13 over 16? Nah, I don't agree. 16 has WAY better storytelling and characters that are loveable. However, I'm with you on FFX being the greatest FF game of all time.
Final Fantasy X is by far the best final fantasy ever!! I love love LOVE blitzball!!! If I had to do my top five it would be 1 FFX 2 FFXII 3 FFVIIR 4 FFIX 5 FFXIII-2
@@slam-zany agreed, I didn't care for 13, but 13-2 however is incredible. The Pokemon aspect of it, Noel Chris' fighting style, chocobo racing, the whole gambling and entertainment area that's like a theme park, and the story, just wow! It was my first platinum trophy. I love 13-2 but not as much as I love 10, 12, and 9
Great list! I still haven't finished the series yet, have a few of the more "modern" ones to play yet so I don't have a ranking. I always enjoy hearing different people's take on their favorites.
Those are interesting takes indeed! I can respect that, and kudos for recognizing the potential of FFXIII! (am a bit sad about FFXV tho, I actually like that one too quite a bit, even if the story is disjointed)
ffx is not just the best game in the final fantasy series, it is in terms of story the best game ever made. There is by far not a single game that reaches the same emotional level ffx reaches and not just with the incredible ending scene, also so many great moments through the entire game. For me, final fantasy x plays in its own league.
Why 6 will forever be number for me when I was a kid playing it , I couldn’t tell who was the main character, and that is the biggest compliment I can give any game , like 7 u know it’s cloud , 8 u know it’s squall , but 6 the characters were given so much love , that everybody’s favorite character varies , best story game of all time hands down for me
Seriously like it took me years to learn Terra was the main character, , my favorite was the Sabin , when they got separated on the raft that was just so epic , when the world ended and u had to find everybody , or the sword tech guy who couldn’t learn his last tech cause he was still haunted from what Kefca did , that game just too epic
IX is kinda mid to me and VI is amazing, but still only takes my number 4 spot 😅. I think there’s really no definite ranking of these, far too individual.
Here's my ranking: 1. FF VIII 2. FF X 3. FF IX 4. FF VI 5. FF VII 6. FF XII 7. FF XVI 8. FF XV 9. FF XIII 10. FF IV 11. FF III 12. FF V 13. FF I 14. FF II
10 is special for me it just stays with me like something nostalgic. Not sure why you didn’t include 11 and 14 as 14 is my 2nd favorite with the 7 remake/series being my favorite.
I am playing through each and every Final Fantasy game, and I just recently beat 10. I can understand now why everyone praises that game so highly, it is genuinely one of the best games I ever played. With that said though, I think my favorite currently has to go to 4, however, that opinion might change after repeat playthroughs of either 7, 8, 9, or 10.

Say what you will about final fantasy 15’s flaws but man Yoko’s soundtrack for the game was incredible not to mention Ardyn being a top tier antagonist! Also really loved the endearing characters 15 had.
FFX is also one of those lifetime-games for me. I just enjoy the story and the characters so much (even the goofy/cringey scenes, specially those by Tidus). I replayed it recently, and it feels just as good as it was when I played it for the first time.
same top 2 :) ...as I feel now lol. 12 could make its way up there for sure. gonna say my top 5 are 10, 6, 12, 7, 5. I feel like that's a pretty spicy rating for 13! I actually haven't played it so I don't know.
I’ve always been pretty high on 13. I think if it got a remaster or remake it might get more love but who knows, I could just be one of the few that really enjoys it.
I feel like the initial game X has the tightest story. The lore building and characters are so well crafted. I feel like the motivations are so spot on, I also feel like theres basically an answer for everything in the 1st game. The sphere grid system is also my favorite system, grinding to beat the post game (Nemesis, Dark Aeons, and Penance) is super rewarding
My ranking is similar, but with a few changes. From bottom to top: II, I, III, V, XV, VIII, XIII, XVI, VII, X, XII, IX, IV, VI. Like you said when talking about VI, its on the Mt. Rushmore of JRPGs to me, and Kefka is just phenomenal. I was never fooled into a false love or loyalty to VII like I've seen so widespread in the community, nor am I overly enthralled by X. To focus on my top 5, X's music was the main reason i keep it so highly. The hymn of the Fayth is still one of my favorite pieces of music, regardless of its origin. XII had the best combat system for me as it felt like fine-tuning a murder machine with the gambit system. IX was the last great classic styled FF, and I absolute adore the characters and their designs. IV was both my first Final Fantasy game and the one i've played the most. The story, the characters, the world, the chibi models on the 3d re-release. I love all of it. VI.... VI is one of the games that made me truly, actually fall in love with video games. My Mt. Rushmore of JRPGs, since i mentioned it earlier, is: Chrono Trigger, FFVI, Persona 5 Royal, and (I consider this to be a JRPG though im not sure of its actual definition) Kingdom Hearts 2.
Thank you for the 13 love... it's a masterpiece. And thank you for not pretending to like 15 and 16 which were MASSIVELY DISSAPPOINTING unlike lots of other FF fans lol
It’s a shame that nobody gave FF13-2 a fair shot because the internet told them 13 is “too linear” because it’s better in every way. I have nothing to say about Lightning Returns.
Pretty much similar to my list, except I would put XV right under XIII and put V & XVI one number down. Maybe it's a little biased because the XV that I played was the Windows Edition and not the day 1 ps4 release, so XVI is like 2 steps forward and 3 steps backward from XV for me. But both still don't beat the XIII and XIII-2. But I agree with X being on top, and it's still mindblowing to me that it's an early years ps2 game. And Blitzball is oddly addicting, I can say that I spend like 50 hours on each of my playthrough.
@@Mattev2309 The pathing is different in X. Game time and you arrive at a small village, then the ship, second hour and you go to a city with the Blitz championship. The problem with XIII is that they didn't even make an effort to cover it up or give it dynamics. The beach scene was almost good but they didn't even take advantage of it, that game has serious impossibility of knowing how to tell its story
This series maybe changes my opinion the most game-to-game on replay. X was my favourite upon release and I really disliked 12. Now 12 is my preference. I loved 13 but it was so lame when i came back years later. For me, 7 and 6 are interchangeable as the best, 12 close behind. Like I said, X was my favourite in the years after its release, but I find the characters awkward now, and the tutorial/intro is almost unbearably tedious. The combat system just feels too simple. Its still a blast overall, but its mid-range for me now. Agree with you on 15. Totally fun combat style and graphics but the story and characters might be the lowest of all the games.
Mate, I'm not disagreeing that 6 to 7 wasn't huge. But 9 to 10 was definitely the biggest leap. 2d to 3d, then 3d to awesome cinematics, voice acting, the graphics. I mean come on.
6, 7og, 16, and all the rest. It's not even close and I'll fucking die on this hill. I played all of them but 13 and 15 and the MMOs, and the disrespect for 16 is a tragedy
No disagreements with your ranking at all because I see your POV as to why things are ranked higher or lower then others. Personally my ranking would be 1. VII 2. IX 3. VI 4. VIII 5. XVI 6. X 7. IV 8. V 9. XII 10. XIII 11. XV 12. I 13. III 14. II
With all of its many flaws, Final Fantasy 15 is my favorite so far and I've played them all except 16. No FF game has ever made me get attached to the characters the way FF15's bromance has. FF9 came close and is my 2nd favorite but FF15 made me feel all of the feels. When Ignis lost his sight, when Prompto was bullied in the anime, when Gladio tells Noctis to man up... the final campfire. Stand by me song at the end. Goddamn! FF15 is a masterpiece. Flaws and all.
Where have you found all that nice graphics for final fantasy 4? Is it one of the mobile games. I have finished that game twocw and ones was on mobile and that had complete overhauled graphics
Final Fantasy 2 doesn't get the credit it deserves. From a modern standpoint it hasn't aged well at all. But at the time it came out it was extremely innovative and incredibly ambitious. It attempted a more specific narrative rather than the fairly generic adventure of the first game. The character growth system was unique as well. That's not to say it wasn't deeply flawed, even at the time. It's just noteworthy that it was a sequel that wasn't just a rehash of what came before. I sometimes wish that Square-Enix would remake this game the way it was initially planned. "Ambitious" feels like an understatement. My own ranking from favorite to least favorite: Final Fantasy IX Final Fantasy VIII Final Fantasy XII Final Fantasy XIII Trilogy Final Fantasy VII Final Fantasy X/X-2 Final Fantasy VI Final Fantasy XVI Final Fantasy XV Final Fantasy IV Final Fantasy V Final Fantasy I Final Fantasy III Final Fantasy II Yeah, I'm weird.
In regards to ff2, yea i know most ppl hate it, i know the internet says it needs to be hated, but if the main reason is because the progression system CAN be cheesed by hitting yourself or using okder version exploits that dont NEED go be done, then by that logic, shouldnt final fantasy 7 be way lower due to the old exploit of opening the disc cover after casting regen?
A shame FF14 couldn't be here, because it's an easy top 3 in the FF franchise. Amazing setting, amazing villians, lovable companions for your journey, lots and lots of moments that hit like a truck, and most important is that it actually managed to make a good story with a silent protagonist.
I haven't played 2,3 or 5 yet, but I'd put 10 easily at the bottom, below 1. Its the only game in the series that has party members I outright dislike. I'd put the entire 13 series in 3rd, above 7 but below 6 and 9 at the top
I have no issue with X at the top. You have the right top 4 abd those 4 can realistically be ranked in any order and I won't fight it even if my list is skightly different at top: IX, VII, X, VI for me
I've recently seen some HD mods that make OG 7 look pretty awesome, so if people are just repelled by its visuals nowadays, I think they should try it with some of those on. It's a shame to miss a masterpiece like this one for that kind of reasons. I mean, the remakes are ok and all, their combat system is fun as heck for instance, but the pacing of the story was so much better in the original and the world itself worked better with all the silliness induced by its chibi style in my opinion. 😅
Very different from my ranking, I would go: 1. VII 2. X 3. VIII 4. VI 5. V 6. IX 7. IV 8. XV Leaving out the first three, I have played them, but they’re not really impressive. Quit XII, quit XIII, but want to give them fair chances at some point in the future. Haven’t played XVI since I don’t have a PS5.
I used to say that FF9 was my all-time favorite and the best in the series. But I recently replayed it with a more critical eye. I realized how crappy Disc 3 is of that game. It is basically just a series of 4-5 dungeons with little plot advancement and then a massive info dump at the end. As I've matured I've realized that FF6 is the most epic and sophisticated.
I haven't played 3, 12, 15, or 16. Mine would go 9/6 for top spot follows closely by 10, then probably 4 (had a huge impact on me), then 7. I despise 8. 13 is okay but I gave up less than halfway through. 2 is...well...it's the progenitor for the Saga series. I think many people are going to get upset at you for putting 13 above 16. 16 definitely doesn't look like a Final Fantasy to me. Also, I disagree with you on 13 being the turning point, I feel that was 12. 12 was the first huge deviation from the norm (unless you count 11 which should've been Final Fantasy Online, not 11. I mean if Tactics wasn't a numbered entry, why is 11??)
Very fair points made here. 16 was not a bad game and I think that many people will assume because I put it lower on the list that I didn't like it, but I actually really enjoyed it. My issue with 16 is it's just not enough of an RPG and the gameplay is a bit too easy. Hard mode is the sweet spot but it isn't unlocked until you beat the game once. As for 13, I am one of the rare few that adores it, and I think that if it got a remake with some quality of life fixes a lot more fans of the series would enjoy this game.
@@slam-zany I really liked 13 until you leave the first big city and it opens up into side quests and took the wind out of my sails. Should give it another chance at some point.
FF XII could be potential as best FF game. addictive combat system and gameplay, But there is no plot twist in story and no character's backstory. Until now I still don't know who is the MC.
My friend and i had a theory that the 1st ff you play is the onw that will always be at the top. For me that was ff7 and my child brain wont let me change that lol. I have yet to go back to the 2d games but thoroughly love the ps1 and beyond games. Ffx is only 2nd for me because i spent too much time in blitzball
Wow. I usually expects if 7 is on top. I even understands it. If not, its 6 on top. I always give extra respect to people pick 6 over 7 (which u did), to me, they did saw the diamond in a rough. But 10? This is the first one. And you clearly knows what u talking about. Maybe its just taste on how we feel as we experience the game. To me, 10 not even in my top 5. Because it was the first game (i never read reviews before playing a game. Only see the score), that disappoint me so hard that i cannot flying around on the world map, because at that time it was a crucial feature regarding exploration. I lost i little motivation to continue playing, but still beat it. Then later, i play Dragon Quest 8, and we can still fly on the world map, so i thought ff10 is just lazy. Not flying on world map eventually become a thing in modern rpg. But my fave modrn rpg is xenoblade because it excelled on exploration. To me, 6 its like, all the people involved making, was at the peak of imagining, designing, and creating the perfect rpg, simultaneously 😂 I even think its better than chrono I really like the video though. Clearly you know what u talking about Cheers
Funny you conveniently left out 14 that has the best story of the series. Doesn’t matter if it’s an MMO it is a JRPG first MMO second and is 95 percent playable solo.
At the beginning of the video, I mentioned I wasn’t going to talk about the MMOs but I’d played them extensively and would make another video on them specifically. I love 14, if I had to rank it, it’d probably be at the 3 spot on this list. Best MMO I’ve played in my opinion. Thanks for watching!
Oh look, what a surprise, a TH-camr that doesn't understand the concept of what a mainline Final Fantasy is. XI and XIV are just as mainline as the rest of the numbered games.
Is it though? 11 hasn’t been active since support ended in 2016 and 14 is a completely different game that many fans of the mainline games haven’t played because it’s an MMO. I love 14 but it makes sense not to include them in a list of 14 single player games.
You're not alone. Final Fantasy X is my all time favourite. One of the best moments of my life was meeting James Arnold Taylor (Tidus), John DiMaggio (Wakka & Kimarhi) and Tara Strong (Rikku). Not only that, they also signed my PS2 Copy of the Game.

13 is massively underrated, whereas 16 is style no deep gameplay.

11. XV
12. I
13. III
14. II
FF the best franchise man. Been my best friend for 30+ years
With all of its many flaws, Final Fantasy 15 is my favorite so far and I've played them all except 16.
FFXIV clears every game here btw
Ffx is the best
My own ranking from favorite to least favorite:
Final Fantasy IX
Final Fantasy VIII
Final Fantasy XII
Final Fantasy XIII Trilogy
Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy X/X-2
Final Fantasy VI
Final Fantasy XVI
Final Fantasy XV
Final Fantasy IV
Final Fantasy V
Final Fantasy I
Final Fantasy III
Final Fantasy II
Yeah, I'm weird.
FFX FOR THE WIN!!! NO FF GAME CAN TOUCH THE EMOTIONAL IMPACT THAT FFX ENDING CAUSED
VI and IX are my top, II and VIII my bottom. The rest are typically in flux.
My favorite 2D Final Fantasy is V, and my favorite 3D Final Fantasy is VIII. Because I’m a goddamned iconoclast
Agreed with 10 being the best
13 above 15 is INSANE
Very different from my ranking, I would go:
1. VII
2. X
3. VIII
4. VI
5. V
6. IX
7. IV
8. XV
Leaving out the first three, I have played them, but they’re not really impressive. Quit XII, quit XIII, but want to give them fair chances at some point in the future. Haven’t played XVI since I don’t have a PS5.
You cant seriously put 13 above 16....
Yes!!!!! 10 getting its credit!!!!!
I Agree!
8 ain't in the top 5 but it ain't in the bottom 5 so I guess I'll take that as a win :) #FF8FOREVER
💯Final Fantasy 7. No Questions. And i'm talking about the OG one (1997) then Remake and Rebirth. And THEN Final fantasy 6. End of the conversation😎
10 is overrated and 13 isn't as bad as people say. Really loved 7 and 8. 9 is fine.
When I saw FF7 that low I knew immediately that the rest of your opinions were invalid
FF XII could be potential as best FF game. addictive combat system and gameplay, But there is no plot twist in story and no character's backstory. Until now I still don't know who is the MC.
Saying FFXVI is not like any other FF game truly you have never played FFXIV lmao
6 in top 1 is so normie
My friend and i had a theory that the 1st ff you play is the onw that will always be at the top. For me that was ff7 and my child brain wont let me change that lol. I have yet to go back to the 2d games but thoroughly love the ps1 and beyond games. Ffx is only 2nd for me because i spent too much time in blitzball
Sorry to tell you Sir. I have no feathers therefore they cannot be ruffled.
It’s kinda crazy seeing FFXVI 10th I can’t believe it
It’s good but it just didn’t feel like a final fantasy game to me and it was a bit too easy for my liking. The RPG elements weren’t deep enough.
My top 3.
12, 7 Remake, 16.
I’m glad somebody put 15 in its place. Easily one of my least favourites in the seriss
To me, 6 its like, all the people involved making, was at the peak of imagining, designing, and creating the perfect rpg, simultaneously 😂
I even think its better than chrono
I really like the video though. Clearly you know what u talking about
Cheers
My favourite 6 , 10 , 12 , 14 , 16
X is great in almost every aspect not the best at them but at least is great in all of them
Funny you conveniently left out 14 that has the best story of the series. Doesn’t matter if it’s an MMO it is a JRPG first MMO second and is 95 percent playable solo.
14 is a mainline game regardless of the waaa but.. MMO. 🙄
Ff 16 >>> ff 13
Ff 16 is an excellent game people just hate it cause theyre blinded by nostalgia
Ironically you just described 13 😂
Ffx & ff7 remake my fav
I'm sorry u have 16 at #10? That story was fantastic compared to a lot of the others, u lost me there
FF XVI is way too low imo. Other than that, great list 👍
13 has to be the most dogwater FF game I've ever played. Terrible combat, super linear world until that one area later on
16 is top 5. The story. Combat. Gotta disagree with your take.
Weird way to say 15
outside of the combat system, FFX is a dumpster fire in every way
Horrible take
another ranking vid on youtube, another ranking without 14. ok buddy
The list is okay…. I guess.
Oh look, what a surprise, a TH-camr that doesn't understand the concept of what a mainline Final Fantasy is. XI and XIV are just as mainline as the rest of the numbered games.
Yeah all these lists lose any credibility when they group the mmo’s with spinoff games
Is it though? 11 hasn’t been active since support ended in 2016 and 14 is a completely different game that many fans of the mainline games haven’t played because it’s an MMO. I love 14 but it makes sense not to include them in a list of 14 single player games.
cope and seethe
I am only here to tell u that...
U r rong.
