He's not talking about the operators here, he is talking about the support arm of Delta. Delta is estimated to be a thousand people strong, but at any one time only 250-300 are operators out of that thousand. Everybody else is support (MI, Signal, aviation etc).
Devgru is still supported by the NAVY or JSOC. Delta can perform complete standalone missions, as there was NO JSOC at the time of Delta's creation. Delta was created three years prior to JSOCs formation. Devgru meanwhile, was started the same year JSOC was and had JSOC support in mind.
I also think out of DOD that Delta is the only unit that can work on US soil. I remember reading that the FBI can clear their actions if there is a terrorist action that the FBI HRT needs help with or cannot handle. Also the FBI HRT can also deploy overseas and are about as good as the other two but lack the total experience that Delta/Devgru got in twenty years of constant fighting. The CIA also has a paramilitary group composed mostly of former JSOC guys that is also as good as anybody.
Relentless Strike by Sean Naylor is one of the most informative books about JSOC and why it was established and how it works and what the individual units are. Though by now it is almost ten years old. Interesting read for those that like this kind of stuff.

Relentless Strike was so good I think I read it four or five times. Even the minute details were fascinating. I think it was mentioned in the book, but Delta had their own in-house covered aviation unit (possibly formed from Seaspray?) who pioneered the technology that ultimately became surveillance drones. They also have their own Intel squadron (G Platoon/Funny Platoon) that is similar in capability to ISA, female operators that are scouted from Big Army to provide additional cover for their singletons in the field, top-notch gunsmiths, riggers, outfitters, et cetera. D-boys are truly the Ubersoldat.

    • @backpackryan6228
      @backpackryan6228 ปีที่แล้ว +32

Also, I know Delta deployed on US soil during the Obama years for a "training op" called Power Geyser, which I think took place in the greater DC area. They go where they are needed, embed with whoever, recruit from all branches, and are considered to be the cream of the crop Tier One outfit despite ST6 getting all the hype.

From the books ive read i just figured their biggest difference is that Delta is more of an undercover force while DEVGRU is more commando style, thats not to say Delta doesnt do or have commando style. Another way to look at it is, Delta are like Police detectives that can go undercover and infiltrate a criminal or terrorisr organization while DEVGRU is the SWAT team, both elite and unconventional but also pretty different.

When they announced a SEAL team went after Bin Laden, I knew they wanted him dead.
If they had of sent Delta, they were trying to get him alive. Their mission and objectives are similar but not the same.
Also as has been pointed out, Delta might get deployed on US soil for a (Anti) terrorism mission.
      A SEAL team will not.

I supported both 7 SOG and Delta in Afghanistan. Well as far as delta was concerned, we never knew 100% it was them. Only saw 1 guy from the 160th who was our liaison. Only place that needed an ID and badge. Saw a group of guys one night getting on their Blackhawks. Everyone was blacked out. Hard to actually see them but you still could. So i presume it was them along with the comments from the 160th guy, i had no reason to think they were anyone else but delta. 90% of the time, when we went to the compound it was daytime. Compound was empty, told the guys were resting. Place was nice, dress right dress though. 7th had to go through JSOC for just about everything they needed. Delta either had it on their compound or got it in a few hours with a phone call. Highly impressive to even be close to that environment. Besides the 160th guy got me 100 brand new bed sheets for 2 extra laptop batteries. Those sheets were as good as gold bars.

Knowing what I know now, I believe that was and is partly to provide some shade and cover for Delta Force and its children forces. These are the real companies of real Robowarriors where each member of their force is company strong even if cut off and on their own. The first time I heard of "Delta" was via the Chuck Norris' movies.
And the first time I heard of the "Seals" was when I was at the Great Lakes Naval Base.
I think all the movies that have been made in reference to the Seals, have elevated to the crèma de la crèma of the Special Ops Forces...doesn't mean they are.
    But here's the THING!
It doesn't matter which Special Forces it is.

They excel at QRF type missions where a larger team is needed to extract a smaller team, but are also wicked good at seizing airfields, kicking in doors, and it's said that their recon regiment is unparalleled, amongst other things. Something to the tune of three quarters of Delta were in Batt before they passed Selection, if that tells you anything.

I believe he is truthful, but part of the logic pivots on “stand alone” and “augmented”. The bottom line for me is that the tip of each spear is very sharp. If you gave me 20 members of DEVGRU Gold Team, and 20 members of Delta, I think they would both be incredible! Both require excellent supportive elements in order to burry that tip accurately and deeply. I think that’s why the trained both up for the Bin Ladin Raid. I’ve done tactical emergency medicine and firearms teaching / training with former members of both units and they were beyond belief. If you asked me who I personally was more impressed with, that would be a difficult question, but I’d probably say Delta. ⚕️🇺🇸
