Qatar is hot. Even in the winter, during the 2022 World Cup temperatures are predicted to be between 25-30 degrees celsius. So how do you bring temperatures low enough to play football in?
Air-conditioning is the last line of defence. So how are the organisers managing the heat? How have architects made sure the stadiums stay cool? And how are all of those air-conditioning units going to work?

As a civil engineer this is very interesting and relevant to me. My lecturer once did a project on district cooling in Taiwan since they have a very deep ocean on the east side. The project would have pumped water from the depths of the ocean to cool shops and government buildings in the towns that bordered the coast but it ended up being too expensive for their government to pursue. Since, football is a global sport and the revenue is generated globally to run the game; it's hard for me to understand how just a few specific "fine footballing nations" can lay the claim what to do with it. It is a different topic, that Qatar may have gotten the deal through the backdoor. Let's for example, say that India wants to host the WC in the future, but India as a footballing nation, has never reached the WC. So, should India be allowed to do that based on history?

Half of the stadiums are going to be dismantled and then donated to poor countries. The amount of new technologies Qatar implemented in their stadiums is mind-blowing and no other country would have even come close to this. They facilitated their whole country with public services for the people coming to support their teams to have the best time of their lives. Stop the hate. Qatar's World Cup's hosting will in many ways help SubSaharan African, Tropical and MENA countries who will want to host the world cup in the future (10 to 30 years).
From showing the ability to tweak the football calendar as most of those countries are too rainy or too hot to host anything in "Summer" (there is a reason AFCON is hosted in January), to the cooling innovations in this video.

I'm sorry but this video seems to imply that Qatar's research allowed the invention of absorption chillers and displacement ventilation, which to my knowledge is completely untrue, I've seen both used on designs in the US for 10+ years. I assume there may be some application/process they improved that could have been patented, but this video was a very shallow overview.
