Great video! I can see now why I am stuck being in intermediate player. All the points you touch upon really hit the nail. Really helpfull video! I think another great question is how to be less tense in tournaments? What can you do to prepare yourself mentally? I personally tend to be more tense compared to training even if it is a competitive training session.
Thanks Wesley! That’s great to hear 😊 this seems to be a regular theme! We’ll do a video on this at some point but we think the main thing to focus on is focusing on enjoying the experience. Control what you can control and accept nervous thoughts then focus on playing your game and enjoy doing so :)
I have visited this video several time and it really helped me recognize and correct my common mistakes. Here is a note for when I come here in the future. 1. Trying to win a point to early, Solution: play a less risky shot to put your opponent in an awkward position. 2. Hitting too many hard shots Solution: use hard shot when it won't put you in a bad position. Use other shots like net shots and smash to right hip. 3. Lifting quality and quantity (first 3 shots of rally and lifting too short) Solution: use net or mid court area 4. Being tense Solution: think about the contact point with your racket handle. (Thinking about prolonging the rally also help) 5. Wrong racket position (holding your racket too low) Solution: hold it at hip height
Been watching most of the videos since 2021, both of you brought out so many helpful tips that were not covered in my training even for 3 years time. These guides were super practical and useful, thank you for being so kind and not holding back sharing from your pro experience. Keep up the good job. Regards from Malaysia!
iam 14 years old, and on june 12 i have pbad(philippine badminton association) tournament, and Im watching ur vids today how to improve my mental mind and positive thinking because my mental is weak I always think about the negative things like "what if I lose", "what if I caused to lose", but all thanks to you guys I have improved my mindest.
One of the biggest improvements to my game was getting a good pair of shoes! Having confidence that my feet weren't going to slip allowed me to move around the court quicker and go for shots I otherwise wouldn't - not to mention a quicker recovery time after a lunge!
@@BadmintonInsight Yes, definitely I played with eleven year old babolat rackets and then when I switched to new yonex racktes I suddenly realized that my old rackets had basically lost all flexibility and felt like playing badminotn with ping pong rackets instead, severely limiting the quality of the shots I was playing. I always thought, why buy new rackets, when the old ones are not broken, but rackets definitely can become too old! How long do you play your rackets until you switch to new ones?
Great video ! I've struggled a lot with mistake number 4 but it didn't impact my shot that much.It rather made it really hard for me to reach net shots and deep court shots, especially since I'm a short player. I couldn't quite figure out what the problem was since my shadow was good but I was never able to reproduce it in a match. I found out after a tough 3 hours session in a boiling hall. I was so tired that I was fully relaxed but still going for the shuttles, even the hardest ones. I realised that I was actually way faster than usual because my legs were relaxed. I haven't gotten many occasions to play ever since that day but I'll definitely be working on that as soon as possible. Thank you for all your tips !
Wow, spot on on all the mistakes. I get a sense that improving you tactics and mental readiness and ability to read the game are more important at this level than technical skills
connecting the loosely held grip to actually being less tense in mind is one brilliant connection you propose (I think you might be on to something), definitely gonna try it...thank you for all your videos!
Yes, correct, good video, I figured these things out over the last decades myself but this video can definitely speed up the process for newer players!
This was so helpful, I did the first thing which is building up the rally, I won 21-17!, well wasn't 21-17, but it was 20-17 cause during match point my coach told me and my friends to do some physical training, besides that, thank you so much for the advice, thank you!
What you explained reminds me of how Chen Long plays on court. His grep and racket position is soooo standard and textbook-example and is very good for everyone to mimic.
Thank you! I really liked the TRME ad combined with the tips, definitely a nice transition and makes it much more entertaining. Also definitely agree, bad lifts, trying to win early, always hitting hard are all stuff I regularly do 😂
Damn... THIS is so spot on ! I couldn't help but smile during the video because that is exactly what our coach told us in our last training session ! Thanks you so much for the video ! Never stop doing the best content in the entire universe ! We love you ! Cheers
as ya'll said, i can't make a rally, i just want to win in just 3-4 shots and second i know that i have to be calm but you know i just couldn't on the court so i don't know how to fix that but i'll apply this in my game. thank you and love you both ❤️🔥👍😀
You guys are amazing and this is my favourite badminton channel. I was holding the grip wrong this whole time and I saw your video and now I’ve improved a lot because of that.
nice video and good points, especially 3 re minimizing lifts and making only high quality lifts when you must lift (i'm not saying this to flatter, but for that i recommend watching jen's lifts whenever you can-- they are awesome). and 6, thinking too much about gear, which i put under the larger category of thinking about things that dont matter much instead of investing in the daily hard work that builds skills, athleticism, and understanding of sport. the right answer to the question, what racket and string tension do you use is usually: doesnt matter, ask me something else. you used a device in this video in the lower left portion of the screen that i appreciated very much, where a small box states the topic and shows a progress bar. thanks for all your hard work putting out quality content. it's pretty amazing how you guys take the time to do this, and it shows awesome discipline and time-management that you fit this in every week
Thank you very much for this comment! We have just found it when searching for 'progress bar' in the comments to see if people like it! Will use it in our next video because of your comment 😀
Great video. Greg pretending tp be tense has to be the best part. You guys are so naturally relaxed and confident on the court that he has to bring out all his acting skills to look tense. 😂😂😂😂.
Nice video. For me physical should not be a bonus tip. Most intermediate players get drained if the rally goes more than 10 shots so we lose the patience and try to hit match winning points from difficult area. The faster we position ourselves with better balance and control will give us the confident to take drop shots and smash.
Couldn't disagree with any of the mistakes highlighted, all very very true. When playing lifts, one little trick I use and advise players who I've coached is to keep an eye on your opponents feet when they are about to play their shot, if their feet are not in the rear tramlines (at least) then you need to try and correct when next lifting. Ideally their feet need to be on the rear line. Awesome video's guys, keep up the good work.
Super vídeo, definitely going to be fixing these to beat my dad , very cool to seeing you guys in Nantes airport, hopefully we are seeing you playing next time !
Hey Greg and Jenny! Great video! Do you have any tips for making less mistakes? Missing shuttles, hitting the rim etc. In your opinion, is it experience? Technique? Psychology? Footwork?
I think those tips are applicable to advanced players too. Perhaps not to the same level but certainly they can be the root of cause. And ❤️ the topic timer bars 👌
Hey Guys, it's been really game changing moment for me after watching this video and i got the results on DAY ONE. OMG! It's been amazing. Keep up the good work and really looking forward to play with you.
Hi Greg and Jenny, you should make a video on positioning mistakes. Upon watching other channels I learned some of my mistakes include not putting more weight on my dominant foot for push-off, and where my feet are positioned. I think some audiences may not know about doubles rotation. I think these will be great topics to cover
Hi Simon! We’ve probably covered lots of these on previous tutorials related to certain shots! We’ve also covered doubles rotations a while back on the channel :)
Great video guys. Patience is probably the hardest for me, especially when playing against higher level opponents. I get so anxious about making the first mistake that I try too hard on the half chances, which I guess relates to being tense mentally too.
That's definitely applicable at all levels of the game, not just for intermediate players! We feel like we have to play 'perfect' badminton against better players, but this means we're more likely to make mistakes which is exactly the opposite of what you want to do! It's about taking calculated risks and chances, but not too crazy that you're making loads of mistakes. Hope that makes sense!
You guys are always knowing what exactly we need to know and make a video .You guys are just so amazing! Loved this one too as usual;) I'm surely gonna use these in my game! Thank you very much Greg And Jenny!
Great video, thank you 👍 I would also say doing a split step consciously makes everyone a lot faster and avoids starting too early or being a target of deceptions and late shots
Another awesome insights, thanks guys! Definitely all of them applies to me, and it is always good to get reminded of the common errors. Also great job on the video quality! One question: is there any routine you do between the rallies to calm the nerves and get less tense? I try to rotate the racket in my hand and inhale the air slowly - kind of works a little but not easy to always relax especially in a close game.
Thank you so much Yutaka 🤗 Glad we could help you! If we're feeling extra nervous/tense we might re-tie our shoelaces, grab a drink, or towel down... This helps us just take a moment and slow the game down so we're not rushing through the points and can remain focused on our tactics! Hope that helps a bit :)
Fantastic video guys, very well thought of and great breakdown of the key areas. The hard work you guys are putting in making these clips is very much appreciated. Many thanks
Building rallies and not hitting hard every shot from rear court, Raacquet head down even being near the court....🤭🤭🤭...thank you so much. Still lot of struggle remains but found the direction.
I can't agree more with bonus mistake #6. I've played many players that insists on buying "JP" (Japan market) Yonex racquets vs the exact same model for their local market (SP in my case). These JP racquets can easily be at a 30% premium, but I assure you they do not become 30% better as a player!
Congratulations and all the best for your future videos❤❤ The next video is about badminton faults and shuttle types 👍 Learn more about how to hit the high serve in doubles🙁💔 I am from sri lanka 🎉♥️
Wow, great content Jenny and Greg, you've really developed your channel into something unique on TH-cam. Thoroughly deserving of your rapidly climbing subs.
Something I noticed is that being calm mentally goes hand in hand with patience when it comes to shots and the ability to think better. For example, a lesser skilled player may not necessarily think about their return of serve or their serve in general. These things require patience, thought, and control to properly execute. A calm player or just someone who is less tense mentally could do exactly that which will improve their game.
Love the topic-ticker in the bottom lh corner. Very useful. Is now the time to own up to just having bought a Nanoflare 800? Perhaps not after this video but then you guys could beat me wearing flip-flops and holding a kipper. But, boy, do I look sharp as I walk off in defeat😉!
Thank you very much for the video. Please do make a video on shots we should not play from a certain position as this would create gaps in our side of the court and the opponents could easily exploit it
Thanks for badminton tips as always. I am wondering if you could make a video with tips in double when your partner with a beginner, or a player which for instance has a weak clear and so on. So that if ever you are partnered with a beginner you can still have a good game against stronger opponents.
Great video, definitely guilty of all of those at different times, especially trying to hit too hard too often! One idea for a video, how about one on the third shot in doubles, positioning of the server and partner, what shot selections you should go for etc. One problem you often find as the servers partner, getting good vision of the shuttle can be difficult, maybe the server needs to adopt a lower stance straight after the serve, things like that.
Percentage badminton always a big thing. If you miss 50% of shots where you slam it in to the net maybe do a different shot in those instances 😅 Thanks for this, was useful. For me, I’ve come to realise I lift it because if I drop from a serve I don’t trust my partner to play a good shot next. It’s fairly hard to analyse yourself 😵💫
Being tense and trying to finish too early is somehow connected to my smashes. I noticed that I tried to commit 100% power to my smashes so that accuracy and techniqie was not there anymore. To me it really helped to just plau with about 40% power and focus on precision. But being loose actuallt creates more snap to my shots in the long run

I am a state level badminton player from India. Have been practicing the sport since 5-6 years now. Recently I have started long distance running as well. I generally do 10-20 km in the morning and train in the evening. Would running for long distances affect my footwork speed in badminton ? Should I reduce the distance or should I continue running the same way ( as it might also help in developing my stamina which will in turn be helpful in my game ) and practice footwork more often ? Btw, I have no professional coach as of now and have learnt everything from your videos. Thanks for your efforts ❤️
Great video you two. Can you do another video on equipment its so difficult for intermediate players to select rackets most if us don't have benefit of trying loads so tend to get influenced on price I guess rather than the huge variety out there and with most High streets shops going and everything moving online it's getting even harder.

Thank you very much for the video. Please do make a video on shots we should not play from a certain position as this would create gaps in our side of the court and the opponents could easily exploit it
Thank you guys to this amazing video tutorial I’ll follow every time I watch this video…
That's awesome to hear! Glad we could help :)
Thanks for badminton tips as always. I am wondering if you could make a video with tips in double when your partner with a beginner, or a player which for instance has a weak clear and so on. So that if ever you are partnered with a beginner you can still have a good game against stronger opponents.
Keep an eye out on the channel soon 👀
@@BadmintonInsight awesome thanks. I'll be eyeing for new video :)
Thank you Darren! And thanks for the suggestion.. have you watched our doubles return of serve video?
Please please make a video on Creativity, Mental game and Focus
Love from India ❤️
Thanks for the suggestion :)
Percentage badminton always a big thing. If you miss 50% of shots where you slam it in to the net maybe do a different shot in those instances 😅
Thanks for this, was useful. For me, I’ve come to realise I lift it because if I drop from a serve I don’t trust my partner to play a good shot next. It’s fairly hard to analyse yourself 😵💫
your channel grow so fast
amazing. really appreciate this.
Thanks 😄😄
Being tense and trying to finish too early is somehow connected to my smashes. I noticed that I tried to commit 100% power to my smashes so that accuracy and techniqie was not there anymore. To me it really helped to just plau with about 40% power and focus on precision. But being loose actuallt creates more snap to my shots in the long run
Idk if I'm still analyzing the video due to badminton or due to the smooth way of transitioning subjects/topics.
Haha 🤩
Thanks for making Videos for us You're the best 1
Thanks for watching! 😄
@@BadmintonInsight Guys can u make a video on how to do Badminton practice at home " There are so many videos on TH-cam but they all confuse me to get on Point " But you guys are amazing can you make it for us plss " This is my humble request 😁😉💖

Thanks! 😀 We’ll add it to the list! Just need to get some practice in first…
@@BadmintonInsight ohk no problem we can wait😁
Thanks for your request! We've just released it today, here's the link - th-cam.com/video/Uos0VSJ_Z3o/w-d-xo.html 😀
Superb! Many thanks
You’re very welcome 😀
Hey G&J, amazing video, one the the best videos that you have uploaded. Great info, vast learning for intermediate players. Love your videos. Love you both. Love from your neighbouring country-Ireland😄😄 🏸❣️
Hi Hruthin 👋🏼 Thank you very much 😃 that’s great to hear! Keep it up!
Another great video. I've been asking myself this exact same question lately - what is it that separates an advanced player from an intermediate? PS. Well played and unlucky in Nantes - going out to the eventual tournament winners *again* (you guys can't catch a break!)
Hopefully this video managed to answer that question for you! Haha yes, was a tough draw but you've got to beat them all to win the tournament ey! 😅
@@BadmintonInsight It certainly did, thanks! And yes, I guess so... It was great to see your match being streamed online for once, so we could all watch back home
Great video, can you also do this for Advanced to Elite?
Thanks for the suggestion Leo :)
It seems you are talking about me...lol.. so much to learn for me...
Haha, keep learning!
Such a great topic discussed loved it ❤️🙌🤞🤘
Thanks 😃😃
Great vid!
Thanks 😀
All videos are very useful, Thank you❤ from INDIA 🇮🇳
That’s great to hear! You’re very welcome 😁
Hey! Great video. Quick question. Is the virtual coaching program coming back anytime soon? I'd love that!
Hi 👋🏼 unfortunately we don’t have the time at the moment! It may do at some point but not in the immediate future 😬
@@BadmintonInsight Okay no worries! Thanks for replying! 😊
All 5 points fit me perfectly ,hahahaha
Thank you for a great video. I’m going to try to think about a “ loose grip “ when I play and see how that helps 🙂
You’re welcome as always! Good luck 😃😃
thank you for your advices. It would be excellent if they could offer a course in person such as the couch level 1,2,3 or the Fast track of the BWF. Greetings from Mexico 🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽
Thank you so much ☺️
I am a state level badminton player from India.
Have you watched our video (it’s quite old now) on how to choose the best racket for you? 😃
Nice Video. You have got some great acting skills:)
Haha thanks 😂
Hi, amazing video! Could you maybe do a video about changing grips in-between matches or is that's already a video?
I have been an intermediate player all my life. I played a lot at some points in my life, and less at other times. I am 55 now, and obviously my game is worsening. Do you guys have any tips for us aging players?
Racket skills will be your friend 😜🏸
@@BadmintonInsight Racket skills, yes... and, I am playing the annoying old man drop shots that I used to hate when playing older players. Is there anything else?
