- The last DLC for Fire Emblem: Three Houses features the Cindered Shadows side story where you can acquire 4 new students from the Ashen Wolves and 4 new classes to use. This video will cover all the things you can get from completing the Cindered Shadows side story and how to unlock everything when you go back to your main story save files including how to get more Abyssian Exam Passes, which are needed to promote to the new Special Classes.

Some additional notes: You can only unlock the Wayseer and Shadow Library by getting to Chapter 13. When a unit is eligible for a Special Class certification you will get a free Abyssian Exam Pass. I assume this is a one-time thing. The Trickster’s magic attacks uses Finger Guns...best class hands down

If you got any tips for anyone playing through Cindered Shadows, feel free to leave a comment. I will say that you should definitely keep your units together and not get too lazy overextending. Also, have fun on Chapter 2!
So you don't have to spend renown to unlock the Wayseer and Shadow library then?
My advice on Hard mode:
1. Use gambits, ESPECIALLY for the feature that causes affected enemies to be immobilized. The DLC throws a ton of enemies at you and you are not going to be able to clear them all in one turn.
2. Learn to defeat monsters efficiently - using a combart art with monster effectiveness will break that shield area and stun the monster. For monsters with lower overall hp, breaking just a single tile at a time then hitting the exposed areas as they are stunned is often more effective. For high HP monsters I still recommend using gambits to go for the full break.
3. Change your character loadouts often for the situation. For example Edelgard has other advanced classes unlocked, if you keep her as an armor knight during certain missions she will fall behind. Another example is that Yuri has very low base HP and by default his HP+5 skill is not equipped. By all means switch out his White Magic proficiency skill with it if you have no intention of attacking with Nosferatu on him. And then that includes equipment, if you see a lot of armored units? Purchase an armorslayer for Byleth. You can even swap Yuri’s hero relic to other characters as needed to give them +1 move and Canto and that leads to a lot of powerful options.
Slobertooth 13 You still do, but you cannot even see them at the Influencer until chapter 13.

Yuri hero relic effect isn't exclusive to his crest? Maybe I read it wrong, but I thought the extra movement was for anyone but canto was locked to his crest effect.

Consider the story references, it seems Cindered Shadows takes place almost right after Byleth's acquisition of the Creator Sword.
They mention specifically that it’s been about a month after the holy mausoleum incident when byleth got the SotC

Vader 14 that’s possible. I assumed it’s the holy mausoleum incident she was referring to bc they were talking about that place at the time and she brought up heightened security
My tip that a lot of people seem to forget is that you can reclass your students. If their current class is too slow, not tanky enough, has too little mv, etc reclassing is an option. I changed dimitri to a hero after chapter 2 because he wasn’t doing great as a paladin (constantly doubled and not tanky enough to take that and later enemies have horseslayers) so the boost in speed saved him a lot. I changed edelgard into a warrior for more mv around halfway through and they both stayed in those classes for the rest of CS. It’s not as flexible as maingame but you’re not set into the classes you start with

Why would you change demitri he is the best as a palidin I could only get past that one where everyone must make it to the end because he was a paladin he slayed the enemy's while everyone else followed behind

People just look at the side story and say this dlc wasn’t worth it but there is so much more the new characters and tons of new supports new classes and even new paralogues and of course counting the dlc before that if you consider everything together I’d say it was worth it
I feel like that why it took 8 to 10 hours to beat the side story so you can go back to the main campaign and get the rest of the goodies in my opinion so after the you complete the cindered shadow then the real treat begins when you start the main story again in my opinion

Kinda want the ashen wolves as spirits in smash. Yuri as a colorless two star primary spirt with an evolution to his time skip, the rest as sub spirits
This video is amazing!! Just wanted to further add on to the point of how replayable/flexible the Cindered Shadows story is. Reclassing the characters is always available and very useful, for example Hilda can be turned into a Peg Knight, or Edelgard can switch off Armor Knight to become a Fighter and there are specific missions where this is a huge help on Hard. Additionally the characters all have pretty high proficiencies in random skills and that gives them a lot of abilities to swap in and out, for example Hilda randomly has a C in lances, otherwise Dimitri is the only lance user in the entire DLC.
Pagan Alter: Only way to get the Abyssian Seals for 750 renown. Best ways to get renown points is to offer up flower seeds , black-sand stones, and smithing stones. You'll easily get your renown in the thousands for around 10-20K's worth of items.
Lysithea is fun a dark flier and that ability makes her a deadly magic sponge.

Really like how they pace this dlc out. And after the first playthrough(which i really think Golden Deer is the best choice since it's the most neutral route imo), 2nd playthrough with the new characters and classes will be so good and immersive
Fire Emblem 3 Houses Season 2 plz Nintendo. Give us a prequel dlc Seiros vs Nemesis. More Sothis because she's hardly even in the game. And the classic Beach Bum dlc after the main game for your S supports.
It would be nice if they actually did that, or at least add her as a unit in a future update with some other characters, like nemesis and kronya (without support conversations of course cuz that wouldn't work, essentially they'll be like anna). I would love for the team to add more dlc for this game but it's probably not going to happen

A couple things: the ashen wolves crest stones and the ability to change units clothes are because of the recent update in the game as well as new game + benefits. you also gain reknown for ng+. these are not a cause to completing cindered shadows. otherwise I'm pretty sure your information is right

The new characters look nice but I won't lie, I'm more interested in the returning classes. I'm tempted to buy this DLC just to add some new variance to the GD Maddening file I'm about to start.

You can’t recruit the ashen wolves till you get to chapter 4 of the sidestory

It doesnt really Matter. I would go into the abyss via the side story before you start the next playthrough. Its not an option in the normal game, it just enhances your game of you beat the sidestory.

sparkle wonder I suggest completing Cindered Shadows first and then complete your next route, that way you can obtain the new characters, classes, etc. to use in your next route. Just a suggestion :)

What's the level requirement to do this properly or is it independent of the main game and what you do there?
Progression in Cindered Shadows needed to unlock each
Constance: Chapter 2
Balthus: Chapter 4
Hapi: Chapter 5
Yuri: Chapter 6
I believe it's after beating Chapter 3 in the Side Story is when you can recruit Constance.

I got a question, after cindered shadows should you recruit the new 4 ASAP or wait a bit longer? Just made a new playthrough with Golden Deer.
Their paralogues are pre time skip. I’d just not grab them in chapter 2 because then they’ll be level 3

I recommend playing the DLC after beating the Main Game at least once, so that you can an understanding on some relationships in Cindered Shadows.

So. Start a new game, then hop over to abyss side story. After completing that go back to main story and recruit Abyss units starting at chapter two. That's the best way to do it? I'm guess based on how you explained it.
I actually completed the side story on the final week of the main game. That way you can sell EVERYTHING that doesn't carry over to NG+ and get a massive surplus of renown at the start of the game to play with (I got 60k+ renown).
I don't see the side story in the menu so idk if the game is broken?
Do you get anything more like more renown or something for beating Cindered Shadows again? Another question I have is if you need to spend renown in Abyss for each gameplay or if it recycles.
NiLink NoLa you get 10 000 renown for beating Cindered Shadows and you get the bonus item [SPOILERS] chalice of begginings which lets you counter from any range (i think it’s limited to 5 spaces tho???). You get these things in your room in the monastery. I don’t know if the spent renown recycles in new game+ but if the Saint statues keep the renown for every new game+ then i believe the spent renown will also be in Abyss facilities.
My question was if you could get something more for beating Cindered Shadows more than once, like another 10k renown. Thank you for your theorie on the facilities tho!
NiLink NoLa Oh sorry, i read the question wrong, I don’t think you get more renown for beating it again since you already get 10k and the chalice and you get it in every single playthrough like if you beat Cindered Shadows then you get it in all your non-finished save files
I'm still at Cindered Shadows ch3, do we get any new battalions? I always try to give the characters their canon battalion, so I'm hoping we get one for each new student.

How do you get ashen wolves sacred treasure, I’m past time skip and I have no Idea
My main story is at chapter 21, while I have finished my DLC. When I enter the Abyss, I don't see any of the Ashen Wolf members, anyone knows what's going on?
You can only recruit the ashen wolves during part 1 as said in the video, they start showing up in abyss during chapter 2. Unfortunately, you can’t get the ashen wolves that late into the game.

Just a quick aside note @Fire Emblem: Why is Valkyrie a cavalry class? Valkyries, as in Norse Mythology, have wings, and are like angles. Shouldn't they be a flying class? It's not just this game, the Valkyrie class goes back to at least Sacred Stones, because I'm pretty sure La'Rachel was a Valkyrie. It's not super important, just a gripe from the peanut gallery. Also, Balthus is big daddy and Hilda is still best girl. Get smoked Eddy fans. (I love Edelgard too, please don't get the pitch forks)
Valkyrie goes as far back as fire emblem 6 in 2002, though it may have been called something different in Japanese I don't know.

@@jaspermanuel524 The "first part" is the first 12 chapters of the game before the first major event (I don't want to spoil anything).
As long as you start the DLC and get the new students you'll have them in Part 2.

Wutert Oh, i mean by that time the game teaches you about the batallion and combat art mechanics. Cindered shadows is much harder than the base game.
What does it mean by "you can only unlock them during the first part"
The main game is divided into two parts. Part 1, then Part 2 (war arc/timeskip). If you HAVEN'T recruited the Ashen Wolves by the time you hit Part 2, you lose them for the rest of the run.

entire pass unfortunately. Also sucks how the old DLC is no longer free. So you're basically paying $26 for all the DLC so far
toshio1334 the DLC that was previously given out for free is still free. But the $25 pass unlocks the sauna, new outfits, Anna, and everything included in Cindered Shadows.

It‘s actually not that hard, I made it on classic too and its my second fire emblem game only.
The escaping is really easy, though the second last fight was a bit of a hassle, had to restart twice or so

Not personally buying the dlc pass for this game. It’s $40 cdn with tax, and the only thing worth in the pass is the ashen wolves and nothing else. $40 for 4 characters, 4 classes, and a tripe way to have them enter the main story with 6 hours of content? I can buy some other decent games (on switch or steam) for that price, or put it towards animal crossing. If it ever joins the main game on sale, i might consider it, but not for the bloated price it is now.

It's probably on purpose lol. The name Yuri is a very gender neutral name, especially in japanese. Yuri is modelled to look like a female on first glance, but is male. Canon class is Trickster.
