freak out on me that I touched her stuff. Her brother and mother were both schizophrenic and she was "so happy" she hadn't been diagnosed with it........uuuum I've got a newsflash for ya hun. But this woman sounds EXACTLY like her - she moved/hid her own stuff from paranoia, then blames others instead of considering she has an issue and needs help.
Her daughter really should try to get her help for what sounds like substance abuse issues. Working at a place like that can cause mental trauma and her drinking and pill popping could be a result of it. It's just really hard if the mom is in denial and thinks she doesn't have a problem. The system is jacked up so even if the daughter wanted to get her help (substance abuse or therapy) the only way to make her do it is to have her sanctioned, which isn't easy😔
Thats what I was going to say too. I think there r statistics abt correctional officers, incl the former ones, who basically have ptsd or something very similar to it.
I like how he had this whole binder with him and middle of the case when she kept digging her own grave, he just ended up closing it up and calling it a day lol. He basically knew he won when she explained she's often drunk + on pills + proved to be forgetful. Shame it almost seems like signs of dementia though.
On top of pills, hell yeah it’s a lot haha taking pills and one shot could seriously mess you up. And normally people that drink too much won’t admit HOW much they’re truly drinking. So lord only knows how messed up this woman’s getting every night lol
Mmmmh idk..very interesting case. My great grandmother had Alzheimer's back in the early 90s, I noticed how her behavior changed and she was always accusing someone of stealing something 🤦🏽 however I'm not understanding why the defendants family supported the idea of her having a stranger in her home as a room mate with her mental state. Criminals take advantage of people with illnesses and disabilities...If he did get over on this lady it will come back to him.
He did not get over on her .. listen to the stuff she claims.. a broken tv that she didn’t notice for weeks.. and nor did the police when they did a walk through , she said it was a huge fish tank and didn’t notice water on the wood floors , not carpet as carpet could soak it up.. said she was mopping knocked the vase over then it was broken so he had to have done it …
@@thecheshirecat299 I think she is probably mixing alcohol with Ambien and doing all this stupid stuff on her own. Been there, done that enough times and know better now. Hell, I've made myself dinner while on alcohol and Ambien and woke up with my hands with some burn marks on it and no memory of cooking or eating.
We can only hope. My mom is in assisted living and a worker stole money from 4 different people out of their purses. I guess the obvious thing to do is to keep money hidden or don't have cash in the house or put it in a safe.
@@getin3949 main point she has a fish tank that she claimed leaked water all over her wood floors for 30 days and didn’t notice a puddle of water because the house is so big.. for her not to notice means she never fed the fish of there was an actual leak or she would of noticed
She reminds me of my best friend's mom (back when I was in middle school). She liked me until she would drink an entire box of wine and pass out with her earrings still in. She would wake up and be missing one and blame me. I would be banned from the house until a day or two later when she would find the earring tangled in her pillows or sheets. She would never apologize. She would just act like nothing had happened. But when she did accuse me of taking her earrings, her reasoning would be that it was just the three of us (her, her daughter, and me) in the home, and she knows her daughter wouldn't take them, so it had to be me. I don't know what she thought I wanted with just one earring each time, especially since I didn't have my ears pierce yet. A few times, she would accuse me of stealing money. Very rarely. She would think that she put it on the table or in a purse and then when she woke up the next day, it wouldn't be where she thought she left it. I would be blamed and forced to leave. Then I would get a call a few hours later that I was allowed back over because she either found the money elsewhere or remembered that she put it in her lock box.
Ma'am why are you even leaving large amounts of money in common areas of the house with a virtually unknown roommate? I don't know if the plaintiff did it, but she needs to take accountability for her irresponsibility.
The more she talked the crazier she seems. This man is such a diabolical mad man that he removed a rubber pad from the fish tank causing a slight leak... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
Wow! She's serious about her claims😳. "I was mopping the floor and the vase fell over then I saw it was broken" 🤔...... just listening to her claims and that she's serious makes me think this woman needs some mental health help. And her daughter needs to STOP pacifing her mothers exaggerations and get her the help she needs.
My great-grandmother moved in with us when I was eight years old and immediately started causing all kinds of chaos. She owned half a dozen pairs of scissors, misplaced them all, and constantly accused my mother of having stolen them. Finally we'd had enough, and moved her to a senior living facility. When my brother, my dad and I were moving her furniture out of the room she occupied in our house, we found every single pair of scissors that she claimed had been stolen. If she'd had her way, my mother (or 'that dirty black thief' as Great-Grandma called her) would have been put behind bars. Of course, in my great-grandmother's case, it was senility. The defendant appears, to my uneducated eye, to be a paranoid schizophrenic.
No, I was married to and lived wit a paranoid schizophrenic for 32 years, she may have some dementia, but she doesn't have any signs of being schizophrenic.
My mom went through that, and I was told she had underlying and untreated mental illness coupled with dementia. The 2 fed of each other and wreaked havoc on everyone around her. I couldn’t do it anymore either. It’s incredibly hard on family when no one is there to help. And she would call the sheriffs department on me and have baking soda and other things tested signing papers stating I was trying to kill her. That was just the beginning.
My Grandfather has dementia. I would never put him in a home just because of the many demented accusations he makes when his memory fails him (although it can be frustrating). It isn't his fault he's sick.
Tech comment - "The hard drive is gone. You're gonna need a new one." Tech meaning - "The hard drive doesn't work anymore. It's dead." I'll bet this is how it went down and she interpreted it literally. Who would actually unscrew a box and pull out a hard drive? When he could have just thrown a battery over it or something. She is dangerously delusional.
The defendants daughter needs to help her mom…helping her with these cases and condoning her crazy is hurting her. Help your mom to stop drinking! Help her quit pills!🙏🏼
I had roomates (3) once when I was 19. That was a very long time ago. It was a nightmare. I worked outside the home, living at my job-site from Mon-Fri, so I was only home on the weekends. Someone would always be in my room while I was gone. Rumpled bed, pot missing...blah blah blah. Never again. Roomates are drama noooo one needs in their life. Frankly, this case is just nuts.
A former Corrections Officer at Rykers would immediately call the cops if a thief had scampered after being 'caught in the act'. If she didn't call at 6am then she had bigger reasons to avoid a meeting with the cops at the scene of the crime.
He would have to prove damages for defamation. Things like losing your job, losing business or the like. Some states allow for "slander per se" meaning you don't have to prove monetary damages, but a damage to your character or reputation. However, he likely does not have a good reputation or character to damage based on prior convictions.
I lost so many braincells from listening to the defendant's defense and lack of evidence for her claims. She was clinging onto anything as an excuse to keep the man's security desposit.
I feel for the defendant, my grandma had dementia and she accused everyone of stealing from her when she was hiding or giving away the money herself. The defendant seems to be showing the signs. I don't think the plaintiff did what she's accusing him of, but he ain't no angel, thats for sure.
I was thinking this not even that she’s a older lady why would she confront this man that could possibly do something to her this upsetting me seriously
I hope Valerie has received help for her opioid addiction. That was painful to watch and even more painful to see her daughter openly enabling her behavior.
The Defendant needs to stop Drinking and Popping Pills at the same time, like she admitted to doing during the evidence readings. This is why her timing and recollections of events are like all over the place and the attention span is like nonexistence.
Amen, I’ve had friends who went to the bar on Xanax and “lost” all their pills and money. They gave the pills away and took a bunch and paid for rounds of shots. Then in the morning blamed everyone else
Unfortunately, I don't agree with part of her verdict. I believe he DID have a defamation case against and should have been rewarded. She was going around the entire Village screaming that he was a thief, and he did this, and he did that. He should be gotten that part of his lawsuit againt her.
It's only defamation if she knew it was incorrect accusations and therefore doing it with malicious intent. She 100% believes what she's accusing him of because her mind isn't right (and her memory while impaired is worse). That's why the judge gave her notice that there's "no evidence" of the claims, so _moving forward_ if she makes the claims, she's been told better, and it _is_ proceeding with malicious intent. He then can re-sue for defamation at that point, and win.
While I do agree with you, that’s just a character trait of hers. I often can tell that if she’s being particularly harsh to some litigants for no apparent reason, she’s had rough/frustrating cases previously that day. Some days she seems to be in a bad mood, which we all have time to time. But like someone else had said, she wants straight answers from litigants. It’s her courtroom and she is the one in control. I also feel like the Judge already knows this case is ridiculous by reading the complaints and looking through the evidence beforehand, so that probably contributes to her no nonsense attitude.
I don't fully believe her but I feel like there might be a little truth in here. I feel like there was a situation where she caught him doing something and her being the (possibly drunk) paranoid mess that we see here started to blame everything on on him whether it made sense or not.
All that needs to be known was that she literally said she was mopping knocked the vase over on to the floor then it was broken so he had to have done it.
She has an interior home surveillance system. There should be a video of the dude taking the rubber thing out of the bottom of the fish tank or a video of him putting the purse in the pantry. The fact she doesn't have anything is staggering.
I would never leave my purse laying around. I hide stuff and forget where I hid it. If I had a roommate it would be horrible. I also lose my keys. Just wait…y’all all gonna see.
I "lose" stuff all the time and it's bc I forget where I put it. I live with 4 other people and not once have I ever considered one of them took anything. I'm forgetful and I know it. If that lady's taking meds, drinking alcohol and smoking weed, no wonder she has misplaced things, including money.
This lady does not need a tenant. Ever. Anyone that lives with her will be accused of stealing and breaking stuff. She’s probably done this before, to her own fam no less. She’s obviously nuts
This woman is insane! I keep my money in my purse or a drawer. All these hiding spots, pouches and notes? When you take on tenants and leave valuables out, you're asking for trouble.
I used to be like that lady, pills and liquor! I wish I'd had a scapegoat for all the things I lost and broke! Lady needs help, her daughter cannot enable her by feeding into the delusions.
This woman is one of the best examples and proof you should just live by yourself when you are nuts like this woman. She is seeing things and I feel sorry for this guy who lived with this nutbar.
This woman is impossible. I think she needs to stop with the liquor and the pills because I think she losing her mind. Weather she’s seriously losing it, or she thinks she can fool a judge just by saying “Oh he broke this. He stole that.” With no proof, she’s looney tunes.......
This one just stresses me out. My grandmother refuses to put her money in a bank and just stashes it in oh so secure places. When something comes up missing, we're all in trouble.....until she finds it. Sigh. This woman is giving me PTSD.
It's sad. And the fact that she doesn't know that she has a problem. By the way, about your grandmother, I don't really think you want to give away on the internet her hiding places for her money because someone who knows her could break into the home.
so there is a chance that she didn’t notice her fish tank was leaking for over a week of water on a wooden floor “cause the house is big” so I guess it was to big for her to go feed the fish either ….then a month later she was mopping knocked the vase over then it was broken so he did it ?? Come on
Never seen a defendant bury herself with her own evidence so fast. She is a scatterbrain and her daughter tried her best to keep her focused. Can’t believe she was a correctional officer, pills, booze and weed don’t they ever get tested?
I so want the defendant's daughter on my team. She is frantically searching through those pictures as if something somewhere is going to jump out like a Perry Mason moment and validate everything her mom says. She's a trooper. And YES YES YES, the squeegee made an appearance at the end! She's got such good grounds for an appeal for the squeegee damage!
18:16 “it fell over and that’s how I broke it.” While she’s fumbling over her words the truth came out. She very likely did it herself while mopping. That lady is insane and/or really wants that guy’s attention.
She sounds like my ex that would drink a 1/5 of whiskey every night & forget when he’d put things then accuse me of having whatever he was looking for.. & he would get angry over stupid small shit & slam & break things & forget about that too..
Question??? Anybody can answer why don't people have their proof together before they come to court. The daughter getting pictures flipping instead of having it together. That always makes me mad.
Answer: people who aren’t in the slightest way aware of legalities don’t know or understand that factual evidence/documents are required and within chronological order to help speed up the flow of the case. I’ve always thought, if ur suing someone don’t u think you’d have your ducks im order prior to court? I’ve represented myself(pro se) before and actually one when the other person had an attorney.
Some people aren’t as comfortable with confrontation as others. I believe defendant bc I AM her. I’ve caught hands in my purse (once) and said “what are you doing!” Then listened to the answer bc sociopaths are GOOD at this. I feel bad for her.
Don't know why the judge is shouting at her, you can tell she possibly has early signs of dementia. The woman genuinely believes what she is saying. Hits too close to home
Unfortunately, people in the early stages of dementia (or similar debilitating mental condition), that still are able to act almost normally most of the time, is very, very infuriating. You have to learn to deal with them, it's not a natural ability. H
Right! They get these big heads and get really disrespectful. She already made her mind up on who she was going to give some cash to the moment they walked in. She’s funny like that.
Could be that the mother is talking to her daughter about these allegations and the daughter is sympathetic and siding with her. That could lead to things being blowing out of proportion like this.
I don't understand why people say she's crazy. She just doesn't have any evidence so she lost her case..But suppose she is someone who doesn't know where she puts things, and he knows she's like that, he can take advantage of the situation to steal the money and then say she is confused. Every criminal takes advantage of an opportunity. I myself also doubt her story, but to say she is crazy...meh.
Once she said she's been drinking and taking pills for years, immediately you can tell any credibility her words had previously just shriveled up and died. She doesn't seem entirely mentally present to begin with, she needs help.

I don't think she is "lying". I think she wholeheartedly believes everything she is saying is 100% the truth. I'm not saying it's the truth - but I definitely believe that she thinks it is.
Alcohol & pill problem will do that to a person’s memory & cognitive abilities.
One thing I find very interesting is that she found her purse in the pantry 30 DAYS after he moved out ... don’t think he broke in to place her purse in the pantry. 🤣
I think she means "he hid it" in the pantry and it was only discovered 30 days after he moved. If it was in plain sight it would have been noticed during the police walk through... I believe she hid it there herself in a drunken state. that or she fabricated finding it in there.
Sounds like she hid it from herself
if he was stealing 900 dollars and more money from her then he would not have needed to sue her for a 850 deposit . in fact if he was stealing all that money and still living there then i think he would have stayed there and kept stealing from her to keep getting that easy money . so its obvious that the defendant made it up so that she would not have to return his deposit , she had the motive to lie .
He hid the purse after stealing the money. Should he take it bck to his room & hide it there?
@@MyGoodenessGracious She found it 30 days after he left so if he had stashed it in the pantry while he was living there she would’ve found it way before then
Her daughter is not helping her by validating her delusions.
@@JM-cx6ze Agree
What does the fish tank have to do with the case,,,,
The daughter is very professional & articulate, but totally delusional when it comes to the mother, who obviously has early stage dementia.
I don’t know about dementia. I would think pills, alcohol and pot would also effect her memory! Geesh, that’s A LOT OF CRAP on her brain!! 😂😂

Wow that’s interesting 🤔
I agree with you. She hid her stuff while drunk.
I feel bad for the defendant. I feel like her working at Rikers Island messed up her mind. I hope her daughter helps her and continues to support her.
Totally agree. I can't imagine working in that hell hole.
Yes working with inmates full time will f*** you up
Her daughter really should try to get her help for what sounds like substance abuse issues.
I was thinking literally the same.
Why did she leave money all over the house when she had a safe? Something’s wrong here
she has some mental illness and her answer to every thing has become he must have done it.
And she said 'I do that cuz I live alone'... she didn't live alone tho.
There's always something wrong with any story a woman tells. Generally it's full of lies.
Why would she leave money all over the house with a roommate living in her home....???.....

The daughter is really having trouble finding that one picture that will prove the case 😂
It's because she a filthy pill popping alcoholic idiot. Of course he didn't do it! She's an addict that seems to blame everything on everyone else.

The defendant appears, to my uneducated eye, to be a paranoid schizophrenic.
my ex is like this.
YOUR mother wouldn't have gone to prison for 6 pair of scissors,
My Grandfather has dementia. I would never put him in a home just because of the many demented accusations he makes when his memory fails him (although it can be frustrating). It isn't his fault he's sick.

You have to have damages caused by what was said to collect money for defamation.
He would have to prove damages for defamation. Things like losing your job, losing business or the like. Some states allow for "slander per se" meaning you don't have to prove monetary damages, but a damage to your character or reputation. However, he likely does not have a good reputation or character to damage based on prior convictions.

She needs to quit mixing her pills with alcohol. It is clearly messing with her head!
