So with regards to David getting tortured by Jimmy Kurosaki (aka JK, the guy they were trying to nab) - JK basically put him into a braindance while David was unconscious. Braindances basically play an experience in the mind of the "viewer" that the viewer quite literally experiences from the point of the person who recorded the Braindance. They not only experience things visually, they also get full sensory experience. So they feel all the pain, emotions, smells, touches etc that the person who recorded it experienced. So JK chipped him into a recorded braindance of a cyberpsycho getting taken down by a police MaxTac unit.
