A little over 10 years ago, 10 miles north of Qatar would have been a sleepy fishing village, and not much else. This place would become the location for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Fast forward to today and a futuristic metropolis filled with the latest technology and engineering practices is nearing completion.
Did Qatar build this city just for a World Cup? David Goldblatt reveals what this new city will be like. Illustrated by Philippe Fenner.

literally no one forgets that, its just that we've come to terms with the harsh fact that we can't actually do anything for those who were mistreated or killed and that the tournament is happening regardless of what it cost and complaining about it as if we don't all know its awful does nothing to help anyone. There will be no justice, we can't help after the dark deeds are already done and by all means it looks like this tournament may even be a success barring some horrific accident or attack of some sort.
All we can really do is hope this tournament goes smoothly and no one else is hurt or killed in the process, because, and you surely know this, you cannot fix the injustices that have happened in Qatar, not by boycotting, not with a hashtag, not with a prayer. I hope justice comes to those responsible (doubtful) but I do respect the immense work and thought put in by all parties not responsible for human harm.
