LOTUS Elise V8 Hayabusa || VS || Longest HillClimb in EUROPE

  • With Over 17.3 Kilometres, finishing at over 1640 metres of Altitude, 8.8% of Elevation gradient and coutless turns and hairpins, this is Trento-Bondone, located in the North of Italy connecting Montevideo (in Trento) and Vason (in Bondone), and is pretty much the European counterpart to Pikes Peak and possibly with an even crazier Layout!!
    Today we discover the legendary Italian Hillclimb onboard the spectacular Lotus Elise V8 by Michl Motorsport and driven by Dan Michl. Using the Elise/Speedster chassis at its core, it is from that point on, a highly modified beast, with the most notable feature being the unique engine used. Powered by a Hartley V8 unit in Naturally Aspirated form, it is capable of 430Hp/11.000Rpm. This unique engine is built by "fusing" 2 Suzuki Hayabusa Engine heads all mated to a totally custom Engine block, making this Dry-Sumped motor one of the lightest and most competitive V8 blocks ever. And here it finds the perfect "home", in this mid-engined, 730Kg, carbon fibre body which has been developed for wll over a decade now and leaving its mark in European Hillclimb Racing just as long.

    Such a tough course with very little room for error. These drivers are in another class, I can't imagine having to memorize all of that and then running through it at full tilt. I love the Radical V8 setup. Suzuki needs to put out a car based on that setup. Suzuki needs to give the american market another shot.

      Sadly if its not a 8 litre engine with 300hp and drinks 10 gallons to the mile pick up truck, Americans wouldn't be interested. I am so sick of seeing big American pick trucks that are the size of a lorry in a shopping center car-park.

      Sadly you're spot on Sten.. Countless 'Muricans think is big stupid truck is the best there is. Or some garbage from Chrysler/Fiat/Stellantis. I love cars like the kind that Lotus, Alpine, MG, TVR, Austin Healey, Triumph, Morris, Sunbeam, AC, Toyota (JDM), Honda (JDM), Suzuki (JDM), Diahatsu (of course JDM), Nissan (JDM), Mazda (JDM), Tommy Kaira (JDM only), Mitsubishi (JDM), Lancia, Peugeot, Alfa Romeo, Porsche (mostly old, pre-2000), old Audis, innies (kidding), Citroen, Opel, Vauxall, Jensen, old VW's, old Jags, old Mercs, old Rovers, & Renault to name just a bunch. Then stuff like Pagani, Ferrari, Lamborghini, a few cool Fiats, and kf course Seat. That Ibiza Cupra Cup Car is amazing af! And the Seat Leone. Many many cars. Classic trucks and classic American cars have their place as well, and classic off-roaders like a International Scout/Scout2, and a Jeep Grand Wagoneer (the originals) are also prettty choice. They all have their place to shine. Rally Cars are my favourite!

    Instead of forced induction or a typical engine swap, the builder of this hillclimb car decided to drop in a Hartley V8. That's a custom-built, made-to-order V8 built from two Suzuki Hayabusa motorcycle engines.😮

    Very few engine notes makes you want to play the home game of Roar with the Race Car quite like a Busa V8!
    Add: I'm guessing it's some kind of wizardry between the engine and whatever gearbox they run in this car, but that thing has crazy weird gear ratios vs what you'd expect. 1&2 seemed to rip forever, then the rest is Real short ratio bang and go. Marvelous to see it all work though!

    • @unknown_phara0h_597
      @unknown_phara0h_597 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Busa v8 is based of the Hayabusa bike motor.. that's why it's short gear ratio to help control the power just like the bike. Sounds just like a busa, with a v8 roar.

    My jaw was danglin open for most of that run. Especially the parts early on where there's a go off and you're dead cliff with and without railing. I wanna sound deaden that car, put in a full interior, remove every sticker/decal on it and paint it a pearl and metallic British Racing Green, with 3-piece 5 spoke Rotoform wheels that match the wheel and tire sizes already on it. Plus some air bagged sus to lift it for speed bumps and driveways. A super quiet exhaust system for normal use with cut-outs that run to full race outlets that would open on full-throttle and stay open until closed by way of push button. Then daily drive that monster everywhere!

    The Hartley V8 is such an underrated motor. Most people don’t know you can make over 500hp from that tiny thing and if built far enough can likely push 550 naturally aspirated horsepower out of 3.3 liters at 11,000-12,000rpm. I don’t doubt you could get over 550hp if you threw enough money at it. Mean little machine this is

      Sequential paddle shifters are usually pneumatically actuated. You can either have a compressor and an air tank to provide the pneumatics or simply a bottle of high-pressure compressed air. I imagine the driver is using the latter as it's quite a bit lighter but then you only have a limited amount of shifts before the bottle runs empty and you have to refill it. It looks like the driver is only using the pneumatic paddle shifting when it's absolutely necessary to keep both hands on the wheel (mostly under braking and in long turns while accelerating). When it isn't he's using the mechanical/ manual lever to preserve air. This is just an assumption, though.
