Yes. It holds 1 Gallon of shingle gravel. I always recommend checking it yearly and clean out as needed. On average it will hold 5 years of shingle gravel. As roofs age they lose more gravel so it varies depending on the age and quality of shingles. Thank you for commenting and contributing. Appreciate you
Love your videos. Very informative. Question: Could I run a gutter drain in the same trench with a french drain? I need both but dont have the room for two separate trenches. The houses are too close together.
I live in Canada (near Toronto). Since the pipes aren't below the frost line what happens in winter if there is a brief thaw and quick freeze? Do the pipes fill with ice?
I have found the corrugated pipes in my yard collapsed after some years of use because of riding mowers riding over the area where they are buried. Should that happen?

Was the pipe used in this install perforated? In my experience perforated pipe installed just with dirt surrounding it will just fill up with dirt over time.
All of our downspouts drain above ground except ONE. Close to that one are some deck drains that don't seem serviceable. Recently the deck drains have begun to periodic overflow and I have no idea why. I also can't seem to figure out where the deck drains drain to. I'm at a loss...
I just witnessed my neighbor get ripped off on a drain. They put in a concrete catch basin and ran non pref pipe to the creek. I laughed the whole time i watched them build it. I said this will fail in a few years. All bc of watching you robert.

Thanks for the video. Can I catch downspouts and have ground drains all into one 3” pipe? Can I use perforarted pipe so when rain stops the same pipes pull in ground water? Do perforated pipes need gravel and also wrap? If running the drain pipe right along side the house should I not use perforated pipes? Can your 3” pipe catch 2 downspouts and maybe 2 ground drains? Thanks. Oh, and why such large green circles around your catch bins? Why not make them small so they aren’t visible?

We didn't have to go through any sprinkler mains or tight landscape. The 4" installed pretty easy on this home. As contractors the industry standards holds us to 4" when homeowners are getting quotes. If I was DIYing this job all by myself and didn't have access to a dump truck or trailer to haul dirt away there is no way I would do 4". Now that we have a leaf filter and Large sediment trap all the reasons to do 4" are now void. Hope that helps Thank you for commenting and contributing
I can’t understand how roots enter a glued joint of pvc? The water supply line to my house is 3/4” schedule 40 passes by two large oak trees no issue with roots.
If its the aluminum wavy type they fit in the 3"x4" leaf filter. We just lightly squeeze them oval. If it's copper or heavy galvanized it will not work. To directly answer your question no we do not have a round at this time.

With this kind of system, is it pointless to have a mesh filter at the top of your downspout? Catching all the leaves at the bottom with the downspout filter you used looks like a much more convenient solution since we have a two-story home and having our gutters cleaned each year gets expensive.
Three-by-four-inch downspouts are superior to two-by-three downspouts. If you are looking to improve drainage performance, that is what I would recommend. Use a three-by-four downspout with a leaf filter for best results. We have many customers upgrade from two-by-three to three-by-four. th-cam.com/play/PLjFCqaZ4v1BXKlR6qPMC_8I00r5KGdoP9.html&si=chXh0_IpEkRlXq4e
I sure understand. To ship a pallet has gotten so expensive. It's ridiculous. The pipe is worth it tho. Doing it right the first time keeps you from having to do it over again. Over built means do nothing for years to come.
Great video, this gives me the confidence to do the job with the products on your website next spring.

Would there be an issue with using artificial turf on top of the French drain, instead of the removed natural sod
No issues

Yes. No way around it. If you have no underground your downspouts and gutters freeze solid either way.

Can you add a catch basin to an existing burried downspout line? Is it possible to only uncover a couple of feet of the pipe to add it?
Yes we update lines all the time.

Hire a plumbing service to run a camera and tracker through the line.

If the line is holding water in the winter it will and does freeze. I use pop-up emitters because they thaw out quickly during a warm up.
