As the majority of my family lives in California while I am located in Germany I always searched for a GMT watch for daily use. So the Seiko is the perfect match for me. I also own an SKX for about eight years now as a sports-watch for hiking and biking so the design is pretty familiar to me. And i understand Your critizism about that because the GMT doesn't look like a new design. On the other hand this design is pretty perfect - like the crown on 4 and so on. So I have no problems with that. As I have a black SKX I choosed the Blueberry GMT which I highly recommend. It suits to casual wear, but also to business wear. And besides that: Thank You for the explanation between an office and a true GMT watch! Now i got the point. Keep on doing this great work. Best wishes, Hans-Peter
I just purchased this watch, with the orange dial. There are pros and cons with this watch, and in the end, I believe I'll be satisfied with it. Fortunately, I was able to buy the watch at a discount and used CC points to further reduce the price; I'm in this watch for just over $150.00US. At a higher price point, I believe I would send it back. The biggest problem I have is that in all the reviews and ads for the watch the orange dial appears to be matte. In reality, however the dial is decidedly metallic. I would have preferred the matte finish as appears on the black. Anyway, at my investment point it's a watch I will keep and wear. It does get a lot of attention, and it is very comfortable to wear. One surprise - this is my first experience with a Hardlex crystal. I'm more concerned with dial clarity and crispness that scratch resistance, so I don't HAVE to have sapphire. This crystal has no distortion and minimal glare. Great video review! Thanks!
I bought the SSK 003 (blue dial) and I really love it. I usually daily wear a gold/stainless blue dial Rolex Submariner, but this Seiko 5 Sports GMT has rarely left my wrist since it arrived a few weeks ago.
I also bought this watch ("blueberry" or "batman", as you wish) and the tonality in different ambients is amazing as well as beautiful. It is my fifth Seiko and I love them all. If you want a diver, a classic, a pilot, a chrono or anything else you have a lot of good watches with Seiko. About chrono, my next purchase will be the Prospex Speedtimer (white or sandy dial).
I have the SSK001. I really like that they did with the hardlex bezel insert. On the 001 it looks grey indoors but takes on an almost chrome like appearance. It's one of my favorite bezels that I have seen Seiko do.
@@watcheswithabdullah I almost got the blue version but the blue on it was so dark that while inside the jewelry store it looked like a black one so I just decided to go with the black lol
I have 2 the snn013. I forget the small 22mm and the tuna can but they have to both day and date or I won't look at them. this one I like but no day window ,no crazy about the jubilee. my last was a white ice Daytona but it ha d too much attention so I sold it. it kept bad time. love my seiko.
Congrats on the new watch! The GMT prices are surely going to drop in a few months. We're gonna see a lot more dials and color options soon for sure. And the King Samurai is a great-looking tool watch! I'm looking into bringing more Seiko's on the channel and that's definitely on the list!
@@ChimaobiSPE Not sure but just looking at the vast current catalogue of the SRPD line, we can safely predict that things might get a lot colorful soon with the GMT 😂
Not sure if you'll see this but I'm considering getting this watch here in the UK - it's being sold for £400 everywhere but I can get it for £320 with a discount code from a high street store. Is £320 a good price for this?
I own this exact model. Love it! The timekeeping is bad. Maybe it’s just mine but mine gains +30 seconds per day which Seiko considers to be in spec. for the 4R34 caliber. I can live with it.
Love all your reviews man, your fellow Indonesian neighbor here, may I have your opinion for choosing my next watch: Seiko 5 GMT, Tissot PRX 35mm or Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical Right now I only have Seiko SNXF05, Orient Ray 2 and GShock DW5600. Want a new watch for celebrating my upcoming college graduation😀
Great review and a beautiful watch but because the other Seiko watches are so good you can spend 20% more money and get a Seiko 100% better. There should be a law that any watch over $300 must have a sapphire crystal.
While I like the subtlety of the black version, I'm generally not that interested in this particular type of dive-derived design. I chose to get the RZE Ascentus, which uses the same movement but stylistically fits better with my field-watch heavy collection. Titanium, unique case shape and bracelet (w/ milled parts), and a striking minimal dial, all for about the same price as the Seiko. (At least at pre-order.) Can't do the third time zone trick though, unfortunately, and it has a unidirectional bezel for some reason. But overall, I'm glad I waited a sec and got something closer to my aesthetic tastes.
Even though the case is 42.5mm, it wears well on my 6.23inch wrist thanks to the short lug to lug of just 46mm. It will look sporty and a bit noticable, but won't look too big. I'd advice you to try it out at a boutique, even if you want to purchase it online later on. Also, you might wanna check out the new 38mm divers (the SRPK family). I haven't seen them in person, but the size looks promising. Enjoy!
I love the look of these Seiko 5 GMTs. But their build quality is crap compared to Certina and Tissot. Certina DS2 Action Diver GMT have been on sale for as low as about $ 650 - and have case and bracelet of solid 316L steel, sapphire crystal, ETA 2824 Powermatic 80 with 70 hours power reserve. As other reviwers on TH-cam points out, why does Seiko offer hardlex when sapphire crystal really is cheap. I’m surprised about what arrogant move Seiko has done here… Try and feel the steel bracelet of Tissot and Certina… But Seiko is definitely king of lume.
Seiko does offers sapphire on some of their dressier options (even some of the cheaper ones) but i guess it's because hardlex is more shatter resistant than sapphire but not as scratch resistant). While i myself do wish for more sapphire options, i believe their logic is to make most of their entry levek pieces as 'tooly' as possible. But yeah, sapphire isn't as expensive as it sounds, which is why you see a lot of microbrands offer it at much more affordable prices.
Sorry to disagree with you but this is not inferior in build to Certina or Tissot. For a start this movement in the Seiko has all metal parts and ruby pallets. Regulated it can do 4 sec/ day. The entry level Tissot etc... mechanicals cost more and use plastic pallets and escape wheel in their movement, not exactly quality. I have worked on Tissot quartz watches that rrp for £350 and the ETA quartz module is all plastic with integrated movement holder. Hardlex is great for clarity and AR, granted Sapphire is excellent too. Too many false claims made for lower entry Swiss watches that are no better frankly. Enjoy what you own because everything can be criticised when broken down. Don't get me started on the Moonswatch😮
Your right. If Seiko wants to dial back the specs then the buyer would need to want it BECAUSE it’s a seiko. What I mean is the Chinese are producing very good watches now. They can give everything Seiko used to, even originality as San Martin has started doing.
It's getting really competitive for Seiko out there. For somebody that doesn't care about brand name, homage brands like San Martin are doing phenomenal jobs with specs and quality for the money.
From a design standpoint, how dumb is it to confuse people checking in the dark by making the minute hand and the GMT hand both arrow shaped? For that matter, who wants an arrow shaped minute hand at all?
The 100mtr water resist is a problem with the SRPD diver models. But this is a GMT it is not an skx, so no problem for me. I prefere the 7002 over the SKX anyway, because of the crone position on 4 and not 3.8. For me this is the bigger problem with the reisued turtles, they are all wrong positioned at 3.8 or 4.2
I’m a new watch guy fascinated with Rolex and have been watching a lot of reviews of this watch. Thank you for the explanation, I do travel a lot so I think I’m looking for more of a true GMT than an office GMT. But at that price point and finding it hard to resist.
@@watcheswithabdullah Would love to see your review of the Classic and/or dual crown! I'm purchasing mine first one this weekend and I'm still torn between the two. That blue coffee sandwich dial... it's like sitting in the the Connaught hotel cigar room, sipping pimms, waiting for my Orient express tickets to arrive...
I bought the Seiko 5 GMT SSK003K1 a few weeks ago. I must say it's a beautiful looking watch and keeps good time, but have noticed it feels heavy on the wrist after wearing it for several hours.
Buyer beware! I went to a jewelry store and the watch they gave me (001) was DOA. Wound it up and nothing happened. Saw on Reddit someone else had a similar experience, but his died after one week. Same exact description as what I saw. If you’re buying this at a brick and mortar store, wind your watch and make sure it works before you go! My guess is there’s a bad batch of these floating around. Luckily they had another watch at the store that they sold me. As far as the actual watch, I just wish this was a true GMT. Didn’t love the jubilee bracelet; switched it for a NATO. It runs maybe 8 seconds slow/day. Annoying, but 🤷🏻.
I doubt that Seiko "is back". They did that solely to compensate for their pandemic losses, while at the same showing the old fanbase the middle finger by ensuring that literally none of the skx parts are compatible with any of its parts, up to the bezel insert.
