    Did you fix the issue in the end? If so, how? I have the same exact problem, just received the camera in the post today, only to find it broke apart exactly at the same point as yours, on the little golden fittings.

      Hi, I was lucky and got a refund and got to keep the camera, worth telling the seller first that the camera arrived broken and try to get a refund, I did manage to rebuild the front of the camera but it was a pain, I had to use spacers to create the three mounting points, could not copy the original method, have not put a film through it yet, will upload a video when I do, very popular camera and seem to perform well, shame they seem to break fairly easily, a lot of people don't pack them very well for shipping, are you going to attempt to rebuild it if you can't get a refund?
      Sorry for your bad experience 😞

    A little off topic here but I am having a difficult time finding help with this issue. I have a Hi-Matic 9 which will not change focus when viewing through the viewfinder. I took the top off the camera and watched what happened as I turned the focus ring. It looks like the linkage between the lens/focus is not coupled (or at least not working) any longer with the viewfinder glass, but rather sitting static at the infinity position. I can easily move the glass and the rangefinder prism then shows an in focus picture. Any idea how to fix this issue? I am not entirely sure how to get to the coupling. Thanks!

      Hi, there is usually 2 adjustment screws to adjust the horizontal and vertical alignment, is your rangefinder patch out of alignment in either the horizontal or vertical position, or even both?

    • @stephenwells3063
      @stephenwells3063 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Photographer's Bag thanks for the response! Good question. As far as I can tell the patch seems fine. What isn’t working properly is when I rotate the focus ring, the viewfinder glass/rangefinder (?) does not move. On another HM 9 I have the rangefinder glass rotates as the focus ring rotates. This is the nature of a couples rangefinder, correct? Seems that the “coupler” (?) isn’t attached/working? Thanks again for the help.

      @thephotographersbag  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stephenwells3063 Hi, might be worth having a look and inside by removing the top cover and examining the internal workings, might be something simple, the patch should move horizontally as you adjust the focus, or coupled and yes it sounds like the coupling is not working, it is usually a simple mechanism, further information investigation required unfortunately....

    • @stephenwells3063
      @stephenwells3063 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Photographer's Bag thank you, you’ve been very kind with your time and information. I do see how the patch should move but just not sure how it is coupled or where. May be a job for a local repairman! Cheers.

    I have a Minolta 7s but the Film Advance lever is loose & not advancing, any tips on how to fix?

    • @thephotographersbag
      @thephotographersbag  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, if you feel confident in your abilities to strip the top cover and have a look inside, disassemble the film advance lever first, it's a case of strip and inspect and hopefully find an issue
      Professional repair cost will exceed the value, probably cheaper to find another example.....

    Hello, i have a minolta hi matic 7s and the ragefinder needle is always point up. I was wondering if it needs fixing or a battery. Or do i just use the sunny 16 method?

    • @thephotographersbag
      @thephotographersbag  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, sounds like a bad battery or corrosion related damage from an expired and leaking on, check and clean the battery compartment and try with a known good battery, ideally a new one, yes the sunny sixteen rule should be fine with negative film types, or use an external meter or an app on your phone....

    Is there any service manual for these? I need to figure out how to get behind the battery compartment to replace a corroded wire to the battery terminal.

    • @thephotographersbag
      @thephotographersbag  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, unfortunately there is no known availability of a repair manual for this model, although for sure one must have existed
      Most of these types of camera are fairly similar in construction, and you can gain access to the inside by removing the lens/shutter subassembly, carefully remove the front outer covering using a plastic or wooden scraper and there should be 4 screws that hold it in place, remove these and gently remove the subassembly, there may be a wire or two attached, this will then give you access to the inside of the camera body.....hope this helps....

    • @thephotographersbag
      @thephotographersbag  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, sorry to hear that you are having problems, if the battery has leaked then I use vinegar on cotton swabs to dissolve the residue, sometimes the bottom has to be removed to get access, cleaning out the old batteries can be a pain, there may well be issues with corroded wiring that will need replacing, please come back to me if still stuck...

    What battery should i buy? The one I have i think its too loose so it doesn't work

    • @thephotographersbag
      @thephotographersbag  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, the original mercury battery is no longer available due to environmental concerns, I use Wien cells, air operated design, you have to remove the sticker over the air holes
      They only last a few months but are the correct 1.35 volts, a 1.5v cell (SR44/LR44) etc, the camera will function without a battery if you use an external meter or phone app or sunny sixteen rule, I pad ill fitting batteries with folded tin foil, not a great solution but it works....hope this helps, great cameras....

    Hi how to repair the shutter stuck for this camera?

    • @thephotographersbag
      @thephotographersbag  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, it requires a bit of disassembly to get to the shutter blades, go in from the front and work back, clean the blades with a solvent like lighter fluid or methylated spirits, they are usually just stuck, I have made films of this type of repair, not for the faint hearted, not an economic camera to send for repair....
