  • In the first part of the 20th century, a seeming miracle took place. Humans learned how to fly.
    But the quest to reach for the skies came with tremendous danger. Events and circumstances that in an instant could turn deadly. Every time a new barrier was pushed, the limits of gravity pushed back harder, making every advancement in the world of aviation one that was paid for in blood.

    Finally, after 42 minutes, he gets to what I came to watch. The 'doomed' air race

    Well narated at a easy pace, the stories for me are the first time I herd them, I believe I herd about the Navy Airship but not in this detail. Great job, no plagerism here, first time stories told, all other history documentaries seam to be repeats of the same ole thing. Thumbs UP !!

    So many videos. I like this channel.Hated history when i was young and in school. Now i have a lot of time on my hands and I'm a loser. If i watched TH-cam instead of going to history class in school, I would be a lot smarter than I am now. Sounds dumb but our textbooks taught us lies, and I don't remember anything in history class anyways.

    What about the tampered-with compass!?? Is there no follow-up on this? Did it, or could it have, played a role?? WHAT is the story of the compass??!!!

    What an amazing story of the captain and crew of the boat plane! I feel so bad about Captain Rogers because he died a year later after their amazing survival story. I almost choked when drinking when they called his colleague "Snotty". What kind of last name is that??

    This is actually called "Challenge of Flight : Nowhere Else to Go " its about early air disasters from the first days of flight. Not just the Dole air race. Hell its just a 10min part at the very end

    Lindbergh was not THE first to cross the Atlantic. He was the first to do it solo. I think it was a couple of Italians a year or so before.

    • @AC-gb7do
      @AC-gb7do 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      First aerial crossing of the South Atlantic (single aircraft): Ramón Franco, Julio Ruiz de Alda Miqueleiz, Juan Manuel Duran and Pablo Rada, made between Spain and South America (7612 km) in the Plus Ultra, in January 1926.
      First solo non-stop New York to Paris transatlantic flight: Charles Lindbergh, flying the Spirit of St. Louis, made the 33-hour journey (5833.8 km) from New York to Paris on May 20-21, 1927, winning the Orteig Prize.
      (The Orteig Prize was a $25,000 reward (equivalent to $369,000 in 2019) offered on May 22, 1919, by New York hotel owner Raymond Orteig to the first allied aviator(s) to fly non-stop from New York City to Paris or vice versa.)
      Strange how there’s such a small distinction (S. Atlantic v Atlantic) between the two.

    • @utjason8
      @utjason8 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lindberg was the first to do it non stop. The Plus Ultra aircraft made fuel stops off the coast of Africa and South America. Still an amazing accomplishment in 1927!

      The British did it in 1919 between Newfoundland & Ireland ( shortest distance ). It got no press because of the Irish Revolution.

    Your narration is imprecise. These early aviators didn't "fly in a balloon", they floated in a basket under a non-powered balloon.

    The narrator sounds like Geraldo Rivera . A disgraced reporter from conservative radio and tv. The documentary was entertainment !

    • @williamwallace2325
      @williamwallace2325 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The narrator does not sound like lifelong-leftwing discredited fake "reporter"; moreover, there was nothing EVER about Jerry Rivers AKA Geraldo Rivera that was conservative, be it on radio/tv. His politics for his 50+ years polluting our airwaves are somewhere to the left of Mao Tse-DUNG. Check out recent appearances with Dan Bongino, who kicks Geraldo''s phony ass. It's great entertainment by up-and-coming Bongino.

    This is best watched muted. The narration is awfully written, full of inaccuracies and silly phrases ( "filled to the struts"... ?? Seriously?) And the narrator's voice and intonation is extremely annoying.
