I ran into a job in SCS that had no infrastructure in the backyards, we had to pump from the catch basin to the street, take up the concrete in the street and make a tap. It was the clients only option in this particular situation. BLD & Engineering were very nice and helpful with us though. Even passed residents to us on a few other jobs. I’m in the same situation. Home is by the beach. I’m the lowest point and most neighbors are higher than me. I have water collecting in a large corner and the other low spots are sopping wet. I may bring in yards of dirt and build up. But what can I do now to get water out as it won’t percolate out as it’s a high water table. Do I dig out a French drain and a buried drywell in the interim to at least most of the surface water out of my yard as I’m going to build a raised cement curb/wall for a fence to sit on and eventually back fill with soil to level it out and get above the water table. Don’t want to install a sump pump.

At the very beginning of the video he stated that they were high enough above the lake that there was no danger of them draining the lake. That can only mean that they are above the water level of the lake and therefore above to ground water level as well. That would mean that they could easily have the water drain from the surface of the yard to the lake.
If they were NOT above the lake then the lake water would be flowing through the ground from the lake to above the surface of the yard around the houses and the only way to get rid of it would be to drill a borehole to a location below the lake and install a pipe so the water could flow out of the yards. Which would mean they would create what essentially be a drain for the lake that would drain the lake water out of the lake.

Where i live, the city requires you to build the ground up so that all homes are above the road and all water drains along the sides of roads and its all funneled out to the ocean. Since there is a lake near by, doing something similar would have been a good idea before building these homes.

If the neighbours have all added fill to their yards and that's why this block is getting all their water, that's basically what's happening, in a piecemeal and expensive sort of way. So the other way to resolve the problem on this block would have been a few inches of extra topsoil, to make all that water someone else's problem again.

It’s not too difficult to install yourself if you are up for the task. A 100 feet of corrugated pipe is 80 bucks, rigid is about a dollar per foot. You can dig it yourself or rent a digger for a couple hundred more. Gravel is about 5 per square foot depending on what you get. So assume 200 for that. You could easily do the whole project for 500-750 if you do a hundred feet.

Dont know if there is any legal requirement for what constitutes a french drain, but where i live a french drain is somewhere for the water to get intercepted and led away from the property or disposed of into an infiltration magazine. There is no requirement for a pipe. A slotted pipe is usually for getting rid of the water quicker. Here the trench filled with gravel would be a french drain, regardless of what pipe is used.

All those green lawns you see, without a single weed, are like that because lawn applications of chemicals. Where do you think the French drain water and surface basins finally release the water full of those chemicals? Correct it finish in the rivers and the lakes. Since in the US there is no planning in how to fix chemicals before entering the Waterland, planning is necessary to stablish areas where the biomass of plants fix the contamination and avoid working backwards
If no French drain is not allowed, the city municipality should allow release the water to a center processed unit, before releasing the water into the lake
Another possibility is building "rain gardens", but are expensive when done correctly

So, you're telling your TH-cam audience that you are installing a fake basin to fool an inspector (4:40)? What's going to happen to the homeowner if the city finds out? TH-cam videos are public. Anyone can watch them and forward them. Maybe I misunderstood what you meant by fooling the inspector, but this seems very irresponsible.

Why didn't he just add dirt and raise the level of the yard? It doesn't look like a very big yard. Plus if everyone around this house has already done then he will continue to be the neighborhood swamp but now with a drain.

I'm confused. No french drains allowed, so fake catch basins and install a french drain grid? Got it.

Their using solid pipe instead of perferated and using a lot of stone its obviously a legal loop hole.

@@adamdnewman No, I just rewatched it. He has "dummy basins" connected to "a few feet of solid" that's connected to his high octane -- which is slotted subsurface french drain. All that's connected to the sump basin that's being pushed thru schd. 40, thru the other yards, to the old infrastructure drain.
I support it, and would do the same, I'm just very surprised he posted this and imagine it'll be taken down at some point.
