Produce 101: Where Are They Now?

- Produce 101 was a survival show which ran from January to April of 2016 in which 101 female industry trainees battled it out to be one of the top 11 to debut in Korea's new national girl group. The show was a huge success and sparked many spin-off seasons, not only in Korea but other East Asian countries. The most voted contestants debuted as I.O.I in May 2016, but many of the girls on the show have gone on to thrive within the idol industry. Here is a video to update everyone on each girl's whereabouts and activities within the five years since Produce 101 originally aired.
I'm sorry if any of the info here is wrong if I've missed anything, I tried to research as thoroughly as possible but some of the girls don't have a lot of information about them out there.

Hello everyone! This video is over a year old now and has gotten some traction, so I thought I would dedicate this comment thread to let you guys know of some updates about the PD101 girls :)
Lee Chaelin (#87) has likely left Fanatics & FENT as her info has been removed from the group's TH-cam channel
ARIAZ - the group of Kim Yunji (#84) & Kang Sihyeon (#61) - disbanded in April 2022
Hwang Riyu (#66) was set to debut in I.G under Coville Inc, but the group disbanded before debut in August 2021
LUNARSOLAR - Lim Taeryeong's (#57) group - disbanded in May 2022. Taeryeong now releases covers on her YT channel: th-cam.com/users/c%ED%83%9C%EB%A0%B9TAERYEONG
CLC - Kwon Eunbin's (#35) group - disbanded in May 2022
I'm still mad at the talented wasted with Pristin and Gugudan... Their companies did them dirty

Pledis really did fuck up I'm a cart but I know if they actually gave pristin a chance they would have become bigger than seventeen and become a top girl group

Literally they didn't even try. Pristin makes me the most angry because Pledis already had great songwriting talent in-house and in-group that they could have used and they squandered it.
Pristin and Gugudan could have been the biggest ggs if Pledis and Jellyfish treated them properly...
i will never forgive them for disbanding those two groups
Sad to see only 6 of the 11 I.O.I members still have an idol career in 2021.
They were all so talented.
Jeon Soyeon is probably the most successful non-IOI contestant
she also arguably more successful than the ioi contestants lol

Pretty sure the company had to plans of deducting dreamcatcher at that time, or adding any of those girls in as the group on Produce seemed preprepared to debut
them leaving probably signals that they didn’t make the cut
One that stayed is their performance director
happyface had another debut planned in 2015 after "minx" debuted. In the same year, one of the members left, and then Happyface announced Minx's disbandment and redebut, cancelling Die.A Project's plans. (All members went to produce 101)
Or they left because they weren’t going to be in it
Somi has almost 2 years being soloist and she only has three songs.
While Chungha releases the same amount in...one month 😩😩 Granted, Somi did film a bunch of variety shows and switched companies but I just wish her company took her more seriously as an idol instead of as just a money-making model essentially. It’s not so much her fault as poor management

Pristin, Gugudan, and Hinapia had so much talent..
only if the companies gave then the treatment they deserved...
Gugudan is cancelled
not hinapia. the company works so hard but they cant do anything if they have no money. hinapia was a super risky step but you know they cant even pay to perform on mnet. the mv was cancelled due to being over sensual. they had overwork to re edit the mv.
so in hinapia's case its not the company didnt treat them well, they did, but they failed.
as gugudan and pristin, hell yeah the company really made a bad job

1. Chungha - well known in korea and internationally
2. Soyeon - known for rap and mostly for her group
3. Sejeong - was very well known back in ioi as an idol but more popular as an actress and solo
4. Somi - still well known in korea and international. Could've level her ioi popularity if she has more songs.
5. Yeonjung - I'm not sure for her ever since she got added to wjsn but they get wins in their comebacks and decent sales.
6. Sihyeon - popular internationally. Yuehua is a chinese company so i guess that's why it's hard for them to be liked in korea.
7. Mina - acting. Widely known for her part in Hotel del luna
8. Kyulkyung - not sure. Mostly in china.
10. Doyeon & Yoojung still promoting with wkmk. Chaeyeon acting. Sohye acting. Nayoung started acting too.
Would love to see an ioi reunion
wjsn sales are actually, and yeonjung won some mnet show that crowned her the vocal queen so she's doing really well
Sejeong is not success in her solo most of her solo even can't reach 1 million even after years

Saw Kyulkyung on a Chinese show with Gidle's Yuqi, Yammy and Lexi Liu, don't think she won but it was good to see her still singing.
And from all the eliminated trainees only Kim SIhyeon (Everglow) and Jeon Soyeon (G-IDLE) made it big outside Korea

@@binwooyoo1023 I wouldn’t say that tbh..... they really rely on so much international attention (views don’t always matter). Korea seems to be ignoring them. They don’t sell as well and have a hard time charting but with yena likely joining that might change

sejeong’s company sabotaged her so much it’s crazy how popular she is still. uncanny counter boosted her popularity even more and just released her second mini album! she’s an amazing songwriter and is composing her own songs now
And now "Business Proposal" did very well.
Hwang Sooyeon was 39th place but she's 100% a success story!!! She joined the dance crew established by SM's longtime performance director Jae Shim so she danced with artists like BoA, Taemin, & Taeyeon - you can see her as a backup dancer in pretty much all their performances 2017-19! There's a lot of dance videos if you look up Keens crew on youtube but they haven't posted in a while. Now she's a performance director/ choreographer for Dreamcatcher (since Deja Vu era) - good for her, since she was originally a trainee under their company :')
imagine going from being an idol to being an pilates instructor. im happy for her tho, shes probably living her best life out of the idol industry
Kim Suhyun is also an actress!
Hwang Sooyeon also choreographs for Dreamcatcher alongside being a performance manager.
Beside the top 11 or IOI, Soyeon(G-IDLE) , Sihyeon(Everglow) & Sohee(Nature) were quite successful idols

It seems in Korea Sejeong & Chungha are the most loved ones ..
Chungha is at her peak with her impeccable music while Sejeong is known to gp either by her popular drama names or numerous variety appearances & definitely for healing music fairy .
Just a little update - rank 69 Kim Suhyeon debuted in Billie as Suhyeon on November 10th 2021, their most recent release was a few months ago with Gingamingayo (they the ones who went viral for facial expressions)
so those who have a pretty successful career are : chungha as the most successful one, soyeon as a very recognized talent with her group doing super great, sihyeon's grout doing super great internationally and pretty good in sokor, somi is also doing pretty great although having only a few songs but they're all commercially successful and she maintained her fame.
those who are doing kinda great to meh are : zhou jieqiong is sure earning money and has a huge fandom but she kinda lacks works that are widely recognizable (like chungha's songs or soyeon's production skills and her groups' songs), yoojung and doyeon with weki meki but the group isn't that popular, kim sejeong is doing pretty great too in sokor i guess but it don't see her anymore on my social medias
U forgot about yeonjung (wjsn).. she sing a lot of ost,, win 1st place on V-1 show, wjsn also sold 100k+ for their neverland album.. wjsn also very famous at korea,, the airport is full with their fans during as you wish fansign at china

honestly everyglow only has international fame but she sure is one of the most successful!
I think Chungha is far more successful than Sihyeon...she’s one of the few successful soloists who is consistently releasing music. I love Everglow but they’re not as big in SK as they are internationally.

Kulkyung is succes in china too
For me its chungha for 1st. Yeonjung higher than sihyeon, wjsn is pretty popular in Korea compared to everglow international popularity, jieqiong is v successful in China too
@@ube8121 I put Soyeon first because as GIDLE, they have more sales and views than Chungha. She also makes her own music which would probably boost her bank account. Between sihyeon and Yeonjeung I looked at their potential. Of course Yeonjung is talented and amazing of course,but even in WJSN people completely forget about her. In sihyeons case, she just debuted so we can give her some time. Btw IOI is my second fav group after IZONE ! 😊

You can argue all day but the most successful one from PD101 is Soyeon. Chungha is my second pick with a close margin and Sejeong is third. 🤗
Just research a bit to understand why (G)I-DLE could never be where they're now without Soyeon. From songwriting and producing since debut to choreographing to concept design for albums and stages to costume design to MV set design to makeup input, she's always associated with (G)I-DLE more than anyone else. Also, remember that she wasn't in the final lineup of IOI, unlike Chungha and Sejeong who have got a much lengthier career than Soyeon.
In short, (G)I-DLE is Soyeon, Soyeon is (G)I-DLE. Excluding any member from (G)I-DLE might hamper the group's activities but if the member's name is Soyeon, (G)I-DLE will have the heaviest damage. 🙌
Love her, and all of Gidle, feels like CUBE is trying to drain the life out of her though. Can't forget her KDA and True Damage stints as well, she'll always be the voice of Akali to me.

In my opinion, soyeon and chungha was the most successful in pd101. Many korean also agreed on that statement (i saw in one of pd101 video, that korean comment has a lot of likes. They said chungha and soyeon is the only one most successful in pd101. As they always on top trending search , and most mentioned everywhere. ).

sejeong - no debate, is in Uncanny Counter, is in TV a lot with variety, cf etc.
chungha - successful and well-known soloist, variety, cf
soyeon - the most well-known member for general public in g-idle
somi as a soloist + tv, mina with acting and cfs
then the rest but Chaeyeon is pretty successful too
