America needs more catholic priests like you father mike! The health of the Church depends directly on the spirit of her priests. So priests need to be more than simply honest or diligent or even faithful. They need to be consumed by a love for God, a love for their people and a love for the Catholic faith. And that kind of love - a passion to give ourselves to something greater than ourselves - cuts against the very nature of the noise, distractions and consumerist addictions at the heart of modern American life.

Not only can priests, bishops and the Pope have authority to spread the gospel, but WE the people of the Church can be a witness and share the Word to places that are hungering for it. There is definitely something profoundly intimate in just sharing that space together. I remember liking this girl on the same floor in our dorms last year. Midterms were over and we did some drinking, she having done a little too much, so her roommate, myself, and another friend, James, helped make sure she got back to her room. Fastforward, I stayed to make sure she had water and some hangover stuff in the morning (gatorade, light snack, etc.). Later that night, she invited me up with her (she had top bunk). When the girl you like invites you to spend time with her on her bed you do it right? And we had done this before to just talk and stuff with others around (parties in dorms happen in people’s rooms) so it seemed ok at the time. For the record I knew we weren’t going to do anything and I certainly had no intention lf taking advantage of her whatsoever. And thankfully, I was right, we didn’t do anything, but if I could go back i would’ve bolted out the door. When I got up I even sat up rather than lie down next to her, just handed her her pillow and tried to convince her water was the best thing in the world. Then she invited me to lay down beside her, and after some convincing I decided, “fine, what’s the harm in that? We still aren’t going to do anything.” And we didn’t. She told me to hold her. I refused and told her to drink water. I was about to leave, thinking her asleep as safe for the night, when she rolled over and started running her hand up and down my torso. I remember feeling aroused but really, really, really uncomfortable at the same time, but also just paralyzed and unable to get up even though I wanted to; it was really confusing and I remember crying about it the next morning trying to make sense out of it. I just felt violated and simultaneously disgusted with myself for not having better judgment, even though “the worst” wasn’t even close to happening. A week later I went to go pick up a friend from his room and saw her laying down in a bed next to James, holding each other. And they were clothed and weren’t doing anything, but I was still devastated over that, because sharing that space is still something very intimate, which I did not thing would hurt that much to see, but seeing it made me realize how intimate that can be. So I totally agree with Fr Mike on this. Such things wouldn’t hurt like that if they were as casual as we allow ourselves to imagine them sometimes. Even if we are superhuman enough to experience this without any physiological changes in ourselves, it will definitely evoke a deep emotional attachment. I just wanted to know she would be ok, and I was the one not ok afterwards. Definitely something I will never do again outside of the context of marriage. The phrase “leave room for jesus” sounds so corny sometimes, but if we don’t leave room for jesus, we make a vacancy for satan in the near occasion of sin. I am glad this video is here, and hope that someone will see it and reconsider before making poor decisions like myself. Also, date Catholic. I am sure that would have helped prevent this as well.
This was my hardest confession, a few days before my wedding, confessing to my Father that I had slept with my fiancé, as well as seventeen others throughout my 20s, and how ashamed I was at myself. It was the only time I ever cried in confession and I felt unworthy to be even getting married in the Catholic Church. But my Father offered some wonderful words of wisdom and absolved me of my sins. To this day I still don’t think I’ve fully forgiven myself. I wish I had waited until marriage.
I feel terribly sometimes too - was stuck in a toxic relationship for a while before and it really tainted my actions. I've since gone for confession for all those sins but sometimes I do feel unworthy of dating a good man.
When you have repented, and went through the sacrament of reconciliation, your soul is cleansed of the sin before God. You should still work to be better, but don’t let guilt control you. That is the devil, not God.
The truth is that you fell into temptation - and God has forgiven you as soon as you asked for forgiveness- even before you had to ask, He was ready to forgive you - He always is.
Michael Verde This is pretty ambiguous to me. Are you suggesting that this person does not need to be in the Catholic Church? The only other alternative that comes to mind is you meaning that one doesn’t have to be Catholic to know and understand the riches of the Church and the Truth which is Christ and His teachings through the Church. This is true, however out of prudence I would say it in such a way that it doesn’t sound like one doesn’t need to be a Catholic to get to Heaven. For one who knows and understands that the Catholic Church is the one true Church established by Christ and still rejects it, is condemning them-self. I don’t mean to sound harsh it’s just that we must exercise prudence in what we say lest we mislead others through error and ambiguity. God bless!

Speaking as a happy, Catholic, red blooded, married man of nearly ten years, every bit of purity my wife (then girlfriend and fiancee) fought for was worth it. We were - and are - madly in love with each other and saved ourselves for each other which was TOTALLY WORTH IT! The goal of your relationship should be to get the other person to heaven so make it easy for them to be holy and know you will also be richly blessed as a result.
If your trusting in your life to go to heaven then u ain't going to heaven, pleaseeeee get saved 1st Corinthians 15 verse 1 through 4 is how your really SAVED

Chastity is the hardest thing to achieve when you're in love. That's why some people get married after only knowing each other a few weeks or less. That's a big mistake, of course. This is good advice, Father Mike.

The “pillar of truth” part is from the Bible. I thought it said Justice, guess not. 1 Timothy 3: 14 - 16 - Beloved: I am writing you, although I hope to visit you soon. But if I should be delayed, you should know how to behave in the household of God, which is the Church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of truth.

The absolute truth. My husband and I did not 'test drive' before marriage as that debases the person and the relationship.. I would never date or marry a man who used me for his pleasure before commitment of marriage. I am worth much more than that. And a man so honorable would be worth marrying.
What a dehumanizing saying that mainstream culture has gotten into. 'Test driving', as if the son or daughter of God in front of them were a car, a mere object to be used for their sexual gratification.
Great video and advise. I was a virgin until I got married at 41, and have to say that I'm proud of the moral values my parents instilled in me. Many young people today give into their passions and temptations without batting their eyelids. Many of young girls end up pregnant in their teens.
I was! I grew up with very strict parents and I didn't meet my husband until I was in my early thirties and we got married a few years later. We had a Long Distant relationship. This year we are celebrating our 14th year Anniversary.
I've always wrestled with whether doing this while in an unmarried relationship would be in fact wrong or not, so I'm so glad you shared this Fr. Mike. It all depends on circumstances as you said, but in general I think I won't be doing this before I'm married.

Veronica M just to clarify for you the only circumstance that he said that it would be okay is if you were in emergency type situation where you needed the body heat to stay alive. I sort of doubt that's the situation you're going to be faced with so go ahead and commit to not doing this Behavior.

Fr Mike is spot on. It is not intrinsically that bad. Yet it certainly tempts us to bad things and gets others thinking. Why bring that into our lives? More importantly, it hurts our future intimacy. If we get used to sharing these moments then we have to get used to holding back what we naturally want to do with those we love. We can love so much more strongly if we respect the sacrament of marriage.
I do not know anyone who lives this, I only know cohabiters who eventually do or do not marry. My own mother calls this proposed chaste way of living a love relationship backward and restricting and damaging to people's health causing couples to marry way too early and often marrying the wrong person, just look at the divorce rates. But Father Mike's message is so beautifully presented, so loving, an argument so well explained, and so convicting. I wish everyone could watch it, I wish our western society would live like this, and I wish everyone had a priest like this one in their home parish. I'm not catholic by the way, but I'm seriously loving Fr. Mike's videos.
Just in response to your mother's way of thinking - you know that couples that practice chastity have a statistically greater chance of staying together in the long run as opposed to those that co-habitate, or have pre-marital sex, right? Sure, people might get married younger, but being chaste beforehand allows you the opportunity to really evaluate whether the person you're courting is the person that will be appropriate for marriage in the long run, versus having your mind clouded by the extra facet of sexuality in a relationship. I myself was not aware of putting yourself in danger, but having experienced it, can only say it does not stop there in time and that it should be reserved for the future spouse. I am an Orthodox Christian and I wish our priests cared more about young couples before marriage. They did tell us not to make love before marriage, but didn't warn us about these "little" things like sharing a bed, that are huge temptations. I appreciate this video so much. I met my husband right before graduating high school, he was and still is a practicing Catholic and myself was a Christian at the time, now practicing Catholic. This was something we struggled with. I wasn't allowed to spend the night with him, but we would lay down in his bed next to each other and convinced ourselves that as long as we weren't "doing it", that it was fine. Let me tell anyone who might be in the same boat, you're asking for trouble. If you know the struggle when you're in love with someone, then I don't need to say anything else. Just don't put yourself in that situation. This is definitely something I will teach my kids. God gave us desire for a reason, so dont tease and play with it, because eventually you will lose!
I think the way media or movies have been portraying(or romanticizing) how relationship is like or should be like, do have an impact on young people these days. I think it's also important for parents to teach and raise their children in faith and be open to have "the talk" with them.
Wow, God does provide! My daughter keeps asking to spend the night with her boyfriend. They are 14 & 16 and both sets of parents are adamant that it is never going to happen. Can't wait to share this with her.
I am so happy to see this video. I just ran into you July 2018 at the first Steubenville event at the hotel getting on the elevator. I was surprised that my 15 year old Granddaughter that was just accepted into the Catholic church this past Easter knew who you were when I did not. My Granddaughter just had a pool party when her parents were out of town. She allowed friends to stay over and even though nothing happened it didn't set proper with any of us. My Granddaughter saw this video after the fact and finally got what we were saying was the gospel. I am so glad she ran into you at the elevator and you even offered to share your twizzlers with us all. I only wished we would have got a picture together. Thank you so much for all you do. You have opened the eyes of someone so trusting of all and she now knows it was wrong. It's all in Gods timing.
Fr. Mike explains it so well and what he says makes so much sense! I also think if a couple who are dating wait to spend the night together and do what married couples do until they are married, it sets a very good example in our culture.
Beautifully said, Father Mike! Another way to think about this is... All relationships don't lead necessarily to marriage (obviously), so think about your future spouse - would you want them spending the night with their current BF/GF, or would you want them to reserve that for you?

When counseling people today, I try to bring them together on a basis of PLANNING FOR ALL THINGS BASIS. Everything a husband and wife do is to be one all-encompassing PLAN for all in the family, not forgetting the possibility of children who may come. The amazing center of our society is the Family, and there must be a PLAN which newlyweds have become involved with even before they decided on marriage. All that is done in life must be part of the individual plans you've discussed and prayed about together, such that nothing becomes traumatic, as you've already spoken about various possibilities occurring. If Husband and Wife are indeed "as one" in everything they do, with an "US against the world" mentality with Christ at the center, life will always be amazingly love-filled, and joyous! "Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ, to be holy and without fault in his eyes. 5: God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ" (Ephesians 1: 4, 5, New Living Translation). When we understand the beauty of the Everlasting Gospel Emily Anne, we will Plan life so thoroughly that each new day is centered around walking in Messiah Yahushua [His Hebrew root Name], and pleasing Both Father and Son before all else in this life! As much as I find Fr. Mike to unfortunately be lost in the Novus Ordo and the sewer of American/Global cultural disposition... it is absolutely exceptional that he speaks on these matters which are so marginalized by "Catholics" so thank you Fr. Thanks for mentioning it. I know a lot of younger people around my age who don't take thus seriously and see it as a thing of the past. I'm going to be a nun at some point in the future and I think its a good thing that some people still emphasize the importance of purity, patience and self control. Also I think more young women should wear a purity ring. I used to wear one (until it one day was placed somewhere obscure) and I was proud to wear it.
I've been looking for this type of content. I've been spending a lot of time in TH-cam and now, it feels like watching these videos from this channel makes my spent time more precious.

Not only can priests, bishops and the Pope have authority to spread the gospel, but WE the people of the Church can be a witness and share the Word to places that are hungering for it. There is definitely something profoundly intimate in just sharing that space together.
I remember liking this girl on the same floor in our dorms last year. Midterms were over and we did some drinking, she having done a little too much, so her roommate, myself, and another friend, James, helped make sure she got back to her room. Fastforward, I stayed to make sure she had water and some hangover stuff in the morning (gatorade, light snack, etc.). Later that night, she invited me up with her (she had top bunk). When the girl you like invites you to spend time with her on her bed you do it right? And we had done this before to just talk and stuff with others around (parties in dorms happen in people’s rooms) so it seemed ok at the time.
For the record I knew we weren’t going to do anything and I certainly had no intention lf taking advantage of her whatsoever. And thankfully, I was right, we didn’t do anything, but if I could go back i would’ve bolted out the door.
When I got up I even sat up rather than lie down next to her, just handed her her pillow and tried to convince her water was the best thing in the world.
Then she invited me to lay down beside her, and after some convincing I decided, “fine, what’s the harm in that? We still aren’t going to do anything.” And we didn’t. She told me to hold her. I refused and told her to drink water. I was about to leave, thinking her asleep as safe for the night, when she rolled over and started running her hand up and down my torso.
I remember feeling aroused but really, really, really uncomfortable at the same time, but also just paralyzed and unable to get up even though I wanted to; it was really confusing and I remember crying about it the next morning trying to make sense out of it. I just felt violated and simultaneously disgusted with myself for not having better judgment, even though “the worst” wasn’t even close to happening.
A week later I went to go pick up a friend from his room and saw her laying down in a bed next to James, holding each other. And they were clothed and weren’t doing anything, but I was still devastated over that, because sharing that space is still something very intimate, which I did not thing would hurt that much to see, but seeing it made me realize how intimate that can be.
So I totally agree with Fr Mike on this. Such things wouldn’t hurt like that if they were as casual as we allow ourselves to imagine them sometimes. Even if we are superhuman enough to experience this without any physiological changes in ourselves, it will definitely evoke a deep emotional attachment. I just wanted to know she would be ok, and I was the one not ok afterwards. Definitely something I will never do again outside of the context of marriage.
The phrase “leave room for jesus” sounds so corny sometimes, but if we don’t leave room for jesus, we make a vacancy for satan in the near occasion of sin.
I am glad this video is here, and hope that someone will see it and reconsider before making poor decisions like myself.
Also, date Catholic. I am sure that would have helped prevent this as well.

This was my hardest confession, a few days before my wedding, confessing to my Father that I had slept with my fiancé, as well as seventeen others throughout my 20s, and how ashamed I was at myself. It was the only time I ever cried in confession and I felt unworthy to be even getting married in the Catholic Church. But my Father offered some wonderful words of wisdom and absolved me of my sins. To this day I still don’t think I’ve fully forgiven myself. I wish I had waited until marriage.
I feel terribly sometimes too - was stuck in a toxic relationship for a while before and it really tainted my actions. I've since gone for confession for all those sins but sometimes I do feel unworthy of dating a good man.
When you have repented, and went through the sacrament of reconciliation, your soul is cleansed of the sin before God. You should still work to be better, but don’t let guilt control you. That is the devil, not God.
Give grace to yourselves... Christ erased all sin. Be blessed.... go in peace and sin no more. @Samaritan by the well
The truth is that you fell into temptation - and God has forgiven you as soon as you asked for forgiveness- even before you had to ask, He was ready to forgive you - He always is.

Michael Verde This is pretty ambiguous to me. Are you suggesting that this person does not need to be in the Catholic Church? The only other alternative that comes to mind is you meaning that one doesn’t have to be Catholic to know and understand the riches of the Church and the Truth which is Christ and His teachings through the Church. This is true, however out of prudence I would say it in such a way that it doesn’t sound like one doesn’t need to be a Catholic to get to Heaven. For one who knows and understands that the Catholic Church is the one true Church established by Christ and still rejects it, is condemning them-self. I don’t mean to sound harsh it’s just that we must exercise prudence in what we say lest we mislead others through error and ambiguity. God bless!

Speaking as a happy, Catholic, red blooded, married man of nearly ten years, every bit of purity my wife (then girlfriend and fiancee) fought for was worth it. We were - and are - madly in love with each other and saved ourselves for each other which was TOTALLY WORTH IT! The goal of your relationship should be to get the other person to heaven so make it easy for them to be holy and know you will also be richly blessed as a result.
If your trusting in your life to go to heaven then u ain't going to heaven, pleaseeeee get saved 1st Corinthians 15 verse 1 through 4 is how your really SAVED

Chastity is the hardest thing to achieve when you're in love. That's why some people get married after only knowing each other a few weeks or less. That's a big mistake, of course. This is good advice, Father Mike.

Personally, I think waiting long periods of time before getting married is asking for trouble. But that's just my own experience and opinion.

The absolute truth. My husband and I did not 'test drive' before marriage as that debases the person and the relationship.. I would never date or marry a man who used me for his pleasure before commitment of marriage. I am worth much more than that. And a man so honorable would be worth marrying.

Fr Mike is spot on. It is not intrinsically that bad. Yet it certainly tempts us to bad things and gets others thinking. Why bring that into our lives? More importantly, it hurts our future intimacy. If we get used to sharing these moments then we have to get used to holding back what we naturally want to do with those we love. We can love so much more strongly if we respect the sacrament of marriage.

I do not know anyone who lives this, I only know cohabiters who eventually do or do not marry. My own mother calls this proposed chaste way of living a love relationship backward and restricting and damaging to people's health causing couples to marry way too early and often marrying the wrong person, just look at the divorce rates. But Father Mike's message is so beautifully presented, so loving, an argument so well explained, and so convicting. I wish everyone could watch it, I wish our western society would live like this, and I wish everyone had a priest like this one in their home parish. I'm not catholic by the way, but I'm seriously loving Fr. Mike's videos.
Just in response to your mother's way of thinking - you know that couples that practice chastity have a statistically greater chance of staying together in the long run as opposed to those that co-habitate, or have pre-marital sex, right? Sure, people might get married younger, but being chaste beforehand allows you the opportunity to really evaluate whether the person you're courting is the person that will be appropriate for marriage in the long run, versus having your mind clouded by the extra facet of sexuality in a relationship. Maybe you already know all this. God bless.

I myself was not aware of putting yourself in danger, but having experienced it, can only say it does not stop there in time and that it should be reserved for the future spouse. I am an Orthodox Christian and I wish our priests cared more about young couples before marriage. They did tell us not to make love before marriage, but didn't warn us about these "little" things like sharing a bed, that are huge temptations. Thank you for teaching young Catholics and whomever may land upon this channel!
I appreciate this video so much. I met my husband right before graduating high school, he was and still is a practicing Catholic and myself was a Christian at the time, now practicing Catholic. This was something we struggled with. I wasn't allowed to spend the night with him, but we would lay down in his bed next to each other and convinced ourselves that as long as we weren't "doing it", that it was fine. Let me tell anyone who might be in the same boat, you're asking for trouble. If you know the struggle when you're in love with someone, then I don't need to say anything else. Just don't put yourself in that situation. This is definitely something I will teach my kids. God gave us desire for a reason, so dont tease and play with it, because eventually you will lose!

I think the way media or movies have been portraying(or romanticizing) how relationship is like or should be like, do have an impact on young people these days. I think it's also important for parents to teach and raise their children in faith and be open to have "the talk" with them.

I am so happy to see this video. I just ran into you July 2018 at the first Steubenville event at the hotel getting on the elevator. I was surprised that my 15 year old Granddaughter that was just accepted into the Catholic church this past Easter knew who you were when I did not. My Granddaughter just had a pool party when her parents were out of town. She allowed friends to stay over and even though nothing happened it didn't set proper with any of us. My Granddaughter saw this video after the fact and finally got what we were saying was the gospel. I am so glad she ran into you at the elevator and you even offered to share your twizzlers with us all. I only wished we would have got a picture together. Thank you so much for all you do. You have opened the eyes of someone so trusting of all and she now knows it was wrong. It's all in Gods timing.
Fr. Mike explains it so well and what he says makes so much sense! I also think if a couple who are dating wait to spend the night together and do what married couples do until they are married, it sets a very good example in our culture.

Beautifully said, Father Mike! Another way to think about this is... All relationships don't lead necessarily to marriage (obviously), so think about your future spouse - would you want them spending the night with their current BF/GF, or would you want them to reserve that for you?

I'm in a situation where my parish priest warned against scandal. I thought I understood what he meant when he used the word scandal; he did explain it. Today, months later, after listening to this video, I "really get" what the church means by the sin of scandal. Thanks, Fr. Mike!

What's wrong with asking Christ
Emily Anne Lucy G: The Plan from the very beginning of the Book of Genesis, is mapped out in these few words: "Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh" (Genesis 2: 24). When counseling people today, I try to bring them together on a basis of PLANNING FOR ALL THINGS BASIS. Everything a husband and wife do is to be one all-encompassing PLAN for all in the family, not forgetting the possibility of children who may come. The amazing center of our society is the Family, and there must be a PLAN which newlyweds have become involved with even before they decided on marriage. All that is done in life must be part of the individual plans you've discussed and prayed about together, such that nothing becomes traumatic, as you've already spoken about various possibilities occurring. If Husband and Wife are indeed "as one" in everything they do, with an "US against the world" mentality with Christ at the center, life will always be amazingly love-filled, and joyous!
"Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ, to be holy and without fault in his eyes. 5: God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ" (Ephesians 1: 4, 5, New Living Translation). When we understand the beauty of the Everlasting Gospel Emily Anne, we will Plan life so thoroughly that each new day is centered around walking in Messiah Yahushua [His Hebrew root Name], and pleasing Both Father and Son before all else in this life! With Eternal realities ahead of all else, to insure Eternal Life is recognized as the whole reason we are all here on the Earth together, we will know too, Heaven is doing all that's possible for your best good, as you and your husband bring up a Family which first and foremost is an eternal part of the Family of Yahuwah Elohim - Father and Son. They have already planned from the Heavenly days of Ephesians 1: 4, 5, above, your Family will be a part of the Family of Elohim/God, composed of both humans and angels, those who did not fall away, and had to be shone the Gates of Heaven, and told they could never return. Revelation tells us the devil stole one third of these heavenly angels from God, but two-thirds remain, and they too work in our behalf, to help us to succeed in all we attempt for the glory of Father in His Son, Yahushua, a truth that is being misunderstood, and often forgotten in these last days! This manner of daily spiritual thought, brings forth a reality in YOUR HOME, based upon Truth and Righteousness taught us through our study of the Sacred Scriptures: our hedge against making mistakes in Family Living! Thanks for mentioning it. I know a lot of younger people around my age who don't take thus seriously and see it as a thing of the past. I'm going to be a nun at some point in the future and I think its a good thing that some people still emphasize the importance of purity, patience and self control. Also I think more young women should wear a purity ring. I used to wear one (until it one day was placed somewhere obscure) and I was proud to wear it.

Fr., I am so so so very glad and grateful to you, that you touched upon this daring topic. So many catholic couples before marriage are now a days going out and spending nights out together as couples. Thank you for highlighting the 3 reasons why they should not.
