I love my 7s, it's built like a tank and I don't need batteries since I have my own light meter. That 220 degree winding distance is such a nice quirk to it too!
So glad that you love your 7s! Honestly, the 7s is the only camera I own that has not let me down. Not even once, not even the first time I shot with it. It's amazing. Enjoy shooting with it!
I have a Minolta Hi-Matic 7s in absolute mint condition. Got it from a thrift store for cheap, still had a mercury battery in it pumping out the 1.35v and no sign of corrosion anywhere. It’s like the original owner bought it new put a battery in it then packed it away
I have one of these sitting in my closet disassembled. I purchased it a few years ago and decided to do a CLA and found that one of the springs was bowed way out of shape (the film advance lever was spongy, this was the problem.) I’m waiting on a friend of mine to wrap me a new spring, I’m hoping to revive this camera rather than replace it. Thank goodness I have talented friends.
Just got one but not sure if the aperture is working properly. It's a pretty big and heavy camera, so if you want something where you can swap lenses, I'd get an SLR instead. But this is definitely a cool camera!!!! Nice lens.
Thank you! Yes it's a really cheap camera, much cheaper than a lot out there and you can get really amazing photos on it. It has not failed me so far and is one of the most reliable ones I have. :D
Hello, it's being always seen from Japan. I use Minolta hi matic 7S, too. It's a very good camera, isn't it? It's made the youtube upload pleasure. Channel registration was done.
Actually i shot 35mm film with Minolta Dynax 7 last film slr from minolta. My only rangefinder is fed 5, soviets made some nice lenses for m39 screw mount. I would love to try this minolta of yours but i don't have enough founds and space to buy another camera. Cheers
Hello Jakub! Actually it's really cheap to get a Minolta like this. Seems like you have found some great cameras though. Just stick with what you're comfortable with, but if you'd like to try something new and affordable, I'll definitely recommend this!
Haha! Nope, it depends on the type of film you load. I just haven't shot colour on this camera in the videos I've uploaded. But you definitely can shoot colour film.
I have one and I use a zinc air 675 button battery rated at 1.4v which is only .05v higher than the 1.35v battery required per the manual. In order to hold the battery against the inner contacts I used the spring that I cut out of the battery compartment of an old radio. Works well.
I'm using this app that's literally called lightmeter. But I just went to check and it's no longer available on play store (I use android). It's rather accurate I would say. But if in doubt just check back to the sunny 16 rule! Oh, also this camera has a built in light meter. Might be easier to just use that?
@@allanroyyabut6054 You might already know this, but you can replace a mercury cell with various modern batteries. There are even adapters available, look up MR9.
Hi Gustavo, honestly both cameras are good but most importantly the camera should fit your budget and is in good working condition. I would say the the QL17 is smaller and lighter if that is a consideration. Otherwise, functionality wise both are great cameras.
Hi Max, the 7s uses a mercury battery that's currently really difficult to find. You can get 1.4 v zinc air batteries and use it with an adapter for the camera. Check out this link for the alternatives: www.smallbattery.company.org.uk/sbc_px625.htm Hope this helps you out!
Great to hear that! for the film, any type of 35mm film works for this camera. For batteries, check out this link: www.smallbattery.company.org.uk/sbc_px625.htm
Hello everyone! Im using a 7s from my grandfather that hasnt been used since the late 80's and the exposure meter doesnt quite work, neither with original batteries from the time (to be expected ofc) and neither with a new battery equivalent (V625). The meter moves(with the battery in it goes to the bottom), but doesnt correctly meter anything , neither goes to the middle. Anyone that had something similar or any knows fix? thanks :)
The issue with using newer battery types with old cameras is that it over volts the meter. This results in the meter usually being out by one stop. This can usually be corrected by simply changing the ISO setting. For example with 400 speed film if you set it to 200 you should be good to go. Alternatively if you are going to have it taken to a shop for a CLA they can often adjust the meter to work with the higher voltage of new batteries.
If you can, check it in person. Mostly to see if the shutter fires at all speed and if the aperture rings opens and closes accurately as well as the film winding. If all is good and the lens is clear then go ahead! If you can't check and are buying online well it's a risk you have to take. This camera I'm using now I got off ebay from a guy who didn't know cameras. But I got him to test a couple of things before I buy. Mainly same as the above. Was lucky that it was in perfect condition!

@@rodrigojeronimo5883there are adapters for more conventional batteries. For the PX-13 mercury battery.
I just got one off of Ebay & can’t wait to get it!
As someone who shoots with a High-Matic 7 (only real difference is the lack of a hot shoe) I 100% agree that the camera is a great beginner camera!
I have a 7 as well- however I struggle to see the focusing patch! Got any tips? Also does your have any light seals on the back door of the camera?
I'm picking one up for 30 bucks this saturday! Thanks for the review
Nice video, enjoyed watching it. Yeh, I'm a Minolta user/collector and I'm on the hunt for a mint Himatic 7s.
Regards Rob (UK)
Just ordered one, can’t wait to get back into film! Thanks for the video. I’m hoping the resurgence of film is for good!!!

Definitely look out for one. Let me know how it goes once you've managed to get your hands on one! 😁
Did you ever get one? My neighbor had a yard sale and sold me hers for $5.
Can you link the battery adapter you used?
Nice video. Just found one in an antique shop a few days ago. Needs new light seals but otherwise is in great condition.
Wow I got mine here in Japan for 500¥ approx $4.50 I didn't know it was so good! I also didn't know it took a battery! Haha. Sweet video!

How did you manage find one so cheap? I'll be heading to Japan soon and would love to find one for myself too!
Great shots.

Would you prefer it over Olympus Om1?
Informative video, thanks

wich film did you use for the first shots?
Does this need a battery to work?
#minoltagang
Hey haha
Can this be use without battery? I got one recently.
Yes you can! You can use an external light meter or the sunny 16 rule.
I have the Hi-matic G which is a point and shoot, the lens is sharp and its a compact camera to carry around, i will look out for a 7s
I've never actually tried any of the other Hi-matic series how is the G different from the rest?
@@Project3635 Basically the g is auto exposure and you have no full manual control, the lens is f2.8 so is slower than the 7s it is also zone focusing
Ahh that's cool I've a couple of friends who shoot with the Minolta AF and they love it. I assume it's sort of similar 😁

Both are great! I haven't personally tried the 7 before but from what I know, the 7s is basically one with more features.
