I started drinking alcohol since my teenage, spent my whole life fighting alcohol addiction. Also suffered severe depression and mental disorder. Not until my wife recommended me to psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment saved my life honestly. 8 years totally clean. This is something that really need to be use globally to help people with similar health challenges.
YES very sure of Dr.medshrooms. I have the same experience with anxiety, depression, PTSD and addiction and Mushrooms definitely made a huge huge difference to why am clean today.
Yes he's Dr.medshrooms. Shrooms to me is a natrual healer. I know a guy who has used mushrooms in the same way and they have really helped him. mah dudes have safe trips all.
I wish they were readily available in my place. Microdosing was my next plan of care for my husband. He is 59 & has so many mental health issues plus probable CTE & a TBI that left him in a coma 8 days. It's too late now I had to get a TPO as he's 6'6 300+ pound homicidal maniac. He's constantly talking about killing someone. He's violent. Anyone reading this Familiar w/ BPD know if it is common for an obsession with violence.
I was horrifically depressed since childhood. It was relentless. I assumed it would ultimately end me somehow. About twelve years ago I randomly accepted the offer from a friend of a few doses of mushrooms. I did them two consecutive nights alone. First night was pretty mild. The second night? Wow. I saw my depression from every angle, realized much. Next day: depression totally gone. Never came back, never coming back. It's like it's a forest far away I can remember, and could probably find again with enough effort, but it has zero impact on anything in my life or mind. They honestly saved my life and improved it immensely. I never did them again, either. I wish there was a good, organized way to administer them to people who would benefit from them.
@Anton Babani As a college student I agree. I'm working on a useful degree in Mortuary Science. Funeral Directors are needed. Most colleges churn out SJWs, but many of us aren't.

My experience is as a whole, 21 year olds don’t have the maturity of restraint. They don’t treat having a good time the same way. It might give them the idea of, yes we can drink. Also better for college students to abstain since they would only be of age to drink in their senior year. I asked my 16 year old grandson to consider not drinking alcohol since you can have a good time without it and few are that drink moderately. We talked on the phone a year later and he told me he wasn’t going to drink. Why take the chance. This was his decision at 17.
Church should NEVER have moderation. The only things that need moderation are the things that CAN lead to evil. And as with most things that lead to evil, in a virtuous person, they will just remove them all together. This builds virtues, which allows more focus on the GOOD things that we CAN and SHOULD "indulge" in...e.g. prayer, church-life, family, etc.
Honey Badger Although I've come around to agree with you. There should be some balance and be in touch with the current world and how the secular world preceives this life, therefore reaching out for evangelization. Otherwise, that segregation will only become more and more stern, less and less people will hear that the remedy of this world is Jesus and his Bride the Catholic Church. They are on a different wave length which needs to be translated. Right now, the Church isn't doing so well in that effort. Just my thesis. Take it or leave it.
many of us fell into the trap of abusing some of these gifts, therefore abstaining or strictly controlling their use, is the way to treat the gift. The same can be said about food, sex, and others. I am glad you have been graced with the strength to know yourself, to the point that saying "NO" for you is necessary.
As a recent convert to Catholicism, I LOVE the Church's stance on alcohol. I found that as a Baptist, I still drank, but I lied about it, covered it up, and felt guilty. I love that I can share a pint with my fellow Catholic brethren and drink in moderation. Alcohol is much like sex, it's a gift from God, it's not for everyone, and there's a proper time and place. I would add that as a Christian, we should avoid certain settings like seedy bars or clubs where not much good can come out of an encounter there, or you're going to be tempted to do things you shouldn't.

Loved it! Just a small personal point to make on behalf of those like myself who suffer from Alcoholism! As an alcoholic I can not drink alcohol safely (meaning without getting drunk)! So God has made it very clear to me that I must abstain from all alcohol consumption because for me drinking alcohol leads to sin!! GOD BLESS ALL!!

There are several genes that, put together, control production of enzymes that process alcohol in the body. If you've lost the genetic slot machine, you can't drink without becoming addicted. My parents drank in moderation- like, one beer each on Saturday night. Bottles of very good liquor received as gifts were only brought out for company. But, go back another generation, my family looks like Angela's Ashes. My dad explained the risks to me when I was very young. I also knew that women process alcohol less efficiently than men do, get organ damage at much lower levels of consumption, and body mass affects how much you can drink. Well, I'm female, tiny, under 100 pounds dripping wet. Two sips is my limit. So I just decided the risks aren't worth it, I can still have fun with friends with a "virgin" cocktail or a glass of ginger ale. I don't make a big song and dance about it so it's never been an issue.

I think Proverbs 20:1 applies to people like me (emotional addict) who have a past of consuming too much alcohol at once. All things are possible through Christ who strengthens me and I believe I will be able to control my addictions through Christ my Lord.

It relaxes my body after a long day at work and I have to admit that I am also able to pray and feel good with it (not feelings of guilt or conviction in my heart in regards to its use/effects ) I think Our Father doesn’t mind as long as it is kept as a therapeutic use.... what is the church stand on this...?
Alexander Smith so why did Jesus turn water into wine...and then give it to a bunch of people who were already drunk? I respect you if you choose to abstain from alcohol, but please also respect us who choose to drink (in moderation of course.) The Church does not teach that alcohol is bad and drinking is a sin (as Fr Schmitz explains well in this video) Remember Matthew 15:11 where Jesus said that it's not what goes in your mouth that defiles, but it's what comes out that defiles. Let's work together to fight the evil in the world instead of having silly arguments with each other.
I’m 12 yrs sober. I’m so thankful I found you Father. My dad passed away 3yrs ago and I’ve been struggling with my faith and wondering around for a long time. I’m very happy I have found a priest I can relate to and who makes sense to me. Thank You. I am still sober and have stayed committed to that.

My grandpa (rip) is 91 pass away and he is always drink cooler wine 2 glass daily. He’s a great heart and wonderful Catholic family. Grandpa/ma are always going to mass and pray daily and thank God to have wonderful big family!
I know a man who joined his wife in giving up alcohol while they were expectant, to encourage her. I thought that was pretty awesome, and gave alcohol its proper placement in the hierarchy of goods :)

LightOwl I too believe this; however it may have to do with my dad being a drinker. I've always had a deep feeling against it. I feel almost as if God had warned me to stay from it. Some may be able to enjoy it as it is supposed to be, I will continue to stay away. I may drink wine on occasion (not sure yet) but I won't become a "drinker"
Sebastian_69 well, addiction runs in families so if someone in your family has issues with it there is a greater possibility that you could too. Addiction is a gradual thing (slippery slope). Find other ways to relax...prayer, art, exercise, reading, skydiving :).
I am a devout Catholic and I work in the liquor industry as a brand rep; I'm really grateful you made this video, because I've been struggling with the morality of my line of work and whether or not the idea of having a few drinks bringing people together as a good thing was a valid way to look at it. I was working in the industry before I came back to the Church, and since coming back, I thought alcohol could definitely be a gift in some ways, but I just really wasn't sure whether I needed to find a new line of work. I had struggled with drinking to excess in my last job, and I really wanted that to stop if I was going to continue in the industry. But I really wasn't 100% sure if God wanted me to work in that industry at all, but I kept getting interviews and such from other liquor suppliers. I wasn't sure if I was equivocating by participating, if that makes sense. Anyway, thanks for clarifying this! Always love watching your videos.
I can attest to this, as a recovering alcoholic, I unfortunately am powerless over alcohol. The best times were sitting and bonding over drinks with friends…in the beginning. Before I knew it, I was drinking a bottle of whiskey a day. I needed it to get out of bed, on my way to work, during work, on my way home from work, when I got home until I passed out and repeat. I’ve been sober 3 years now and I just started my journey in RCIA and my heart is fluttering with this new found love and excitement. A warning to my fellows, especially those in their early twenties. Be very careful, if you cannot enjoy a couple drinks and call it a day or you find yourself drinking EVERY day, you’re in store for a horrible journey. I used to need whiskey to live, now, all I need is Jesus. Bless you all
I feel more that way with marijuana. I know there are a lot of functional everyday users out there and I am not one of them. A few times I try to smoke on a special occasion and then it then led to me thinking how many vacation, sickdays I got. Or just quit and find a new job and take a month or 2 off just to smoke.
I personally don't drink alcohol and hate the peer pressure that arises when my friends and I go out for a meal. I wish we lived in a culture where not drinking alcohol at all was seen as just as ok as drinking it. But I do agree with Father Mike and can apply it to food. Sometimes when we go out, we go and eat at all-you-can-eat buffets and here it's important to remember to enjoy the food and the company of our friends and live in the moment, not going overboard. Moderation here definitely makes a big impact and learning to have some self-control can contribute to whether you have a great night out with your friends or not. Going overboard here makes you feel worse about yourself on so many levels, not only physically but emotionally, mentally and even spiritually too!
The Sinnoh Firefly I agree. Personally, I do drink (always in moderation of course, and always to enjoy the drink, never to get drunk) but my best friend does not drink and we still go out and have a great time! He doesn't pressure me to not drink and I don't pressure him to drink.

I'm just really glad you and your best friend can go out and this not even be an issue for either of you, no pressure either way, that shows mutual respect and true friendship in my eyes. If you think there is pressure to drink here, go to europe. In part today but in the past the water quality was such that they had to drink ale whiskey and wine because of the distillation process which made it safe to drink. Add in that centuries of this makes it really engrained in the culture. Here our forefathers brought that culture with them but the United States itself has never had to drink alcohol for saftey. The difference is that while Europeans drink a lot they for the most part handle it better. Americans can drink yes but our behaviour when drunk is frowned upon severely by Europeans and our sober friends here.

Funnily enough I’ve just stopped drinking this week after TEN YEARS of trying! Let’s just say it’s been testing my faith! Alcohol can be a gift to enjoy with, but doing so in moderation is key. Once this is achieved for me, it’ll be great and I’m on the right path, thanks be to God!

Thank you for sharing this Father. Only one caveat, some people genetically don’t have a disposition to drink due to alcoholism in their family and must avoid alcohol. Those who don’t have this medical history must ask if they have this discretion of moderation and being. If you start to enjoy too much, pray God protect you from any abuse. He will. Amen.
This is a great topic. Thanks for the insight, Father Mike! I personally drink very rarely, and when I do is a cup of red wine with my parents and super close friends and that's it, and as the father said, I enjoy it. I enjoy being with my friends/family and the wine is a complement. I also don't drink at large parties because you never know if someone adds anything. But I enjoy water or fresh juice lol. Alcohol is dehydrating, but once in a while is good.
This is what im,trying to introduce my siblings and cousins..... i come from a traditional Mexican catholic family and we love to drink but for a while now im trying to explain to my family how were suppose to drink. Great advice for those who can, unfortunately some people don’t have a choice, once they start drinking they cannot stop. Some times it takes a long while to realize we absolutely cannot do what you are suggesting. We lose a lot along the way, a job, relationships, family, friends, our self respect, our selfs. For anyone struggling with drinking please seek help. Many, many people do recover, there is a content life for awaiting you. Much to all those who are struggling. 💕
I have been the designated driver, my whole life until my eyesight made it not safe for me to drive. It only took two times early in college of course for me to find out that alcohol and I were a bad fit. I have found that I can have wonderful conversations Here heartbreaking stories, offer, Counsel, receive Counsel, and laugh, and have a good time with my friends and I do not need alcohol to do it. It isn’t even some thing I think about, but how nice that your parents got to go to someplace that they knew what touch your heart. God bless you good father.❤️🙏

Im not irish but it really bothers me how the world has twisted the feast of St Patrick into a simply a drinking holiday instead of honoring the Saint for what he did for Ireland. Here in the states, its a big deal and its sad to see how young adults get so wasted drunk on that day. It bothers me that even non-believers and non-Catholics “celebrate” St Patrick’s day by drinking. I think its disrespectful to him. Just my opinion

you can usually tell the different in St. Patrick's day celebrations. If it' "St. Patty's Day" you definitely know it's nothing to do with the Saint or Ireland because we would say St. Paddy. I know for the Irish anyway there is usually a vigil or mass on the day which is then followed by celebrations, most usually involving Irish culture (dancing, trad music and of course alcohol). It's the people who don't know what its about and take it too far is the problem

Interestingly enough, this same message can work with relationships too. Enjoy the time with each other, take it slow, don't overdo it, live in the moment and be sure that while in that moment with a group of friends or special someone to live in that moment in a way to that would make God smile.
I too think the same way . God has told us to love each other . But loving someone more than God becomes a sin . So loving itself isn't a sin but can become one when we overdo, just like drinking . When you dont know when to stop that turns into a sin.

This is the one place where I diverge from Catholic ways. I’m part Native American and I was taught by my ancestors that the alcohol has “spirits” or that it is a portal for spirits for some people - depending on how that move/channel energy. For me and how highly sensitive I am I was told I’d be a target for these entities so I don’t touch it - except for when it has been blessed in mass. I was told that because it has been blessed and is being used in a ceremony - it is protected and special . So perhaps if I was at a monastery for dinner and they blessed the wine - then I would. And of course if made by Jesus - no question I’d enjoy that. But the alcohol made and produced today is not blessed and it is therefor not protected so I don’t drink. 🙏🏼🕊

Recently, me and some friends joined in a new community ( I dont know if we say like this in English, but in Portuguese we say "nova comunidade") and we did a vote: for all those who drink too much and offend the Sacred Heart of Jesus, we dont drink alcoholic beverages, as an act of reparation. Well Stated Father Mike! This pretty much is how I feel and I am glad you presented this topic with ease of understanding and the conclusion of why it just makes sense. I will share with my family and friends. I enjoy my glass of wine, a margarita, refreshing tropical spirit with coconut rum. But I know not to go beyond the reasonable limit. It is easy for alcohol to impair our judgement and put us in a grey area. My father drank a lot and because of it. He died at age 59 of cirrhosis of the liver. I have seen friends pass the moderation line and become silly or arrogant or destructive when they drink too much. So... THANKS again for this Simple Truth! God Bless.. Peace & Love

I can no longer drink as a Catholic. Although not an alcoholic, God is asking me a life of total abstinence from any alcohol. I know that the rewards of this abstinence for me will pale in comparison to any happy benefit I might've gained by drinking. And I do love a pint with my peeps, but what God has in store for me, even in this life, is already evident and is worth it to me. It's a very small price to pay for Him & the nest of love He is helping me build in my soul for Him. And the strength of character He is helping me build to be able to bear more weight & burden for others & for The Kingdom. I share this in all humility to say that to each his own spiritually. This is what I am called to. I'm not called to be a priest (ha I'm a woman) nor a carpenter, nor a scholar. But you may be called to those things & each of our callings & gifts are different. I don't judge your spiritual choices (and unless they're clearly destructive I wouldn't say a thing unless you knew you a bit) but we each have our walk with TheLord. Listen to Him.

I used to struggle with alcohol as a non denominational Christian, practically barely functional. I was a functional alcoholic and ventured into the Baptist church. I was doing okay, but I wasn’t happy. I’m going into RCIA now, and a life of moderation after a long time of deep reflection and sobriety. Please pray for me.
I grew up a Sikh and entire my family is Sikh. I am 20 years old right now and know more about Christianity than my own religion. I’ve read the Bible before but it was as a summer school project. I am really conflicted right now on whether I should put all my devotion into Christianity because this is the religion to me that makes the most sense. At the same time I don’t know how my family would react to this as they take their religion very seriously and want me too as well. It’s frustrating.
Believe in Jesus, and put that to practice... "Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven (...) I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn a man against his father, a daughter against her mother (...) a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household. Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me (...) Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it." Mt 10:32-39
As a Catholic I’m really happy that you like Christianity and find it the most reasonable religion. I can understand why your parents would be sad if you converted to a religion they don’t share, but I also believe that as an adult you have the right to search and ask yourself what you truly want to believe. You could also try to pray to God that if He wants you to be Catholic, He gives you strength and clarity. (I’m sorry about the mistakes, I’m Italian).
Hi Flood Empire! It is really so beautiful to read how Jesus has been revealing Himself to you. Truly, those who seek Him WILL find Him and that is exactly what is happening in your life. I am from India too so I understand your situation to an extent. I would say, do what the Spirit inspires you. Life is really short and we have this one life to show our love and devotion to Christ. If you are convinced that this is the truth, I would say, seek out a local Catholic parish and speak to a priest about your situation. Having spiritual guidance during a time of such intense conflicts can really be enlightening. Pray to God to lead you to the right person to talk about this. If that seems daunting, seek out someone you know who is a practising Christian and talk to them about it. Maybe they could then lead you to a priest. Don't be afraid of the love that Christ is pouring in your heart and the possibility of having to turn away from what you've known all along to something relatively new and different. In fact, that's what Jesus asks of us when He says 'Leave your nets behind and follow Me.' Although your parents and family might not take the news too easily, you will reap much more and feel real Christian joy knowing that you were willing to surrender everything just to have Jesus close to you. Moreover, who knows, Jesus might use you as a witness to many other people in your area. Many in India are seeking God and the Truth, just like the ancient Greeks were. But they don't know where to turn to. Surely one of the ways in which they too will find Christ is by seeing someone who has travelled that road - someone like you. Do check out testimonies on TH-cam where many Hindus and Muslims in India turn to Christ. That might give you some hope :) It won't necessarily be an easy journey, but surely will be a saintly one if you really respond to His Grace. May the Spirit grant you all courage and peace in making this decision in your life. If daily prayer and Bible reading are a part of your life, there's surely no turning around. The Spirit will leave you restless until you accept Christ fully. And that's a good restlessness because Christ is calling you higher, closer to His Heart - His wounded Heart. The thing with our Lord Jesus is that once we get to see and experience Him for the beauty that He is, it really is difficult to look elsewhere. Don't let this worry you or scare you excessively. It is God who has brought about this beautiful enlightenment to your heart and it is He who will bring it to completion. All you have to do is say YES to His promptings! God has promised us time and again in the Bible ', I am with you. Be not afraid. Don't let your hearts be troubled. My peace I give to you. Even though you should walk through the darkest valley, fear no evil.' Our God is a good God. He will hold you in His arms and take care of you :') Praying for you :) And may the Lord bless you and your family.

As a catholic when I drink alcohol with my friends in a pub leads to temptation to drugs and lust which is very damaging so I have to be careful with alcohol so I don’t pursue those sins
I find moderation to be difficult in a lot of things in life; it is hard to actually know what moderation even means when it comes to alcohol. I am going to just avoid it altogether.
@@vaughanvanderstarren832 that should be a common sense law tho. I mean, if your parents allowed ypu to drink WITH them, it should be okay. Liquors should be treated like guns; it is better if you learned about it from your father, than from the streets.

This video was super helpful, I have a tough time dealing with moderation, and a past of consuming wayyyyy too much, but this video helped me understand its okay to drink, to enjoy. I drink in moderation now, but its been tough knowing if I am truly in moderation, but this video helped me understand what I'm doing is relatively the right path, with improvement of course!!

I've lived the life of drunkenness, and it wasn't pretty. In fact, it was horrible! After reading the entire Bible, I realized that my drunkenness was absolutely wrong...:( God bless you, Father Mike!
I live in Oxford and have been in that Pub. Very interesting to see the table that the INKLINGS got together. I only drink once in a blue moon. Pubs in Oxford and in England is not only for drinking, but they offer meals, tea and coffee and desserts.
As a non-denominational Christian who was baptized into the Catholic church as an infant, I used to think drinking alcohol was almost a sin and something I really looked down on. My biological father's side of the family are all Irish and strict Roman Catholic. They would get drunk pretty frequently and do some terrible things like beat their wives or cuss out anyone near them. It really painted a bad picture of Catholicism in my mind as a teenager and turned my mother off so much that she'd never let me step inside a Catholic church again. I saw my father get drunk on Saturday night, threaten to kill me, and then go to mass the next day and act like a holy man. He would beat my mother and say he was the priest of the house and she was not a submissive wife. Fast forward a couple of years and my father loses his parental rights for refusing anger management classes and now my teenage brother is a full blown alcoholic who runs away from home, gets 2 DUIs in a row, and ends up on house arrest. I now understand that these experiences have given me a biased opinion not only towards alcohol, but Catholicism as a whole. So understand that many Christians who despise alcohol consumption don't always do so out of legalism, but out of trauma.
I started drinking alcohol since my teenage, spent my whole life fighting alcohol addiction. Also suffered severe depression and mental disorder. Not until my wife recommended me to psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment saved my life honestly. 8 years totally clean. This is something that really need to be use globally to help people with similar health challenges.
YES very sure of Dr.medshrooms. I have the same experience with anxiety, depression, PTSD and addiction and Mushrooms definitely made a huge huge difference to why am clean today.
Yes he's Dr.medshrooms. Shrooms to me is a natrual healer. I know a guy who has used mushrooms in the same way and they have really helped him. mah dudes have safe trips all.
I wish they were readily available in my place. Microdosing was my next plan of care for my husband. He is 59 & has so many mental health issues plus probable CTE & a TBI that left him in a coma 8 days. It's too late now I had to get a TPO as he's 6'6 300+ pound homicidal maniac. He's constantly talking about killing someone. He's violent. Anyone reading this Familiar w/ BPD know if it is common for an obsession with violence.
I was horrifically depressed since childhood. It was relentless. I assumed it would ultimately end me somehow. About twelve years ago I randomly accepted the offer from a friend of a few doses of mushrooms. I did them two consecutive nights alone. First night was pretty mild. The second night? Wow. I saw my depression from every angle, realized much. Next day: depression totally gone. Never came back, never coming back. It's like it's a forest far away I can remember, and could probably find again with enough effort, but it has zero impact on anything in my life or mind. They honestly saved my life and improved it immensely. I never did them again, either. I wish there was a good, organized way to administer them to people who would benefit from them.

My experience is as a whole, 21 year olds don’t have the maturity of restraint. They don’t treat having a good time the same way. It might give them the idea of, yes we can drink. Also better for college students to abstain since they would only be of age to drink in their senior year. I asked my 16 year old grandson to consider not drinking alcohol since you can have a good time without it and few are that drink moderately. We talked on the phone a year later and he told me he wasn’t going to drink. Why take the chance. This was his decision at 17.
My parents always told me "in moderation". Some people go to both extremes. This isn't just for drinking but in many things.

Church should NEVER have moderation. The only things that need moderation are the things that CAN lead to evil. And as with most things that lead to evil, in a virtuous person, they will just remove them all together. This builds virtues, which allows more focus on the GOOD things that we CAN and SHOULD "indulge" in...e.g. prayer, church-life, family, etc.

There should be some balance and be in touch with the current world and how the secular world preceives this life, therefore reaching out for evangelization. Otherwise, that segregation will only become more and more stern, less and less people will hear that the remedy of this world is Jesus and his Bride the Catholic Church. They are on a different wave length which needs to be translated. Right now, the Church isn't doing so well in that effort. Just my thesis. Take it or leave it.

many of us fell into the trap of abusing some of these gifts, therefore abstaining or strictly controlling their use, is the way to treat the gift. The same can be said about food, sex, and others. I am glad you have been graced with the strength to know yourself, to the point that saying "NO" for you is necessary.

As a recent convert to Catholicism, I LOVE the Church's stance on alcohol. I found that as a Baptist, I still drank, but I lied about it, covered it up, and felt guilty. I love that I can share a pint with my fellow Catholic brethren and drink in moderation. Alcohol is much like sex, it's a gift from God, it's not for everyone, and there's a proper time and place. I would add that as a Christian, we should avoid certain settings like seedy bars or clubs where not much good can come out of an encounter there, or you're going to be tempted to do things you shouldn't.

Loved it! Just a small personal point to make on behalf of those like myself who suffer from Alcoholism! As an alcoholic I can not drink alcohol safely (meaning without getting drunk)! So God has made it very clear to me that I must abstain from all alcohol consumption because for me drinking alcohol leads to sin!! GOD BLESS ALL!!

@@MegaCadette55 Check out Alan Carr “The Easy Way to Control Alcohol”. It has some really great insights. It is not a catholic book but the information is extremely beneficial to really just about anyone.
There are several genes that, put together, control production of enzymes that process alcohol in the body. If you've lost the genetic slot machine, you can't drink without becoming addicted. My parents drank in moderation- like, one beer each on Saturday night. Bottles of very good liquor received as gifts were only brought out for company. But, go back another generation, my family looks like Angela's Ashes. My dad explained the risks to me when I was very young. I also knew that women process alcohol less efficiently than men do, get organ damage at much lower levels of consumption, and body mass affects how much you can drink. Well, I'm female, tiny, under 100 pounds dripping wet. Two sips is my limit. So I just decided the risks aren't worth it, I can still have fun with friends with a "virgin" cocktail or a glass of ginger ale. I don't make a big song and dance about it so it's never been an issue.

I think Proverbs 20:1 applies to people like me (emotional addict) who have a past of consuming too much alcohol at once.
All things are possible through Christ who strengthens me and I believe I will be able to control my addictions through Christ my Lord.

Alexander Smith so why did Jesus turn water into wine...and then give it to a bunch of people who were already drunk? I respect you if you choose to abstain from alcohol, but please also respect us who choose to drink (in moderation of course.) The Church does not teach that alcohol is bad and drinking is a sin (as Fr Schmitz explains well in this video) Remember Matthew 15:11 where Jesus said that it's not what goes in your mouth that defiles, but it's what comes out that defiles. Let's work together to fight the evil in the world instead of having silly arguments with each other.

My grandpa (rip) is 91 pass away and he is always drink cooler wine 2 glass daily. He’s a great heart and wonderful Catholic family. Grandpa/ma are always going to mass and pray daily and thank God to have wonderful big family!
I know a man who joined his wife in giving up alcohol while they were expectant, to encourage her. I thought that was pretty awesome, and gave alcohol its proper placement in the hierarchy of goods :)

LightOwl I too believe this; however it may have to do with my dad being a drinker. I've always had a deep feeling against it. I feel almost as if God had warned me to stay from it. Some may be able to enjoy it as it is supposed to be, I will continue to stay away. I may drink wine on occasion (not sure yet) but I won't become a "drinker"
Sebastian_69 well, addiction runs in families so if someone in your family has issues with it there is a greater possibility that you could too. Addiction is a gradual thing (slippery slope). Find other ways to relax...prayer, art, exercise, reading, skydiving :).

I am a devout Catholic and I work in the liquor industry as a brand rep; I'm really grateful you made this video, because I've been struggling with the morality of my line of work and whether or not the idea of having a few drinks bringing people together as a good thing was a valid way to look at it. I was working in the industry before I came back to the Church, and since coming back, I thought alcohol could definitely be a gift in some ways, but I just really wasn't sure whether I needed to find a new line of work. I had struggled with drinking to excess in my last job, and I really wanted that to stop if I was going to continue in the industry. But I really wasn't 100% sure if God wanted me to work in that industry at all, but I kept getting interviews and such from other liquor suppliers. I wasn't sure if I was equivocating by participating, if that makes sense. Anyway, thanks for clarifying this! Always love watching your videos.

I can attest to this, as a recovering alcoholic, I unfortunately am powerless over alcohol. The best times were sitting and bonding over drinks with friends…in the beginning. Before I knew it, I was drinking a bottle of whiskey a day. I needed it to get out of bed, on my way to work, during work, on my way home from work, when I got home until I passed out and repeat. I’ve been sober 3 years now and I just started my journey in RCIA and my heart is fluttering with this new found love and excitement. A warning to my fellows, especially those in their early twenties. Be very careful, if you cannot enjoy a couple drinks and call it a day or you find yourself drinking EVERY day, you’re in store for a horrible journey. I used to need whiskey to live, now, all I need is Jesus. Bless you all

I feel more that way with marijuana. I know there are a lot of functional everyday users out there and I am not one of them. A few times I try to smoke on a special occasion and then it then led to me thinking how many vacation, sickdays I got. Or just quit and find a new job and take a month or 2 off just to smoke.

I personally don't drink alcohol and hate the peer pressure that arises when my friends and I go out for a meal. I wish we lived in a culture where not drinking alcohol at all was seen as just as ok as drinking it. But I do agree with Father Mike and can apply it to food. Sometimes when we go out, we go and eat at all-you-can-eat buffets and here it's important to remember to enjoy the food and the company of our friends and live in the moment, not going overboard. Moderation here definitely makes a big impact and learning to have some self-control can contribute to whether you have a great night out with your friends or not. Going overboard here makes you feel worse about yourself on so many levels, not only physically but emotionally, mentally and even spiritually too!
The Sinnoh Firefly I agree. Personally, I do drink (always in moderation of course, and always to enjoy the drink, never to get drunk) but my best friend does not drink and we still go out and have a great time! He doesn't pressure me to not drink and I don't pressure him to drink.

I'm just really glad you and your best friend can go out and this not even be an issue for either of you, no pressure either way, that shows mutual respect and true friendship in my eyes. I don't drink alcohol either and completely understand this! People can get weird about it. Bizarre.
If you think there is pressure to drink here, go to europe. In part today but in the past the water quality was such that they had to drink ale whiskey and wine because of the distillation process which made it safe to drink. Add in that centuries of this makes it really engrained in the culture. Here our forefathers brought that culture with them but the United States itself has never had to drink alcohol for saftey. The difference is that while Europeans drink a lot they for the most part handle it better. Americans can drink yes but our behaviour when drunk is frowned upon severely by Europeans and our sober friends here.
Real friends don't use peer pressure and will respect your values.

Those who don’t have this medical history must ask if they have this discretion of moderation and being. If you start to enjoy too much, pray God protect you from any abuse. He will. Amen.

I personally drink very rarely, and when I do is a cup of red wine with my parents and super close friends and that's it, and as the father said, I enjoy it. I enjoy being with my friends/family and the wine is a complement.
I also don't drink at large parties because you never know if someone adds anything.
But I enjoy water or fresh juice lol. Alcohol is dehydrating, but once in a while is good.

This is what im,trying to introduce my siblings and cousins..... i come from a traditional Mexican catholic family and we love to drink but for a while now im trying to explain to my family how were suppose to drink. Great advice for those who can, unfortunately some people don’t have a choice, once they start drinking they cannot stop. Some times it takes a long while to realize we absolutely cannot do what you are suggesting. We lose a lot along the way, a job, relationships, family, friends, our self respect, our selfs. For anyone struggling with drinking please seek help. Many, many people do recover, there is a content life for awaiting you. Much to all those who are struggling. 💕

I have been the designated driver, my whole life until my eyesight made it not safe for me to drive. It only took two times early in college of course for me to find out that alcohol and I were a bad fit. I have found that I can have wonderful conversations Here heartbreaking stories, offer, Counsel, receive Counsel, and laugh, and have a good time with my friends and I do not need alcohol to do it. It isn’t even some thing I think about, but how nice that your parents got to go to someplace that they knew what touch your heart. God bless you good father.❤️🙏

Im not irish but it really bothers me how the world has twisted the feast of St Patrick into a simply a drinking holiday instead of honoring the Saint for what he did for Ireland. Here in the states, its a big deal and its sad to see how young adults get so wasted drunk on that day. It bothers me that even non-believers and non-Catholics “celebrate” St Patrick’s day by drinking. I think its disrespectful to him. Just my opinion

you can usually tell the different in St. Patrick's day celebrations. If it' "St. Patty's Day" you definitely know it's nothing to do with the Saint or Ireland because we would say St. Paddy. I know for the Irish anyway there is usually a vigil or mass on the day which is then followed by celebrations, most usually involving Irish culture (dancing, trad music and of course alcohol). It's the people who don't know what its about and take it too far is the problem

Interestingly enough, this same message can work with relationships too. Enjoy the time with each other, take it slow, don't overdo it, live in the moment and be sure that while in that moment with a group of friends or special someone to live in that moment in a way to that would make God smile.
I too think the same way . God has told us to love each other . But loving someone more than God becomes a sin . So loving itself isn't a sin but can become one when we overdo, just like drinking . When you dont know when to stop that turns into a sin.

This is the one place where I diverge from Catholic ways. I’m part Native American and I was taught by my ancestors that the alcohol has “spirits” or that it is a portal for spirits for some people - depending on how that move/channel energy. For me and how highly sensitive I am I was told I’d be a target for these entities so I don’t touch it - except for when it has been blessed in mass. I was told that because it has been blessed and is being used in a ceremony - it is protected and special . So perhaps if I was at a monastery for dinner and they blessed the wine - then I would. And of course if made by Jesus - no question I’d enjoy that. But the alcohol made and produced today is not blessed and it is therefor not protected so I don’t drink. 🙏🏼🕊

Well Stated Father Mike! This pretty much is how I feel and I am glad you presented this topic with ease of understanding and the conclusion of why it just makes sense. I will share with my family and friends. I enjoy my glass of wine, a margarita, refreshing tropical spirit with coconut rum. But I know not to go beyond the reasonable limit. It is easy for alcohol to impair our judgement and put us in a grey area. My father drank a lot and because of it. He died at age 59 of cirrhosis of the liver. I have seen friends pass the moderation line and become silly or arrogant or destructive when they drink too much. So... THANKS again for this Simple Truth!

I can no longer drink as a Catholic. Although not an alcoholic, God is asking me a life of total abstinence from any alcohol. I know that the rewards of this abstinence for me will pale in comparison to any happy benefit I might've gained by drinking. And I do love a pint with my peeps, but what God has in store for me, even in this life, is already evident and is worth it to me. It's a very small price to pay for Him & the nest of love He is helping me build in my soul for Him. And the strength of character He is helping me build to be able to bear more weight & burden for others & for The Kingdom.
I share this in all humility to say that to each his own spiritually. This is what I am called to. I'm not called to be a priest (ha I'm a woman) nor a carpenter, nor a scholar. But you may be called to those things & each of our callings & gifts are different. I used to struggle with alcohol as a non denominational Christian, practically barely functional. I was a functional alcoholic and ventured into the Baptist church. I was doing okay, but I wasn’t happy. I’m going into RCIA now, and a life of moderation after a long time of deep reflection and sobriety. Please pray for me.

I grew up a Sikh and entire my family is Sikh. I am 20 years old right now and know more about Christianity than my own religion. I’ve read the Bible before but it was as a summer school project. I am really conflicted right now on whether I should put all my devotion into Christianity because this is the religion to me that makes the most sense. At the same time I don’t know how my family would react to this as they take their religion very seriously and want me too as well. It’s frustrating.

As a Catholic I’m really happy that you like Christianity and find it the most reasonable religion.
I can understand why your parents would be sad if you converted to a religion they don’t share, but I also believe that as an adult you have the right to search and ask yourself what you truly want to believe.
You could also try to pray to God that if He wants you to be Catholic, He gives you strength and clarity.

Hi Flood Empire! It is really so beautiful to read how Jesus has been revealing Himself to you. Truly, those who seek Him WILL find Him and that is exactly what is happening in your life. I am from India too so I understand your situation to an extent. I would say, do what the Spirit inspires you. Life is really short and we have this one life to show our love and devotion to Christ. If you are convinced that this is the truth, I would say, seek out a local Catholic parish and speak to a priest about your situation. Having spiritual guidance during a time of such intense conflicts can really be enlightening. Pray to God to lead you to the right person to talk about this. If that seems daunting, seek out someone you know who is a practising Christian and talk to them about it. Maybe they could then lead you to a priest.
Don't be afraid of the love that Christ is pouring in your heart and the possibility of having to turn away from what you've known all along to something relatively new and different. In fact, that's what Jesus asks of us when He says 'Leave your nets behind and follow Me.' Although your parents and family might not take the news too easily, you will reap much more and feel real Christian joy knowing that you were willing to surrender everything just to have Jesus close to you. Moreover, who knows, Jesus might use you as a witness to many other people in your area. Many in India are seeking God and the Truth, just like the ancient Greeks were. But they don't know where to turn to. Surely one of the ways in which they too will find Christ is by seeing someone who has travelled that road - someone like you. Do check out testimonies on TH-cam where many Hindus and Muslims in India turn to Christ. That might give you some hope :)
It won't necessarily be an easy journey, but surely will be a saintly one if you really respond to His Grace. May the Spirit grant you all courage and peace in making this decision in your life. If daily prayer and Bible reading are a part of your life, there's surely no turning around. The Spirit will leave you restless until you accept Christ fully. And that's a good restlessness because Christ is calling you higher, closer to His Heart - His wounded Heart. The thing with our Lord Jesus is that once we get to see and experience Him for the beauty that He is, it really is difficult to look elsewhere.
Don't let this worry you or scare you excessively. It is God who has brought about this beautiful enlightenment to your heart and it is He who will bring it to completion. All you have to do is say YES to His promptings! God has promised us time and again in the Bible ', I am with you. Be not afraid. Don't let your hearts be troubled. My peace I give to you. Even though you should walk through the darkest valley, fear no evil.' Our God is a good God. He will hold you in His arms and take care of you :')

As a catholic when I drink alcohol with my friends in a pub leads to temptation to drugs and lust which is very damaging so I have to be careful with alcohol so I don’t pursue those sins

I find moderation to be difficult in a lot of things in life; it is hard to actually know what moderation even means when it comes to alcohol. I am going to just avoid it altogether.

Go to Britain and suddenly you don’t have to be over twenty-one-or just ask your parents if you can have alcohol with them, because that’s legal.
@@vaughanvanderstarren832 that should be a common sense law tho. I mean, if your parents allowed ypu to drink WITH them, it should be okay. Liquors should be treated like guns; it is better if you learned about it from your father, than from the streets.

This video was super helpful, I have a tough time dealing with moderation, and a past of consuming wayyyyy too much, but this video helped me understand its okay to drink, to enjoy. I drink in moderation now, but its been tough knowing if I am truly in moderation, but this video helped me understand what I'm doing is relatively the right path, with improvement of course!!

I've lived the life of drunkenness, and it wasn't pretty. In fact, it was horrible! After reading the entire Bible, I realized that my drunkenness was absolutely wrong...:(

I live in Oxford and have been in that Pub. Very interesting to see the table that the INKLINGS got together. I only drink once in a blue moon. Pubs in Oxford and in England is not only for drinking, but they offer meals, tea and coffee and desserts.

As a non-denominational Christian who was baptized into the Catholic church as an infant, I used to think drinking alcohol was almost a sin and something I really looked down on.
My biological father's side of the family are all Irish and strict Roman Catholic. They would get drunk pretty frequently and do some terrible things like beat their wives or cuss out anyone near them. It really painted a bad picture of Catholicism in my mind as a teenager and turned my mother off so much that she'd never let me step inside a Catholic church again.
I saw my father get drunk on Saturday night, threaten to kill me, and then go to mass the next day and act like a holy man. He would beat my mother and say he was the priest of the house and she was not a submissive wife.
Fast forward a couple of years and my father loses his parental rights for refusing anger management classes and now my teenage brother is a full blown alcoholic who runs away from home, gets 2 DUIs in a row, and ends up on house arrest.
I now understand that these experiences have given me a biased opinion not only towards alcohol, but Catholicism as a whole. So understand that many Christians who despise alcohol consumption don't always do so out of legalism, but out of trauma.
I'm sorry that you had to endure that. Your father was not a good example of how any Christian should be. (((Hugs))) 🙏🙏🙏
