I used to be excellent @ D2, but I just got back into it after ~14 years and am starting from scratch again. Your channel has been the best to re-learn the game and wanted to say thanks! Keep it up, Mr. Llama :-)
Old video, but I felt it worth noting that corpse explosion is a key part of a summoner build, and revives only need a couple points, since it just allows another one per point (and they despawn if too far away from you, which they'll get often aha) And that pointing out amp damage can break physical immune (And semi related, that corpse explosion is half fire and physical damage). Guessing you already know, but didn't hear it mentioned.
Fun fact about Bone Wall and Bone Prison: When you use those skills it will aggro enemy monsters way off-screen (you can observe this better if you use a maphack that displays enemys on the map). A good combination is to use it in the cow level (or any other area) and the Corps Explosion will be more effective because all monsters will come in one place.
One combination I love playing with the necro is combining Thorns, Amplify Damage and Corpse Explosion. It works really great. It should be first of all noted that Amplify Damage BREAKS PHYSICAL IMMUNITY (albeit at a 1/5th efficiency); as a result, all physical resistant monsters no longer are... Except a very rare case in Hell when you have a boss which has both the physical immune modifier _and_ Stone Skin. I have encountered this case once... Only once. Also, it does not allow to deal double damage, it lowers the physical resistance by an absolute 100% (20% if the monster has PI). But this means that for instance, if a monster has 50% physical resistance, when hit with the curse it has now a 50% weakness, meaning he takes 150% damage from physical attacks -- THREE times as much. A 25% resistant monster will have -75%, meaning it will go from taking 0.75 times the damage to taking 1.75 times the damage -- more than double. Of course, this loss in physical resistance also affects Corpse Explosion and Thorns... I like having either the combat act 2 merc for it or, when I can afford it, Bramble (RalOhmSurEth) and equip the merc better.

One point in resistance is enough, because you have lots of + to summoning or all skills on your wands and necromancer only "shields". With 5 points(1 hard point, 4 soft points) you already have 47%. With 10 points you only get 57%. You can put it in when you have all other stuff that you want maxed, but other than that, one point is enough.

Also full trang set would be an awesome alternative for gear if you don't mind the loss of the teleport. I think the necro is fantastic. Using bone prison is optional l, even when you got it maxed for dmg output and absorb. I prefer to only use it when needed. For example on though boss packs and bosses itself.
Haven't played D2 in about 18 years and recently started a necro summoner for nostalgia purposes. Tearing through the early content until running into the brick wall that is Andariel. Any way to kill her solo as a summoner or do I just need to find a group to carry me? Even at level 15 she kills my merc, golem and 4 skellies in seconds, leaving me with no offense except CE. Digging into the deep recesses of my mind I seem to recall bosses being a problem when I played a summoner back in the day as well.
That would have been an interesting option. I re-tried and this time my merc didn't suicide and I made sure that there were enough corpses from trash mobs around to spam skellies when they died (didn't use CE). Also, my golem only died once. So it was actually pretty easy. A lot easier than the sorc I just started.
Hi guys. I'm having some Diablo 2 LOD fever, so got 1.12a patch installed, went for D2SC and Plugy 10.0 too. However, I can't get Giga inventory mod to play. Could someone help me out here?
Mr Llama thanks for taking the time to do this. Can I ask, is there anywhere that explains if / how / what synergies with what? ie, I know the Merc aura assists all, but is it only auras that are party assists, or if I have something that gives me poison protection, does my summons have that as well? thanks!
Thanks for this! Yeah ive gone for raiseskel, gol-skel masteries, sumresist, and with a few exits for merc resses, I blew away diablo on normal /players8 [Necro lvl37] Ive got CE and Confuse has been very helpful, it stops ranged attacks dead and helps to stop crowding... not sure if NM and Hell have resistances to confuse? I was very lucky to roll an Amulet +1 nec skills, summoners +1 nec skills wand, so I START with 3 for each skill.. I ended up with skmast8, sksum8, golmast10, golsum6, sumres6, CE4, Bspear3, confuse 4, decrep3.
My problem is I played network d2 once a week for 15 years with 6 mates, but never specialised.. I never went past skel/golem summoning, and didn't use anything else, not even CE as everyone else was standing in front of me. So i know a bit, not not much. I'm SP so I will not get a chance to use the polearm runeword w/ teleport which looked good. I've got Stealth TALETH on me and Malice ITHELETH on the A2 Offensive Merc
One guide suggested to combo max iron golem+golem mastery along with max corpse explosion+bone spear and bone spirit. It was called golem killing machine. What is your take on that build?
It's my favourite character, very versattile with his pure magic damage from bone spear, when u reach nice amount of +skills and decent fcr u have great clear with around 4k magic dmg (magic dmg immune is so rare). Also after u got 1 body u can explode whole map with corpse explosion and damage amplifity. Clai golem with deprecity make boss walk in slow motion. For defense u have great bone wall which u can use against enemy archers. Cheap equipment: wand +3 bone spear with white - runeword cheap as hell, plus necro shield with +3 bone spear and rhyme runeword, plus life res and some skill points. Fun to play.
@@damiankowalski4731 no...you jsut dont know how to play it. necro summoner need corpse explosion/1 spear and amp/curse . really expensive character cause you need a lot of +1 .
So.. Bone spirit with a summoner for your Main attack, yeah? Thank you for clearing up the spells and golem aspect of things. Quick question, skel mastery.. Is that needed to be maxed, few points in to it, no, yes? Annnnd that's it! Haha
Lmao, summon necro with might merc, equipped with Pride polearm. Also, a Golem made of either Beast runeword, or better yet -- Insight (for unlimited CE mana). Also, skeletal mages are great, actually, they still do better damage than any revives, as they are not obstructing skellies and fire from behind (except for maggot lair, every summon necro has some suicidal thoughts when it comes to this). And it is great to beat the crap out of bosses if you run clay golem -- slow + decrepify + chill from mages render almost every boss completely helpless. Revives are more of a syrgery tool, as some revives offer good damage (Urdar-Gorebelly Demons with Crushing Blow). With an army of these guys you may even wreck diablo clone easily. Also, maxed Corpse Explosion helps immensely, especially on p8 games, where CE is not as powerful as in solo mode. With + skills it will annihilate everyone in your screen range
@@katarinakay8215 The trick is to just have your merc and golem and that's it. Corpse explode will take care of everything and the mobs in there are weak. If your golem is in the way, just recast it. If merc won't move where you want, just TP and come back and he will be right there. ML doesn't take THAT long to get past.
Question, is poison explosion the highest damage skill in the game? I'm pretty sure it is, but that's anecdotal. Funny how my favourite characters are the weakest... Druid and necro. Quad thought the necro is helpful Ina group setting, just with all the curses. Especially stacked with paladin auras and barb shouts.
ok let me learn you up something.... if you max out all skeleton skills thats 60 points, put 1 into all the golems and mastery, thats 66 points, then put one point into decrep and all skills to get to it, thats 6, 74 points, put one into the bone spirit and all skills that synergize with it thats 7 points, thats 81 points, then put 9 into revive, thats 90, 9 into summon resist or put them, into revive, thats 99. all quest points and left over points should go into corpse explosion gear... maras kaleidoscope, enigma, white wand, shako, homonculous, soj, wisp projector, beast flail, and spirit shield, the merc that grants might aura, a CTA in cube, max on summon charms, an anni, and torch, and res small charms with vitality.... THATS how to make the telestomp necro, youre welcome
oh yeah i forgot... shit my diablo 2 days ended a long time, still tho, its a damn good build for gear and skills, the end game effect is you summon all your minions and teleport, everything under you dies instantly, vs 8 players, only thing you may have trouble on is ubers if you are trying to do it solo but i gall it the telestomper
Loving this series, Llama! Regarding the audio pops -- I'm guessing you're using a little audio interface like a Scarlett 2i2 or something like that? That definitely wasn't audio distortion or clipping -- sometimes the software bugs out and you get these intermittent pops and I've found that plugging it in and out generally fixes it. I guess that's tricky to do on stream though, but I haven't found a better fix for it. Maybe try checking your drivers or downloading something like Asio4All? Hopefully you work it out! Luckily it hasn't been an issue in the past :) - Lolcohol :)
Poison nova is pretty good even without gear. The issue is that you get it at lvl 30 and the other poison skills are garbage. The thing about the necro is that he can exploit the game in so many ways...
Bone prison is all the exploitation you really need lol. lock monsters in and have them attack the bones and you can do whatever you want. And poison nova without gear is eh...I've tried it before and it just really started to fail the later on I got.
My first Necro build was full skeletons and skeleton mages. When I finally got to Diablo, he did one fire attack before I even saw him and all skelletons were dead, LOL!
I used to love the summoner build, but it got old fast. Even when I finally was able to make Enigma, I thought, "NOW, I'll have some real fun!" Mheh. Sure, he can wear a lot of magic find, but so can a sorceress. To me, he's good to play when you want to focus on a beer and some snacks. As for the other two builds, I had no idea that you could fill up the bone prison on the whole screen like that. Cool, I guess, but where's the challenge?
Having played (years ago) a Necro summoner all the way to Baal on Hell difficulty, I'd kinda have to say Druid summoner is at least faster. Unless I'm remembering wrong, my Druid summoner on /players 8 is actually killing mobs faster then my Necro summoner did on /players 1.
One thing to mention about poison nova is that the damage and time will not stack. No need to cast it like a mad man - use hit and run tactics! After the first enemies start to fall I usually finish the rest off with corpse explosion. And I don't think you need very good gear for it either, but he's super fragile with low gear + only low level golem and merc for defence. :/ In summon and poison builds I always max corpse explosion - it's the fastest killer of enemy groups and even works through walls lol :D (needs TONS of mana though). Also.. Revive is pretty pointless imo - skeles will be strong enough to stand against like >95% of enemy groups and the revives will block your skeles (who mostly do more damage). You can put these points into corpse explosion instead :D. NB! Poison is a very late game build, I'll usually respec into poison in hell.
So the issue I've found with poison is a lot of things have decent poison resistances so it wears off pretty quickly. Additionally the damage just isn't quite what it feels like it should be. You are correct about hit and run tactics but a lot of times it takes many poison novas to really get some monsters down. Thus to really have it be effective, you need solid gear with poison buffs/debuffs As for revives, I find them to be useful when you revive the right monsters. Getting some CB revives can be super helpful against bosses!
I guess it kinda comes down to personal experience and preference then. I was so bored of my boner necro and tried the poison nova for lulz once and I was pretty impressed (or entertained) how good the poison nova/CE combination worked. Yeah, I've seen some impressive summoner uber runs with revived maulers and such, so that's a good point (enigma is almost a must have there though). I guess since it's a lvl 30 skill and I usually consider bosses hard only in normal, over time I have concentrated towards max mob killing speed and totally discarded revive in that sense. :P Oh yeah, also wanted to ask - are you also going to make some bnet/multiplayer guides too? Like basic party tactics with different builds, doing baal/cow/mf runs, trading & commonly used acronyms in speech (tp, pp, ng..) and so on?
Bonemancer is super fun to play, provided you have the self discipline to not abuse prison. It's a bit like back in the day when some people couldn't even play Paladins, because the hammer temptation was too strong (and boring. Holy shit was it boring).
I think summoner is boring when we play PVM but bonemancer i havent seen any one play him for ubers. I love bonemancer. Can u make a vid about him vs ubers
Made a summoner necro and placed a few extra points into amp damage for two reasons: 1. the items I was going to use were more summon skills rather than general necro skills, with curses taking most of the hit and 2. having a big army running around fighting everything those 4-5 extra points make it easier to curse them all. Also instead on max revive I opted for a one point and toke corpse explosion. Any thoughts?
corpse explosion is a fantastic choice. Very similar to the "Fishymancer" build you can look up. Totally fine with that choice! I usually go 1 pt amp later when I have more +skills but early on you can put more in if you'd like for AOE
Iron golem with a powerful beast runeword weapon so you have our own hand free for something nice. Works like a charm to clear everything based on PvM. It's basically hardcore mode for poor people cuz when you or the golem dies the item is gone. =3
Coupled with the fact that the skeletal mages's damage is abysmal, you will definitely see the monsters regen instead of dying (there're also the elemental immunes out there)
the sec i hear skip this character...i skipped this video! Best character class ever! . . . . . . . . . im kidding.i did listen and watch this video until the end :(
Let me tell you a story how i fucked up... my game just didnt load anymore so i lost my characters... And how the fuck does he get 120 talent points from the start... ples someone tell me
the best thing about fire golem is it explodes when it dies. which means u can repeatively summon fire golem next to your target in pvp and they cant dodge any projectiles lulz very good when doing it with a poison necro cuz they'll be @ 1 hp
when i used to make necros, all i ever did was put one point into all golems, but my gear would leave me with lvl 10 golems and it didnt matter which one i chose, but i was mega rich, i used to make iron golems out of runewords , oh ps iron golem is my favorite, I made an iron golem out of a BTOD before, it was ruthless. point in telling him the build because he said its boring and im like.... not if you know how to necro,
That's a bad idea. The amount of damage a golem does is not noticeable in hell difficulty. All points in fire golem will do is raise your clay golem's still unnoticeable damage. That one point is better spent literally anywhere else. You aren't using a clay golem for anything other than its slow effect.
There's nothing wrong with your audio, people are just idiots. Word on the street says you can actually LOWER and RAISE your volume on your own PC when watching a streamer - mind blowing, I know.
I really like your guides but please please please mute yourself when drinking, i understand that while talking you must hydrate but it is really off putting to listen to someone eat/drink. I apologize if I come across as rude when asking this but it is a real issue for me and many others.

I had to close my eyes before I realized it was StarCraft music.
Mr Llama thanks for taking the time to do this. Can I ask, is there anywhere that explains if / how / what synergies with what? ie, I know the Merc aura assists all, but is it only auras that are party assists, or if I have something that gives me poison protection, does my summons have that as well? thanks!
So auras would be the only thing here. There is a skill called Summon resist that helps them though!! And mastery skills too
Thanks for this!
I ended up with skmast8, sksum8, golmast10, golsum6, sumres6, CE4, Bspear3, confuse 4, decrep3.
don't use bspear much as i ran out of kbd buttons..
Bone spear + spirit with corpse explosion is REALLY strong. And a solid iron golem can do well. I think that would be totally fine!
Are bone spells just considered "magic" or do they have an element tied to em?
they are "magic" damage. Which is a different damage type in itself.
Same as Paladin's hammer spell. There is no resistance against them.
I’m not sure my summoner druid isn’t better than my necro but I have some skills in bone spear
Necro summoner is boring.
@@damiankowalski4731 no...you jsut dont know how to play it. necro summoner need corpse explosion/1 spear and amp/curse . really expensive character cause you need a lot of +1 .
@@Maxoxpower You can beat game without even using any gear at all so I don't know why you think that.
So.. Bone spirit with a summoner for your Main attack, yeah? Thank you for clearing up the spells and golem aspect of things. Quick question, skel mastery.. Is that needed to be maxed, few points in to it, no, yes? Annnnd that's it! Haha
only like 1 point in skele mastery early, points in raise skeleton are better!
Especially stacked with paladin auras and barb shouts.
the dmg is high but it's over time so it drops it a ton!
necro is a great suppport
MrLlamaSC hmm yeah, didn't factor that in. Also go to bed 😁
20k+ dmg for 2 sec when you are on minus poison res ... dont drops much :)
ok let me learn you up something.... if you max out all skeleton skills thats 60 points, put 1 into all the golems and mastery, thats 66 points, then put one point into decrep and all skills to get to it, thats 6, 74 points, put one into the bone spirit and all skills that synergize with it thats 7 points, thats 81 points, then put 9 into revive, thats 90, 9 into summon resist or put them, into revive, thats 99. all quest points and left over points should go into corpse explosion
gear...
maras kaleidoscope, enigma, white wand, shako, homonculous, soj, wisp projector, beast flail, and spirit shield, the merc that grants might aura, a CTA in cube, max on summon charms, an anni, and torch, and res small charms with vitality....
THATS how to make the telestomp necro, youre welcome
marrow boots gives +2 skeleton mastery btw. and arm of king leoric is a better summon wand
oh yeah i forgot... shit my diablo 2 days ended a long time, still tho, its a damn good build for gear and skills,
the end game effect is you summon all your minions and teleport, everything under you dies instantly, vs 8 players, only thing you may have trouble on is ubers if you are trying to do it solo but i gall it the telestomper
Can anyone confirm? Does Decrep and Confuse cancel eachother as I only see one graphic over enemies.
yes
Loving this series, Llama!
Regarding the audio pops -- I'm guessing you're using a little audio interface like a Scarlett 2i2 or something like that? That definitely wasn't audio distortion or clipping -- sometimes the software bugs out and you get these intermittent pops and I've found that plugging it in and out generally fixes it. I guess that's tricky to do on stream though, but I haven't found a better fix for it. Maybe try checking your drivers or downloading something like Asio4All? Hopefully you work it out! Luckily it hasn't been an issue in the past :)
- Lolcohol :)
audio pops were coming from another software running that I forgot to close. So it was having a weird interaction
Why the Starcraft background music?
why not? why any music or no music? why the dumb question?
Poison nova is pretty good even without gear. The issue is that you get it at lvl 30 and the other poison skills are garbage.
The thing about the necro is that he can exploit the game in so many ways...
Bone prison is all the exploitation you really need lol. lock monsters in and have them attack the bones and you can do whatever you want.
And poison nova without gear is eh...I've tried it before and it just really started to fail the later on I got.
Why sometimes the necromancer has darker skeletons? Like almost black.
those are revives!
My first Necro build was full skeletons and skeleton mages. When I finally got to Diablo, he did one fire attack before I even saw him and all skelletons were dead, LOL!
lol yep!! I know that feeling
Same here. I thought more skellies was better than less but more resistant skellies.
What audio pops ? Heard nothing.
Vacinden Rabaltar I think chat was trolling...
For summoner spare points points in dim vision is great against souls and another nasties like dolls.
miss playing my pvp bone necro
I used to love the summoner build, but it got old fast. Even when I finally was able to make Enigma, I thought, "NOW, I'll have some real fun!" Mheh. Sure, he can wear a lot of magic find, but so can a sorceress. To me, he's good to play when you want to focus on a beer and some snacks.
As for the other two builds, I had no idea that you could fill up the bone prison on the whole screen like that. Cool, I guess, but where's the challenge?
If people were worried about challenge they wouldn't always play the best 1 or 2 builds for each class lol. And wouldn't use runewords.
Good guide, however, why not mention the Iron Golem?
One thing to mention about poison nova is that the damage and time will not stack. No need to cast it like a mad man - use hit and run tactics! After the first enemies start to fall I usually finish the rest off with corpse explosion.
And I don't think you need very good gear for it either, but he's super fragile with low gear + only low level golem and merc for defence. :/
In summon and poison builds I always max corpse explosion - it's the fastest killer of enemy groups and even works through walls lol :D (needs TONS of mana though).
Thus to really have it be effective, you need solid gear with poison buffs/debuffs
As for revives, I find them to be useful when you revive the right monsters.
Oh yeah, also wanted to ask - are you also going to make some bnet/multiplayer guides too?
Like basic party tactics with different builds, doing baal/cow/mf runs, trading & commonly used acronyms in speech (tp, pp, ng..) and so on?
Bonemancer is super fun to play, provided you have the self discipline to not abuse prison. It's a bit like back in the day when some people couldn't even play Paladins, because the hammer temptation was too strong (and boring. Holy shit was it boring).
I think your audio device buffer is too low, hence the mic pops. Or maybe it is your mic itself.
It was discord screwing with it. Should be fixed now
I think summoner is boring when we play PVM but bonemancer i havent seen any one play him for ubers. I love bonemancer. Can u make a vid about him vs ubers
Druid and Necro are my favs but sadly are not the best by far
Viable druid summoner is a dream
I used to run blood golem with iron maiden pretty interesting build but falls off in hell
Whatever you do, don't max the golem.
Why?
Why not? Doesn‘t it get stronger?
Skeleton Mages: Do some opponents have heals on fire? because I used mages a fair bit in the past but was seeing the monster health *rise* not fall..
Creatures have high hp regen.
Coupled with the fact that the skeletal mages's damage is abysmal, you will definitely see the monsters regen instead of dying (there're also the elemental immunes out there)
Why 120 skill points its 110 max in game
How is he able to reset his skills like that?
mods
How are you resetting your skill points like that?
It is a PlugY mod.
Although he's boring, he's a good character. Try beating Nihlathak on Hell for the first time. He's not easy
Summon necro with runeword auras +act 2 nm might merc. 'Nuff said :)
Lol “we should just skip this character”
How do you start a new game at lvl 99?
dumb question alert
the sec i hear skip this character...i skipped this video! Best character class ever!

Let me tell you a story how i fucked up... my game just didnt load anymore so i lost my characters... And how the fuck does he get 120 talent points from the start... ples someone tell me
hacked up characters for the purpose of the guide. ignore the stats/skills/life/mana
Can we please have a date over sanctuary and you be the angel giving my devil a stone
Lol
Full max of zombie mage too.
No need golem so much.
No offen or anything like tha
The sound clicks are unbearable like the necro.
Necro
The way he drinks water kind of pisses me off.
Skeleton magi sucks, huh
youre so bad at necro lol.... ok even if you dont like fire golem, put a point into it so your clay golem gets stacks from lvl bonus on items
the best thing about fire golem is it explodes when it dies. which means u can repeatively summon fire golem next to your target in pvp and they cant dodge any projectiles lulz
very good when doing it with a poison necro cuz they'll be @ 1 hp
when i used to make necros, all i ever did was put one point into all golems, but my gear would leave me with lvl 10 golems and it didnt matter which one i chose, but i was mega rich, i used to make iron golems out of runewords , oh ps iron golem is my favorite, I made an iron golem out of a BTOD before, it was ruthless. point in telling him the build because he said its boring and im like.... not if you know how to necro,
That's a bad idea.
Man so many you tubers create tutorials while streaming on twitch, chat huts the pacing of the video so much..
a bit exaggerated, considering they bring up more points to talk about. whiner.
@@SobeCrunkMonster its my opinion and im free to voice it. :)
Please stop doing a live stream for guides. Great video though
I assume twitch is the bulk of his income stream and not youtube, so he has to make allowances.
I really like your guides but please please please mute yourself when drinking, i understand that while talking you must hydrate but it is really off putting to listen to someone eat/drink. I apologize if I come across as rude when asking this but it is a real issue for me and many others.
I’m not sure my summoner druid isn’t better than my necro but I have some skills in bone spear
