      @@Mimzie-Arizona that's what the granddaughter ( children's mother ) wanted, but they were deemed disqualified because family members have said the grandmother needed regular assistance then the judge added on about her not being able to drive in the event she had to get a child to the ER for something. So thank goodness for that because I don't think I could raise 3 of my great grandchildren in my 70's & 80's. Shame on the children's mother to even mention her grandmother.

      When we went to foster classes to foster and eventually adopt our nephew there were so many elderly grandparents. And that's another thing-these relatives who care for the children have to go through so much just to have the children with them. It's not like they just send them and go away. We had 3 years of workers coming in our home, all the testing and paperwork. You have to go to 5 hour classes for weeks, do service hours every year, have people in and out of your home. It's not easy. I'm not knocking cps but they do lose paperwork and workers quit constantly. It's not a great system. My nephew didn't get a social security number until he was 3 and they misspelled his name on it then tried to convince me that was how it was spelled on the birth certificate. They refused to give me a copy of his birth cert until the adoption was done and it did not have the name they kept using on it.

    This is a prime example of why birth control exists. Have multiple children, subject them to something so awful that they develop PTSD, and then have them forcibly removed for their own protection. I feel so badly for this great-grandmother, she has to have assistance for her own needs yet she's still willing to keep her great-grandson. I don't blame her for giving the stipulation that she wants the other two unruly boys to live elsewhere. Everyone in this family sounds like they believe 'no rules apply to them'.

      It's the kids great grandma, it's her grandmother. She wasn't saying that she was just saying I'd they couldn't be with her for whatever reason she would like her grandmother to have them which sounds totally rational to me. In Hispanic families it's super common for a grandmother to even live in the house and be very hands on with the raising of the children. I've always envied Mexican families for their closeness with extended family. Sounded to me like they were more than capable of taking those kids until everything was figured out. I only saw this last bit of this case so 8 don't know what was so horrible about these people but from what I saw it sounded like the grandparents were more than capable of being the caregivers

    • @Jennylouise87
      @Jennylouise87 ปีที่แล้ว

      @J Mac It's one thing to be a big family and help out, it's another to put your children entirely on a 78 year old woman and her 80 year old husband. She's doing meth and smoking weed and exposing her kids to a violent father, the kids now have ptsd, she hasn't done one single thing cps has asked of her and is playing the victim. And now that dads mom is totally overwhelmed she wabts cps to put her kids with her grandma. None of this would need to happen if she would be there to take responsibility and grow up and take care of her kids. The paternal grandma is already taking care of 3 of her kids, 5 total. It's ridiculous!

      I envy large families like that as well. I’m an only child and have only one child myself, he has no siblings, cousins, aunts or uncles.
      It’s a better placement than with a stranger but they are concerned mom won’t stay away. If she does have a large Hispanic family you’d think there is an aunt or cousin qualified.
      My parents are in their mid-70s, they still hike, bike and work it still wouldn’t be ideal for them to raise them child but better than foster care.

      TLDR; Judge Stuckey is so right in his reprimand ti the parents. They need to get their 💩 together, admit what brought CPS into their lives and work the program. It isn’t about which parent is a “better fit” right now (aka, dad meets MOST of the criteria, so if the kids can’t be with this family member then all 3 kids [1 bio 2 non-bio] should be with dad instead of a non-kin placement), it is about doing what is in the BEST INTEREST of the kids.
      What a lot of parents don’t realize is that the judge isn’t looking to see which PARENT/FAMILY MEMBER is a “better fit/placement” for the kids, they are looking to put the kids somewhere that is in THE KIDS BEST INTEREST. You don’t get to pick the better of two bad options (although having the department involved is often an additional bad option, best to get your 💩 together BEFORE there is any CPS intervention required). Once CPS determines that it isn’t safe for kids to reside with their parents and a judges order removes them from the home, they will make decisions for THE CHILD based on THE CHILD’S BEST INTEREST. The Court couldn’t care less about what the parents want, unless what the parents want is truly aligned with what is in the CHILD’S best interest and the parent and the department work together to resolve whatever issues got the department involved in the family’s business to begin with. Once the parents get their 💩 together and prioritize the safety, stability, physical/mental/emotional/educational needs, etc of the child(ren) then it shouldn’t be a problem for CPS to return the child(ren) to the parent(s). Like Judge Stuckey said, when the parents go to make a decision they should evaluate what is in the best interest of THE CHILD(REN) and not what is in it for the parents. If it is in the best interest of the child(ren) then it is in the parents interest also, but if it isn’t in the best interest of the child(ren) then the parents need to PASS and do what is right for the kids instead.
      Let’s say for example that the family is struggling financially and doesn’t know where the next meal is coming from. The parents (in their life before kids) found it easy to utilize the “5 finger discount” to help themselves to items they couldn’t afford. They contemplate going into a grocery store and taking items to make sandwiches, putting the items in different areas of the mothers purse/fathers shoulder bag and in various pockets. BUT WAIT...these parents decide to think about the KIDS NEEDS beyond just food in their bellies and realize that if they get caught, they could end up in jail, having to go to court several times, pay large fines and restitution, etc. That would take them away from their kids (and possibly displace the kids if/when the parents are in jail). They decide to PASS.
      INSTEAD, the parents decide to visit their local food bank to help with their immediate need for food on the table. It may not be what they would have chosen to purchase at the store, but it will work for now. They also apply for food stamps/SNAP/WIC to help keep food on the table longer term and decide to try to work a little bit of overtime or find a second (part-time) job so they can get their financial footing back. While working extra hours may take them away from the kids for a little extra time each week, it does not jeopardize the kids stability in the home, at school, etc and enhances their security by better providing for food, clothing, shelter, medical/dental, etc.
      Sure, the 5 finger discount may be faster and allow the parent(s) to spend more time with the kids than if they were working extra hours, but it teaches the kids a negative lesson, puts the parent(s) and kids at risk and doesn’t look at what is in the kids long term best interest.

    So basically, Dad and Mom see the kids as property! Got it! I love Judge Stuckey! I don't know how these judges deal with these cases, but I do know they are MUCH needed. If not, eventually these kids end up in front of a judge like Judge Kim. That's what happens when these poor kids don't have intervention!!!!?

    Our society has fallen apart and it's heartbreaking! I don't know the solution but a good place to start would be teaching real ACCOUNTABILITY and CONSEQUENCES in school. We have softened so much that when they become adults and have children they have ZERO thought to how their actions effect their kids....it's a complex issue but I feel like something has to change before implosion.... these videos make me hug my kids more and make sure all the kids I work with know they are valued and loved because they may not hear that at home.

    The father's attorney buried his client! By not knowing or reading the case, he asked questions that emphasized what an animal his client is and how horribly his violence damaged the children emotionally. HAS HE NOT BEEN LISTENING? He made the sw say it again, now more isolated, framed and impactful! After burying his client with his incompetence, he goes off screen for a while. When he comes back, he is so DISRESPECTFUL to this case, the Court proceedings, etc. (About 25:52). He is laughing. Talking to and laughing with people off screen. Laughing some more. Gets it together for a while, but returns to the laughing and talking to friends from time to time. I hope people who might consider hiring this clown are paying attention - he doesn't care about his job, he asked a couple of perfunctory and damaging questions he should have known the answer to in order to get paid, sabotaged his client and acted like he was at a cocktail party after that. Hey Thomas - your client is a violent jerk, but please give the process some respect. He is ultimately going to lose custody of his children and that is the most serious matter in the world.

So technically attorneys who defend people they know are guilty, are making sure the consequences they receive won't be vacated when the guilty person appeals.

    maybe I've just not seen it yet, but CPS always considers the wishes of the child when it means keeping them in the foster home. but when they want to be with their parents, then cps pulls the 'just a child' line. (not saying in this case the parents should or should not get the child back. but I am not sure that the wishes of the child should really be a factor any more than they are in a divorce case. the focus should be on the abuse/neglect/endangerment, and not on if the child loves their foster home or not.

    • @KPuddin
      @KPuddin ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I disagree.. from what I have seen, the kids in these types of cases have almost always said they want to be back with their parents. Even in the most terrible of cases when they've been abused, starved, neglected etc. These poor kids would still choose to go back to unsafe, unstable parents because that is what they have grown to think love Is. That is what is normal to them so when they express NOT wanting to go home- to me that would be cause for great concern.

    • @ruthlys
      @ruthlys ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@KPuddin that well could be- but if the focus is on what happened to child, inquiring what the child wants would not really be relevant.
