Why S58 is better? Bigger bore and Less stroke. This engine is less under-squared meaning less stress on cylinder walls. It’s also an advantage for thermal properties. It can also rev higher. Valves are bigger as well. It’s a great combo for racing!
Shorter stroke has disadvantages too... Higher piston speed, more angle forces on the rods etc. Longer stroke is also more efficient, because you can use the combustion stroke much better
Hey man, i've seen your videos for quite a while now. Just wanted to say I appreciate how much dedication you've put into content like this. These videos and your deep-diving is invaluable for those of us that would want to better understand these engines and repair these vehicles. You're easily one of the most important channels to the BMW community.
Its worth noting there are slight differences in the s58 found in F97/F98 to the G80/G82. The crankshaft used in the G8x is different - lighter and optimized for the higher torque & rotational speed. The right engine mount is designed to be more rigid than the left engine mount for the torque increase which should reduce force on the drive system. Pre-production 11/2020 F9X S58s have different cooling. The pre-production F9x S58s are missing an external radiator the G8X have. Also BMW decided to include stone chip protection guards on the coolant radiators.
Yeah technically this was made before the G8x was even out, so tried to weed through some of those specific details. Like the intake integration with the engine cover
They also rotated the spray pattern of the B58TU injectors. They were trying to prevent warping of the upper cylinder. Lower compression ratio, bore and stroke changes, less flowing injectors... reliability and boost were in mind.

12:50 Concerning the about estimated power output of the S58 and you assuming it's capable of doing about 30% more power with the injectors, I want to tell you, you are pretty much right! There is a german tuner called Benny from "BK Performance" and about 4 years ago when the S58 came out with the X3M and X4M models, he already got his hands on the X3M and tested it's "limits", he ended up at 757hp with everything stock besides installing a different Downpipe (and what I'm not sure about is, he might have changed his Intercooler to a Wagner one, I don' remember exactly no more), BUT what I know is, he definitely didn't change anything else than I mentioned. The car was also featured on quiet a few other TH-cam channels like "AutoTopNL", he could have went for slightly more power as well but he wanted to run a safe setup. He even drove the X3M with that power with 310km/h+ !GPS measured! on the Autobahn :D
No problems here with my s58. Just lots of giggling.

Idk imo the s58 connecting rod look stronger at least on the bottom side where the bearing goes you can tell it’s beefier and the the way the profile is it’s designed better but I agree it’s thinner
Hi friend, I have a question for you. I have a 2019 BMW X5 go5. With B58 c tu I always change my oil every three months. I don't wait like BMW says to change it after a year and a half. The problem is that at the same time when I'm checking the oil level, after 20 seconds the system crashes and won't let me see 100%, but I can see that it says OK in a fraction of a second. What do you think about that? Thanks.
